[Bug 721670] Re: Addresses given in /usr/share/doc/gnome-system-tools/README are outdated

2011-02-19 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
To be fair, only one address is outdated. The project homepage, mailing
list, FTP server, GNOME module name and IRC channel are all valid. And
it's not like GNOME is a completely unknown project! I'll remove the
whitepaper address, and maybe I'll fix the website to stop telling about
CVS/SVN since we've switched to git.

[Bug 721717] [NEW] [Natty] No possibility to deactivate compiz in appearence-proberties

2011-02-19 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

It is no longer possible to deactivate Compiz via gnome-appearence-
proberties. Simple-ccsm is useless, too. I'm using a classic gnome-
desktop with Natty, and this is an Option that I need often.

Workaround for now is the use of metacity --replace but it would be
good to have this possibility back again.

[Bug 721565] Re: Nautilus 2.31.1 crashes reproducibly when window opened via XF86Favorites keyboard hotkey

2011-02-19 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu
better. However, it seems that you are not using a software package provided
by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can
not support or fix your particular bug.
I added the nautilus-elementary project bug tracker (which also uses launchpad,
so you do not have to submit this report again).

[Bug 721786] [NEW] Scroll-bar lacks sufficient contrast to easily identify its position in the scroll-track

2011-02-19 Thread nick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

The scroll-bars that appear on the right-side and bottom of gnome
windows lack sufficient contrast to the scroll-track. I have difficulty
identifying where in the scroll-track the bar is positioned. I often
mistake the background of the scroll-track as the scroll-bar itself. I'm
using Inverted Control theme. More contrast and better color separation
is needed here.

I often mistake the scroll-track as the scroll-bar because there is not
enough contrast between the two and the rest of the window.

[Bug 721822] [NEW] when reply AND change the sender, the content of the message changes

2011-02-19 Thread Etienne Castiaux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm uing several email addresses (professional and private). When I
reply to a mail, I need sometimes to change the email address that will
be used as the sender or from. When this from address is changed
(I pick one out of the list that is proposed), then the body of the
original message is changing - typically, some characters are being
erased, on the very first lines of the original message. I need to use
the back arrow to come back to the original message, just like if I
want to erase what I've done.

I use
ubuntu 10.10

Re: [Bug 657022] Re: screen-saver does not lock after movie/music played

2011-02-19 Thread Patrik Nilsson
On 02/19/2011 04:40 PM, Marc Deslauriers wrote:
Is totem still open when you expect the screensaver to come up?

totem can be in the foreground (video) or background (music) when
playing. If I touch the mouse/a key *immediately* *after* the media
stopped playing the screensaver is activated as expected, otherwise
sometimes not. (You can't manually stop a totem playing, then you move
the mouse.)

Sometimes this bug doesn't come up immediately after restart. It seems
as the erroneous behavior continues until restart of the computer and
something again triggers it after some media played.

totem is running all the time; window is open (background or
foreground).

A moment ago the bug didn't come up when playing videos, but after
playing a sound, the videos also is affected. Just a theory.

[Bug 575877] Re: gnome-keyring mysteriously asks for keyring password on startup

2011-02-19 Thread Geoffrey Pursell
I have a single keyring, labeled Passwords: login. I do have auto-
login set, and I would get asked two or sometimes three times for my
password on login, every time.

As suggested elsewhere, I changed the password on that keyring to
nothing. That worked; I was no longer asked at startup. Then I logged
out and in as another user, logged out, logged in as my primary user,
then set the keyring back to my real password, which is the same as the
password on the user account. Strangely, it would not accept nothing as
the old password, which I had set it to earlier, but did accept my
real password as the old password. Baffling.

Now, it does not appear to ask me at startup, and does automatically
unlock the keyring.

This should be easily possible, even with Unity. It isn't a magic trick

do things that worked before. Logging out to deacivate desktop-effects

[Bug 721856] [NEW] Nautilus can't count beyond 4GB in DVD copying

2011-02-19 Thread ullix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Copying a DVD of e.g. 7GB into an *.iso file ends up correctly copied
with a size of 7GB, and during copying the dialog box also shows correct
final size, but once the copy is finished the dialog box shows the size
apparently only modulo 4GB.

Using Ubuntu Lucid 10.4.2 I insert a DVD, the right-click on the dvd icon on
the desktop and chose CD/DVD copy I believe this uses a function of
nautilus. The first screenshot shows an ongoing copy; the dvd size is correct
at 7131MiB. Second screenshot shows the incorrect finished dvd size of 3.18GB.
When this procedure is done with a dvd of only 2.5GB, the correct dvd size is
shown both during and after copy.

I also have exactly the same problem as jeremy-list has. Even after I
change the sorting scheme of my home directory it resets itself and
sorts items by modification date in reverse order. It's really annoying.
I've also tried deleting some directories such as .nautilus and
.gconf/apps/nautilus, and even reinstalled nautilus using apt-get. But,
the problem still persists.

[Bug 721879] [NEW] PDF files created in ABBYY Finereader 10 are unreadable in Evince

2011-02-19 Thread Anton Eliasson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

If I try to open a PDF file created by the Windows OCR program ABBYY Finereader

pattern, stretching the whole document even when the background is supposed to
be white. The file command suggests that the files are PDF documents,

Re: [Bug 509895] Re: gnome-screensaver-gl-helper crashed with SIGSEGV in _fini()

2011-02-19 Thread rlrostron
Unfortunately, not really, because I have no more re-sizing to do.
Although I may be able to re-simulate same, I dare not wish to take the
risk experimenting - I dare not block myself out for next couple of
months due to other pressures.

10.10 certainly does not seem to have any of the quirks of previous
versions.

My only difficulty not yet figured is why my external disk has changed
the ownership to root. I know (again) I have been trying to check all
possibilities of 'Mount' etc, I also have Kubuntu installed (as a backup
in case I screw up) and access is possible via that route. No doubt I
shall sort it.

Many years ago, I used to test all the old style mechanical calculators
accounting M/cs and other office equipment for Boots the Chemists
(which dates me somewhat). My reputation was terrible - If I could not
jam them, nobody could.

Regards,

Rodney Rostron

[Bug 721895] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.10 - power symbol covered up in panel

2011-02-19 Thread Jeremy Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Ubuntu 10.10, realease 10.10, 32-bit
Dell Inspiron 1720

The bug is in the panel, so I would guess it relates to the Gnome
package. I have Gnome Panel 2.30.2.

As you can see in bug.png attached, my user drop-down menu repeats so
that I can't access the power symbol for shutting down, restarting, etc.
When I switch the panel to the bottom of my desktop, the issue stays,
but when I switch it to the side of my desktop, the power symbol comes
back and everything is fine. I can then switch it to the top of my
desktop, and it works as it should, with the power symbol in the correct
place.

[Bug 721879] Re: PDF files created in ABBYY Finereader 10 are unreadable in Evince

2011-02-19 Thread Anton Eliasson
gv which is based on Ghostscript can view these problematic files
without visual artefacts. So this is very likely a bug in Poppler.

[Bug 714015] Re: blank screen saver buttons do NOT work in ati 9600

2011-02-19 Thread wpshooter
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Since unchecking the check boxes in the screen saver section of most of
the later versions of Ubuntu that are supposed to turn off the
functioning of screen savers or blanking screen after a certain period
of inactivity do NOT seem to work, then it would be nice if someone
would consider putting a text message on that screen that basically says
that if you really don't want the screen to go blank after a certain
period of inactivity what you need to do is to run this SUDO command at
  the terminal: XSET S NOBLANK.

  Thanks.
