[Bug 726480] [NEW] gnome-screensaver forces itself upon xscreensaver users

2011-03-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

gnome-screensaver installs the DBus file

/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.gnome.ScreenSaver.service

which unconditionally starts gnome-screensaver whenever some other
process (e.g. nm-applet, update-notifier) pull the trigger. This is
troubling for users of non-gnome desktop environments, e.g. LXDE.

A workaround for me was to install the following
/usr/local/share/dbus-1/services/org.gnome.ScreenSaver.service:

[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.gnome.ScreenSaver
Exec=/bin/sh -c 'if xscreensaver-command -version /dev/null 21; then renice
+10 $$ /dev/null 21; while sleep 60; do :; done else exec
/usr/bin/gnome-screensaver; fi' gnome-screensaver-placeholder

The dummy process remains active because if it exited immediately, dbus
might try to restart gnome-screensaver. I don't know if this is really
necessary.

First of all, this needs to be fixed -- screensavers should not step on
each others' toes. Secondly, is there a more elegant workaround? Note
that because of bug #726471, a user can't override a misguided
/usr/share/ service file in his home (~/.local/share) configuration:

[Bug 726426] Re: Default document ghelp:gnome-help not found

2011-03-01 Thread David Planella
Matthew provides some more insight on this here [1].

Quoting:

I think this is the issue - gnome-user-docs needs to be updated with
the current upstream material to provide these files, and it hasn't
been uploaded yet this release.

That also depends upon how we deal with the other issues that have
been raised in this thread.

[Bug 727099] [NEW] In Maverick, clicking File - Save a copy - Create Folder gives an error

2011-03-01 Thread Arthur Rilke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I'm working in Maverick, fully updated up to 1 March 2011. Package
evince has version number 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.

When I open a PDF file, click File - Save a copy - Create Folder, a
dialogue box pops up with the message:

The folder could not be created\n\n Error creating directory.
Permission denied

This happens within parent folders for which I do have the necessary
permissions, such as the home folder. This happens for all pdf's. I have
not noticed this behaviour with any other application. Saving a copy of
a pdf *without* creating a new folder does work.

[Bug 726431] Re: session saving (wishlist)

2011-03-01 Thread Bayle Shanks
thanks, no, I don't plan to work on it, I'm just interested in the
feature, particularly for window placement (I'm less interested in
resumption of state within the application).

At the current time, I know of no way in Ubuntu 11.04 to have
applications startup automatically upon login and appear at specified
Compiz viewports. Devilspie apparently can only send windows to the
first row of Compiz viewports (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/devilspie/+bug/380880 ), and
Compiz's Place Windows feature only works sporadically on windows
created by Startup Applications (

[Bug 150702] Re: alt shift tab stopped navigating windows

2011-03-01 Thread Vít Šindlář
Maverick is affected as well, it doesn't matter if compiz is active or
not. Just as others pointed out, the problem can be avoided by not using
Alt+Shift as the keyboard layout switch. The same kind of problem arises
when one wants to use Ctrl+Shift short-cut for keyboard layout switching
though. This time, it affects cycling backward between panels in
Chrome/Firefox.

Any chance to get this one fixed anytime soon :-)?

[Bug 603833] Re: default folder/file handler is improperly set from 'open with other application' menu

2011-03-01 Thread arkaitzswagman
As a beginner, I spent quite a lot of time to figure out why I could not browse
my directories anymore. (After adding a nautilus-script to open folders with
rhythmbox, it was set as the default application to launch directories).
I found the mimeapps.list using grep, In my opinion, it is not very user
friendly for a newbie who wants to do the same as he used to do with his/her MS
file manager (right-click, open with)

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 727168] [NEW] iagno screen too small sometimes

2011-03-01 Thread Arvind S Raj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

I installed iagno and found that sometimes it runs with the window size
small and sometimes large. I tried purging and reinstalling-it sometimes
sized large and sometimes small. This is particularly annoying since a
window resize isn't possible. But, this error isn't related about window
resizing but rather the window size not remaining constant. I'm
attaching two screenshots that show both cases.

[Bug 727194] [NEW] Evolution asks for password

2011-03-01 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I've got an email-account provided by a german provider (web.de). There you
have to wait 15 minutes between 2 logins via POP. So I've set the time to wait
between evolution asks for emails to 15 minutes. This works fine. But if I
logout and login after less then 15 minutes evolution tries to ask for emails.
This doesn't work and evolution asks me to enter the password.
In my opinion evolution should either remember the time when it asked the last
time for email or it should show me some kind of error message. The request of
the password is no good solution.

[Bug 727158] Re: get_date() fails in gtk introspection

2011-03-01 Thread Martin Pitt
This was fixed a while ago in upstream master (i. e. GTK 3):

[Bug 727194] Re: Evolution asks for password

This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody
experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the
software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream. Thanks in advance!

2011-03-01 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
If would be helpful if you could try some possible workarounds.

Can somebody please check whether setting evolution to run in the
english locale makes it work better (you can do this by starting
evolution with LC_MESSAGES=C evolution on the command-line.

It would also be good to test the other workarounds from the upstream
bug, like disabling the sidebars to see if the window keeps the right
size or can be resized.

[Bug 727300] [NEW] Search for Files is oddly placed in desktop Places menu

2011-03-01 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Search for Files…

[i] Music
[i] Pictures
[i] Videos

[Bug 699840] Re: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered

2011-03-01 Thread Mike McKee
I found that I can use it reliably without this DBus error, but only if
I do this sequence of steps:

1. If I know the FTP point may have timed out, or if I have received a
DBus error, I can go Places, Computer, and then look for the little
eject icon next to my FTP point in the left sidebar of Nautilus (should
you have that turned on) where I can see ftp as , right underneath
the Network icon. I click it and it kills the Nautilus window. That may
be a bug, but nomatter -- it works.

2. Then, I just go back up to Places, Connect To Server..., and type it
in again.

Bonus if someone can either fix the bug or figure out how to make it so
that I can have an icon on my desktop, or script, that does this
reconnection step for me again. I mean, I have to connect to FTP points
all day for my clients.

[Bug 702418] Re: Two power managers started

2011-03-01 Thread James Adney
I don't have time to try and tackle this, sadly, but I did notice
something potentially useful:

Part of your problem could actually be a bug in update-manager.
update-manager tries to use the org.gnome.PowerManager interface to inhibit
sleep before it tries the freedesktop standard
(org.freedesktop.PowerManagement) that xfce-power-manager uses. This could
start gnome-power-manager unnecessarily.

That may not fix your problem completely, but it's a start.

As posted earlier, you should be able to just get rid of gnome-power-
manager to fix this problem.

The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if
somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software

[Bug 727415] [NEW] Disk Utility tries to launch Nautilus

2011-03-01 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

Disk Utility (palimpsest) defaults to opening Nautilus when clicking on
a mount link. If you don't use Nautilus then this produces an error.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open palimpsest
2. Pick a partition (or mount one)
3. Scroll down to the Mount Point section
4. Click on the link to open the mount
5. Error - Nautilus is not found

I'm not sure if it's possible to use a generic link not specific to
looking for Nautilus (or some other mechanism), but it probably is.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10
Package: gnome-disk-utility 2.30.1-2
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-25.44-generic 2.6.35.10
