[Bug 728953] [NEW] Nautilus hangs after copying a file on a sftp server

2011-03-04 Thread Marco Schuler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I created a SFTP connection to a server in the LAN. When I copy a single
file on that server the file will be copied correctly, but the file
transfer dialog stay open, totally stalled, showing 0%. Simultaniously a
nautilus process produces 100% load on one of the CPUs. The nautilus
window stays usable, but the SFTP connection doesn't work anymore. That
doesn't change when I close the file transfer dialog. When I kill the
nautilus process, everything works fine. I can reconnect to the SFTP,
the file I tried to copy is on the server. I can browse the folders on
the server, I can create new folders, I can copy all files and folders
from the server, I can even create new empty files on the server (all
actions using nautilus). Just copying a file to the server breaks it.

[Bug 673591] Re: All IMAP Folders keep disappearing, reappear after opening Subscriptions

2011-03-04 Thread dinky
Confirmed this is still a problem in Natty 11.04 Alpha 3. In 10.04,
Evolution worked flawlessly. My setup in 10.04 was imap folders with
Postfix+Dovecot, then with Citadel. Both were fine.

Since installing 11.04 alpha, this problem has been persistent. I am
using Citadel on it's own. I can also get my mail folders back via
disabling then re-enabling the account (irritating, as then I see ALL my
Citadel folders), or selecting subscriptions, unticking, then ticking
again each folder I want. Tedious.

Has anyone found a work around? I haven't checked the version of
Evolution included with Lucid, so I'm not sure if this is Evolution
centric, or something to do with Ubuntu. Would appreciate any
information, and am happy to help test bug fixes. This should be marked
as a high priority, and is a potential show-stopper for the 11.04 final
release. Cheers.

[Bug 381587] Re: You can not select audio hardware in Empathy for sip/ekiga calls

2011-03-04 Thread James Lewis
I just tried to find a way to achieve this in Natty, and I can't... I
have an on-board sound card connected to speakers, and a separate USB
headset used for Skype/SIP and various other VoIP software like
Mumble... You can change the input device for an application once it's
running using Pulse Audio Volume Control, (but not sound preferences)...
and you can change the default input and output device for the system in
the gnome preferences... but not on a per application basis.

There really needs to be a way to do it in Empathy, and if I'm not
understanding what is required to have Empathy open automatically when I
log on, ring on the speaker, and have the VoIP call on the headset...
then the UI needs to be improved but I'm fairly sure there is no way
to do it.

[Bug 729011] [NEW] Gstreamer applications fail to play media on some hardware when source audio sample rate does not match that of Pulseaudio

2011-03-04 Thread Johannes Dahl
Public bug reported:

When trying to open a movie file Totem when the movie's audio sample
rate is 48000 Hz and when Pulseaudio's sample rate is set to 44100 Hz,
Totem fails to play back the movie correctly. It shows video very
slowly, just a frame every few seconds, and no sound can be heard.
Computer responsiveness goes down dramatically and 'top' shows high CPU
usage by Pulseaudio. Sometimes I can get Totem to play the movie
properly (with sound and no excessive CPU usage) by pausing and/or
seeking in the movie.

The reason I decided to report this against Gstreamer is this: When I
set up Pulseaudio at 48000 Hz, Rhythmbox behaves in a similar way when I
make it play a 44100 Hz song. On the other hand, Gnome MPlayer has no
problem playing back said 48000 Hz audio through Pulseaudio set up at
44100 Hz.

This problem is limited in terms of hardware, but not specific to one
computer: I can reliably reproduce this bug with CM8738 and SoundBlaster
Live! 24-bit external SB0490 sound cards, the latter on both my desktop
and netbook (running Maverick and Lucid respectively). But the netbook's
integrated audio device Intel HD Audio does not show this problem.

[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2011-03-04 Thread vbk
** Description changed:

IMPORTANT 1: Please see the WORKAROUND a few lines below.

IMPORTANT 2: Please don't post any me too message; use the Does this
bug affect you? feature you can find a bit above this bug description
  on launchpad.

IMPORTANT 3: Do not post anything if you haven't read all comments to
verify that your point hasn't been made. If you feel tempted to stop
reading because there are too many messages, that is a strong indicator
that you shouldn't add even more comments. Developers have a tough time
to find anything if you post redundant stuff. So please abstain from
  doing that.

  *** WORKAROUND ***
  ---
Install klipper, glipper, parcellite or xfce4-clipman

When I copy (Ctrl + C, or right click and Copy) text from somewhere
and after that close the program where it is, the clipboard gets empty.

Steps to reproduce in gedit :
  1. Pick any text field that supports copying, copy some text.
  2. Paste into any other text field.
  3. It works.
  4. Close the source window or program.
  5. Paste now does nothing.

This bug will happen in any application that doesn't comply with the
clipboard specification from FreeDesktop.
  http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/ClipboardManager

There was also previous considerations about improving xserver-xorg
clipboard, which would reduce adaptation work from upstream projects to comply
with the specification.

[Bug 728803] [NEW] Ubuntu theme switches from partially broken to gnome default on VirtualBox guest

2011-03-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've been using VirtualBox to test 11.04 alpha builds. Since alpha 1 I
have noticed that on both the Classic Desktop and Unity (if the VBox 3d
guest drivers are installed) the GTK theme starts off slightly off. All
the panel icons appear dark gray. Then after a few seconds the entire
theme reverts to the gnome defaults (only window decorations are
unaffected). Every once in a while I'll login and it won't happen but
more often I get the same behavior.

I'll post some pictures I have of it shortly. I'm currently using
VirtualBox 4.0.4 running on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to run my Natty VMs. This
bug was filed against a clean install of Alpha 3, where I did a single
update, and did not install the VirtualBox guest extensions.

[Bug 717216] Re: Bar title should be cut using a little fade when it's too long

2011-03-04 Thread Marco Trevisan
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: metacity

As it's done in Unity (see bug #694924), when the application title is
too long to fit the Metacity decorator, it should be faded and not just
  cut.

The attached patch fixes the issue, and has already sent to upstream.

[Bug 723458] Re: libgtk2 2.24.0 break Lotus Notes user interface

2011-03-04 Thread Søren Holm
Nice to know that I am not alone :) Do you have some it-department to
talk you regarding this issue. I have tried calling and writing IBM.

The best solution would be to have IBM correct Lotus Notes. If it fails
I thinks that we should revert those two lines of code for Ubuntu - the
gtk-guys does not seem fond of that since it is an optimization.
Problably it really is Lotus Notes behaving bad, but the fact that it
breaks the guid should rule over correctness in this case I think.

What do you think? Has there ever been similar issues regarding
commercial software packages in Ubuntu ?

[Bug 631133] Re: gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_alloc()

2011-03-04 Thread Eliah Kagan
Why is the status of this bug Opinion? Typically, Opinion would not be
the status of any bug that produces crashes. Considering the events
surrounding its status becoming Opinion, it seems to me that its status
should instead have been changed to Incomplete. Now that the requested
information has been provided, perhaps the status should go back to New.

If no one objects (Sebastien?), I'll change this bug's status to New.

[Bug 723024] Re: Mail reply does not send mail on ssl port - uses port 25

2011-03-04 Thread Thomas_a55
Found the problem - previous version of Evolution handled all settings
in the main window settings dialouge. For some reason those settings
does not take effect in the new/ reply mail window. Needed to do the SSL
settings there as well.

I would still classify this as a bug since the new behaviour is rather
illogical and differs from previous versions. I fail to see any reason
for not making all communication settings (in this case setting for the
smtp server) in one place, i.e. the Evolution main window.

[Bug 723024] Re: Mail reply does not send mail on ssl port - uses port 25

2011-03-04 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Hmm.. but it is in the same place as before. If you click Edit,
Preferences, go to Accounts and edit one in the Sending or Receiving
pane, you will get the Security settings which would include SSL and
TLS.

There may be some differences caused by how evolution express looks, so
maybe that's what triggers the differences?

However, I do believe what you say although I don't understand exactly
what you mean by main window, and this could have been fixed in a later
revision, so could you please attach a screenshot that would describe
where you expect the settings to be?

Thanks!

[Bug 729065] Re: gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_set()

2011-03-04 Thread Eliah Kagan
** Description changed:

While running from today's daily live (i.e. desktop) natty CD (md5sum
  5f1c4376fb3c42742627d9f77e83547e), with gnome-control-center
1:2.32.1-0ubuntu5, I opened System Preferences Monitors (i.e. gnome-
display-properties) and successfully changed the resolution from
1024x768 to 800x600, since I am using the live CD to install Natty on a
virtual machine, and I wanted the virtual machine's screen to fit more
  comfortably on the host desktop.

After finding bug 729057, I opened System Preferences Monitors
again, with the intention of changing the screen resolution back to
1024x768 as a workaround. However, when I selected that resolution, this
  crash occurred.

+ I am unable to reproduce this bug by re-entering gnome-display-
+ properties; my subsequent attempt to change the resolution back to
+ 1024x768 was successful.

[Bug 681567] Re: [regression] With slow mice, opening a right-click context menu immediately executes the first entry

2011-03-04 Thread Dmitry Alexeyev
Not sure it's gtk-related.
Also happens on my desktop PC with Ubuntu 10.10
( Linux dmi 2.6.35-27-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 22 20:25:46 UTC 2011
x86_64 GNU/Linux )
in both gtk and kde/qt applications. Namely it's eclipse, gedit and konsole.
I've got A4tech X7 X-750F mouse connected via USB.
Right-click triggers double-right-click in about 70-80% of clicks.

Just connected my mouse via USB to PS/2 connector, and the bug is gone.

Attaching xev output with both USB and PS/2 logs.

I also have this problem on 10.10 maverick meerkat.
I was ripping an audio cd with rubyripper and wanted to see if rubyripper
actually used multiple threads (I'd set it to 3, and I have a quadcore cpu) but
then I couldn't close the System Monitor window anymore.
When rubyripper was finished, I still couldn't close the window, BUT
after opening the cd tray the window vanished without me touching it... :S

(Mind you, this is not a duplicate of bug #692420, since selecting Quit
from menu item Monitor also doesn't close the window)

[Bug 556311] Re: gnome-panel freeze on cascading contextual app-launcher menu

2011-03-04 Thread Quentin Neill
Towards the statement This is really not an important bug: it is
blatantly visible to the end user; it is reproducible; it should be
straightforward to fix (I'm not a Gnome developer though I have worked
in other GUI systems).

The workaround (restarting gnome-panel:
http://mylinuxnotebook.blogspot.com/2008/09/restart-gnome-panel.html) is
not exactly trivial for a beginner.

Others have commented on finer-grained control of gnome-panel:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1574254page=2

Perhaps a hot-key to control the gnome-panel is in order, including one that
will restart it (in the case where key and mouse events are prevented from
reaching it)?

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

All the company use Ubuntu to work, so...empathy is really relevant,

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
   Won't Fix

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: empathy

When I try to add my google talk account to empathy (or add it as a
jabber account with the server settings set to google's server), it
says Disconnected -- no reason specified. The following was
  outputted to stdout:

  (empathy:6403): TelepathyBackend-WARNING **:
tpf-persona-store.vala:818: failed to add channel 'stored': Unable to
complete this channel request, we're disconnecting!

  (empathy:6403): TelepathyBackend-WARNING **:

complete this channel request, we're disconnecting!

This renders empathy completely useless. And no, I haven't tried
adding an account using a different service (GTalk is pretty much the
  only one I use nowadays).

[Bug 651678] Re: crashes with assertion failure on startup

2011-03-04 Thread Thangalin
For what it's worth, The GIMP seems to suffer from a similar (if not
exactly the same) issue. However, it does not crash:

(gimp:6718): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_icon_info_load_icon: assertion
`icon_info != NULL' failed

The software continues like nothing went wrong.
