introduce new API and gst0.10-python 0.10.21 has bindings for this API.

It also fixes some crashes and broken bindings for some API, which caused
problems for some applications.

Thanks for reporting this issue, Wayne; I too reacted to that menu
label.

A solution is available in lp:~gunnarhj/gnome-session/lp-730382, which
is proposed to be merged. Chose to just suggest the addition of a plural
's'. Think that's sufficient, and also easier to translate in some cases
than effects disabled.

  * Add 000git_GI_calendar_get_date.patch: Fix missing (out) annotation for
gtk_calendar_get_date(). (LP: #727158)

  [ Steve Langasek ]
  * Mark libgtk2.0-common, libgtk2.0-bin, libgtk2.0-doc, libgail-common,
and libgail-doc as Multi-Arch: foreign.
  * Fix debian/gir1.2-gtk-2.0.install.in to reference @LIBDIR@ as other
packages do, so that it builds cleanly for multiarch; but don't install
to @LIBDIR@ yet because it needs to integrate with g-i-r.
  * Likewise, handle libgail with .install.in + @LIBDIR@ for multiarch.

[Bug 730329] Re: Nautilus randomly segfaults when making nautilus window active

2011-03-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 730556] [NEW] Turning off open new chats in separate windows not always works

2011-03-07 Thread Stanislaw Pitucha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When I turn off the open new chats in separate windows, the new chat
window behaviour is not consistent. When I doubleclick a contact,
sometimes I get a new window, sometimes I get a tab in the existing one.

It seems that it's somehow account-related, since it usually happens on
the first chat after I open the client. In that situation I already have
IRC channels open, but when I try to open a jabber chat it opens a new
window. Later on I get new tabs from jabber conversations.

[Bug 730581] [NEW] gnome-panel fails to load Workspace Switcher, Window List, and Show Desktop applets

2011-03-07 Thread Eliah Kagan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

On a Natty i386 system with gnome-panel 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6, without
graphics acceleration (so it is a classic desktop, even though the
session type in GDM is Ubuntu Desktop Edition, I logged on, and
received messages indicating that all of the applets in my bottom panel
were unable to load, except for the Trash Applet. That is, the applets
that could not load were the Workspace Switcher, the Window List, and
the Show Desktop applets. Here were the exact error messages, each in
its own window (with Error as the title):

The panel encountered a problem while loading
WnckletFactory::WorkspaceSwitcherApplet.
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

The panel encountered a problem while loading
WnckletFactory::WindowListApplet.
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

The panel encountered a problem while loading
WnckletFactory::ShowDesktopApplet.
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

I've attached a screenshot, showing the desktop with these message
boxes, as well as the mostly unpopulated bottom panel.

This bug looks like bug 716714; perhaps this is a duplicate of that bug.
I wasn't sure, so I decided to report it separately. There are a number
of other bugs involving the failure of panel applets to load (a couple
recent examples are bug 715706 and bug 727660), but as far as I can tell
only bug 716714 involves the failure of these specific three panel
applets to load. Two possibly notable differences between bug 716714 and
this one are that (1) bug 716714 took place with the live CD, and this
is with an installed system, and (2) the reporter of bug 716714 can
reproduce the bug, but it's not always those specific panels that are
unable to load (he indicates that in a previous run, it was the
Notification Area that failed to load). I have not yet attempted to
reproduce this.

I've reported bug 730581 which (even more so now that I have examined
and posted my .xsession-errors file) I suspect may be a duplicate of
this bug. What do you think?

Sujet : [Bug 710627] Re: dossier personnel,s'ouvre parfois avec lecteur vidéo

Hello,

I am posting again to help you improving that bug, as my english was not
so good in my last message.

The thing is that I could fix that bug again, and willl explain you how
to reproduce that mistake, and fix it temporarily.

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop.

So, to reproduce that bug, you just need to browse your home directory
with nautilus and try to open a music folder with totem for example. To
do so, you just do a right click in nautilus, and chose totem to open
that music folder.

When doing this on Ubuntu 10.10, this actions modifies the following
file : ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

I could realize that this actions modifies the inode/directory settings
in that file, adding the value totem.desktop before
nautilus.desktop. The problem is that if you try to open your home
directory from the gnome toolbar, then the folder will be opened using
totem instead of nautilus.

To fix that bug, you just need to delete the totem.desktop entry, and
the home directory will be opened again using nautilus.

I don't really know why this file can be modified only by doing a right
click and choosing another application to open a music folder, but the
thing I am sure is that the mimeapps.list file is modified directly
after this action, and create that bug.

I hope my explanations was clear, and will help the Ubuntu community to
fix that one. In my opinion, that bugs affects gnome settings, and not
totem.

Feel free to tell me again if you need more explanation. If my english
was not so good, I also can explain myself in French, just let me know.

Best regards,

[Bug 730581] Re: gnome-panel fails to load Workspace Switcher, Window List, and Show Desktop applets

2011-03-07 Thread Eliah Kagan
Like in bug 716714, when I clicked Don't Delete in all three windows and
then logged out and back in, I got a similar error, but in a different
panel applet (the Indicator Applet). The message box's contents now are:

The panel encountered a problem while loading
IndicatorAppletAppmenuFactory::IndicatorAppletAppmenu.
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

And the relevant entry in ~/.xsession-errors says:

** (gnome-panel:6994): WARNING **: Failed to load applet
IndicatorAppletAppmenuFactory::IndicatorAppletAppmenu:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface
`org.gnome.panel.applet.AppletFactory' on object at path
/org/gnome/panel/applet/IndicatorAppletAppmenuFactory

A screenshot of the new variation of the error message (and the desktop
without its Indicator Applet) is attached.

After a bit more testing, if I don't see anything to indicate
differently, I'll mark this as a duplicate of bug 716714.

As explained in bug 730581, additional information has arisen which
indicates to me that it's a duplicate of this bug, so I've marked it as
such. Perhaps it contains useful information.

Bug 730581 occurred on an installed Natty system, rather than the live

[Bug 729230] Re: gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in invoke_get_all_properties_in_idle_cb()

2011-03-07 Thread Eliah Kagan
Provided that I waited a while (I think 15 minutes or more) in between
tries, bug 729065 never took more than three or four tries to reproduce.
On the other hand, throughout the weekend and a bit this morning (I'm in
the eastern United States), I've been trying to reproduce this bug. I
haven't been putting enormous effort into this, but I think I've
probably tried about 10-15 times, and I've logged out and back in,
restarted, and shut down and started back up at various points in the
process, while also leaving it on and logged in for over 8 hours before
trying. I have still only ever produced this (as you say, impossible-
seeming) crash once (when I reported it as this bug).

I have not tried replacing appmenu-gtk with the PPA version in a live CD
system; perhaps that would be more effective. Should I try that? Should
I send you a virtual machine?

It occurs to me that my description of this crash may imply a pattern
that is not present. That is, I had thought this crash followed the same
pattern as bug 718184 because it was produced in the same was as that
crash, and because I had tried to produce it unsuccessfully several
times before finally producing it. However, unlike bug 718184, this
crash has not been recurring from time to time (or at all, in spite of
my efforts). Perhaps the version of appmenu-gtk in your PPA really
*does* completely fix bug 718184, and this crash is due to some obscure
and rarely-manifesting dbus bug?

Or perhaps the mechanism that triggered the crash involved some other
package which has since been updated. I'm attaching a current
/var/log/dpkg.log, in case it's relevant.

(By the way, the issue with the desktop being themed differently between
logins appears to have gone away -- now my desktop just always looks
like http://launchpadlibrarian.net/65635660/natty-desktop-first-
login.png -- which is why I have still not reported that as a bug.)

[Bug 730649] [NEW] gnome-screenshot Take Screenshot title bar appeared in screenshot

2011-03-07 Thread Eliah Kagan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

On a Natty i386 system with gnome-screenshot 2.32.0-0ubuntu3,
screenshots, including full-screen screenshots, usually work properly.
However, in one instance, the Take Screenshot title bar appeared in a
full-screen screenshot. This was taken with no delay, but screenshots
taken with no delay typically do not show any part of the Take
Screenshot window. The bad screenshot is attached. (The bad screenshot
was produced when reporting bug 730581--which I have since marked as a
duplicate of bug 716714--and the error message dialog boxes in the bad
screenshot are *not* related to *this* bug, except that they're what I
was taking a screenshot of. The attached bad screenshot can be compared
to the good version taken shortly thereafter and attached to bug 730581:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/65789145/Screenshot.png)

In case information about desktop rendering is relevant here: This is a
virtual machine, virtualized by VMware Workstation 7.1.3 build-324285.
The *host* machine running VMware is a Maverick amd64 system with kernel
version 2.6.35-28-generic. The guest machine does not have graphics
acceleration, so while the session type selected in GDM on login is
Ubuntu Desktop Edition, this is a classic desktop, and *not* Unity.
The guest machine, in which this bug occurred, has 1 GB of RAM, has
VMware Tools 8.4.5-324285 installed (these are the guest drivers not
provided through Ubuntu packages), and is running xorg/xserver-xorg
1:7.6~3ubuntu11, xserver-xorg-core/xserver-common 2:1.9.99.902-2ubuntu1,
xserver-xorg-video-vmware 1:11.0.3-1ubuntu2 and xserver-xorg-input-
vmmouse 1:12.6.99.901-1ubuntu2.

Unfortunately I have not been able to reproduce this bug so far, even on
the same machine.

[Bug 730657] [NEW] Can't use 'Crop to selection' function in Gimp

2011-03-07 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Hi, this is a function that I use very ofter in my daily work.
Open an image file, from the toolbox select 'Rectangle selection' and draw a
rectangular box into the image window; from the menu (the global menu in Unity)
'Image' the 'Crop to selection' is disabled;
The strange thing is that through the right-click menu on the selection the
function is enabled.

[Bug 630383] Re: Gnome-terminal paste keyboard shortcut does not work - menu not shown

2011-03-07 Thread Michael Terry
OK, more info! I now believe this is actually a gnome-terminal bug that
appmenu-gtk merely exacerbates. You can reproduce on stock gnome-terminal by:
1) Logging into a fresh session
2) Open a gnome-terminal
3) Click on the Edit menu
4) Now try to copy some text and paste it. It will copy, but not paste

This is because when the Edit menu is activated, if no content is in the
clipboard, gnome-terminal will disable pasting. But it doesn't notice
when you do put content into the clipboard. Normally this isn't a
problem since pasting starts enabled and you normally don't open the
Edit menu before there is content in the clipboard. But appmenu-gtk
forces a fake activation of the Edit menu (for its own, valid reasons)
that causes pasting to be disabled on startup.

So I'm working on an upstream and a distro patch.

[Bug 609893] Re: If user hold PrintScreen button few seconds there is a hundreds of screeshot application windows

2011-03-07 Thread Eliah Kagan
I am able to reproduce this bug on a Maverick i386 system, and also on a
Natty i386 system (running a classic desktop, not Unity). Also, we know
this affects Lucid--Thibault Févry reported that in a comment to bug
610847, which I have marked as a duplicate of this bug.

I'm not sure what the best solution is for this bug, but I don't think
preventing multiple instance of gnome-screenshot is necessarily the best
way. After all, users may want to take a screenshot of a window (or a
screen containing a window, or part of a window) created by gnome-
screenshot itself. This could be accomplished with other programs, like
GIMP, but users may not have GIMP installed or know how to use it, and
typically gnome-screenshot is a much easier way to take simple
screenshots.

[Bug 730664] [NEW] fail to recognize character encoding on big files

2011-03-07 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

natty i386 updated

Have seen many times, not only with Natty, that gedit fail to open huge file
due to unrecognized automatic character encoding.
My system use utf-8 and gedit fail using automatic detection

For example today i've tried, for my needs, to edit /var/lib/available
which is heavy weighted, ~ 30 Mio, and fail to open it. Changing
automatic detection to select occidental (ISO-8859-15) re-encode
that file and then open it without trouble.

So the problem is clear: gedit only use utf-8 and never test and use
fallback to iso-8859-15, that mean automatic detection is a joke.

[Bug 554963] Re: Nautilus gives Could not display computer:///. error when unmounting a volume for the first time for that login

2011-03-07 Thread Erik B. Andersen
the upstream bug has been closed which is somewhat weird since the code didn't
really change
For a while, it seemed like the bug was gone, and so they closed the bug.
However, I still occasionally stumble across this bug.

[Bug 727823] Re: Enable Gnome-Control-Center in Unity, and add System Settings link to the session indicator menu

2011-03-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-control-center -
1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6

---
gnome-control-center (1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6) natty; urgency=low

  * Add 53_ubuntu_show_shell.patch: Show gnomecc.desktop, so that we can find
it in Unity. For classic GNOME we will disable it in
/etc/xdg/menus/settings.menu instead. (LP: #727823)

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-menus - 2.30.5-0ubuntu3

gnome-menus (2.30.5-0ubuntu3) natty; urgency=low

  * Add 24_ubuntu_hide_control_center.patch: Hide the Control Center shell
from the Settings menu. We only want to expose it in Unity and the session
indicator. (LP: #727823)

[Bug 727823] Re: Enable Gnome-Control-Center in Unity, and add System Settings link to the session indicator menu

2011-03-07 Thread John Lea
Hi Pitti, I've chatted to MPT, this option does need to go in the
Session Menu so you are now unblocked.

[Bug 620733] Re: Empathy does not remember settings

2011-03-07 Thread Laurent Bigonville
This bug is about the fact that libdconf0 is not installed by default.

For dconf not working on NFS, please look at bug 645448
