Thanks for reporting this issue, Wayne; I too reacted to that menu label. A solution is available in lp:~gunnarhj/gnome-session/lp-730382, which is proposed to be merged. Chose to just suggest the addition of a plural 's'. Think that's sufficient, and also easier to translate in some cases than effects disabled. ** Package changed: gdm (Ubuntu) = gnome-session (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Gunnar Hjalmarsson (gunnarhj) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730382 Title: Change no effect text to no effects or effects disabled -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 730329] Re: Nautilus randomly segfaults when making nautilus window active
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 730556] [NEW] Turning off open new chats in separate windows not always works
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy When I turn off the open new chats in separate windows, the new chat window behaviour is not consistent. When I doubleclick a contact, sometimes I get a new window, sometimes I get a tab in the existing one. [Bug 730581] [NEW] gnome-panel fails to load Workspace Switcher, Window List, and Show Desktop applets

That is, the applets that could not load were the Workspace Switcher, the Window List, and the Show Desktop applets. Here were the exact error messages, each in its own window (with Error as the title): The panel encountered a problem while loading WnckletFactory::WorkspaceSwitcherApplet. Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? The panel encountered a problem while loading WnckletFactory::WindowListApplet. Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? The panel encountered a problem while loading WnckletFactory::ShowDesktopApplet. Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? I've attached a screenshot, showing the desktop with these message boxes, as well as the mostly unpopulated bottom panel. This bug looks like bug 716714; perhaps this is a duplicate of that bug. I wasn't sure, so I decided to report it separately. There are a number of other bugs involving the failure of panel applets to load (a couple recent examples are bug 715706 and bug 727660), but as far as I can tell only bug 716714 involves the failure of these specific three panel applets to load. Two possibly notable differences between bug 716714 and this one are that (1) bug 716714 took place with the live CD, and this is with an installed system, and (2) the reporter of bug 716714 can reproduce the bug, but it's not always those specific panels that are unable to load (he indicates that in a previous run, it was the Notification Area that failed to load). I have not yet attempted to reproduce this. The thing is that I could fix that bug again, and willl explain you how to reproduce that mistake, and fix it temporarily. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. So, to reproduce that bug, you just need to browse your home directory with nautilus and try to open a music folder with totem for example. To do so, you just do a right click in nautilus, and chose totem to open that music folder. When doing this on Ubuntu 10.10, this actions modifies the following file : ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list I could realize that this actions modifies the inode/directory settings in that file, adding the value totem.desktop before nautilus.desktop. The problem is that if you try to open your home directory from the gnome toolbar, then the folder will be opened using totem instead of nautilus. To fix that bug, you just need to delete the totem.desktop entry, and the home directory will be opened again using nautilus. I don't really know why this file can be modified only by doing a right click and choosing another application to open a music folder, but the thing I am sure is that the mimeapps.list file is modified directly after this action, and create that bug. I hope my explanations was clear, and will help the Ubuntu community to fix that one. In my opinion, that bugs affects gnome settings, and not totem. Feel free to tell me again if you need more explanation. If my english was not so good, I also can explain myself in French, just let me know. [Bug 729230] Re: gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in invoke_get_all_properties_in_idle_cb()
Provided that I waited a while (I think 15 minutes or more) in between tries, bug 729065 never took more than three or four tries to reproduce. On the other hand, throughout the weekend and a bit this morning (I'm in the eastern United States), I've been trying to reproduce this bug. I haven't been putting enormous effort into this, but I think I've probably tried about 10-15 times, and I've logged out and back in, restarted, and shut down and started back up at various points in the process, while also leaving it on and logged in for over 8 hours before trying. I have still only ever produced this (as you say, impossible- seeming) crash once (when I reported it as this bug). I have not tried replacing appmenu-gtk with the PPA version in a live CD system; perhaps that would be more effective. Should I try that? Should I send you a virtual machine? It occurs to me that my description of this crash may imply a pattern that is not present. That is, I had thought this crash followed the same pattern as bug 718184 because it was produced in the same was as that crash, and because I had tried to produce it unsuccessfully several times before finally producing it. However, unlike bug 718184, this crash has not been recurring from time to time (or at all, in spite of my efforts). Perhaps the version of appmenu-gtk in your PPA really *does* completely fix bug 718184, and this crash is due to some obscure and rarely-manifesting dbus bug? Or perhaps the mechanism that triggered the crash involved some other package which has since been updated. I'm attaching a current /var/log/dpkg.log, in case it's relevant. (By the way, the issue with the desktop being themed differently between logins appears to have gone away -- now my desktop just always looks like http://launchpadlibrarian.net/65635660/natty-desktop-first- login.png -- which is why I have still not reported that as a bug.) ** Attachment added: /var/log/dpkg.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/729230/+attachment/1891582/+files/dpkg.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729230 Title: gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in invoke_get_all_properties_in_idle_cb() -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 630383] Re: Gnome-terminal paste keyboard shortcut does not work - menu not shown
OK, more info! I now believe this is actually a gnome-terminal bug that appmenu-gtk merely exacerbates. You can reproduce on stock gnome-terminal by: 1) Logging into a fresh session 2) Open a gnome-terminal 3) Click on the Edit menu 4) Now try to copy some text and paste it. It will copy, but not paste This is because when the Edit menu is activated, if no content is in the clipboard, gnome-terminal will disable pasting. But it doesn't notice when you do put content into the clipboard. Normally this isn't a problem since pasting starts enabled and you normally don't open the Edit menu before there is content in the clipboard. But appmenu-gtk forces a fake activation of the Edit menu (for its own, valid reasons) that causes pasting to be disabled on startup. So I'm working on an upstream and a distro patch. ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Michael Terry (mterry) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/630383 Title: Gnome-terminal paste keyboard shortcut does not work - menu not shown -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 609893] Re: If user hold PrintScreen button few seconds there is a hundreds of screeshot application windows
I am able to reproduce this bug on a Maverick i386 system, and also on a Natty i386 system (running a classic desktop, not Unity). Also, we know this affects Lucid--Thibault Févry reported that in a comment to bug 610847, which I have marked as a duplicate of this bug. I'm not sure what the best solution is for this bug, but I don't think preventing multiple instance of gnome-screenshot is necessarily the best way. After all, users may want to take a screenshot of a window (or a screen containing a window, or part of a window) created by gnome- screenshot itself. This could be accomplished with other programs, like GIMP, but users may not have GIMP installed or know how to use it, and typically gnome-screenshot is a much easier way to take simple screenshots. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-utils in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/609893 Title: If user hold PrintScreen button few seconds there is a hundreds of screeshot application windows -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 730664] [NEW] fail to recognize character encoding on big files
