[Bug 736632] [NEW] Disable the localized digits, or it will not work with some non-English locales

2011-03-16 Thread Tualatrix Chou
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

In Chinese locale (zh_CN.UTF-8), gcalctool is already broken because of
its localized digits feature.

I've already reported this problem to the upstream (
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=644980 ), Ubuntu should fix
it too.

A lot of Chinese users have complained about his problem:

 - http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=298629

I've fixed and tested in my bzr branch, but I'm not sure my approach is
the right way to fix this bug. Maybe we can just disable the translation
string.

[Bug 736606] [NEW] "Do Nothing" option not available by default in the power management preferences dialog

2011-03-16 Thread Googie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Usecase:
--
I want to connect my laptop to a monitor and then close the laptop lid, so that
I can continue using my laptop with the display routed to the monitor. For
doing so, I open the power management window and try to set the "When laptop
lid is closed" option to "Do Nothing". However this option is simply not
available. The only options available are "Shutdown", "Hibernate", 'Suspend" &
"Blank Screen". The "Blank Screen" option is not suitable in this case, as it
causes my monitor to display a blank screen on closing the laptop lid.

Steps to reproduce:
---
Control Center -> Power Management -> Check the options under "When laptop lid
is closed" (for both "On AC Power" and "On Battery Power" tabs)

Workaround:

Manually set the values of 'lid_ac" and/or "lid_battery" to "nothing", as
described in http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8275103&postcount=1

System configuration:

As a workaround I killed and started gome-settings-daemon manually to
get the themes working properly.

[Bug 669588] Re: gnome-power-manager does not show a tooltip anymore in 10.10

2011-03-16 Thread Joseph Iacobucci
It takes a lot more effort to click than to mouse over (it seems silly,
but you waste two clicks) in addition to the way that you got the
information before, where you had to move the mouse over the icon.

Anyway, thought you guys would want to know that my wife hates it, no
matter how much better of a "design" it is.

Side note: Changing UI stuff every year is getting silly. People like
new stuff, but they also don't like feeling dumb because things change.

[Bug 736375] Re: Please drop the "System Settings" link from the session indicator menu

2011-03-16 Thread Nathan Haines
I agree. It's obtrusive and it was very jarring to have the last entry
no longer be power-related. If it were at least at the top of the menu
that would be one thing but it doesn't belong on the bottom and I don't
feel it belongs in this menu at all.

[Bug 595008] Re: should port the GNOME Ubuntu cdbs custom rules to dh7

2011-03-16 Thread Martin Pitt
Sorry, I missed this bug when I created bug 735934 this morning. I am
mostly done with creating a dh_translations (dh-translations package
built from pkgbinarymangler) which takes over all functionality of our
cdbs langpacks.mk.

The remaining Ubuntu customizations to gnome.mk, as well as the stuff
that Debian does as well should still be ported to debhelper, and the
resulting dh_gnome should move to gnome-pkg-tools. Then Ubuntu's gnome-
pkg-tools would just need to depend on dh-translations, and we wouldn't
need any other delta.

** Summary changed:

[Bug 595008] [NEW] should port the GNOME Ubuntu cdbs custom rules to dh7

2011-03-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: debhelper

Currently our cdbs has some custom Ubuntu rules, we should port those to
dh7:

* langpack.mk:
- run intltool-update after build to create a translation template for rosetta
- set gettext domain in .desktop and .server
- strip gconf schemas translations

* debhelper.mk:
- don't ship upstream changelogs by default to win CD space
- symlink identic documentation directories
- symlink identic files in the GNOME documentation (ie screenshot in
translations identic to the english version)

Currently gnome.mk includes those which means the sources using the
gnome rules don't need any change on Ubuntu. It would be nice to have a
similar system working with dh7 since that system is becoming popular in
Debian

[Bug 269215] Re: There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)

2011-03-16 Thread Bethlehem Public Library
Bug bit me too. I got it to a point where I could get the error to cease for
one restart then it would come back.
Dell GX520 32-bit old warhorse used as a library catalog kiosk. Ubuntu v.
10.10. On boot a script restores a .tar backup of the public user profile (home
folder) so that if a user messes with the PC, we just reboot, same idea as
DeepFreeze for Windows. Upon a 3 second delay to allow the restore script to
fire and complete, auto-logon fires off into the public kiosk desktop, but the
"254" error comes up first, hit OK and everything is just fine with how the PC
operates.
I tried all the solutions everyone has suggested and it's not flying, or it
might only work for one round, and I am creating a new .TAR after each attempt
to fix so I don't overwrite the fix on reboot.
Here's a clue: if I do a restart, it goes clean (sometimes). A cold boot yeilds
the error consistantly.
I hope someone can see something in my .xsession... file that would point to
what I'm missing.
Thanks to all,
Alex Ernst

[Bug 736375] [NEW] Please drop the "System Settings" link from the session indicator menu

2011-03-16 Thread Benjamin Drung
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Please drop the "System Settings" link from the session indicator menu.
It does not belong to the session indicator menu. I fail to connect
system setting with shutdown (the icon of the session indicator). Please
don't reinvent an mistake from another software company that put
"shutdown" under a "start" menu.

This change was introduces in bug #727823.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 569273] Re: memory leak in gnome-power-manager

2011-03-16 Thread Michael Terry
** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu Lucid)
   Status: Invalid => Won't Fix

** Description changed:

+ 10.10 SRU
+ I'm requesting a backported fix for 10.10's gnome-power-manager based on the
menu leak I found in 11.04. It's a simple one-line change, only affecting
gnome-power-manager (rather than fixing root cause in libappindicator, because
that potentially may adversely affect consumers that worked around it, though
we know of none).
+
+ gnome-power-manager is seemingly the worst offender, so it gets special
+ treatment. Test case right below. Watch memory use for a bit. It may
+ go up for a few minutes, but then stabilizes.
+
+ Debdiff to follow, it's already been uploaded to maverick-proposed.
+ ===
+
TEST CASE: (at the beginning because it's a long post):
- 1. Monitor the output of the command for a few hours
- $ watch -n1 'grep heap -A11 /proc/$( pidof gnome-power-manager )/smaps'
+ 1. Monitor the output of the command for a few hours
+   $ watch -n1 'grep heap -A11 /proc/$( pidof gnome-power-manager )/smaps'

  VERIFICATION SUCCEEDED:
  - Memory usage is stable over time
-

  DESCRIPTION:
  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

gnome-power-manager (2.30.0-0ubuntu1) seems to have a memory leak my
machine running Lucid. I witnessed it using up to 120MB in the RES
column according to "top". My machine is 64 bit and is connected to a
APC uninterruptible power supply. I haven't yet tried unplugging it to
see if the UPS is somehow related to this problem. Another person
reported a similar problem in bug #196688 comment 25. Opening a new bug
seemed like a good idea since that bug was fixed 2 years ago.

Here is some information for what gnome-power-manager looks like after
running for a long period of time (from /proc/`pidof
gnome-power-manager`/smaps):
  0147b000-0881 rw-p 00:00 0

I rebooted my machine and let it sit at the login screen. I logged via ssh
and found that gnome-power-manager was using the following:

I logged out of my ssh session and didn't touch the machine until 5 and 1/2
hours later---and I logged in again remotely with ssh to check on
gnome-power-manager and found:

[Bug 709804] Re: citeing does not work when answering to an e-mail!

2011-03-16 Thread Till Lorentzen
I have got the same problem on the german version. Normaly, if you click
on "Answer" a mail, the full content of the original mail is copied to
the end of new mail, with an information when this cited content has
been received.

If the sender has got any umlaut/mutation in his name, only the line
with the received information is copied. But the original mail content
wouldn't be copied. If the name of the original sender hasn't got any
umlaut/mutation in his name, all of the old message is copied to the end
of the new Message.

I hope this little description helps you to find the problem. Perhaps it
is an encoding problem.

[Bug 736270] [NEW] on bootup battery check freezes system

2011-03-16 Thread Susan Cragin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

This is a regression.
As of yesterday sometime (that is, 15 March 2011) I have been unable to boot
normally into my computer.
The startup menu stalls on "battery check."
This problem is not unique to my machine, since I also have an Asus G1S that is
doing the same thing.
However, both machines run 64-bit Studio and have the same kernel, same
software.
I have tried booting in both plugged and unplugged, and get the same thing.

[Bug 736253] [NEW] Screensaver does not work intermittently

2011-03-16 Thread peterzay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Occasionally, the screensaver won't kick in. This is a very
intermittent problem. It is a potential security threat if you leave
your machine expecting screensaver lockup but don't get it and expose
sensitive content, like bank/brokerage sites and accounts. The only
user app running was Firefox.

[Bug 175233] Re: Evolution hangs with "Formatting Message" after several hours

2011-03-16 Thread Craig Gowing
On a whole bunch of identical Ubuntu desktops with identical
configurations, this problem is only affecting one user. Even when this
user logs into a different desktop, the problem seems to follow them.

The evolution process gets stuck in futex_wait and after killing
evolution and restarting, it will freeze again immediately. The only way
to unfreeze and restart evolution is to kill evolution-data-server as
well. This occurs about 2 to 4 times a day.

The problem only started after the user first tried to use the calender,
however even after clearing out all evolution data and configuration the
problem remained. The only common factor to all of this is the
addressbook.db file. We will remove this and start a new addressbook.db
file from scratch... lets hope this fixes the problem.
