This is similar to eog (bug 741242). The original consensus two weeks

[Bug 563226] Re: Nautilus Ctrl+Q to close all windows instead of Ctrl+Shift+W

2011-04-05 Thread shinji2001xyz
Hi,

Given the Q and W are close to each other, wouldn't it be possible to
have a confirmation dialog before closing all nautilus windows. Hitting
CTRL+Q instead of W is just a bad surprise when you work with lots of
nautilus windows (one workaround is to 'pkill nautilus' to restore
nautilus windows session state, except that gnome-session can register
the windows state only on logout).

Having a confirmation dialog for CTRL+Q would follow the logic of
firefox. Or an option to disable CTRL+Q would be good as well.

cheers,
Sylvain

[Bug 751101] [NEW] mms: links don't open in totem

2011-04-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: firefox

Upon clicking (or navigating in any way) an mms: link Firefox asks in
which app it should be opened and suggests Totem. However selecting
Totem and clicking OK doesn't launch it, saying in console:

** (firefox-bin:11187): WARNING **: Could not launch default
application for URI: The specified location is not supported

This is happening in Firefox 4 in Natty beta. Firefox:
4.0~rc2+build3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2.
It used to work in Minefield in Maverick and from the look at about:plugins
everything seems identical. Also mms: links *do* open from Thunderbird in
Natty. I will be happy to do some logging/debugging, just tell me how :-).

[Bug 751101] Re: mms: links don't open in totem

2011-04-05 Thread Chris Coulson
There's actually multiple bugs here.

The only Firefox bug is that you even get offered to open mms links in
totem at all, because totem doesn't have x-scheme-handler/mms defined in
its desktop file. Once bug 727372 is fixed, Firefox will (correctly)
display an error message saying Firefox doesn't know how to open this
address, because the protocol (mms) isn't associated with any program.

If totem can handle mms links, it needs to declare this in its desktop
file (which is a totem bug).

Thunderbird only works because it is still using gnomevfs, which is
deprecated anyway and will stop working in the future too (but we will
have proper gio support then).

3. Hit CTRL+SHIFT+Q (or W)

[Bug 740818] Re: Can't set Keyboard layout at installation and later on

2011-04-05 Thread Maraschin
I've just tried to install Ubuntu Beta-1 server (AMD 64) and it is even worse.
Now I do not have the option to select the keyboard when installing.
It asks me for the locale but I do use English as the language and Swedish as
the keyboard.
I've no way to select such combination in the BETA-1 release.

If I try to go back in the installation and select Configure the
Keyboard, it does ignore my selection and goes back to set the
partition...

BTW, the selection of the keyboard in the boot process of the CD, before
I start to install ubuntu, does work but it seems totally irrelevant
since it will not carry the information when the installation process
starts.

[Bug 705791] Re: 10.04, Multi Monitor: gnome-screensaver does not show login dialog after resume in docking station with lid closed.

2011-04-05 Thread Torsten Spindler
I just reproduced the problem with a T61 and a docking station using
Natty, following the sequence in the bug description.

1) Laptop is placed in a docking station
2) gnome-display-properties has been used to disable the internal laptop screen
and only use the external display, this is stored in the gnome monitors.xml
3) Laptop is undocked
4) Laptop is suspended
5) Laptop is placed in docking station and resumes

Expected result:
gnome-screensaver displays a login prompt.

Actual result:
gnome-screensaver has to be killed from the console to gain access to the
session.

** Summary changed:

[Bug 751163] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon crashes during use

2011-04-05 Thread Ramon Casha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Sometimes while using the system, gnome-settings-daemon crashes with the
following output:
-
The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 5066 error_code 8 request_code 15 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I think the fix is really simple. We could modify the alacarte desktop

NotShowIn=KDE;

to:

NotShowIn=KDE;Unity;

We may probably need to patch Bamf to support the NotShowIn option.

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

That is as it should be. The language chooser on the bottom panel sets
the user language, while it's the system language that controls in which
language the labels on the login screen are displayed. Please use
System - Administration - Language Support
to change language system-wide, if that is what you want to do.

 B.issue after login
 1. logout
 2. select ”漢語 台灣“ (Traditional Chinese) on the bottom panel
 3. input password then login the system
 4. the language keeps no changes as English

If you select Chinese (Taiwan) or Chinese (Hong Kong) with the
language chooser on the login screen, and then log in, the session
indeed should be displayed in traditional Chinese. Did you really log
out first, or could it possibly be that you just returned to an
already existing session?

[Bug 726245] Re: Empathy contact list

2011-04-05 Thread david
apologies for not replying though ive managed to find out what has
happened. After logging onto my msn account on a windows computer i have
found that Empathy had deleted all of the contacts. to confirm this i
tried other im messaging programs through software centre. By logging
onto a windows messenger through windows i managed to gain all my
contacts again through the privacy blocked page.

I would still like to find out why this came about, and have noticed
through google search other people have had the same problems.

[Bug 751101] Re: mms: links don't open in totem

2011-04-05 Thread Ivan Sagalaev
Chris, thanks for the quick and useful reply!

I've updated Totem's desktop file per your suggestion and it fixed the
problem for me locally. Documenting the workaround for anyone who would
stumble upon this issue:

[Bug 732410] Re: flac decoding is broken in some manner for gstreamer

2011-04-05 Thread utnubu
For me this happens only when using (fresh) 11.04 alpha/beta releases.
No problems on 10.10 or earlier Ubuntu's or other Linux distributions.
It's an audible problem: some flac files have small crackling or
skipping ticks in them, so not all flac files have these problems.

[Bug 751260] [NEW] needs to gksudo before installing font

2011-04-05 Thread seahen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Ubuntu 10.10, gnome-control-center 1:2.32.0-0ubuntu2

When I click Install Font in gnome-font-viewer, the button changes to
Install Failed. If I run gnome-font-viewer with gksudo, the font
installs successfully. I expect gnome-font-viewer to know that
installing fonts requires root, since that's the case in a fresh Ubuntu
installation, and to use gksudo accordingly.

[Bug 732410] Re: flac decoding is broken in some manner for gstreamer

2011-04-05 Thread utnubu
Apologies, some parts of my comment (#2) seemed to have gone missing. I
also wanted to add that I tried all kind of settings in
/etc/pulse/daemon.pa and all kinds of 'fixes' for pulseaudio and non of
them worked.

Since both VLC and mplayer have no problems with the playback and the
diagnostics of post #1 are the same as mine, I subscrib to the idea that
likely gst-plugins-good is the culprit.
