[Bug 736349] Re: Test speakers is silent

2011-04-12 Thread Robert Ancell
Since upgrading a few days ago, I'm getting the original behaviour (only
bell sound and only if window and button sounds are enabled). It
doesn't use the freedesktop sound theme anymore. Interestingly,
disabling the patch also doesn't make it work.

[Bug 733866] Re: Battery indicator shows Laptop battery is charged when is not

2011-04-12 Thread Kyle Reynolds
I may have figured it out. You'll have to calibrate the battery under
ubuntu.

open gconf-editor from Terminal.

go to apps/gnome-power-manager/actions.

set critical_battery to nothing.

unplug machine.

let it die.

plug it in.

KEEP IT ON THE CHARGER.

unplug.

seems to work for my HP dv6000 so far.

[Bug 754583] Re: UIFe: Launcher - update launcher reveal interaction to make it more accessible to first time users

2011-04-12 Thread Didier Roche
Hey Jason,

Just a small note on the impact on 1.:
We sent yesterday the .pot tempate file and processed the string freeze break
so that the translator can have some time to translate. So we need to keep that
in mind if we are going to rephrase (we already changed a lot of strings after
the freeze and I hope we are going to have a fully translated Unity in all
major language).

[Bug 750451] Re: [te]Bugs in Telugu, Kannda rendering-regression on 11.04 beta1

2011-04-12 Thread Robert Ancell
The changes to pango should in quilt format, I've extracted the patch from the
bug and am attaching here.
Review of the patch:
- It is a large and complex change
- There are a number of unnecessary changes, e.g. whitespace or comments that
seem obsolete. This will make the patch an ongoing problem to apply
- Upstream has closed the bug as fixed and not allowed the patch to be applied
to trunk. I'm not sure what the reason for this is.

For the above reasons I can't tell how correct this patch is, and the
change seems to carry a lot of risk and has an ongoing maintenance
issue.

Arjuna, for this patch to be accepted I would want to see someone
experienced in Pango to review it and say it is safe/correct, and the
patch be as small as possible so it only contains the required changes.

[Bug 758522] [NEW] Nautilus unusable: every action takes CPU usage to 100% and freezes the UI for 10 seconds

2011-04-12 Thread Vítor Souza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch)
Release:11.04

$ apt-cache policy nautilus
nautilus:
  Installed: 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu13
  Candidate: 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu13
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu13 0
500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When I open nautilus, it takes CPU usage to 100% and freezes the UI for
5-10 seconds. Everything I do in it (open a folder, expand a folder in
the tree view, etc.) does the same thing. Sometimes unity-panel-service

[Bug 717971] Re: Can't provide password for account capplet although it asks me to

2011-04-12 Thread Rodrigo Moya
Also, jo, you shouldn't be using root user for your X session. It's for
security, so please create a user and use that. Also, it seems from your
comments that you're using 10.10, which AFAIK doesn't have the fix for
this, and also, your last comment, it seems your problem is a separate
issue than the original bug. That is, you're saying you're never getting
asked for a password because you get a timeout, so since you're using a
proxy, make sure the proxy settings are correctly entered in Evolution's
preferences.

But if the problem you're mentioning is not about the evolution-settings
process this bug refers to, please file a separate bug

For me, this occurs when using the guest session and logging out or
switching back to the original user session. It doesn't obviously cause
any other problems apart from the error report - and the loss of the
power status icon.

[Bug 721142] Re: System program problem detected

2011-04-12 Thread Raphael J. Schmid
I'm experiencing the same thing on every boot-up, on every machine where
I've installed Natty, and it's annoying as hell. At the very least the
window should tell about what the crash was caused by. Better yet, the
other (default?) crash dialog could be used, the one with the don't
show for this program anymore option. Seeing as it appears so
frequently and seems to affect quite a lot of testers, I don't think
it's invalid...

I agree with Raphael; indeed this ought to be fixed before the Natty
release. We don't want to bother the common user with that pointless
alert, do we?

is the crash dialog you get about policykit every time? that's likely a
crash on session closing that you see on next login because the apport
dialog is displayed, we turn apport off in stable version so it
shouldn't be any issue there

[Bug 757610] Re: Cannot start icewm from the login page

2011-04-12 Thread Barry Fishman
I spoke too soon in the last message. I tried this morning to login with IceWM
and failed
in all attempts. I added a 5 second sleep to /etc/gdm/Xsession, thinking it
might be that
the server did not have enough time to initialize, but had the same result.

I put a 'set +x' at the start of /etc/gdm/Xsession and have attached the
resulting
.xsession-errors file, for a new user with no .profile or .X* files.

I don't know why but, in Ubuntu Natty, pressing space actually does
toggle play/pause although, in the menu, the shortcut appears to be
CTRL-space... The major problem with this behaviour is that you can't
type space in the search bar without toggling play/pause... Very
disturbing!

[Bug 740387] Re: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop

2011-04-12 Thread Colin Watson
What's supposed to be responsible for setting capture_before_unmap to
true? Right now, it's simply set to true in metacity.schemas, which
doesn't fit with how Bill is saying it's supposed to work.

I generally notice this problem when switching workspaces, although it
doesn't happen in every such situation. The following is a reliable way
to reproduce it for me. I have a grid of four horizontal by three
vertical workspaces; I have C-A-1, C-A-2, ..., C-A-0 bound to switch to
each of the first ten of those twelve workspaces, and C-A-Left,
C-A-Right, C-A-Up, and C-A-Down bound to move around the workspace grid
in the obvious way. At the moment, I have maximised terminals open in
the first three workspaces (and others). If I start from workspace 1,
press C-A-3 to switch to workspace 3, then hold down C-A and press Left
twice to switch back through workspace 2 to workspace 1, I find that
parts of the workspace switcher remain on screen even after releasing
C-A. (Don't release C-A between the two Left presses, or this bug won't
happen.) I've attached the resulting screen image.

[Bug 740387] Re: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop

2011-04-12 Thread Bill Filler
@colin
couple of things here:
- capture_before_unmap should be set to false by default in metacity.schemas,
so that is a definitely a bug
- unity-2d package should set capture_before_unmap to true in it's
debian/20_unity-2d-gconf-default file which sets the gconf defaults for the
unity-2d session

We will provide merge requests for these two packages. Thanks for
pointing it out, I thought it was already doing it this way.

Also, if you set capture_before_unmap = false can you reproduce the
corruption?

[Bug 758811] [NEW] Weird scrolling with PDF containing differently sized pages

2011-04-12 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I'm hitting a weird bug with Evince.

I'm opening the attached PDF and maximise the window. Fit Width and
Continous are selected. I scrolled down very quickly by holding down the
Page down key. It eventually loops (sic!) between page 6 and 7. I can
hold the key Page down key forever and it'll keep looping. I cannot
scroll down. Same problem exists if I slowly press the page down key.
Same thing for space. It works using the down arrow though. Note that
page 7 has different dimensions.

This issue is quite reproducable. Not always though.
