2011-05-22 Thread Fredrik Jonson
This issue has been reported independently to gnome bugzilla.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637219

There's even a comment that has identified it as a race condition and
has offered a simplistic workaround to prove that.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637219#c6

I experience this issue almost every time I log in on natty with gnome
classic.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-22 Thread mellofello
Same basic problem, but found a potential shoddy workaround:
-Natty, Helios screensaver, 945GM/GMS/GME + 943/940GML Express IG Controller,
EeePC 900HA Netbook...

When the screen locks up, I have used the VGA port to sometimes get the display
back.
1. Plug-in a VGA cable (I have one hooked up to a TV anyhow)
2. Use the built-in (or pre-configure) hotkeys (for me Fn+F5) to cycle through
the multiple monitor modes -wait a few secs each time

Hopefully something will reappear. In my case I have had:
-parts of the screen reappear (enough to right click a launcher in, terminal
etc.)
-parts of the screen come back with other parts reappearing when spawned (eg.
click gnome menu, parts unfold clearing screen)

-the whole screen comes back

-both screens come back

If this doesn't work, try taking the VGA cord out and recycling through
the modes again. S-video/HDMI might work as well.

It might be worthwhile to write a refresh script you can get to with a
keyboard shortcut or alias you can put in a terminal. That way you
won't even need visual output to get you started.

Still no solution.

[Bug 756930] Re: Previous Conversations window gets ever larger with Clean, Simple and Blue chat themes

2011-05-22 Thread frederik.nnaji
i think we need to fix the higher level problem here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/694533

the window would be to the point and concise, if it actually showed
only recent conversations with the contact it was opened for.

a general recency sorted overview for all contacts would also be
desireable, but it should be sorted according to recency or frequency of
contact, and not at all in the impractical manner in which it is now

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-22 Thread Sean Fenton
mellofello, that's really interesting. I'll try that out.

I'm still looking for a way to logout cleanly, closing all programs,
until this is fixed. I've now tried the commands gnome-session-save
--logout gnome-session-save --force-logout.

(The deprecated command gnome-session-save --kill --silent is indicated in
these places:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=222173
https://www.linux.com/archive/feature/153953 )

No matter what, I get the error ** (gnome-session-save:PID): WARNING
**: Unable to start: Cannot open display:. I don't know enough to
troubleshoot this my searches haven't yielded anything.

Ctrl+s is now muscle memory, that's for sure.

[Bug 786507] [NEW] in natty, nautilus do not automatically refresh Desktop window

2011-05-22 Thread Romano Giannetti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Starting with natty, Nautilus do not refresh automatically the icon view
of the Desktop folder. If I save/move a file in this folder, it is not
shown (nor in the desktop of Unity) until I click on refresh or press
F5. In other folders, nautilus works as usual.

A notify problem?

Will attach screenshots showing this.

As you can see, there are two files in ~/Desktop (sorry for the screenshot

[Bug 762187] Re: recurring 10 min invalid query dialog box from google contact sync

2011-05-22 Thread Michael Seifert
Following this tracker for a while, I know have found a solution that
works for me. I found the problem using the libgdata debug described
above, but with Evolution 3 and libgdata 0.8.1. Thus, Evolution it put a
more conclusive error message which led me to this:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=648058

Maybe that's also your problem. As described there, you could either
wait for libgdata 0.8.2 being released. As a workaround, you could
instead delete or label all user-defined fields in your Google contacts.

I did not know which of my contacts have such fields, and using the
Google web interface to find it out is obviously very inconvenient.
Instead, I started libgdata in debug mode (see above), wrote stdout to a
logfile and searched this file for the term user. With this method, I
quickly found all the contacts containing user-defined fields and
deleted those fields (if unlabeled). After that, syncing works well
again (also with Evo 2.32 and libgdata 0.8.0 as installed with Natty).

Public bug reported:

Hi,

i'm running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS.

When using network-manager to connect to the wifi, I get disconnected every few
minutes (or few seconds).
in dmesg, i can see messages such as
[ 1463.913102] wlan0: deauthenticating from a2:a1:d7:41:29:45 by local choice

[ 1464.047227] wlan0: deauthenticating from a2:a1:d7:41:29:45 by local choice

When I use wicd instead of network-manager, I have no problem at all,
the connection is fine, and doesn't disconnect.

[Bug 571038] Re: palimpsest crash with libgdu:ERROR:gdu-pool.c:2369:device_recurse: assertion failed: (depth 100)

2011-05-22 Thread Somogyi Ádám
Hi, I was getting this same error, since I've installed natty.
Automounting was not working with partitions, CDROMs and USB keys.

My partition table looked OK to me, only fdisk complained something
about an empty partition being omitted.

I've tried fixparts from the gptfdisk utilities, and it helped.

So, here is my partition table before fixparts, in sfdisk -d format:

# partition table of /dev/sda
unit: sectors

/dev/sda1 : start= 63, size= 49158837, Id= 7, bootable
/dev/sda2 : start= 49158900, size=1201099725, Id= f
/dev/sda3 : start=0, size=0, Id= 0
/dev/sda4 : start=0, size=0, Id= 0
/dev/sda5 : start= 49158963, size=251915202, Id= 7
/dev/sda6 : start=301074228, size= 16000677, Id=83
/dev/sda7 : start=317074968, size= 65545137, Id= 7
/dev/sda8 : start=382620168, size=867638457, Id= 7

and after:

# partition table of /dev/sda
unit: sectors

/dev/sda1 : start= 63, size= 49158837, Id= 7, bootable
/dev/sda2 : start= 49158962, size=1201099663, Id= f
/dev/sda3 : start=0, size=0, Id= 0
/dev/sda4 : start=0, size=0, Id= 0
/dev/sda5 : start= 49158963, size=251915202, Id= 7
/dev/sda6 : start=301074228, size= 16000677, Id=83
/dev/sda7 : start=317074968, size= 65545137, Id= 7
/dev/sda8 : start=382620168, size=867638457, Id= 7

I hope that's proves to be useful!

[Bug 786623] [NEW] Totem coherence sudden freezes

2011-05-22 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04 amd64
totem 2.32.0-0ubuntu

Something that works perfectly in i386, when playing some files from upnp totem
goes to sudden freezes. The screen and filelist turns grey, the played song was
played to end. It did not wake up from this state again, must be killed by
taskmgr and works again for a few song.
VLC goes sometime in short greyout, but finds out from itself and plays on.
Don't know why these quirks only affects the amd64 distri and works very well
on i386.

[Bug 786630] [NEW] XML entities in usernames are inconsistently escaped

2011-05-22 Thread Tom Adams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When a contact uses characters outside the ASCII range, they appear as
their escaped XML entities throughout most parts of the UI, including:
the contact list, the title bar, the tab. But inside the chat window, it
appears as the intended characters.

In this case, the user's name is 大神, and the corresponding XML
character entity references are #x5927;#x795E;.

[Bug 786712] [NEW] Cannot import keys

2011-05-22 Thread l0b0
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

Sequence:
1. Remote - Find Remote Keys...
2. Search for a name which results in some keys being displayed
3. Select one or more keys
4. Click Import

Expected outcome:

As an alternattive solution to the problem, perhaps it would be a better
idea to implement the Mozilla Thunderbird Spell Checker. To me it has
an easier to use interface and does a better job of suggesting possible
alternative spelling possibilities.

[Bug 562674] Re: nautilus Large file copy timed out

2011-05-22 Thread Jason Workman
I am experiencing the same problem in lucid. Nautilus v. 2.30.1. All
systems up to date. While writing a file to my NAS with Nautilus over
smb/cifs, iftop shows the connection start to degrade until it times
out. I just tried a test file to an empty folder on the NAS like Calvin
and I have a much faster write speed and no time out. This behavior only
happens when I write to the share from my computer. I can read without
problem. I can copy from one share drive on the NAS to another drive
also on the NAS without issue. In all cases, I sometimes have the
connection drop to 0K transfer and recover without issue except when
writing from the desktop to the NAS. Any ideas?
