[Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid

2011-06-11 Thread Pausanias
You have got to be kidding me. What is the point of LTS then? I cannot
simply update my machine. I am running LTS in a production
environment. I am supposed to be relying on the vaunted rock-solid
stability of LTS. Lucid has several years to go in its life span.

It speaks volumes about Ubuntu's commitment to LTS that you would even
post that. If Canonical does not have the resources to support LTS
properly---especially for a bug where something as basic as the file
open dialog is malfunctioning in an insidious and potentially harmful
way---then do not support it at all. Do not make the claim of LTS.

[Bug 648379] Re: Artifacts when scaling down with Sinc Lanczos3

2011-06-11 Thread Harenome Ranaivoarivony Razanajato
I can confirm that resizing at 1/5 of the original size can cause the
appearance of some artifacts.

I have tried with the sizes you have been using, and with an original size of
1000x1000.
I have also tried with a 1200x1200 picture resized to 200x200, and the same
problem occurs. Maybe the range is wider than you thought, as it also happens
around a 1/6 ratio.

Also, it seem to occur only with white. I haven't been able to reproduce
the bug if the image is filled with another color.

[Bug 795388] Re: GEdit doesn't guess the encoding if file is opened with doubleclick

2011-06-11 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I cannot reproduce this problem in Ubuntu 11.04 -- what
version of Ubuntu/gedit are you using? When I double click on a file
with cyrillic letters saved in Windows-1251 it is opened correctly.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 795690] [NEW] npviewer, vlc and other media players and web video doesn't stop power management settings or screensaver

2011-06-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I'm watching fullscreen video in Kubuntu 11.04 after 5 mins or more
the screen goes black but I still have sounds so I have to move the
mouse or keyboard to get another 5 mins. This happens in firefox, vlc
and most fullscreen playback apps. Not major but very annoying. I
realise I can change the Power Management to Performance or Presentation
or whatever but it would be much nicer if KDE or Kubuntu to prevent
black screens when watching full screen video. Thanks for any help.

[Bug 794336] Re: Cannot mount CDROM

2011-06-11 Thread CapnBill
This bug is not a Ubuntu issue it is a firmware problem with the HP DVD writer
740B.
I have not been able to update the firmware HP apparently only likes Windows.
This firmware bug causes the drive to ignore completely some types of DVD's and
CD's.
Disks from some sources work fine.
The problem is intermitant and a disk will be recognized once in several try's,
sometimes not.

[Bug 795517] [NEW] A right click Open Containing Folder on Downloads box will use app other than nautilus if -

2011-06-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: firefox

There is an inode/directory=whatever.desktop in the [Added Associations]
section of ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
There are now 2 sections created in mimeapps - [Added Associations] and
[Default Applications]
As soon as someone opens a folder with an app other than nautilus from the
r.click 'open with other application' 2 inode/directory= lines will be
created, one in each section
The default will set to nautilus-folder-handler, the added to the app chosen

Firefox is incorrectly using the[Added Associations] section

Ex.
[Added Associations]
inode/directory=vlc.desktop;

[Default Applications]
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop

When doing the r. click, ect. on the Downloads box vlc will be opened

(there is a gnome shell extension (places dropdown) that does the exact
same thing, the dev seems to feel it conforms to specs, irregardless
this behavior is wrong here and there.

[Bug 795517] Re: A right click Open Containing Folder on Downloads box will use app other than nautilus if -

2011-06-11 Thread Doug McMahon
Initially thought this was just limited to the firefox and a nautilus
extension. It also will affect removable media like usb drives and mounted
internal drives
While the user can reset back to nautilus.desktop by choosing 'Files' from
the open with other application context menu this again is going to cause
confusion among users.

If the initial list was created like this and any additional associations
append to the line than no issues would arise
[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus.desktop;vlc.desktop;

[Default Applications]
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop

Noting that in the added section it must be nautilus.desktop;, not
nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;
Otherwise the 4 actions seen so far would need to be adjusted to use the
[Default Applications] instead.

[Bug 795901] [NEW] Cannot log into Unity, Gnome. Cannot launch GTK apps

2011-06-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is fresh Natty install with previos home partition. Root and home
partitions are on SSD. I have nVidia card.

After GDM is started it tries to log me in automatically as it is set
to. However it never reaches the desktop. All I get is Ubuntu wallpaper
and mouse cursor. By pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete I get back into GDM. The
only session I can succesfully log into is the recovery console.

I tried installing Unity-2D from PPA, after I logged into this session
the unity panels appeared for a while but they were blinking rapidly
only to disappear completelly after I tried eg. launch an application.

I installed nvidia-current.

I tried temporarily removing ~/.config folder but nothing changed.

I tried installing Xubuntu-desktop but the system would not deliver
anything but wallpaper either so I removed xubuntu* and xfce*

Finally installing Kubuntu-desktop I can log into Kubuntu session I am
in now in. However I cannot launch Firefox, Chromium, Nautilus so I
guess the problem is GTK or Gnome related.

Please ask for any additional files I can provide.

[Bug 795986] [NEW] CPU running at 80-90% at idle

2011-06-11 Thread nick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

When I start ubuntu, the CPU is showing 80-90% use just at an idle
desktop. If I open an application then the CPU is always jumping to
100%--which makes doing things very slow. At idle desktop, the Processes
in the System Monitor are all showing 0% CPU usage. Yet my CPU is
showing between 80-90% under Resources at idle.

[Bug 795985] [NEW] gcalctool needs to interpret comma (, ) as decimal dot (.)

2011-06-11 Thread Patrik Nilsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

When using the Swedish (among others) keyboard layout, the numerical

comma as a decimal dot and you need to type the dot from the main
keyboard.

[Bug 741409] Re: update-initramfs -u fails, libpango1.0-0 and pango-basic-fs.so missing

2011-06-11 Thread Ian
It may be marked fixed, but this bit me today doing an apt-get dist-
upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 with freshly downloaded packages.

Oh, and of course

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pango/

should be

/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/pango/

for 32 bit systems.

For other people caught by it, see

2011-06-11 Thread Ian
Oh, I'd also argue with the labelling this as a 'low' importance bug: as
part of a dist-upgrade, this leaves you with a system that will not boot
into the 11.04 kernel!

Fortunately, you're left with the previous versions and can use that to
fix things (a symbolic link between where the pango directory is and
where the update-initramfs script expects it to be, typically).

clientLogin response statusCode was 440 (0): response

Google-Fu indicates that the problem is existent among libpurple users
in general, Adium users apparently can't log in, too. Seems like ICQ
banned the DevId used by libpurple.

This happened after I upgraded to 10.10 or 11.04 (I did both in one day,

[Bug 334125] Re: Search not showing hidden files

2011-06-11 Thread Ari Torhamo
I just spent quite a lot of time searching for my .evolution folder (it
has changed place in Ubuntu 11.04) with Nautilus search. I searched for
nautilus, .nautilus, mail, mbox etc. until I moved to Google,
wondering where else the .evolution folder could be than in my home
floder. A half an hour later I found out that Nautilus search can't see
hidden files. Then I read that the bug has been open for over four
years. Aaaarghhh.

Later I remembered that I have faced this bug before, but I had
forgotten it. I wonder if I'm going to forget it again, and after a few
years desperately searching for some hidden file that I know should be
there...

Sorry for the unhelpful message.

[Bug 796088] Re: SMTP timout on sending mail

2011-06-11 Thread Eliah Kagan
If you are requesting (further) assistance, rather than attempting to
report a bug, then you should post again in
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+question/160104
rather than creating a bug report. If that is the case, you can close
this bug report by changing its Status from Incomplete to Invalid. If
you are unsure if you want to be reporting a bug at this point, please
read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs carefully.

If you decide to close this bug report as Invalid, then you do not need
to provide the information I am about to request. Otherwise (that is, if
you are really trying to report a bug), please read on...

As I explained in
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+question/160104,
URL's that start with file:// are not accessible over the Internet.
However, unlike questions, bugs on Launchpad support attachments. Please
attach the screenshot to this bug (use the Add attachment or patch
link near the bottom of this bug page). It is easiest to view if it is
not compressed (and not tarred either), and PNG files do not tend to be
extremely large.

When bugs are reported with Apport, they automatically attach
significant information to the bug report. You did not report this with
Apport, but you can still use Apport to attach some of the useful
information. Please open a Terminal window, and run:

apport-collect 796088

Please make sure that this bug occurs for multiple users (if you only
have one account on your Ubuntu system, you can create another one for
testing purposes), and that it occurs for multiple email services with
multiple, distinct SMTP servers in Evolution. Please ensure that the
SMTP servers are accessible to your machine (that is, that the breakage
is occurring in Evolution), by making sure that you can connect to them
successfully using another email application on the same machine, such
as Thunderbird. Since you have already opened a question about this
issue
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+question/160104),
if you need assistance performing any of those actions, you could
request it there. If the problem turns out to occur for only one user,
then it will be necessary to investigate the relevant differences
between Evolution's configuration in the different user accounts, to
determine if there is really a bug and if so, its precise nature. If the
problem turns out to be SMTP-server-specific or SMTP-client-nonspecific,
then it is probably not a bug in Evolution, but instead a problem
somewhere else.

Once you have attached the screenshot, provided the requested
information with apport-collect, and posted the results of the testing
requested in the above paragraph, please feel free to change this bug's
status back from Incomplete to New.
