[Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share

2011-06-19 Thread Karl Kropf
For what it's worth, I experienced this problem trying to set up a two-
way share with a Windows 7 machine. I'm running Ubuntu Studio 10.04. I
installed samba (via the Software Centre) and could see the machine in
PlacesNetwork but all I could see when double clicking on the icon for
the machine was ADMIN$ and C$. Double clicking on either of these
brought up the password pop-up and the attendant problems above. To cut
a longish story short, I went here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Samba/SambaClientGuide

and found out that the standard 'Software Centre' install of samba (on
my machine) did not include 'nautilus-share' (I had no trouble getting
access to the machine from the Windows client). I installed nautilus-
share and tried again. This time opening the machine on PlacesNetwork
I could see ADMIN$, C$ and Users. Double clicking on the Users folder
brings up the password pop-up which works fine - I have access to that
directory and all its contents (even though some have the lock icon.
Trying to open either of the other directories does not work, however
(same problem). One quirk is that the pop-up comes up twice, even if
you cancel.

Hope this is of some use.

[Bug 728040] [NEW] Global Menu: Terminal: View-Show Menubar toggle makes no sense

2011-06-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When GNOME Terminal is running under Unity with global menu, the option
View-Show Menubar is still shown which doesn't make sense (it makes
no difference and is not necessarily applicable.

This is probably a Won't Fix for the moment as a solution would require
making Gnome Terminal aware of the environment that the terminal is
running under (more codepaths to test and debug).

[Bug 799351] [NEW] network-manager does not connect Mobile-Broadband, but sakis3g and wvdial can connect

2011-06-19 Thread Martin Z
Public bug reported:

Problem:
On my system Network-Manager (version 0.8) cannot establish connection with my
Mobile-Broadband modem.
sakis3g (version 0.2.0e; http://www.sakis3g.org/)and wvdial are able to do it.
Windows version of mwconn (ixconn; version 0.4; http://www.mwconn.com) connects
without problems.

I have :
* uname -a
  Linux martin-laptop 2.6.32-32-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 20 21:54:21 UTC
2011 i686 GNU/Linux
  with latest updates.
* GSM-Modem: Huawei E156G (now unlocked, in the past Three Austria)
* SIM Card from Yess (www.yess.at)

In the past I used the modem with a three sim card without problems. The new
sim card was working
with the delivered modem (Huawei E170) after I have deleted all Mobile
Broadband connections and
created a new one.

I dont know what modem-manager and network-manager are doing in background, but
I have expected that any sim card is working with an unlocked supported modem.

Below my gathered information. Maybe somebody finds something.

After reboot with connected modem:

[Bug 758335] Re: gdm ignores keyboard input because Slow Keys was secretly turned on

2011-06-19 Thread Yitzchak Gale
This does not appear to have anything to do with slow keys persisting
after being set in a user session.

Slow Keys is now always in effect on the natty gdm login screen on this
system, even though neither I nor any other user on this system has ever
used it during a regular session as far as anyone can remember.

In the meantime, how in the world can this be shut off? I can't find any
gdm configuration for this. This is extremely annoying.

[Bug 758335] Re: gdm ignores keyboard input because Slow Keys was secretly turned on

2011-06-19 Thread Yitzchak Gale
In gdm, when you hold down the shift key for 8 seconds, Slow Keys gets
turned on *silently*.

In a user session, #41427 is a known issue that the pop-up notification
about this sometimes is invisible because it is behind other windows,
and that the default is to enable Slow Keys if there is no user action.
But in gdm the situation is even worse - no pop-up or any other
notification ever appears. To any user not already familiar with Slow
Keys or how to turn it off, the effect is that the keyboard becomes
unusable.

This is a grave usability issue for the entire system.

For those arriving here not knowing what to do: there is an
Accessibility icon on the task bar at the bottom of the screen. You
can use it to open an accessibility preferences dialog. Uncheck the Slow
Keys option.

[Bug 799338] Re: dunno

2011-06-19 Thread Brendan Donegan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 799379] [NEW] Monitor undected and screen resolution options missing

2011-06-19 Thread guiliker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Belinea 101728 monitor is not recognised and does not have full range of
screen resolution settings available as it does in WinXp. My preference
is for 1280x1024.

I have had this problem since first getting Feisty Fawn however, after a
long time with not using a computer and the internet I found my last
install of Karmic Koala to be out-of-date. I have done a fresh install
of Natty Narwhal and found a lower screen resolution setting in use and
Ubuntu has moved on and I don't know how to workaround it. I have not
been able to find out from searching on here and the ubuntu forums how
to workaround it or why the bug exists.

I would be happy to test any live CD's suggested/provide any extra
information. Incidentally if this is listed as the wrong package this is
because I ran the command ubuntu-bug -w and selected
PreferencesMonitors window.

[Bug 799382] [NEW] SendReceive should be seperate processes

2011-06-19 Thread frederik.nnaji
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

in Evolution Mail, SendReceive is one combined process, which is
confusing and makes sending email messages extremely slow.

Example:
jeremy composed a new email message to recepi...@domain.tld and presses send.
Evolution Mail stores the message in Outbox, instead of sending it.
Jeremy is surprised to see an unsent message in his outbox, so he hits the only
button in the main Evolution Mail UI that contains the word send, which
happens to be the SendReceive button in the main toolbar.
Now, upon invoking this process, evolution starts querying information in all
folders and subfolders it is configured to search via IMAP, instead of simply
sending the message. Jeremy is confused and hits cancel all, after he notices
that the unsent message in OUTBOX is nolonger there.

This situation is a classic in Evolution 2.32.2 on Ubuntu (Unity) 11.04

$ apt-cache policy evolution
evolution:
  Installed: 2.32.2-0ubuntu7
  Candidate: 2.32.2-0ubuntu7
  Version table:
 *** 2.32.2-0ubuntu7 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Instead, Send and Receive should be seperate processes.
Receive should be automatic, if the user configures it to be so upon initial
setup (firstrun wizard), otherwise there should be a button like check mail
or refresh.

Send should be restricted to the individual message. Bulk sending is
impractical, since we already have more obvious methods for this such as
CC or BCC.

For a while i saw a progress bar in Evolution within the Compose
Message window upon pressing send, that was reasonable and made a lot
of sense.

[Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-06-19 Thread Gilles Tournier
Hello James,

Thank you for the workaround you found. I confirm that this actually worked for
me too and that it did solve the problem !
The settings are being remembered across reboots when the proper keyboard is
selected at the GDM greeting (and this is only needed once).

I do agree with you that this is only a workaround; and that is does not
actually solve the bug...

But it is now clear that there is an interaction between the GDM greeter
and gnome-settings-daemon: GDM seems to superseed the settings saved
with gnome-settings-daemon for that user at startup and force it's own
settings for the session.

Now, should this bug be re-routed to the GDM team?

[Bug 799465] [NEW] Calendar applet shows a different date from `date` command.

2011-06-19 Thread DavidBriscoe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm using Unity.

If I click on the clock, it shows yesterday's date above the calendar,
but highlight's today's date in the calendar grid. I've also seen it
highlight the wrong date.

I can run date in a terminal and it shows the correct date. If I log
out and log back in, the calendar is now correct.

Generally, it looks like it's showing me the date of the last time I
looked at the calendar, but it might be the last time I logged in.

I got a mountpoint /homehdd that is used as a mountpoint for my partition on
the hdd.
I got a symbolic link of the Videos folder of my user redirected to this
position.

But now: whenever I delete a file in any of those folders, it cannot be
moved to trash but instead has to be deleted immediately.

How on earth can I get a trashcan on other partitions???
It IS working on USB devices, but why not here?

I consider this to be a bug.
More specific: it is a Nautilus bug to simply state cannot move to trash, do
you want to delete immediately? - I expect a REASON why it cannot be moved to
trash so I can DO something about it!

The lack of information is really a bug, in case anybody does not
consider the behavior of the trashcan to be a bug!

[Bug 799487] [NEW] Show copy dialog on wrong workspace and or doesn't show

2011-06-19 Thread Kristoffer Egil Bonarjee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Clicking on Show copy dialog in the Nautilus indicator doesn't bring
up the copy dialog on the current workspace if the dialog is minimized,
only if it's closed. It minimized, it will show on the workspace prior
to clicking minimize, instead of the current workspace. If it is behind
the current window, it will not display, only require attention it the
dock. You still need to click on the dock to make it show.

Thus, clicking the indicator doesn't accomplish anything that the dock
doesn't do already.

[Bug 799504] [NEW] playback of CD becomes impossible after pausing

2011-06-19 Thread bartje
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When pauzing an audio CD, I want to continue listening again, I press
the play button again, which causes the CD-rom to run, but playback is
not started. It is as if it keeps searching where it paused and doesn't
find it. I've checked and double checked with other apps, like Goobox
and banshee, and rhythmbox is the only one having trouble with CD's. So
i'm quite sure it's not the CD-ROM drive. I've got two, and tried on
both.

[Bug 724682] Re: gnome-terminal crash not reportable

2011-06-19 Thread miked
I have upgraded to Natty Narwhal Final so this bug could probably be
closed for me, but the bigger issue to me is not being able to send
these bug reports to you'all.

The ubuntu-bug via Alt+F2 does not seem to do anything:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/Old Crash files/Old
Unreported/_usr_bin_gnome-terminal.0.crash
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-terminal.0.crash
I had a copy in both locations when I ran these commands and got the same
problem can't be reported error message. See error message.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-06-19 Thread josechu
Same problem here, I have a Intel X3100 Graphics Card.

In this page:

http://ubuntuguide.net/ubuntu-11-04-upgrade-linux-kernel-to-2-6-39-0

They say that the linux kernel should be upgraded from 2.6.38-8 to
2.6.39.0 to solve the problem.

Is it advisable to make the upgrade?

Or is it better to wait for the automatic upgrade?

Thanks

[Bug 799601] [NEW] Can't see that a long-running large-data file copy is progressing

2011-06-19 Thread Stuart Langridge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If copying a large amount of data on a relatively slow network
connection, it's impossible to see whether the copy is actually working
or has frozen. For example, showing 17.2GB of 30GB copied (220k/sec),
estimated time remaining 18 hours. If that copy process freezes, or the
network drops out, it's almost impossible to tell that it's done so; the
17.2GB will eventually change to 17.3GB, but you have to watch the thing
for 5-10 minutes to see that change. The progress bar will not move for
the same amount of time, and that's even harder to detect a change in
anyway. The average transfer speed also doesn't help; if you've had a
long sustained transfer at 220k/sec (12 hours, say, so far) and the
current speed is actually 6k/sec, the average won't change fast enough
to be detected.

Note: this is not a call for some sort of fake progress indicator,
like a spinner, unless that spinner actually stops spinning if progress
stops. I had to resort to dropping to the terminal and ls -lRing the
copying files to see if the size of one of them was incrementing (which
is very hard, because you don't know which one is currently being copied
and it may be in a heavily nested subfolder).

One obvious but user-hostile fix would be to show an actual byte count
for amount copied (18253611008 bytes of 30GB copied) because you can see
that changing. Another might be to change the average speed counter to
much much more heavily weight recent changes to the speed, but it
wouldn't be visible that that was actually the case and so would only
help people who knew that nautilus did this. A third way might be to
have a details expander which shows the name and byte count of the
current file being copied (at which point this becomes fix 1, show the
byte count, but hidden behind an expander).

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
