[Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share
For what it's worth, I experienced this problem trying to set up a two- way share with a Windows 7 machine. I'm running Ubuntu Studio 10.04. I installed samba (via the Software Centre) and could see the machine in PlacesNetwork but all I could see when double clicking on the icon for the machine was ADMIN$ and C$. Double clicking on either of these brought up the password pop-up and the attendant problems above. To cut a longish story short, I went here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Samba/SambaClientGuide and found out that the standard 'Software Centre' install of samba (on my machine) did not include 'nautilus-share' (I had no trouble getting access to the machine from the Windows client). I installed nautilus- share and tried again. This time opening the machine on PlacesNetwork I could see ADMIN$, C$ and Users. Double clicking on the Users folder brings up the password pop-up which works fine - I have access to that directory and all its contents (even though some have the lock icon. Trying to open either of the other directories does not work, however (same problem). One quirk is that the pop-up comes up twice, even if you cancel. Hope this is of some use. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510059 Title: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/510059/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 758335] Re: gdm ignores keyboard input because Slow Keys was secretly turned on
In gdm, when you hold down the shift key for 8 seconds, Slow Keys gets turned on *silently*. In a user session, #41427 is a known issue that the pop-up notification about this sometimes is invisible because it is behind other windows, and that the default is to enable Slow Keys if there is no user action. But in gdm the situation is even worse - no pop-up or any other notification ever appears. To any user not already familiar with Slow Keys or how to turn it off, the effect is that the keyboard becomes unusable. This is a grave usability issue for the entire system. For those arriving here not knowing what to do: there is an Accessibility icon on the task bar at the bottom of the screen. You can use it to open an accessibility preferences dialog. Uncheck the Slow Keys option. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/758335 Title: gdm ignores keyboard input because Slow Keys was secretly turned on To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/758335/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 799382] [NEW] SendReceive should be seperate processes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution in Evolution Mail, SendReceive is one combined process, which is confusing and makes sending email messages extremely slow. Now, upon invoking this process, evolution starts querying information in all folders and subfolders it is configured to search via IMAP, instead of simply sending the message. Jeremy is confused and hits cancel all, after he notices that the unsent message in OUTBOX is nolonger there. [Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered
Hello James, Thank you for the workaround you found. I confirm that this actually worked for me too and that it did solve the problem ! The settings are being remembered across reboots when the proper keyboard is selected at the GDM greeting (and this is only needed once). I do agree with you that this is only a workaround; and that is does not actually solve the bug... But it is now clear that there is an interaction between the GDM greeter and gnome-settings-daemon: GDM seems to superseed the settings saved with gnome-settings-daemon for that user at startup and force it's own settings for the session. Now, should this bug be re-routed to the GDM team? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779509 Title: keyboard layout settings not remembered To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/779509/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 799474] [NEW] Trash can not working on different partition but root
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Because I have a fast, but small SSD, some of my user home files, like videos, reside on a secondary real harddisk. [Bug 799601] [NEW] Can't see that a long-running large-data file copy is progressing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus If copying a large amount of data on a relatively slow network connection, it's impossible to see whether the copy is actually working or has frozen. For example, showing 17.2GB of 30GB copied (220k/sec), estimated time remaining 18 hours. If that copy process freezes, or the network drops out, it's almost impossible to tell that it's done so; the 17.2GB will eventually change to 17.3GB, but you have to watch the thing for 5-10 minutes to see that change. The progress bar will not move for the same amount of time, and that's even harder to detect a change in anyway. The average transfer speed also doesn't help; if you've had a long sustained transfer at 220k/sec (12 hours, say, so far) and the current speed is actually 6k/sec, the average won't change fast enough to be detected. Note: this is not a call for some sort of fake progress indicator, like a spinner, unless that spinner actually stops spinning if progress stops. I had to resort to dropping to the terminal and ls -lRing the copying files to see if the size of one of them was incrementing (which is very hard, because you don't know which one is currently being copied and it may be in a heavily nested subfolder). One obvious but user-hostile fix would be to show an actual byte count for amount copied (18253611008 bytes of 30GB copied) because you can see that changing. Another might be to change the average speed counter to much much more heavily weight recent changes to the speed, but it wouldn't be visible that that was actually the case and so would only help people who knew that nautilus did this. A third way might be to have a details expander which shows the name and byte count of the current file being copied (at which point this becomes fix 1, show the byte count, but hidden behind an expander). ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799601 Title: Can't see that a long-running large-data file copy is progressing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/799601/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
