[Bug 801858] [NEW] high cpu loads on using security enabled USB drives

2011-06-25 Thread Alex Zaim
Public bug reported:

I have a JetFlash 620 8Gb Transcend drive. Whenever i insert it, the cpu load
gets very high. This problem persists in 10.10 and 11.04, but it does not
affect 10.04.

udiscs --monitor gives the following

where sdd is the user data partition, sr0 is a non-writeable partition
holding the security software.

Workaround: sudo stop udev lowers the CPU load. Seems to work fine
after that, but surely not an elegant move .

Additional info:
udisks version 1.0.2-4ubuntu1
udev version 167-0ubuntu3

Fix reported using sudo hal-disable-polling --device /dev/sr0

[Bug 772492] Re: [patch] gtkrc does not handle shade() in a locale safe manor

2011-06-25 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
This bug was fixed in the package gtk+2.0 - 2.24.5-0ubuntu1

gtk+2.0 (2.24.5-0ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * New upstream version
  * 010_make_bg_changes_queue_repaint: dropped, the fix is in the new version
  * include_m4_dir.patch: include the m4 directory from the previous version,
it's not shipped with the new tarball but required for the autoreconf run

** Changed in: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu)
Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released

** Description changed:

- Copy-paste from upstream bug:
- -*-*-*-*-*-
- When parsing gtkrc files, 'shade(0.5, #color)' is not parsed in a locale
- neutral way. In locales where a ',' is used to separate floating point numbers
- instead of '.', parsing just fails on shade() directives. Attached is a
minimal
- repro case, which produces the following output depending on the locale:
-
- ---
- $ gcc gtk_gdk_parsing.c `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-2.0`
- $ LC_NUMERIC=C ./a.out
- Parsed color: #101010101010
- $ LC_NUMERIC=ru_RU.utf8 ./a.out
- Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve
- property `GtkWidget::link-color' of type `GdkColor' from rc file value

- (a.out:17856): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_color_to_string: assertion `color != NULL'
- failed
- Parsed color: (null)
- -*-*-*-*-*-
-
- This causes Chromium to not displaying the theme-specific tabs decoration on
Ubuntu and Xubuntu.
- 2 patches are available in upstream report.
+ Test case:
+ 1. Launch Chromium in Xubuntu;
+ 2. Set locale to ru_RU.utf-8;
+ 3. Check if Chromium picks theme colours from Greybird and displays no
warnings in output.

[Bug 801542] Re: Left panel status should be saved between sessions

2011-06-25 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for your bug report and taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

I think the fact that the settings are document-specific is more of a feature
than a bug -- e.g. for some long document you may always want the table of
contents which would be silly for a two page document.
I think the correct way of doing what you want to achieve is: Close the
sidebar and chose Save current settings as default from the Edit menu --
does this work for you?

[Bug 801887] [NEW] Ocasionally cannot select files on desktop

2011-06-25 Thread OC
Public bug reported:

Sometimes, when I click on files on the desktop, they cannot be selected.
It is possible to select the file only when clicking in an area above some
(unpredictable) part of the file icon.

This is hard to describe so I taped a video of it (two files attached)
which I hope explains the problem well.

Since taping the video I have not been able to reproduce the problem,
even with the same exact two files at the same exact position.

Ubuntu 11.04 standard install (from scratch using ~/.* from 10.10
install), Desktop with default settings (Keep aligned selected).

[Bug 801542] Re: Left panel status should be saved between sessions

2011-06-25 Thread Mathieu D
I see. You are right, Ctrl+T do save the current settings (except for
the window size though).

I think this is not intuitive at all. Am I the only one to think so?

I'm wondering if the behaviour should not be the opposite: dont show the
panel by default. Or automatically display it only for documents with
more than N pages (and possibly a configuration setting for N).

Another question is, is PDF viewing an activity mostly done with
different files (in which case the settings should be global), or are
the files opened almost always the same (and then the current default is
probably right).

[Bug 801585] Re: evolution crash does not produce crash report

2011-06-25 Thread Kevin Turner
gconftool /apps/update-notifier/show_apport_crashes is now true,
/etc/default/apport has enabled=1, the service says it's started,
but the behaviour is unchanged.

I'd love to be able to submit useful crash reports because the crashing
is dumb. :-/

The patch works well.

But as the time of being, no patched source was uploaded the natty repository

nor the natty-update one (0.13.3-0ubuntu6) .

Looking forward to 0.13.3-0ubuntu7.

2011-06-25 Thread mauricep
I have exactly the same message on Mint 11. Gnome crashes and returns me
to the login screen. It seems to happen at random.

A discussion on the Ubuntu fora here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1757487 suggests that it might
have something to do with Chromium. Anyone here using another browser
but still getting this crash?

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2011-06-25 Thread Andy Eyre
This bug is still present in Natty. Sorry, I can't get LauchPad to add
natty/upower as a new target for this bug - maybe somebody more au fait
with launchpad can do that.

I have, however, examined tested my earlier patch (for upower on
10.10) against upower-0.9.9 that ships with Natty, and it checks out and
works fine.

Hence, I attach a .deb with the i386 binary of my patched upower, plus
the source.

If somebody wants to also compile for amd64 architecture and add to
their PPA (like they did with the earlier patch) to aid distribution,
then I'd be thankful - I don't have time for this.

I also see a lot of comments about upstream patches and the need to re-
enable the disabled code - this patch does exactly that - fixes the
broken estimation code and re-enables it. I don't have time to do it
myself, but if somebody wants to commit my patch back up to the ubuntu
upower project, then this bug would be fixed for everybody.

[Bug 802040] [NEW] Last.fm Not Scrobbling

2011-06-25 Thread Nattgew
Public bug reported:

I noticed that Rhythmbox is no longer submitting my tracks to Last.fm. I
checked the settings in gconf-editor and the command line seems to say nothing
relevant.
The plugin window for Last.fm used to show the username/password, and the
number sumbitted/queued tracks.
Now it just shows Last.fm/Libre.fm, and none of the other info.

[Bug 802066] [NEW] Opening remote (sftp) font file takes a very long time

2011-06-25 Thread Devius
Public bug reported:

On nautilus when clicking on a font file that resides on a remote sftp
server it takes a very long time for gnome-font-viewer to actually open
the file. So far I measured 11 minutes to open a 15,9Kb file. By copying
the file to the local filesystem and clicking it opens instantly. I
haven't tried other remote protocols. The remote server is running
openSUSE 11.3 on a ADSL connection with 768Kbit/s upload speed. Tried
with both ttf and otf files and makes no difference. I'm also seeing an
abnormal amount of network traffic in system monitor that is much
greater than the actual font file size. I've killed the gnome-font-
viewer process because I got tired of waiting after it had downloaded
60MB from the said server when trying to open a 195KB font file.

Steps to reproduce:
1. in nautilus open a remote connection to a SFTP server (preferably one with a
slow connection so the problem is more evident)
2. click on a font file to open it

Expected results:
The font file opens in the time it would take to download and open it

Actual results:
It takes a very long time to open the file and there is an abnormal amount of
network traffic not proportional to the file size

System is Ubuntu 11.04 with all the latest updates and gnome-control-
center 2.32.1

[Bug 773077] Re: Battery meter doesn't show on the panel bar on my edeubuntu v.7.04

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug, however, release 7.04
has been obsolete and unsupported for nearly three years. If this is an
issue in a supported release ( 10.04+ ), please update this report.
