[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2011-06-26 Thread felix.rommel
It seems the problem is gone in Natty Gnome Classic mode:

In Natty the Indicator Applet Complete is used. It says An applet to
hold all of the system indicators.

This applet is a container which holds other applets. The good thing is,
that the individual applets _cannot_ be moved but only the whole applet
container! With this applet container it seems that this applet solves
the problem with moving applets apparently around!

This nice Indicator Applet Complete is avalaible in Lucid LTS, too.
But I haven't tested it there.

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2011-06-26 Thread Geert Jan Alsem
felix.rommel, the problem is not gone in Natty. The problem is only a
bit less bad, because all the indicators are grouped in one applet. But
the order of different applets still gets messed up sometimes.

The problem should be gone in Oneiric Ocelot though, because of the
upgrade to GNOME 3. I haven't tested it myself, but in the changelogs
they say that in gnome-panel 3 all the old annoying bugs of gnome-panel
2 have been fixed.

JPi's solution doesn't work in my case. I had no use for the xsetwacom.sh

Setting it as an extended input device in gimp produces the problems described
by the original poster. And as mentionned, setting the mouse as an extended

[Bug 373477] Re: Can't save files to Samba (cifs) shares because they report 0 bytes free

2011-06-26 Thread zzarko
I have the exact same bug in 11.04. I have two computers at home, both
with Ubuntu, and one of them is booted to win from time to time. On the
first machine I have two samba shares, and on 10.10 I made mounts to
them using cifs. But, after update to 11.04, file transfer over this
mounts became too slow (~500 kilobytes/s), and I opted for gvfs
solution. But, gvfs access always reposts 0 bytes free, while cifs
reports actual bytes free. Now, I'm using 2 links to each share - one
with cifs (so, I can see the amount of free space), and one with gvfs
(so, I can copy at relatively decent speed, ~5 megabytes/s: with
maverick's cifs access I had ~10 megabytes/s). A bit stupid solution, I
know, but I have nothing better for now. From win os, everything works
as expected (it reports actual free space, and copy speed is ~10
megabytes/s). So, the problem is definitely in cifs (speed) and gvfs
(free space).

[Bug 802153] [NEW] old /wrong starting sektor on new harddrives with 4k

On a hard drive formated with the installer of ubuntu 11.04 the
allignment is done wright, the starting sektor is 2048, as it should be
on the new 4k hard drives.

Gparted does use starting sektor 2048 as well on standard settings.

The fix should be: change the starting sektor on a new partition to
2048.

[Bug 772709] Re: Network Manager Icon Is not changin when VPN is connected

2011-06-26 Thread Forest
I see this problem on a fresh install of xubuntu 11.04 (Natty) with an
openvpn connection. I normally use the Tango icon theme, but the
problem shows up with the GNOME and elementary icon themes as well.

I'm attaching screen shots illustrating the network manager tray icon
before, during, and after the vpn connection is established. Notice
that the lock emblem appears temporarily while the vpn is connecting but
then disappears, and that the plug-and-cable icon disappears while the
vpn is connecting but then reappears. (I wonder if the two icons might
be covering each other up.)

[Bug 666637] Re: Vorbis stream not seekable in Totem

2011-06-26 Thread Jani Uusitalo
I gave it a spin in Natty and yes, the issue is still there. Also, the
upstream bug I mentioned seems to be the right one for this, as the
discussion there also involves Jamendo's Ogg streams. I'll update this
one accordingly.

Intentional change, so marking Invalid. I guess the submitter has a
point - an advanced user can always tap in 'gnome-session-properties' on
the terminal and having 'Startup Applications' in the main menu is just
asking for a user to accidentally turn off some important daemon or
another.

[Bug 802256] [NEW] Facebook connection sometimes looses messages

2011-06-26 Thread Devius
Public bug reported:

When using a facebook account with empathy sometimes a message another
user sends me isn't received by empathy. If I go to the web based
facebook I can see the message there but not in empathy. This occurrence
seems to be random and I can't determine what causes the loss of some
messages. All my sent messages seem to be going to the other end, so
it's just receiving that fails.

[Bug 802276] [NEW] brightness adjust 3 steps from hard (Fn) keys

2011-06-26 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

the brightness adjusts in 3 steps, i thought it was annoying but
adjustable in gconf; finally investigated and saw it wasn't :]

if i echo 0 /sys/module/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled it
reduces one of the extra steps

if i killall gnome-power-manager i get no backlight adjustment, from my
understanding its solely responsible, but i can't find the extra
brightness event input, acpi_listen shows the video adjustment, as does
input-events 4 (the video device)

X opens the video event device as an input but i don't know if that
means g-p-m will see it as another event

hoping someone can tell me more about g-p-m and where it gathers events
so i can finish investigating, or solve the bug outright :]

[Bug 490238] Re: Video Player does not show any video, but has audio, if connected to an external monitor (dual monitor setup)

2011-06-26 Thread Petter Flensburg
Hi everyone! Just a thought here, but I remember having similar problems a
couple of years ago, both on windows and ubuntu, and if I remember correctly,
the screen that you want to play movies in needs to be the primary screen(ie,
set the external screen as primary, and your laptop screen in this case, to
secondary).
Or you can, as browman said above, choose to use mirror mode.

This is the same as in windows, so it's probably related to hardware
and/or graphics drivers.

I am not 100%, since it was a couple of years ago, but please go ahead
and test it!

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2011-06-26 Thread Andy Eyre
Hi Mohegan.

I too saw the double reporting of battery status, when I first installed
11.04. However, I saw it *before* I'd installed the patched upower, so I
don't think it's related to that (unless you tell me that you only had
one line *until* you installed the patch).

The thing is, the patch affects upower and the data that it reports --
but the icon belongs to gnome-power-manager, which reads the upower data
and draws the graphs and things -- and is nothing to do with upower per
se. Unless you can definitely identify the behaviour as coming from the
patched upower, I'd be tempted to file a new bug under gnome-power-
manager.

If it's any help, the double reporting seemed to go away for me as soon
as I installed all the latest package updates, though as I said, that
was before I'd installed the upower patch.

And another thing that might be helpful, please try playing the same
video with another movie player, VLC or whatever, to see if it behaves
the same way as totem, if it has the same behavior, if has the same
behavior, then we can rule out totem as the cause of it.

I too saw the double reporting of battery status, when I first installed
11.04. However, I saw it *before* I'd installed the patched upower

I confirm this behavior. Seems that it has nothing to do with proposed
patch.

[Bug 802218] Re: session-properties.desktop uses NoDisplay=true

2011-06-26 Thread Doug McMahon
Certainly I disagree - I'm somewhat an advanced user and I didn't know
the exact name of the Exec, obviously I knew enough to browse to
/usr/share/applications/ to start up and retrieve the exec name, ect.

Again here - on a fresh install I have 21 'startups', many that make no sense
running at start up, if ever.
Considering the continuing memory issues with compiz, nvidia drivers, ect. ALL
users should be able to see this config tool
(I save 100+MB at login by paring the list by disabling 11 'non-critical'
apps...

Now if they actually follow thru and allow disabling the 'non-critical'
apps thru g-c-c or similar fine, we'll see

[Bug 802305] [NEW] No sleep mode after fullscreen movie playback

2011-06-26 Thread Petter Flensburg
Public bug reported:

After a movie has finished playing in fullscreen, totem continues to
block the system from going into sleep mode. This is probably 'cause it
does not quit fullscreen mode after playback end. To ways to fix this:
either fix the fullscreen code, so that it stops stopping the system
from going into sleep mode when playback has stopped, or, like VLC -
quit fullscreen mode when playback ends, thus allowing system to go to
sleep.

It's my humble opinion that this is a serious flaw in totem - just think
of all that energy being consumed! The environmental impact of fixing
this bug enourmous.

I am using 10.04 and totem 2.30.2-0ubuntu1. I do not know if this has
been fixed in later releases of totem.

A VERY GOOD alternative for now, for me that is, is to use the
battery-status applet as indicator to get a proper read on what's going on
with my battery and on my cpu governor status...

maybe we could just merge that as a replacement?
