2011-07-07 Thread salva
The attached document triggers the bug from time to time, though I have
not been able to find a way to do it deterministically. Just moving
around and playing with the layout options (dual size, continuous, zoom,
etc.) will eventually make it happen.

[Bug 806855] [NEW] Default setting for 'Power button pressed' in Power applet set to 'Suspend'

2011-07-07 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

The system I'm reporting this from has an uber fresh install of Oneiric
Alpha2 on it, so no suspicion of settings getting changed here.

Basically pressing the power button now defaults to suspending the
system. This is very annoying especially on some netbooks with stupidly
placed power buttons which get pressed accidentally. The old default was
'Ask Me' and it should remain this way unless there is a good reason not
to (which I'd be glad to hear).

[Bug 806857] [NEW] Plymouth integration should use upstream “-background none” option

2011-07-07 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

When the plymouth integration patch for the X server went upstream the
option to enable the desired behaviour changed from “-nr” to
“-background none”. We currently carry a patch to the X server to re-
add the “-nr” option.

The *DMs should be updated to use “-background none” and then we can
drop that X server patch.

[Bug 523796] Re: Startup list does not save changes randomly

2011-07-07 Thread LANZen
I've found this issue occurs with Chromium when running 11.04 32-bit and
Classic desktop. You can add it to the startup applications and it may -
or may not survive a reboot.

Here's how I tested it. I opened the main menu applet, went to
Properties and copied over the working settings used to start Chromium.

I loaded these into the new launcher section of the Startup Application
applet. I closed the applet.

I opened the applet again and the Chromium launcher was still there.

I rebooted. Chromium would usually start. Subsequent reboots it would
not. And the launcher would vanish from the startup applications.

Additionally, Chromium would not respond to the request to become the
default browser when it asked on startup - but would if set in preferred
applications!

How can it be a permissions issue if it can survive one reboot but not
another?

2011-07-07 Thread Didier Roche
Hey dino99, seems that you can't have composited activated by default.

Can you try:
1. disable the nvidia driver in jockey if it's enabled
2. if it's already disabled, enable it
3. then, ensure you at least once disable/enable it in a row
4. reboot

Tell us if that fixes your lack of composited.

[Bug 806888] Re: can only login classic

2011-07-07 Thread dino99
hi Didier,

have followed post #2 above, hereis the results:

- can login without issue into: gnome, unity, classic*
- issue with unity-2d: immediatly after login validation, the window is
flashing about 5 seconds then get stable, desktop icons appears but no
dash/menu no unity icons at all, need to reset gnome-panel with a launcher
- looking at additional drivers: nvidia-current (275.09.07) is not activated as
before.

So unity-2d is broken

[Bug 806928] [NEW] gdm does not use alternate keyboard on login screen

2011-07-07 Thread Susan Cragin
Public bug reported:

I used the Dvorak keyboard for everything, including installing Ubuntu Oneiric
Studio. It is my only keyboard option.
Now gdm has changed and given me a login with only a QUERTY option.
The login screen used to have a drop-down box where users with an alternate
keyboard could change it back from QUERTY, but now that is gone.
If the decision has been made to make that removal permanent, then the login
screen should use the keyboard that the program was installed with.

2011-07-07 Thread andrea.reale
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 754569 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/754569

I think this bug is not exactly a duplicate of #754569. The latter, in
fact, refers to the ability of using 2-step authentication, this is
related to the ability to use the application-specific password feature
which is a fallback method to be used with legacy applications not
supporting 2-step authentication (such as empathy in this case)

[Bug 778414] Re: gimp crashes on starting (segfault) in Kubuntu Natty

2011-07-07 Thread cefk
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 742516 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742516

Since I got the same bug (Kubuntu 11.04 - fresh install - fully updated), but
solved it another way, here it is:
Got the segmentation fault error on starting gimp like this:
$ gimp

Then tried (I know .. though shalt never do that .. but I was curious):
$ sudo gimp
And that worked!

Did some research online and found, that for some people the problem
seemed to originate from the ~/.gimp-2.6 - folder, because it was either
missing or had the wrong permissions (root:root).

I found, that the only .gimp-2.6 - directory I had, was in
/root/.gimp-2.6 .

So I did:
$ sudo mv /root/.gimp-2.6 /home/MY_USERNAME/.gimp-2.6
$ sudo chown MY_USERNAME:MY_USERNAME/.gimp-2.6 -R

This solved the problem of gimp crashing, but I still get the following message
on starting gimp:
$ gimp

(gimp:3494): GLib-WARNING **:
/build/buildd/glib2.0-2.28.6/./glib/goption.c:2132: ignoring no-arg,
optional-arg or filename flags (8) on option of type 0
Failed to open file
'/usr/share/gnome-scan/icons/hicolor/scalable/actions/scan-as-layer.svg': Datei
oder Verzeichnis nicht gefundenFailed to open file
'/usr/share/gnome-scan/icons/hicolor/scalable/actions/scan.svg': Datei oder
Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

I guess that is fixable with changing to Raleigh, but I don't care to
find out, since I can at least use gimp now.

Hope that comment is useful to someone, since the bug still seems to be
alive and well.

[Bug 800561] Re: No way to add other keymap than english on Live CD

the bug is a bit weird, what locale do you select on boot? there should
be no keyboard indicator on a live session since there is only one
keyboard layout by default. trying on an alpha2 image the region capplet
lists layouts as it should, is that still an issue?

[Bug 806938] Re: segfaults when on processes tab pressing page down / page up continually

2011-07-07 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 279195] Re: OpenOffice.org uses DPI setting to determine page scaling and Gnome hardcodes DPI

2011-07-07 Thread Alexander Saltykov
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 157398 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157398

This is a bug, in fact.
I use 72 dots per inch resolution. So when I open a word/excel document in
OpenOffice it looks smaller than it should be than it should be. Everything
becomes unreadable at 100% zoom. Excel in Windows renders the document at 96
dots per inch. Ubuntu default resolution is 96 dots per inch. It means the
document will look different on various computers because of user settings.
So, for example someone set row height to 20 pixels in Excel using Windows. I
open the document, it calculates this 20 pixels to inches at 96 dpi, then it
renders it from inches to pixels at 72 dpi (which are taken from my settings),
so row height on my screen will be 15 pixels.

echo Xft.dpi: 72 | xrdb -merge
Open some document in OO. Close OO.
echo Xft.dpi: 96 | xrdb -merge
Open again, see the difference

[Bug 804545] Re: [Oneiric] gsd-segfault error 14 in libvorbisenc.so.2.0.8

2011-07-07 Thread Sam_
Thanks Sebastien, again, the crash happens on computer shutdown, so this
Perform any actions necessary to reproduce the crash means I would run gdb,
then shutdown the computer and after reboot retrieve a backtrace from a gdb
which isn't of course running anymore after reboot.
Never mind, g-s-d segfault doesn't interfere with Oneiric stability, if it
wasn't noticed in log file I wouldn't even know it happened.

No, it doesn't. Nothing happens.
Reading on some forums, it seems I'm not the only one seeing that, and that it
worked up to Maverick, but broke with Natty.

[Bug 784657] Re: Sun Java build 25 makes metacity crash

2011-07-07 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

happen, it happened every time but now, I cannot re-create the error

I guess it's good that it's fixed but I am curious as to how it got
fixed. I am almost sure that this was the only report on this issue,
however I guess someone managed to kill two birds with one stone, while
