[Bug 807870] [NEW] When copying, detect files with same content but different names

2011-07-09 Thread Phil-ganchev
Public bug reported:

When copying or moving files from one directory to another, it is very
often useful to know if there are identical files in the destination
directory, albeit under different names. This should not be done by
default, but using a paste special operation that could be placed as a
menu entry that opens a dialog with the check box Check for destination
files with identical content; later, other check boxes can be added.

If files with identical content are found, open a dialog letting the
user skip the file, rename the file, or cancel the whole copy operation.
This dialog would be similar to the Replace File dialog and maybe it can
be integrated with it.

[Bug 673140] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 loads previews for all files regardless of settings in Nautilus for previewed file size

2011-07-09 Thread Lukáš Chmela
Thanks for the response.

I have tried that with Ubuntu 11.04 (gvfsd-gphoto2 is no longer in the
repository nor installed?) and the problem persists.
It turned out that not only previews of image/video files stored in my camera
kept loading although size of those files is more than the limit selected in
Nautilus but that this problem concerns also local files. I was not able to
find any file on my HDD without a preview loaded immediately (when I set the
limit to 10MB in Nautilus) , neither image nor video. The only files that stood
without preview were TIFFs. Maybe this is a wider problem of Nautilus or the
file preview isn't even that hard to obtain?

I will change the pckage affected from gvfs to Nautilus.

[Bug 641641] Re: Lose netbook main menu if screen is repositioned

2011-07-09 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Natty is *much* worse for dual screens. Putting screens above each other
doesn't work at all for me (one of the screens gets garbled). Putting
them next to each other puts the Unity bar in the wrong place in both
cases, one slightly worse positioned than the other. Because of this it
is hard to see if this particular bug is replicated there.

2011-07-09 Thread Susan Cragin
this is especially frustrating because F2 doesn't seem to work on bootup, and I
can't get into the system at all. The boot menu never appears.
What happened to the idea of having the boot menu appear automatically in alpha

Re: [Bug 701999] I start AisleRiot with /usr/games/sol -v canfield but it loads Demon

2011-07-09 Thread Steve-shaughnessy
Hi

Yes, I'm using 11.04 now - clean install, not an upgrade. I'm not
using Unity though. Couldn't see any benefit and it seemed to slow
things down.

The bug is still there.

I set up a menu item with:
/usr/games/sol -v canfield

and it starts Demon, not Canfield.

However, another menu item set up as:
/usr/games/sol -v freecell

does load Freecell.

Weird??

Steve

[Bug 807967] [NEW] draging a file into nautilus window crashes nautilus

2011-07-09 Thread Carla Sella
Public bug reported:

While testing Oneiric Alpha2 image on my laptop (HP G62), during
testcase: External Expansion Port - USB ports I have encountered this
problem:

After having inserted a USB key, a natuilus window opens and the right icon
appears on the desktop, but when dragging a file into the window, nautilus
crashes.
The first time this happened apport tried to collect information but I had a
message sayng that I do not have a genuine ubuntu package (see attached image).
After the first time nautilus just crashes and apport does not start.
I checked the image md5sum (it's ok) and reinstalled the operating system, but
the problem remains.
I got the iso from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/oneiric/alpha-2 (64-bit

[Bug 673146] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 seems to not free up memory correctly after load

2011-07-09 Thread Lukáš Chmela
Thank you for your response.

I am no more able to reproduce this issue with Ubuntu 11.04 and latest
packages from natty-updates repository as it turned out that after
loading an image preview, it really does free the used memory up.

However, it keeps loading the last preview that it already started
loading even if the folder in Nautilus is no more opened or even if the
Nautilus window is already closed (see Bug #673137). After the last
preview is loaded, it frees up memory correctly and no more preview
loading is initialized, however, the last, already initialized, one
doesn't stop loading after I leave the folder. The same thing happens
with copying a file from the camera - gvfsd-gphoto2 loads it entire into
memory first, writes it into HDD once it is whole loaded in system
memory and ONLY AFTER it writes whole file onto HDD it frees all the
memory used (see Bug #673151).

The exactly same behavior is seen also on my Acer Aspire 8943G laptop.

[Bug 673140] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 loads previews for all files regardless of settings in Nautilus for previewed file size

2011-07-09 Thread Lukáš Chmela
Sorry for my mistake with the package name - I have gvfs version
1.8.0-0ubuntu2 from natty repository installed.

I also have to mention that Nautilus respects the settings for video
files - they are whole loaded into system memory by gvfsd-gphoto2
(uselessly) after what the memory is freed up with the only result that
Nautilus shows the default video icon (showing a cine-film) instead of
the file icon with clock signalizing that the preview is being loaded,
respecting the 100MB file limit for previews (!!). Trying that with a
3GB video file in my camera connected through USB, gvfsd-gphoto2 crashed
(?) after it loaded the video file into memory for the purpose of image
preview - I think so, because it was no longer listed in the process
list in system-monitor and the camera became unmounted in Nautilus.

Trying it with the same video stored already on my HDD, the default
video icon was displayed immediately without any use of system memory.
When I changed the file preview limit in Nautilus from 100MB to 4GB,
preview for the video file became available immediately (I only had to
move it to another folder as the preview for the original video file in
the concrete path was already fixed to be the default video icon - this
is probably another issue with Nautilus) and again, without any use of
memory - so even loading whole (video) files for the purpose of file
preview is useless and should never be done.

[Bug 673151] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 when downloading a file from camera loads entire file into memory first, doesn't write it onto hdd simultaneously

2011-07-09 Thread Lukáš Chmela
Thank you for your response.

I can confirm that this is still an issue with Ubuntu 11.04 using gvfs version
1.8.0-0ubuntu2 from the natty repository.
It is also reproducible on my Acer Aspire 8943G laptop which it slows down
quickly after all RAM is used although CPU (4 threads) is idle making that a
major usability issue for me (and I believe that not only for me).

I have tried it with one 3GB video file on both computers with exactly
the same result. During the copying, gvfsd-gphoto2 loaded the video file
into system memory by filling the RAM first, then writing to swap, after
it has been whole loaded in system memory, it started to writing it onto
HDD (this was the first moment after about 3 minutes of loading it into
memory first when the status bar in the Copying window moved from 0B
somewhere rightwards). All the memory used during the copying has been
freed up only after it had been completely written onto HDD. According
to system monitor, the gvfsd-gphoto2 listed in the Processes tab used
less and less memory with the time as it was being written onto HDD,
however, the History of use of memory and swap space graph in Sources
tab didn't show any difference and all the memory used (3GB) was in fact
freed short after the end of the copy operation.

[Bug 657859] Re: Windows shifted and non functional after monitor goes in standby

2011-07-09 Thread Esther Melander
My current release is Maverick Meerkat. I continue to have problems with
screen freezing, etc. I've had to disable all compiz special effects and
the screen saver. By doing so, I have no problems. There is some kind of
problem with the above video chipset and compiz/opengl but I don't know
what it is. As Maverick Meerkat is a long term release and Natty Narwhal
is unlikely to support my hardware either, I am inclined to not upgrade
as a solution to a problem which has existed off and on since Hardy
Heron.

in dmesg:

[ 3116.742160] Either the lower file is not in a valid eCryptfs format, or the

I have come to believe they are related(as they start at the same time,
30 seconds after booting)

There aren't any 0 byte files in ~/.Private/ though, as there is in most

I am unsure how to proceed.

[Bug 808106] [NEW] Shortcut for changing tabs should be Ctrl-PgDn/PgUp

Public bug reported:

Right now, the shortcut for changing tabs is Alt-number, where number
is the tab id, from left to right, so 1, 2 etc. But in several other
applications like Nautilus, Firefox, Chromium, gnome-terminal the
shortcut is Ctrl-PgDn (=select tab on the right) and Ctrl-PgUp (=select
tab on the left). This inconsitency is breaking the workflow.

[Bug 698186] Re: gnome-panel does not hide after full screen app

2011-07-09 Thread Prosper
Thanks for your time, but I am not currently running on Natty. This laptop is a
production-unit and I'm not quite certain it can handle unity :(
I was planning on upgrading to Natty on an other machine which is only used
occasionnaly, but it is currently unavailable and will remain so till early
september. If I come across any other PC I can still try...

[Bug 697797] Re: Close icon for active tab is larger and cut off

2011-07-09 Thread August Karlstrom
Actually, the button image is the same but it is cut off in different
ways: on the right side for an active tab and on all sides for an
inactive tab (making it look smaller). The problem is that the button
padding is too large and there seem to be no simple way to modify it, or
have I missed something? In my humble opinion tabs (notebook) with close
buttons should really be a standard feature in GTK but unfortunately it
isn't.
