[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2011-07-16 Thread UeB
It says in this thread that a fix was commited. I upraded to Ubuntu
11.04 using the classic gnome desktop and still my window borders in the
ambiance and radiance themes are only 1 pixel wide, so resizing windows
with the mouse alone is still a pain in the ass. I thought it was fixed
now. Is there still a problem on my pc do I have a wrong understanding
of what fixed means in this case. Any enlightenment is very
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 505085] Re: gnome-settings-daemon extensive disk usage

2011-07-16 Thread KennoVO
For anyone struggling with this problem and searching for workarounds, the
upstream discussion is a good read. Apparently, it is possible to entirely
disable the housekeeping mechanism that is responsible for this problem:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=625609#c6

Doing so will
(1) disable purging of old thumbnails, so one either has to live with the
thumbnail cache growing boundlessly, or implement a different workaround, such
as the one suggested by Eric Link
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/505085/comments/13
(2) disable the low disk space check and warning - if your disk is nearly full,
you'll have to keep an eye on it yourself
(3) possibly disable other housekeeping functionality - when experiencing
additional side effects, it might be a good idea to feed them back to the
community

Of course, this is still a (somewhat unsatisfactory) workaround, and
we're eagerly awaiting an actual fix from the upstream gnome-settings-
daemon maintenance team.

Re: [Bug 810065] Re: @#S* Characters are overlap with each other in Tamil Terminal

2011-07-16 Thread Anbarasan
Hello Pedro,

Unfortunately I see the problem again 11.04.

So the problem exists in Ubuntu 11.04. I do not why I did not see the
problem yesterday.

Attached is the screen shot (Picture1_New)

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04

I have attached some other details that may be relevant.

One more thing: The other bug: 810082. That problem is also seen. It is
related to asterisk character in Tamil GNOME terminal. So this bug is also
not resolved.

Kindly contact me if you need more details.

I like to take part in fixing this bug. I am a new person to bug reporting
and fixing. What are the things I should learn to contribute in fixing? Do
you have some webpage that explains to newbies? About me: I have some
programming experience in C, C++, PERL, TCL, Shell. Kindly advise.

Anbarasan

 Hi Pedro,

I tried Tamil GNOME Terminal and the problem I reported is not
reproducible. The special characters do not overlap each other in Ubuntu
11.04. You can close the bug. I have attached the screen shot (Picture1)
 confirming the same.

I reported another bug 810082. In that I mentioned about asterisk
character in GNOME Terminal. That problem does not appear in Ubuntu 11.04.
You can close that bug also.

The above two bugs are not seen with 'terminator'. See the attached
 picture (Picture2)

 Regards
 Anbarasan

 2011/7/15 Pedro Villavicencio pe...@ubuntu.com

could you please try the same on natty? and also see if that's
reproducible with 'terminator' the terminal emulator? That might be a
vte issue, there's a new version of it on natty that's why i'm asking
you to test with that one, thanks in advance.

[Bug 811602] [NEW] Nautilus crashes after cut and paste of more than one file.

2011-07-16 Thread Anbarasan
Public bug reported:

Nautilus crashes after cut and paste of more than one file.

I tried to cut and paste 2 files from a folder to another and the window closes
(crash).
I do not see the problem with when I cut and paste 1 file.
I have tried with 4 files and the problem is seen.
But the cut and paster operation is successful. That is after crash I open a
new window and see that files are successfully moved.

The problem is not seen when I copy and paste. (Instead of cut and
paste).

Hi,

Could you maybe try using the Guest Session feature and attempt to
reproduce the bug in there? Can you also confirm whether the crash
happens when copying files only within your HOME directory?

Lastly, please attach the output of 'sudo parted -l'

Thanks,

[Bug 811672] [NEW] nautilus use the wrong broadcast address to search for smb servers

2011-07-16 Thread Matthieu Patou
Public bug reported:

My computer is moving between two LANs with both server exporting
SMB/CIFS shares.

Last time I booted and logged on my computer it was in LAN 10.6.0.0/26.

Today I tried to use nautilus to browse share in the 192.168.10.0/24 lan
and it failed to show my samba server at 192.168.10.222.

Tracing while clicking in Windows Network icon in nautilus produced
this trace:

[Bug 787475] Re: Rhythmbox [0.12.8] [0.12.5] Not Fetching Album Information From MusicBrainz

2011-07-16 Thread William Fulton
I have the same problem with sound-juicer and Rhythmbox on Lucid Lynx.
Sound juicer works for me now having installed the rebuilt packages
against libmusicbrainz3.so.6 as described in bug 455461 -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sound-juicer/+bug/455461. Is
there any reason why the same cannot be done for Rhythmbox? Fixing this
kind of thing really ought to be a high priority for an Ubuntu long term
release.

Are you running unity-window-decorator?

ps aux | grep unity-window-decorator

IT could also be that you have those themes installed locally and they
are conflicting with the themes that specify the new borders.

  *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

  https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-
  dx-n-resizing-windows

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this during
the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs.
2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow resize
 on all sides.

  *

Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa :
  https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtk

  *

  Workaround:  Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-
theme-1.xml.  Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as
  desired:

  distance name=left_width value=3/
  distance name=right_width value=3/
  distance name=bottom_height value=3/

  Binary package hint: metacity

  - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens
for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted
by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in
Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel

The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for
comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in
all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have
open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The
result is that I get a lot of misses when I try to drag a window
border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window
altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an
invisible region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick
that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or
perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System
Preferences Windows dialog (although the default thickness should
still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have
a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application
controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity
  team).

Hi Brendan,

1. I used the command guest-session to login as guest. In guest account also

2. I tried copying files from /tmp to /home/anbarasan/ and the files copied

cut paste operation is not successful. (When I cut and paste within home

 Hi,

Could you maybe try using the Guest Session feature and attempt to
reproduce the bug in there? Can you also confirm whether the crash
happens when copying files only within your HOME directory?

Lastly, please attach the output of 'sudo parted -l'

rather than 725584. I have same issues on VirtualBox 4.012 with Natty guest.
After reading through all of 649809 I've found that if I set gdm to autologin
everything works. With default manual login (Ubuntu Classic / Gnome) I
experience the gnome-settings-daemon issue.

I should add that the autologin trick only works for the first login. If
you log out of the session and back in the original issue occurs and
then you need to apply #6 again.
