[Bug 894665] [NEW] Characters in terminal (; ~5) when Ctrl+PgUp/Dn when no other tabs present

2011-11-25 Thread mydoghasworms
Public bug reported:

When you have a terminal window open with a single tab, the keys for
switching tabs (Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn) produce characters in the terminal;
specifically Ctrl+PgDn produces ;5~ and Ctrl+PgUp produces 5~.

[Bug 34629] Re: Left-click clears PRIMARY buffer selection (Copy-paste with middle-button/mouse wheel fails)

2011-11-25 Thread MestreLion
I have this bug too (on Maverick)

My 2 cents:
- gedit clears the primary *only* if the selection was made on gedit itself!
(yes, this seems absurd, i know)

Steps to reproduce:

- Select something in Firefox (double or triple click this very line). Alt+Tab
to gedit. Middle-click. Pastes fine
- Left click another part of the text in gedit. Middle-click. Pastes fine

- Select something in gedit (double or triple click) Alt+Tab to firefox.
Middle-click. Pastes fine
- Alt+Tab back to gedit. Middle-click anywhere (without left-clicking!). Pastes
fine

- Left click another part of the text in gedit. Middle-click. PASTE FAILS
- Alt+tab to firefox. Middle-click. PASTE FAILS

- Select something in Firefox (double or triple click this very line). Alt+Tab
to gedit.
- Use keyboard arrow keys to move cursor somewhere else. Middle-click. Pastes
fine

- Select something in gedit. Use keyboard arrow keys to move cursor somewhere
else. Middle-click. PASTE FAILS
(fails also if you use CTRL+Z or any key that moves the text cursor to another
place)

So it looks like the primary is cleared if text cursor in gedit moves
(by left-click or arrow keys or any other way) and the selection was
made in gedit itself.

Is this behavior the same bug or another, new one?

[Bug 878671] Re: progressing thru files, it does not seem to sort correctly

2011-11-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 753820] Re: Disconnected __ no reason specified when loggin into GTalk/Jabber account

2011-11-25 Thread Andreas Büsching
This affects me too currently. I've updated my system to 11.04 several
weeks ago. After that I had no problems with Jabber. The problems
started a few days ago.

I've tried empathy (3.2.0.1-0ubuntu1.1) and pidgin (1:2.10.0-0ubuntu2).
Both with the same error.

I've activated the oneiric-proposed repository on my system.

[Bug 894737] [NEW] Unable to add timezones in time and date settings

2011-11-25 Thread Martin Mrazik
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:

1. start gnome-control-center
2. choose Time Date
3. choose Clock and Choose Locations...
4. Click on a big green + sign

Actual result:
You are prompted to type something in. There are two problems with this:
1. It is not clear what should I type in
2. UTC is already there so I tried to type something like PST (Pacific Standard
Time) or CET (Central European Time) but it doesn't work

All I end up with is an additional, empty row.

Expected result:
Either some dialog appears where I can choose a timezone or I'm allowed to type
actually something into the row. See also the screenshot with the dialog and
with the empty row. There was no error dialog presented to the user that there
is something wrong with the input.

[Bug 379599] Re: System shutdown on 0% for 1 of 2 batteries.

2011-11-25 Thread MNLipp
I'm still seeing this with my HP 6730b and 11.10. The laptop has an additional
removable battery. When I issue
 cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state

I get

 present: no

So it shouldn't be a problem to simply leave that one out when making
descisions concerning the battery state.

When I suspend my laptop, unplug the power and then resume again, it
will in about one of two cases shutdown because of low battery, although
the built-in battery is almost at 100% (obviously).

If I remember right, that behaviour started with Natty. Maverick was
still OK.

[Bug 894504] Re: Crash to desktop, memory access error

2011-11-25 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 887660] Re: Evolution keeps asking for my Google Calendar account passwords

2011-11-25 Thread Mark Bratcher
I switched to the Gnome desktop and tried again. This time, no problem.
Switched back to Ubuntu (with Google calendar still synced with Ubuntu)
and no problem. So I'm not sure whether (a) setting it up in Gnome first
fixed it, (b) the problem was fixed via some surreptitious update, or
(c) there was some other fluky behavior in the sequence of setup that
made it happen. Regardless, for now, the annoying login prompts have
disappeared.

[Bug 894773] [NEW] totem messes up dual screen setup

2011-11-25 Thread John Gill
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 with an Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS graphics card.
I'm using the proprietary Nvidia driver 280.13

I'm running in Twinview mode, with a 1280x1024 flat panel and a 1280x800
laptop screen to the right.

When I start up totem it messes up this set up. I end up unable to get
to the bottom 2024 pixels on the flat panel and unable to move to the
laptop screen.

Firing up Nvidia settings daemon and disabling the flat panel, then re-
enabling usually solves the problem.

Note this problem is not new in 11.10, it has been there for several
releases.

[Bug 891026] [NEW] PDF printing from Evince through CUPS is very slow, sometimes fails

2011-11-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When printing a PDF document from Evince using a CUPS defined printer,
printing the document takes very long (up to 30 minutes). The
ghostscript process runs at 100% CPUTIME.

Here is the captures ghostscript command of one of the print test :

gs -dFirstPage=1 -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=pxlmono
-r600x600 -sPAPERSIZE=a4 -sOutputFile=- /var/spool/cups/tmp/foomatic-
AA6FvH

This is the only evidence that ghostscript is responsible for the
problem. Backporting the cups-1.4.5.3 would remove gs out of the
equation, hopefully fixing the problem.

Reproducible: 100%

Workaround:

Use the acroread PDF viewer which does not show this problem

Request:

PDF conversions using ghostscripts have been identified by previous bugs
(LP#668800 ) and have been fixed in cups 1.4.5.3 by using poppler
instead of ghostscript. We believe that a backport of the solution
already present in Maverick/Natty to Lucid might solve the problem

[Bug 398923] Re: Disable Connect to localhost in Vinagre

2011-11-25 Thread Chris Weiss
disabling localhost would also disable ssh tunnels, which would make
vinagre completely useless for those that admin remote systems. This
could be overriden with the use host option, as long as it remains
fixed (it has been broken in the last 2 releases).

if it's possible to detect when the remote connect is to itself, this
would fix the problem properly, but that would be have to be part of
the vnc protocol itself.

[Bug 891026] Re: PDF printing from Evince through CUPS is very slow, sometimes fails

2011-11-25 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have tried to backport the patches of bug 680628. The patch on Poppler
applies and so the backport would most probably work, but the patch on
Cairo does not work. The part where the patch has to be applied seems to
be completely rearchitectured and and also a backport of the whole Cairo
package from Natty was not possible as the Natty package needs a lot of
newer libraries and so the backport attempt could lead to major parts of
Lucid being replaced by Natty ...

If I try to build the Cairo package of Natty on Lucid I get:

dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: dh-autoreconf libxrender-
dev (= 1:0.9.5-2) libx11-dev (= 2:1.3.3-2) libpixman-1-dev (= 0.18.4)

dh-autoreconf is a new concept introduced after Lucid, the other
versioned dependencies are most probably new libraries with new APIs.

As the real fix would be to somehow introduce the Cairo and Poppler
fixes of bug 680628 into Lucid, I move this bug to Cairo and Poppler.
Perhaps someone more expert in Cairo can solve the problem.

Hi Wolfgang. If I understand you correctly, the problem is that the DVD
doesn't play, and you don't get an understandable error message either.
It's technically true that the DVD is encrypted, but you don't care
about that. Therefore, this is a duplicate of bug 219062, that the error
message is not helpful.

If I didn't understand correctly, please reopen this bug report. Thanks.

[Bug 577545] Re: gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256 on log in

2011-11-25 Thread derekshaw
This occurred to me after
1 dist upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04
2 apt-get clean
3 apt-get autoclean
4 some other cleanup involving booting up with a rescue CD, (and, critically,
cleaning the /tmp directory) in order to tar up the image for future deployment
in the field (20 laptops).

unable to log in to gdm, with the subject error present
used virt terminal 1 to log in

There was no directory /usr/local/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults, as
described in #16, adding this did not change the boot results.

checked the perms of /tmp, they were incorrect (v several working lucid
systems). Changed them to , and now the system reaches the gdm
login screen with no errors (and I can log in)

reversing the change from #16 (rm -rf /usr/local/etc/gconf) resulted in
the boot sequence stopping at the terminal screen (virt terminal 1) --
that is, no gdm login screen at all.

re-creating /usr/local/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults allows normal
booting.

so it seems both are necessary sometimes.

[Bug 792188] Re: netttool no detect wlan

2011-11-25 Thread Matt Fischer
mr Ed:

Thanks for reporting this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Can you
provide a few more details here that will help us understand this
better?

What version of Ubuntu are you using?

What version of gnome-nettool do you have installed (run apt-cache
policy gnome-nettool and paste it here).

Finally, I'd like to clarify what you are saying. In the devices pane
in gnome-nettool, when you turn wlan on and off using the keyboard, the
devices pane doesn't refresh that information. Is that correct?

[Bug 219062] Re: Playing CSS-Protected Video DVD in Totem results in error: An Error Occurred - Could not read from resource

2011-11-25 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
(I have marked as duplicates bug 782411, bug 854390, and bug 892731,
which report the error message Could not read DVD. This may be because
the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed. I
assume this is the same bug, and that gstreamer slightly improved its
error message some time after bug 748449 (another duplicate). If I'm
wrong and these are not the same bug, please unmark those three
duplicates and mark two of them as duplicates of the other.)
