Re: [Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

Maybe the best would be a configurable size for the hidden grab area :)
Currently it's difficult to change, how I seen the size is hardcoded
into the theme right?

[Bug 907644] Re: Audio stops working on repeated play of MKV file

2011-12-21 Thread Jani Uusitalo
I should supplement "add another MKV file to the playlist and there's no
problem" with that the second file could also be the same file, so that
the playlist is comprised of two instances of the same file. This way it
works audiowise the way it should even with the file there just once, so
it's an effective, albeit silly workaround.

[Bug 907644] [NEW] Audio stops working on repeated play of MKV file

2011-12-21 Thread Jani Uusitalo
Public bug reported:

With just one file on the playlist and looped (with repeat mode on), at
about 0:24 during the second play the audio goes mute and doesn't
recover by itself. Restarting the video by double-clicking on the
playlist item makes the audio come back.

The funny thing is, if you add another MKV file to the playlist and let
it loop between the two files, there's no problem. But with the single
file repeating it looks to be 100% reproducible.

Doesn't seem to be reproducible using MP4 or AVI files, just MKV. Not
reproducible with VLC. I've thus far found at least two MKV files [1],
[2] that reproduce this 100 %. IIRC, the issue didn't occur with these
same files back in Lucid.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download one of the aforementioned MKV files.
2. Load it in Totem.
3. Set 'Repeat Mode' on.
4. Play the file, wait for it to loop.

What happens:
At about 0:24 during the second play the audio goes mute.

What I expect to happen:
The audio to continue playing normally during the second and subsequent loops
also.

[Bug 826089] Re: gnome-shell writes to ~/.gconf/apps/metacity/general & affects Workspaces shown in unity-2d

2011-12-21 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I can confirm this is still an issue on Precise Alpha 1. The workaround
is to first log into a GNOME Shell session, have 4 workspaces open in
the workspace switcher, then log out and select Ubuntu 2D from the
LightDM session menu. (Of course, if fewer workspaces are desired, you
can also open fewer workspaces in GNOME Shell using this method. I don't
know what would happen if 5 or more workspaces were opened since I
didn't try that yet.)

Alienware m15x, 1900 * 1200. If I hit the grab area first time using
the touchpad it's a fluke. If I hit it with the trackball, it's only
with a degree of concentration. Same laptop, same trackball and
touchpad, Windows at the same rez - no problem.

Been complaining about this for getting one for 2 years and it
actually got resolved. Then Oneric came out and it was back to square
one.

[Bug 907570] [NEW] evince reloads file every 20 seconds, if opened by http

2011-12-21 Thread g00fy
Public bug reported:

If I open the following PDF in evince (directly per http, without downloading
it), then evince reloads the file approximatly every 5 - 20 seconds:
http://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/product-brief/h67-express-chipset-2nd-gen-core-brief.pdf

This bug isn't that critical, because, if someone really wants to read a
file, he could download it. But this is one of the little bugs in a
system, that drives users crazy.

[Bug 280798] Re: gnome-display-properties dont allow me rotate screen rigth and left but xrandr works fine

2011-12-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
Could someone test if this is still an issue with Ubuntu natty? I
suspect the issue is gone now.

If you don't want to install Ubuntu Precise, it should be sufficient to
boot a Live USB session, configure the monitors, and see if it is
working properly now. You can get the current Live USB desktop image at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and create a USB boot
drive using usb-creator.

[Bug 351491] Re: Display preferences should be discoverable via the "Change desktop background" window

2011-12-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
Primary monitor support has improved, both in gnome-panel and in unity,
and it can now be configured in the gnome-display-properties applet,
which should take care of the underlying issues described here.

The issue of having the applet functionality available from the desktop
context menu seems to have improved. When you launch the background
settings dialog there is now a 'All Settings' button on the top, which
takes you to a page of multiple configuration utilities including the
one for 'Displays'.

So I think this can be closed. A lot has changed with the introduction
of Unity though, so it's worth re-examining this workflow again in light
of that and filing new bugs (against unity) if there are still issues.

[Bug 692039] Re: New memory function not clear

2011-12-21 Thread Joe Hurr
Okay, I'm now running Ubuntu 11.10 and Gcalctool 6.2.0 (on three
different machines) and it still has no visible memory function.

Seriously, is no one else really bothered by this?!? I think there must
be something wrong with me... but this is pretty much the most important
feature of a calculator for me (after +, -, * and /).

If this isn't being worked on, does Gnome need a new default calculator?
This is just embarrassing!

I'm not a programmer, but if there's anything I can do to help please
let me know!

Title:
  Brasero Will Not Reliabily Burn Data Disks

Status in “brasero” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 11.10 Gnome Classic.   Tried to burn audio files as mp3 to a
  blank cd and dvd.   I could get some regular mp3's to burn but can not
  add other ones after.   Mp4 files would not burn at all.  Then tried
  just a data disk with jpg files and could get it to burn but again
  could not add new files after the first burn and  the allow files to
  be added box was checked on the first burn so it should be able.
  Put a couple jpg files on a cd-rw for a test and it was ok, went to
  add another file and it started writing but at end said there was an
  error and had to eject cd manually.  Reinserted cd and it can not now
  be recognized at all, can not be blanked.  Its like the cd does not
  exist.   Works fine if you put everything you want on the disk and do
  not try to add anything else,  trying to add extra files makes the
  cd/dvd useless.   And mp4 audio data files will not burn,  error at
  end of burn, same sort of thing when trying to add files to the data
  cd/dvd.    DVD operates normally other than above,  loaded Ubuntu
  operation system with it and  loaded music and picture files saved on
  a data disk using Windows.  All audio files were purchased on line.

This issue has been dragging on for so long I've grown tired of it.

Have you ever tried using a touchpad to resize a window with a default
Ubuntu 11.10 installation on a laptop with a high resolution screen?
I've given up on it on Ubuntu 10.04 and have gotten used to Alt - Right
Click to resize windows until I have time to write a program that can
read my mind as I don't think this will ever be fixed on Ubuntu 10.04.

I can't use Ubuntu 11.10 as yet as Unity is buggy and even if it would
not be buggy it still is a much lesser fit to my needs than Gnome 2. I
might be forced to stay with Ubuntu 10.04 for a few more years as I
think Unity need a lot more work before it's usable for anything more
than occasional desktop work. Fortunately support for 10.04 has been
extended - I assume for obvious reasons?

The point many people are trying to make is that resizing windows needs
to be intuitive.
Dare I say that something that is intuitive should no more depend on the
selected theme as it would on the selected background image?

It has been intuitive on Windows since 3 (can't remember Windows <3
sorry :-P), as well as on any incarnation of Mac OS but somehow we seem
to continue to have to debate and explain something that I would
consider really really obvious.

Perhaps the developers should simply use a laptop with a touchpad and
high resolution screen and see if they can resize windows without
inflicting RSI on themselves. If they can't, it's not fixed, no matter
what technical arguments are put forward.

regards,
Jan

[Bug 855917] Re: empathy does not recognize settings from "online accounts"

2011-12-21 Thread Brian Murray
One way to check whether or not it may be fixed in Oneiric is by looking
at the changelog for empathy via 'apt-get changelog empathy'. There was
an upstream release pulled on 17 Oct 2011 but its not clear to me if
that really contains the fix for the upstream bug or not.

[Bug 94969] Re: Rhythmbox daap shares are listing playlists only in alphabetical order

2011-12-21 Thread Alex Moldovan
The playlists shared through Rhythmbox DAAP server are not listed in the
original sequential order they were originally created. Instead they are
displayed in alphabetical oder by Artist. The whole point of having a
playlist is that you can play it the original sequential order it was
created. As an option you can play it shuffled.

Re: [Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2011-12-21 Thread u-foka
Hy!

I'm a little bit afraid of a larger resize area.. If I click 10px far
from a window, I probably want to raise the window below. 5-6px is ok,
but more is risky, especially because that area is invisible.

@Bobik-s and others experiencing this problem-

For reference, the bug noted in the bug report title is actually a
duplicate of bug 872652 (and glad to hear that 3.0.0-15 fixes it for
you, Bobik-s).

I have prepared a PPA test kernel for Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) including a
patch which might address the remaining "min/max on every step" problem:

Feedback to this bug report will be appreciated.

Indeed, WinXP had 5px draggable areas - but WinXP is 10 years old now and
it might not be the most suitable point of reference for modern design
topics. The draggable area was increased in Vista (same as Win7) and I
think I recall a msdn blog mentioning this was based on usability tests
(but it's been half a decade since then and my google-fu is letting me
down, so don't quote me on that).

In any case, the drag area is invisible in Unity, so a potential size
increase should be a relatively safe change.

These are indeed fantastic, maybe they merit more attention than currently
given. (I love them on my laptop, but I cannot find a way to use them on my
desktop).

[Bug 885959] Re: The URI ‘ghelp:user-guide?gospanel-28#gospanel-28’ does not point to a valid page.

2011-12-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

- Recommend gnome-session-fallback
- Break libpanel-applet2-0, libpanel-applet-3-0, and python-gnomeapplet
- Drop python and python-gconf recommends
- Use epoch in breaks/replaces version
  * debian/rules:
- Update translations template.
  * debian/patches/01_panel_submenus.patch: Dropped, Debian-specific
  * debian/patches/12_panel_icon_size_fixes.patch: Dropped, upstream
  * debian/patches/13_disable_missing_help.patch:
- Disable help buttons since the user guide no longer includes that
  content (LP: #846470, #885959)
  * debian/patches/40_unset_menuproxy.patch:
- Make sure gnome-panel and the applets don't pick up menu proxies.
  * debian/patches/85_disable_shutdown_on_ltsp.patch:
- Suppress the shutdown option in the panel if LTSP_CLIENT is set.
  * debian/watch: Watch for unstable releases

gnome-panel (3.2.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/12_panel_icon_size_fixes.patch:
- Fix icon sizes for application launchers and user menu. Closes: #651336
  Patch cherry-picked from upstream Git.
  * debian/control.in:
- Change section of gir1.2-panelapplet-4.0 to introspection.

gnome-panel (3.2.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * debian/control.in:
- Update Build-Depends on libgnome-menu-dev to libgnome-menu-3-dev
  (>= 3.1.4).
  * debian/libpanel-applet-4-dev.install:
- Stop installing static .a archives, no longer built by default.
  * debian/patches/09_default_icons.patch:
- Removed, it no longer applies. The patch relied on a icon shipped by the
  Humanity icon theme, so was not really that useful for Debian anyway.
