[Bug 917165] Re: gnome-control-center does not allow selection of USB headset for input or output

2012-01-17 Thread James Hunt
Hmm after a reboot, the problem appears to have gone away. My selected
h/w profile is Analogue Stereo Output + Analogue Mono Input (which has
not changed).

There are a couple of extra odd things going on here:

1) if I change the h/w profile for the headset to Analogue Stereo
Output and switch to the Output tab, the selected device is Internal
Audio Analogue Stereo (!), and yet the sound is still coming out of my
headset! And no sound is emitted by my internal speakers or via the
headphone socket. Additionally, I now have no control over the volume:
changing the sliders does nothing.

2) Selecting Analogue Mono Output for the headset device degrades the
sound quality significantly (I can hear a lot of crackling mixed in with
the sound).

It's not a good idea to alphabetically sort folders and bookmarks as one group

[Bug 907275] [NEW] Gnome Save as dialog bug

2012-01-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

OO 64 bits on EEEPC 1015PX

Tested on thunderbird, firefox, evince

On evince : File-Save a copy

Select Documents in the left shortcuts area.
Then double click on a listed directory (it does not matter which one).
Select back the Documents directory by clicking on the corresponding button
on the top directory navigation bar (at the right of Save in the directory :
or something like that since my language is French)
Then click on the bottom right Save button.

Expected behavior : saving the file in the Documents directory.
Observed behavior : Changes the directory to the one previously selected in
Documents.

I suppose this is a bug and not a feature. Isn't it ?

[Bug 723862] Re: Nautilus quicklist does not contain the locations previously found under the 'Places' menu.

2012-01-17 Thread Didier Roche
Indeed, I agree with you. However, it seems there is no easy way to get
that list of bookmarks sorted as you say here (we don't have the
information in the same order and I don't want to rely on a nautilus
window to be opened to get that list). Patches to fix it are more than
welcome there :)

[Bug 723862] Re: Nautilus quicklist does not contain the locations previously found under the 'Places' menu.

2012-01-17 Thread Bowmore
Ok, I see.

Anyhow, one approach could be to use the output from command ls below
cd ~
ls -d */
which lists ALL not hidden user top folders.

Another approach is to extract the default top folders from the file
~/.config/user-dirs.dirs and adding the home folder.

From that those top folders can be removed from the bookmark list in
the quicklist.

The second approach is more in line with Nautilus computer folder list
content.

[Bug 876522] Re: black screen when dim screen to save power

2012-01-17 Thread David Duffey
Thanks Walter,

I removed gnome-screensaver and installed xscreensaver and the screen
still dims w/o being able to wake it up.

In particular, I tested by:

1. apt-get update/upgrade, replacing gnone-screensave w/ xscreensaver
2. Logout (to LDM)
3. Wait some amount of time
4. Screen dims
5. No keys (including brightness keys) will wake up the display
6. Blindly type in my password
7. Once logged in, brightness keys work

David

[Bug 917666] [NEW] evince: 'Open a copy' ignores saved settings

2012-01-17 Thread Martin Konopka
Public bug reported:

1.) I open a PDF document.
2.) I set my preferred view mode for it.
3.) I click on Save current settings as default
4.) I open a copy of the document (by clicking on the Open a Copy item).

5.) The copy is opened. Unfortunately, my preferred and saved setting
have been ignored by evince and the document is displayed in a default
(for me a quite odd) way.

Some details: my preferred display regime is to utilise the PRECIOUS
VERTICAL SPACE as much effectively as possible for the document CONTENT.
I.e.:

I turn off all toolbars. Only the bar with File, Edit, etc is shown.
I use the Best Fit mode.
I turn OFF the Continuous mode.
In additions I turn off also the side bar.
In 90% of situations I do not need sidebar and I always prefer keyboard over
mouse.

[Bug 723862] Re: Nautilus quicklist does not contain the locations previously found under the 'Places' menu.

2012-01-17 Thread Bowmore
I prefixed the bookmarks from the top folders with | without quotes
as a wotkaround. This will list top folder (Desktop, Documents,
Downloads, Music etc) first and remaining bookmarks last in the
quicklist. I think this is the preferred way as top folder are few (at
least if only default folders are listed) and bookmarks can be numerous.

[Bug 723862] Re: Nautilus quicklist does not contain the locations previously found under the 'Places' menu.

2012-01-17 Thread Doug McMahon
Maybe I need to do a fresh install to check but there appears to be a downside
here -
All quicklists are now opening in the same browser window when previously thru
a custom nautilus-home.desktop, quicklists would open in a new window

Additionally if one moves to another workspace again the current
quicklists open in the previous window, not on the current workspace. So
now users must first open a new Home folder window to get to a new
quicklist location in a new window??

[Bug 723862] Re: Nautilus quicklist does not contain the locations previously found under the 'Places' menu.

2012-01-17 Thread psypher
There are some other inconsistencies as well.

1. If nautilus is open in the background behind another app, clicking a
QLBM (quicklist bookmark) opens and browses to that bookmark in the
background nautilus but does not bring the window to the foreground.
This is intermittent, sometimes the window is brought to foreground,
sometimes not. Sometimes it happens when nautilus is already open.
Sometimes it browses to the folder, sometimes it opens a whole new
window and browses to it. really struggling to consistently reproduce,
seems to happen at random.

2. With an open nautilus window, in foreground when you try clicking the
home folder QLBM, nothing happens. But then trying to click any other
QLBM after that suddenly a new nautilus window opens focusing on home
folder. Do the same for when nautilus is in the background, it just
brings the window to the foreground but does not open home folder.

3. Sometimes the QLBM's don't work at all and causes a nautilus crash.
Click bookmark and nothing happens, click another bookmark nothing
happens. Click home folder QLBM or just the home folder icon in launcher
and then it opens, or nothing will happen for a second and then nautilus
crashes. This too is intermittent, struggling to reproduce consistently.

Will play around some more and report back tomorrow

[Bug 723862] Re: Nautilus quicklist does not contain the locations previously found under the 'Places' menu.

2012-01-17 Thread Desktop Merger
Thanks for the feedbacks!
The crash doesn't seem to be related to the quicklist.

For the behavior, I tried to be consistent with the nautilus accelerator
(which seems to be used in the nautilus desktop menu as well) and am
using the same code path on purpose. I agree this can seem to have some
inconsistencies there, but I think this should be fixed everywhere: when
using the menu, when using the shortcut and in the quicklist,
consequently. (maybe another bug report for that?)

[Bug 917598] [NEW] batterie low warning has cancel button but does not cancel standby

2012-01-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When receiving a low-on-battery warning that recommends standby mode, you get a
ok and a cancel button. Both will make the dialog go away but neither
influences if the laptop goes to standby.
I would expect cancel to avoid going to standby as maybe the laptop just does
not support this and power is on its way.

[Bug 726902] Re: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity.

2012-01-17 Thread Tom Vijlbrief
Well, I also have the problem in Oneiric. It really drives me nut. I tried
every combination of
xorg.conf settings but could not get a setting with good results.

I'm using no window manager at all! I use the User Defined Session option from
lightdm
and start XBMC from there. Without xorg.conf I have no tearing (because
SwapBuffersWait is the
drivers default) but an irregular frame rate. Probably because XBMC cannot sync
on the retrace in that
configuration.

When I add

 Option SwapbuffersWait false

to an /etc/X11/xorg.conf and enable VSync in XBMC I get regular frame rates
when watching video
but always with tearing. The VSync Intel driver machinery on at least the Intel
945GM (first generation MiniMac)
is really screwed up. I'm using an HDMI display, I cannot remember having seen
this issue when using analog VGA output.

XBMC on the same box using Windows-7 works fine, so it is not a hardware
limitation.

That will be nice to see, though I'm sure there will be varying opinions as to
the way to go

As far as the crash, which I can't see the main report - at least here with
the current nautilus packages get it consistently.
If I re-build nautilus without the 12_. patch then no crashes, built off of
the gtk 3.3.6 libs, used with both those the new ones (3.3.8)
(- The new gtk/gail is causing some issue here with light-themes, but as far as
crash behavior is consistent
