[Bug 986269] Re: Unable to open a folder for 10 GB Filesystem, No application is registered as handling this file... Nautilus pops browser on bash partition mount

2012-04-25 Thread bcbc
I think this is a Unity action, not Nautilus

** Package changed: nautilus (Ubuntu) = unity

** Summary changed:

- Unable to open a folder for 10 GB Filesystem, No application is registered
as handling this file... Nautilus pops browser on bash partition mount
+ Unable to open a folder for 10 GB Filesystem, No application is registered
as handling this file... or Nautilus pops browser when partition is mounted in
bash script

** Description changed:

I first noticed this behaviour in Ubuntu 11.10. When I run my bash
script that mounts partitions on my hard drive (e.g /dev/sda5), Nautilus
pops up with a browser window. This is an illogical action, since I've
not 'inserted a drive', it's already there, and it's just been manually
mounted. This Nautilus action will interfere with the scripts operation
since, when the script tries to unmount the drive (rapidly) it finds
that Nautilus is still busy with it, producing it's browser window.

If I run chmod 700 on the mountpoint prior to mounting (root only
access), then I get a popup message stating: Unable to open a folder
for 10 GB Filesystem, No application is registered as handling this
file. This is because the mountpoint is not accessible to the logged in
  user.

You wouldn't expect this if you mount a partition from the terminal -
and for the most part this is correct (Nautilus does nothing), but not
all the time. I've managed to trigger Nautilus to pop just with a simple
  terminal mount.

I have a workaround in my bash script that creates a udev rule and runs
udevadm trigger to hide the partition, but this seems extreme. I believe
- it's a bug in Nautilus in how it responds to the signal that a partition
- has been mounted.
+ it's a bug in Unity(?) (maybe Nautilus?) in how it responds to the
+ signal that a partition has been mounted.

Please see this for complete details and discussion of possible
solutions (and the bash script code):
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/121569/prevent-nautilus-showing-
  partition-mounted-in-bash-script

I understand you can prevent Nautilus responding to inserted drives
etc., but this is definitely not the case here - the drive is already
there, just the partition is being mounted.

[Bug 951585] Re: gvfsd-afp consumes 100% of processor cycles

2012-04-25 Thread Justin Warkentin
I was doing nothing more than browsing the web with firefox and it
happened. I'm running gnome-shell on Ubuntu 11.10 and the only two apps
I had open were gedit and firefox. I heard my proc fan spin up so I
checked my process list and found gvfsd-afp using up 100% of one core.

would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at

[Bug 986275] Re: eog segmentation faults on standard input

2012-04-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
did you read the comment? you need to report a bug with the details
needed to track the issue

If the bug exists only in the earlier versions, it would still be
valid. Oneiric and Natty are still supported; Precise is not yet out of
beta testing.

that's not how launchpad work, the status concerns the current serie
(i.e precise), if a fix need to be backported to a stable serie then
there is an target to series option which let you pick to on what
series the bug should be tracked as well

[Bug 968268] Re: Cannot permanently add wallpaper to 'Pictures Folder'

2012-04-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ryan, we discussed similar issues but not exactly this one, with this
bug the currently selected wallpaper is showing nowhere in gnome-
control-center, what happens is:

- when you use the add button to select a wallpaper the ui change to picture
folder with the wallpaper you picked listed and selected
- if you close the capplet and reopen it (or go back to all settings and then
to appaerance) then image is listed in none of the categories

That's a bit of a confusing ui, maybe picture folder or wallpaper
should list the image from the gsettings key if it's not already in the
list to reflect the currently set wallpaper?

Or if you think it's wrong, at least selecting an image should not place
you on the picture folder section with the image added for the active
session only (i.e it's confusing that the ui shows you your image being
added to that section but remove it if you reopen the ui)

[Bug 988241] [NEW] Gedit quicklists don't function correctly

2012-04-25 Thread Elco
Public bug reported:

While gedit is active, when right-clicking on the gedit icon in the
launcher, both quicklist options (New window and New document) do
exactly the same, they open a new window with two new documents.

Expected behaviour was that New window would open a new window
(potentially with one new document), and New document opens a new tab
within the existing window.

Using Ubuntu 12.04 (with the lastest updates), gedit 3.4.1

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

[Bug 988251] [NEW] Nautilus cut/copy--paste not working

2012-04-25 Thread Peter Åberg
Public bug reported:

The problem appears while using the mouse trying to copy or cut / paste
links, folders or files from one location to another. After the mouse-
right-click drop-down menu selection of 'copy' or 'cut' the second
stage - right-click 'paste' (to the desired location) - is greyed out
and the selected files won't move/copy. Key combinations CTRL-X, CTRL-C,
CTRL-V don't work either.

However dragging and dropping with the mouse allways works perfectly.
Also using SHIFT + drag with the mouse works correctly.

The files are on the local network on a nfs v3-server (Ubuntu 10.04).
Permissions are correct and chmod is 755 (as it has always been). This
problem came with the Ubuntu 11.10 workstation and has never occurred
before. The workstation was upgraded from 10.10 to 11.10 by CD,
formatting / (ext4) and leaving Home unformatted (ext4). I am using

[Bug 315922] Re: 2.6.27-11 makes brightness not work [2.6.28-4.10 also affected]

2012-04-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Nicolò Chieffo, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Hardy desktop reached EOL on May 12, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD
images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a
supported release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal).
It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to
this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 988331] [NEW] Evolution Bug

2012-04-25 Thread Tema
Public bug reported:

I was in the process of deleting mail in my InBox of evolution when my
computer froze. After a reboot, and launch of evolution an error
occurred which shut down evolution. Now every time I try to launch
evolution it starts to launch then just stops and exits.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Lucid Lynx updated. I do not have much
experience with trouble shooting or coding. Please help me if you can.

Thanks, Tema

Edit: When I run Evolution in the terminal, the output is:

[Bug 968268] Re: Cannot permanently add wallpaper to 'Pictures Folder'

2012-04-25 Thread Dave Vree
Running 12.04 with the new Unity Greeter that shows your wallpaper on
the login screen.

Something else to think about with all this is that if the Pictures
Folder really means ~/Pictures then when you have an encrypted home
directory, these pictures will not appear at the login screen.
Likewise if adding a picture means adding a pointer to it under the
.cache directory it will also not appear on the login screen.

Ideally, there should be a way, even if it requires sudo priviledges to
add wallpapers to /usr/share/backgrounds. If you this is a separate
issue, let me know and I'll open a new issue.

[Bug 938252] [NEW] Unity should alert users graphically when a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse is connected

2012-04-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Currently on OSX, the operating system informs users if a Bluetooth
keyboard or mouse is connected or disconnected, albeit after an initial
time. (What I mean by after an initial time is this: it doesn't show
it if it's connected in the first seconds of login.)

What happens is that an box similar to the Unity box-shown-when-play-
is-pressed-and-banshee-isn't-running box is shown with a keyboard icon
and a message saying Keyboard Connected. The same happens with a
mouse, and it happens both for connect and disconnect. This makes things
very convenient. If your Bluetooth keyboard disconnects, you immediately
know about it.

These features would be very handy in the next version of Ubuntu.

[Bug 988352] [NEW] cannot create events in google caledars

2012-04-25 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Well, this is actually two bugs:

1) I simply cannot - or only sometimes - create events in a google
calendar. The error message is Kalenderobjekt kann nicht angelegt
werden: Kalender existiert nicht. Waiting some time and trying again
(and again and again) often solves the issue. I'm reliably connected
to the internet.

2) Concerning the above mentioned error message I found:

+msgid Calendar doesn't support Free/Busy
+msgstr Kalender existiert nicht

This is by far not the correct translation. It should be
Dieser Kalender unterstützt nicht die Anzeige von verfügbar/beschäftigt.

2012-04-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Those notifications usually come from a service handling events and not
from unity, most of them are handled by gnome-settings-daemon nowadays.
Setting as wontfix though because it doesn't seem like something the
desktop team will have time to work on in the next cycle

[Bug 969535] Re: [power]: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in engine_get_icon_priv()

2012-04-25 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
I thought I had mentioned it in this bug, but I guess I hadn't --- I
also have a triple-head Xinerama config (on an Nvidia Quadro NVS 450).

Also, since it may not be clear to those who are not experiencing this
bug, when gnome-settings-daemon crashes at startup, it means that most
apps (Thunderbird, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) are totally unthemed, and many
desktop-wide settings (such as font size adjustments, etc.) are not
applied at all. In other words, the desktop looks like crap and is hard
to use.

If this isn't fixed for the Precise release, it might be a good idea to
have a prominent item in the release notes discouraging folks with
nontrivial multi-head setups from upgrading...

2012-04-25 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Public bug reported:

The time zone used right now (2012-04-25) in Jerusalem is UTC+3, but the
Gnome clock shows UTC+2 (EET).

The time returned using tzdata alone is correct

TZ=Asia/Jerusalem date
mer 25 apr 2012, 18.25.13, IDT

Gnome clock says 17:26.

[Bug 988378] Re: Jerusalem summer time zone is not correct

This seems related to bug #185190, but that bug is marked as resolved in
Ubuntu 8.04, while this is still a problem in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

2012-04-25 Thread Barry Warsaw
Public bug reported:

While this is fine, preferable even for the development version of the

Did you read mine? I gave all the details necessary to reproduce the bug

necessary to reproduce the bug .

Precise is not yet out of beta testing. Why is it considered the current
series in that state? The beta doesn't even boot on my hardware.

2012-04-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
well, you gave the details but the bug doesn't happen there so you will
need to provide a backtrace, note that you are the first one to report
it and that it could be hardware specific

current serie has nothing to do with the state of anything, it's where
the work happen, from day 1 on an unstable cycle the current serie is
the one which just opened, the issue is fixed in precise, if you want it
fixed in oneiric you should start by providing the requested infos so it
can be worked, then get it nominate for an oneiric update

[Bug 121167] Re: rhythmbox doesn't scrobble correctly tracks to lastfm

2012-04-25 Thread Blaise Alleyne
I'm still having this problem in Rhythmbox 2.90.1 in Ubuntu 11.10... if
I listen to one song on repeat, it doesn't scrobble *anything* -- rather
than scrobbling each play, which is what I'd expect it to do.

When I take repeat off, however, and just play the track once and let it
stop at the end of the single track playlist, it scrobbles fine...

1. Open a terminal and make yourself a root user:
sudo su
2. Go to /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0:
cd /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0
3. Make a backup dir:
