[Bug 763894] Re: could not initialise Xv output

2012-05-08 Thread Jerome Warnier
Parole uses Xv output by default, but some drivers do not support it, or it is
not enabled.
Though, you might tell Parole not to use Xv at all, with its --xv false
command-line option. This setting is permanent, up to when you enable it back
using --xv true.

Reference:
http://gnubyexample.blogspot.com/2011/04/parole-media-player-xv-option-and.html

Hope it helps

[Bug 996473] [NEW] Status selections in drop down menu do not work

2012-05-08 Thread Ken Pratt
Public bug reported:

Empathy is up and running and I can chat. I have accounts with
Facebook, Google Talk, Yahoo!, and Nearby (broadcast). The drop down
menu under the envelope shows that I am Offline b ut I am not. And, I
can not change the status to other than offline. I attached my
/etc/network/interfaces on the assumption that perhaps it is playing a
role along with NetworkManager.

I should be able to change my status to any of Available, Away, Busy, or
Invisible. Clicking on any of those selections results in nothing. My
status is not changed nor is the indicator.

[Bug 995401] Re: Ubuntu 12.04: keyboard layout does not change languages

2012-05-08 Thread billjoie
Same problems on a Dell laptop and an HP tower after upgrading from
11.10. Have Canadian and Norwegian keyboards installed. alt+shift
changes the language on the indicator, but the layout is not effectively
changed. Same problem if I use the mouse to change the layout on the
keyboard-indicator. Related to the following discussion:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1968980. There is a temporary
workaround posted: running 'sudo setxkbmap -option grp:alt_shift_toggle
no,ca' after login.

[Bug 977438] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 gnome classic panel displayed on full screen videos

2012-05-08 Thread Filip Milivojevic
If it helps in any way, I came to the conclusion that the Place
windows plugin is called even for windows that are already on the
screen, and not only for windows that are new, and that it changes the
position and size of the windows, so that the remain on the screen and
not overlap the panels.

[Bug 996494] [NEW] Wrong file size calculation

2012-05-08 Thread Luis
Public bug reported:

When getting the properties of a file, the compacted size displayed is wrong.
Some examples of files:
- 3,085,869,060 bytes is shown as 3.1 GiB when it should be 2.87 GiB (or 3.08
GB).
- 88,383,063 bytes is shown as 88.4 MB (correct)
- 385,209 bytes is shown as 385.2 KiB when it should be 376.1 KiB (or 385.2 KB)

It is clear that there is a bug as GiB and KiB is displayed when it
should read GB and KB (or have the right calculations done to show real
GiB, MiB and KiB consistently).

Luis

One more thing: when I click this little keyboard icon in layout

Preview while adding a new layout works fine.

Also the layout indicator on top is missing (in unity, not during

I am effected by this as well.

Possible workaround: In System Settings Brightness and Lock switch off
'Lock'. The downside is that your system also cannot lock anymore after

[Bug 990957] Re: Global keyboard shortcuts should not depend on current layout

2012-05-08 Thread Dmitry Kann
** Description changed:

- After upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 Precise some keyboard shortcuts assigned
- via System Settings - Keyboard fail to work without any sensible
- reason. This applies to both standard (like Volume Up/Down) and custom
- shortcuts.
+ After upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 Precise global shortcuts began to depend
+ on current layout, which is not how it's supposed to be.

- I have a lot of custom shortcuts for starting applications, like
- Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Letter, half of them does work, half of them doesn't.
- Which ones exactly—changes after every logon or reassigning shortcuts in
- the Keyboard.
+ Say, I assign the global shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D to run an
+ application. But if I have Russian layout selected in the current
+ application, the system translates it into Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Cyrillic ve
+ and ignores it. The same goes for assigning shortcuts in GNOME Control
+ Center, the shortcut is read in the current layout.
+
+ *Global* shortcuts should not depend on current keyboard layout in the
+ application.

[Bug 995840] Re: When laptop lid is closed screen locks even if it should not

2012-05-08 Thread Sep Thijssen
@ Florin
In the power settings I also tested the option to suspend when the lid is
closed. I tried this once and all seemed to work properly. In this test I
didn't even have to give a password because I unchecked Require my password
when waking from suspend. This box apparanly only effects the suspend
situation.

So there is an option to wake up without password from a suspend, but
not after a simple close+open of the lid.

[Bug 982956] Re: HUD won't show main window menu options when a chat window has focus

2012-05-08 Thread NeilGreenwood
My steps to reproduce:

Open Empathy Contact List (click Chat on messaging menu)
Open a Conversation window to one of my contacts
Press Alt key to open the HUD
Type Pref

Multiple entries are displayed, none of which are the Edit
Preferences option for the Empathy preferences. It doesn't matter
whether I use the mouse or keyboard to select an option, I'm unable to
get to the Empathy preferences.

If I change the search string in HUD to Prefer, I only see 2
Preferences options - one for Dropbox and one for indicator-multiload,
both of which are running as indicator apps (i.e. by the clock on the
top right, I think I have the name right).

[Bug 930696] Re: NAUTILUS: Failed to retrieve share list from server

2012-05-08 Thread savage
Same problem here on Ubuntu 12.04. I'm on a large network, but I can
only access a few hosts over SMB with Nautilus. On most hosts I get
this Failed to retrieve share list from server error. The smbclient
-L host command works for every host.

As far as I can tell the problem occurs only for specific SMB host
OS'es. Both Windows 2008 hosts I tried were unaccessible through
Nautilus, while the Linux host I tried (smbd 3.X) could succesfully be
accessed. But there are probably other factors involved.

[Bug 996552] [NEW] file roller does not open files with odt ending

2012-05-08 Thread Tim Wahrendorff
Public bug reported:

I am a systemdeveloper developing reporting systems for University
Management Software.

we are using Libreoffice as reporting Engine and do some non-standard
stuff with the odt files, we use as templates for pdf output.

In the past I was able to open an odt file with a right-click and choosing
Open in file-roller, but with 12.04 I get an Error message: Archive is not
supported.
When I change the filesuffix from .odt to .zip, file-roller has no problems
opening the file. Of course not, since an odt file IS ACTUALLY an zip archive
and therefore it should be able to open it with file-roller.

I really hope this is not an intended feature, since it would be an
odd one...

[Bug 958353] Re: Unity launcher and panel are still visible on the lock screen

2012-05-08 Thread Karim Moussa
I'm seeing the same behaviour of the Super key over/under the locked screen as
Robert. (#15)
But if I hold Super and press one of the number keys to start a program from
the launcher, it will not open, not even in the background.
I've observed this with radeon and i915 on two computers. Killing
gnome-screensaver and restarting it using a terminal doesn't resolve the issue.

[Bug 388656] Re: Non-intuitive term Move to trash

2012-05-08 Thread Jeremy Orme
I agree with Todd. When you want to delete something you don't expect
to want it back - otherwise you'd move it somewhere specific or rename
it - when you delete an item, you want rid of it (even if your future
self might want it back!). Also, isn't there an inconsistency with
hitting the Delete button on the keyboard to move an item into the
trash but having to select Move to trash from the menu? Finally, I
think that the concept that you can get your deleted files back out of
the waste basket is pretty well known (even by inexperienced users)
because the recycle bin / trash folder has been around for so long so
why inconvenience the 99% that do understand this principle to maybe
educate the 1% that don't.

[Bug 973014] Re: Fails to decode many common video files encoded as AVC 1 Baseline - L2.1, Baseline - L1.1

It would be worth seeing if this can be tracked to a particular .so(s)
in the bad plugin - removing that plugin isn't going to be an ultimate
solution

[Bug 872465] Re: creating multiple folders fails

2012-05-08 Thread Garrie Mushet
Having precisely the same problem after a fresh install of 12.04 LTS...

Open a directory, CTRL+SHIFT+N to create new directory - works fine -
type the name of the new directory, hit enter. CTRL+SHIFT+N again to
create another directory - sometimes works fine, but a lot of the time
received the error:

The item could not be renamed. There is no in this folder. Perhaps
it was just moved or deleted?

Get the same issue when you conduct it using the mouse rather than the
keyboard.

I have the same problem with a Canon Digital Ixus V3 / Ubuntu 12.04. I
killed gvsfd-gphoto2 when it was using more than 2.5 GB of memory. There

[Bug 996646] [NEW] Evolution mbox export broken

2012-05-08 Thread Olivier Le Merdy
Public bug reported:

Following Ubuntu suggestions and getting rid of Evolution which is
painfully slow on my computer, I am trying to migrate to Thunderbird,
using the mbox export feature available in Evolution.

Unfortunately, the feature seems to be broken in Evolution 3.2, as
reported here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=667576. Short
version is: each mail in the exported mailbox encapsulates the whole
mail bundle plus their attachments, which make a few hundred mails take
1 GiB.

The bug is marked fixed as of Evolution 3.3.5, which has not been
bundled in last Ubuntu update. Evolution team send pack to distribution
provider to include the corresponding patch
(http://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/commit/?id=df3495a6ec99d53beeaac6b9a2fde8dfd356c439)
in prior versions of Evolution.

I tried a number of workarounds, including installing a beta
distribution in a VM with a current version of Evolution to use its
export feature but, in addition to being a painfully long process, it
simply does not work as Evolution 3.3.9 does not seem to correctly
handle my 1.4 GiB archive file and miss half the mails bundled. For the
few ones which made it through the archive/restore/export/import
process, the result is perfectly OK though.

Manually exporting thousands of mails (yes, 10+ years ;)) does not seem
reasonnable to me either.

Is there a plan to include this patch to help me and other people migrating to
LTS 12.04 to use this feature?
Thanks by advance!

This problem is still present in Precise. I just printed this page.

pages rendered as text.

2012-05-08 Thread Doug McMahon
I believe it's the libgstvideoparsersbad.so
So with the bad plugin installed try this on 64 bit install

sudo mv /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/gstreamer-0.10/libgstvideoparsersbad.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/gstreamer-0.10/libgstvideoparsersbad.so.bak

On a 32 bit install something like

sudo mv /usr/lib/i386-linux-
gnu/gstreamer-0.10/libgstvideoparsersbad.so /usr/lib/i386-linux-
gnu/gstreamer-0.10/libgstvideoparsersbad.so.bak

If anyone else can confirm we can alter the bug description

[Bug 975941] Re: [soundnua]: Spurious Digital Output S/PDIF output entry for USB headset

2012-05-08 Thread Orangedouble
I had this same bug with a plantronics usb headset. I followed the
suggestions in comments 4 and 6 and they successfully removed the S/PDIF
listing. For me the output of cat /proc/asound/cards was Plantronics
USB Headset.
