[Bug 887946] Re: [SRU] Deadlocks in main loop

2012-06-08 Thread Ante Karamatić
** Description changed:

Some applications get stuck in a deadlock when utilizing glib. One of
examples is lrmadmin, when connecting to lrmd. Upstream provided a fix
for this bug and Ubuntu's version 11.04 and newer do not have this
  issue.

Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 do not contain the fix. Upstream fix:
- https://mail.gnome.org/archives/commits-list/2010-November/msg01816.html
+   https://mail.gnome.org/archives/commits-list/2010-November/msg01816.html

  [Impact]
Remove potential and demonstratable deadlocks in glib code.

  [Test Case]
- * Install lucid
- * add ubuntu-ha-maintainers lucid ppa and update repo:
-apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-ha-maintainers/lucid-cluster ; apt-get update
- * Install pacemaker:
-apt-get -y install pacemaker
- * Enable corosync (/etc/default/corosync) and start it:
-sed -i -e 's/START=no/START=yes/' /etc/default/corosync
-service corosync start
- * Open two client-server connections:
-lrmadmin -C ; lrmadmin -C
-It deadlocks on second run (it actually never finishes the first run).
+  * Install lucid
+ * Install python-software-properties:
+apt-get install python-software-properties
+  * add ubuntu-ha-maintainers lucid ppa and update repo:
+    apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-ha-maintainers/lucid-cluster ; apt-get update

- * Kill lrmd and stop corosync:
-killall -9 lrmd ; service corosync stop
- * install fix
-apt-get update apt-get install libglib2.0-0
- * Start corosync:
-service corosync start
- * Run the test again:
-lrmadmin -C ; lrmadmin -C ; lrmadmin -C ; lrmadmin -C
- * It doesn't deadlock.
+  * Kill lrmd and stop corosync:

  [Regression Potential]
Regression potential should be very small. This change is still present in
almost unmodified upstream code to this day (g_source_unref_internal of
glib/gmain.c). The upstream trunk commit is at

[Bug 939301] Re: Chromium and gnome-keyring, no username or password

2012-06-08 Thread professordes
I have this issue (gnome keyring daemon hogging cpu at login with either
Chrome or Chromium) on multiple machines running 12.04. No freezes, just
very high cpu usage. Killing the offending process has no obvious ill
effects.

I'm inclined to think that the Chrome issue pointed out in #4 above,
large keyring slow writes, is the cause since I also see this with a
Fedora 17 machine when Chrome is fired up.

[Bug 1009995] Re: Option to enable extra keyboard layout is lost

2012-06-08 Thread Vasyĺ V . Vercynśkyj
Yes, that is the very dialog. And if I click on the + button then I'll really
get a choice of hundreds of layouts, but without extra layouts I need! E.g.:
$ grep name\ru\ -A20 /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.extras.xml | grep -B2
description
nameru/name
shortDescriptionru/shortDescription
descriptionRussian/description
--
  configItem
namechu/name
descriptionChurch Slavonic/description
--
nameruu/name
shortDescriptionru/shortDescription
descriptionRussian (with Ukrainian-Belorussian
layout)/description

As you can see there are no Church Slavonic and Russian (with
Ukrainian-Belorussian layout) layouts in Keyboard Layout dialog,
because they are placed in the extra section and the system doesn't
read extra rules by default, moreover it hasn't an option to enable
this feature.

[Bug 1005531] Re: Editing irc port is hard

2012-06-08 Thread Stefan
Workaround for this bug:

Click on the port text-box. From now on you don't see what you are doing
any more since the + and - buttons are consuming all space. But the
text-box is still there, you just can't see it. So you blindly do:

* press Control-A to select all text in the box
* backspace to delete everything
* type the new number
* hit enter
* verify the number

This is a bug in 12.04, it affects all systems I've tested it on (Dell,

[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)

2012-06-08 Thread kamahat
The current workaround (comment #30) :

sudo mv /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0/keyboard.gnome-settings-plugin
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0/keyboard.gnome-settings-plugin.ori
sudo pkill -9 gnome-settings-daemon

The issue is not directly related to :
- video card driver (i'm using nvidia somes are using ATI)
- not to VNC
- not to virtualization techno
- not to multiple keyboard layout.
- any new idea ?

[Bug 122993] Re: ondemand governor does not use maximum frequency under load

2012-06-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
asubedi, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Gutsy
Gibbon reached EOL on April 18th, 2009.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If
so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD
images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a
supported release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal).
It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to
this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 379367] Re: Gedit adding a newline at the end of file should be configurable

2012-06-08 Thread Jails
I don't understand why this behavior is still imposed to the community. A
simple option or plugin would allow everyone to enjoy gedit. the argument that
having an option for small similar details would rather confuse users than be
useful ... gedit will stay simple to use for users doesn't make sense for de
following reasons :
- Silently adding a newline at the end of the file is not a detail for me.
- The Gedit syntax highlighting and features in general make it usefull for a
wide audience and programmers too.
- Gedit has dozens of expert plugins but none can be done for this issue
since the newline is always added at the end.

Users should have the choice to be able to configure Gedit to make it
save exactly what they write, no more no less.

[Bug 1010558] [NEW] Can't Disable Custom Keyboard Setting

2012-06-08 Thread Jun Inoue
Public bug reported:

I can't disable the default key binding for ControlAltt (Launch
Terminal) from gnome-control-center. (Note: I use Ubuntu's Japanese
edition, and I merely traslated the menu items into English. They might
be worded slightly differently on actual English-edition systems.)

Steps to reproduce:
0. mutter-common should be installed for these steps to exhibit the bug.
1. Type gnome-control-center on the command line.
2. Click on Keyboard - Shortcuts - Custom Shortcuts.
There should be a binding for Launch Terminal. I wanted to disable this
binding.
3. Click on the Launch Terminal line, and dismiss the dialog it pops up.
4. Now click on the - button. The binding will disappear from the list.
5. Close the control center and hit Ctrl-Alt-t in the app of your choice (I
used emacs).

Expected behavior: terminal should no longer start; the currently
focused application should get the keys. gnome-control-center should no
longer show the binding that I deleted.

Actual behavior: terminal starts; the application doesn't see the keys.
If you start gnome-control-center again, you will find that the Launch
Terminal shortcut has magically resurrected itself.

It is possible to change the keys bound to Launch Terminal, and it is
possible to change the action taken when this shortcut is fired. Those
changes stick. But removal of the binding is always silently undone.

Possible cause: I don't know enough about gconf to say for sure, but it
seems like settings introduced in /usr/share/gconf/defaults/* are
treated as permanent. This particular problem with Launch Terminal
is caused by the setting in /usr/share/gconf/defaults/10_mutter-common.
It does not seem to matter whether you use mutter or not; that file
hijacks the settings just by being there.

Workaround: Uninstall mutter-common. Or, set Launch Terminal to a key
that you'll never press, like Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F12.

[Bug 1010619] [NEW] [2.97-0ubuntu2] Rhythmbox freezes

2012-06-08 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Public bug reported:

Hello,

With the latest version of RB 2.97-0ubuntu2, the interface freezes at launch.
I didn't have this bug with the previous version 2.97-0ubuntu1 but it's a bit
strange because it seems the change between the two versions only concerns
'audiocd' plugin (and I have this bug with or without this plugin)

If I launch it with this command, I don't have any problem:
  $ rhythmbox --rhythmdb-file=test.db

Maybe my (huge) database is corrupted but if I launch RB with the debug
mode (-d), I don't have this bug (but it takes a few time before being
ready to use).

[Bug 1010628] [NEW] Power off dialog button grouping is unintuitive

2012-06-08 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Public bug reported:

When the power button is pressed, a dialog appears with buttons Suspend,
Reboot, Cancel, Shutdown, in this order. All buttons are evenly spaced.
I would expect Cancel to be separated from the others as it will result
in no action, and also Reboot and Shutdown to be placed next to each-

work).

[Bug 305558] Re: vertical maximize when double clicking on titlebar

2012-06-08 Thread Jesse Barnes
This happens in 12.04 too. It now looks like the string toggle-
maximize-vertically is being put into gconf. The dashes should be
underscores though; correcting it to toggle_maximize_vertically makes
things work as expected.

[Bug 1010705] [NEW] gnome-control-center display applet never appears

2012-06-08 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
Public bug reported:

the display applet inside gnome-control-center refuses to load. Click on
it causes the program to endlessly loop (I can't even xkill it, it just
respawns) stealing focus each time it respawns. minimizing, or closing
the app causes it to respawn in the middle of the screen with focus,
display the applets.

so does ANYONE have a CLEAR method to enable networking? I'm ready to
give up on this -wasted many hours trying to make it work. Read all the
so-called fixes online and nothing works. Doesn't seem to be worth
