the problem this would help solve would be for example to easily assign a full screen application, be it a webapp in a browser or a presentation, to a seperate display output channel, all this being done by an ordinary user with no expert knowledge on a desktop window management level. thank you. problem solved. the alterternative would be to write xorg.conf from scratch, and that means the user has to work with the command line to assign a specific picture to a specific output and the user must learn the extremely poorly documented configuration language of xorg.conf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393808 Title: Allow displaying different virtual desktops on different devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/393808/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 393808] Re: Allow displaying different virtual desktops on different devices
Commenting on Bryce's request for a use case for this. One use case would be how I use the Awesome window manager at work: I have two physical screens, on one I can have my text editor doing whatever programming is needed, on the other I switch between a workspace (called tag in awesome) containing terminal windows, a workspace containing documentation and a workspace with the webpage/application I'm working on. [Bug 537970] Re: Evince does not print images in some pdf files.
So, any other idea as to why Evince cannot print the above PDFs? I know Launchpad states that only 3 people are affected. But my whole office has been having that problem for three years or so and most have already moved on to proprietary software. Because, you know, that works. Please note I'm not just bitching around. I'm able and willing to help if anybody could get me started. [Bug 1011257] Re: x-gvfs-show option doesn't work
Further findings. I think the reason why x-gvfs-show doesn't work is that package util- linux needs to be upgraded to 2.21+ to support the x-gvfs options. In the meantime I tried changing the option in my /etc/fstab to comment =gvfs-show, which seems to be the way to do it for older versions of util-linux. mount -a then worked immediately (I got one icon per volume) but after a reboot I still get two icons as per bug #1010858. But as regards *this* bug, the real fault is that it's depending on a feature in util-linux-2.21+ and that package hasn't (yet, presumably) been updated yet. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011257 Title: x-gvfs-show option doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1011257/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

seb128, I cannot reproduce this bug on Precise. [Bug 847001] Re: Adjusting display brightness is very slow on several Dell laptops
Also of possible interest. On my system I have three devices of class backlight: ls -l /sys/class/backlight/ total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jun 12 14:17 acpi_video0 - ../../devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/:01:00.0/backlight/acpi_video0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jun 12 13:39 acpi_video1 - ../../devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/backlight/acpi_video1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jun 12 14:17 intel_backlight - ../../devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-LVDS-1/intel_backlight Each of these devices has a file inside called brightness. The way these files change is interesting and suggests there is a probelem/confusion/interaction among acpi_video0 and acpi_video1 I could see what happens with the following command: watch -d -n 0.1 cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video1/brightness cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness then watching how the values change in reaction to brightness keypresses. The intel_backlight/brightness value stands fixed at 497 The acpi_video0/brightness and acpi_video1/brightness values are normally not the same. e.g. the following happens: Values are: 6 -- 7 then I do one Fn+ArrowUP keypress for increasing brighness. After 1s, values become (but brightness does not change): 8 -- 7 Then after 1s and at 0.5s intervals, they change to 8 -- 9 8 -- 10 8 -- 11 One thing it always happens is that after a single keypress of brightness up (down), the first value acpi_video0/brightness gets the value of acpi_video1/brightness plus (minus) one, respectively. [Bug 987220] Re: no complete shutdown
Sometime it works with command: shutdown now -h It never works with command: halt That refers to bug #880240, which is not the bug reported by the submitter. The 'halt' command does not do what people assume it does. You need to call either 'shutdown -h now', or 'poweroff', or 'halt -p'. The bug here is with the system not shutting down when shut down from the GUI - that's not at all due to a user calling the wrong command from the commandline. Perhaps the GUI makes the same wrong assumption and calls 'halt' when it should not, or perhaps there's a hardware-specific issue with the poweroff handling. (This would not be the first time that had happened, but most such problems were long ago with a much less mature kernel.) ** Summary changed: - no complete shutdown + System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987220 Title: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-session/+bug/987220/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

indicator-session calls the consolekit shutdown interface, which uses '/usr/lib/ConsoleKit/scripts/ck-system-stop', which calls 'shutdown -h now'. [Bug 75654] Re: deleted songs listed again when using library watch
I think a simple solution would be to add a boolean attribute called ExcludeFromLibrary to each track in the xml file. If the parser comes across such an attribute with a true value, then it simply ignores it. When adding new files to the library, it would be a good idea to run through the list of excluded files to ensure that it has not already been excluded. If it is found in that list, then the attribute is flipped to false. This will stop the library file getting clogged up with duplicate excluded tracks. ** Changed in: hundredpapercuts Milestone: precise-4-music-video = quantal-1-audio-video ** Changed in: hundredpapercuts Importance: Medium = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/75654 Title: deleted songs listed again when using library watch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/75654/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
