[Bug 984596] Re: problèmes de son

2012-06-18 Thread Alain Legrand
Bonjour,

Merci !

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-18 Thread Charles Jie
I have the same problem on 6 notebooks in my recent installation of
ubuntu 12.04 desktop (either amd64 or i386).

Three are mine:
Toshiba L640 (i3 box with amd/ati video chip, amd64)
acer aoa150 (netbook)
acer aod150 (netbook too)

Three are on my 3 students:
asus (netbook)
asus UX31E (i5, new slim notebook, amd64)
acer MS2346 (i5, new slim notebook, amd64)

Because we seldom (it does succeed sometimes) succeed to shutdown from
system menu, now we all rely on alt-f2 sudo poweroff, which is sure to
turn off it.

p.s. If it fails to finish, it will stay at a high level of power consumption,
e.g.
My toshiba L640, it will go from 22W to 35W
Asus UX31E, it will go from 17W to 29W.

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-18 Thread Charles Jie
In addition, the ubuntu 12.04 installation iso (i386 or amd64) can't
shutdown either:

I put the iso in a flash drive: boot by grub4dos, fat32 fs, with casper-
rw to save changes.

I've used these flash drives (one for i386, one for amd64) to install
many laptops (more than 10), but I can never shutdown after finishing
installation. (So I always have to repair the casper-rw file system
afterward.)

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed drive

2012-06-18 Thread Martin Wildam
Tried again (as a while passed by and I am currently on 12.04): Still
same issue.

Clicking eject in Nautilus seems to remove the device correctly, but
disk usage analyzer for example still sees it - so that does not
completely unmount the drive/device!

I consider this a critical issue as I am not always able to eject and in
the next seconds find the correct plug - otherwise it is already
remounted when I unplug it.

2012-06-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ok, after discussion on IRC we figured that there is an obvious error in
10_smaller_syndaemon_timeout.patch: we add an extra argument to *args[]
without changing the allocation (i.e we write NULL out of the arrays),
not sure how that turns out in corrupting ebx but Chris is looking at it
;-)

  * debian/patches/10_smaller_syndaemon_timeout.patch: Update to increase
the size of the stack allocated array for the extra argument passed to
syndaemon. This fixes a crash in the PLT due to a corrupt %ebx register
(which holds the GOT base address on i386), which was caused in an earlier
function by writing zero in to the location on the stack where the value of
%ebx is saved. Thanks to Sebastien Bacher for spotting the buggy patch!

[Bug 1014473] [NEW] hdmi video out broken on package upgrade

2012-06-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have two external monitors, one running through the vga out port and
the other the hdmi out port and both were working fine in a dual head
configuration until a recent package upgrade. Now only the vga out works
and in the dispaly manager the hdmi connected monitor does not appear.

I have another open bug about triple head not working here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
ati/+bug/931240 (laptop monitor won't work in tandem with two external
monitors) but this is the first time for my hdmi out to go dead.

I've tried creating a new account to see if it was user specific
settings creating the problem, but a new user account exhibits the same
behavior.

I would like to know which package upgrade I need to reverse in order to
get my workstation back to full functionality.

[Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* or Alt+* (* = any key)

2012-06-18 Thread Anthony Wong
Hi Daniel,

Your workaround may not work for the super+P (video out switch event),
because it is handled by gnome-settings-daemon. (of course technically
it can be done, but that means we need to write a new program to do
that)

And I want to know what has changed in 12.04 Unity with regard to the
Super key, because the Super+P key sequence, which is sent by the
video out hotkeys, has been working fine in 11.10 and before.

Thanks,
Anthony

+ unable to add a bookmark in nautilus by drag'n'drop -if there are no existing
bookmarks.

** Description changed:

- This seems to be a dublicate of the bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/827049
- Reason behind this one: the bug is still available in precise (which
apparently isn't precise yet).
+ in Ubuntu Precise.

- 1.Ubuntu release: 12.04 LTS
- 2.nautilus version: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu2
- 3. I expect to be able to add bookmarks in nautilus
- 4. impossible to add a bookmark: either by dragging it to the side pane, or
by clicking Ctrl-D, or by selecting the option from the menu.
+ steps to reproduce: delete all user configs (rm -rf ~/.*), logout-login
+ and try adding a bookmark by drag'n'drop.

- additional info: delete all user configs (rm -rf ~/.*), logout-login and
- try adding a bookmark.
+ Adding a bookmark in nautilus is a feature that's rather difficult to

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-18 Thread Stefan Essl
I've installed Linux Mint 13 (Maya) Ubuntu 12.04 based on 6 PCs for
educational purpose.

Shutdown via GUI does not work at all. The PCs remain powered on, but no
input is possible

I tried to turn them off on a console but only one manages to power off after
:~$ sudo shutdown -h now:~$
but not always...

The others show the line
   [876.9876] Power down.
forever until i turn them off manually

After googling around I've found the kernel parameters
  noapic nolapic acpi=off
...but it didn't change the problem really, sometimes it worked, sometimes
not...

Then I read the posting from
  plum7500 (plum01) wrote on 2012-06-13:
and i tried:
:~$ sudo su -
:~# shutdown -h now

I use kernel 3.2.023
The PCs have nvidia cards...could this be the problem?

I tried to switch from nvidia current to nvidia current-updates on one PC:
After restart i tried to turn off via GUI and it did not power down...
I tried again as root on the console, the PC had noapic and nolapic options as
kernel parameters:
Ctrl-Alt-F1 = console
loggedin as user
:~$ sudo su -
:~# shutdown -h now
...and it did shutdown

All PCs used to power off since Ubuntu 8.04 what can I do? BIOS ACPI
settings?

[Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3

2012-06-18 Thread Martin Pitt
Seconded what Dmitrijs says. Instead of

-print sys.stderr, 'ERROR (dkms apport): both -m and -v are required'
+print('ERROR (dkms apport): both -m and -v are required', file=sys.stderr)

use something like

  sys.stderr.write('ERROR... required\n')

(i. e. add the explicit \n at the end). This will work with both Python
2 and 3. Alternatively, use

  from __future__ import print_statement.

[Bug 766882] Re: [apparmor] evince need access to /dev/.udev/data/b

2012-06-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
/dev/.udev/data/** was fixed in 11.10, but /run/udev/data/** was not.
This is likely not going to be fixed since 11.10 is in maintenance mode
now.

== Workaround ==
Add to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince:
deny /run/udev/data/** r,

Then perform:
$ sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

[Bug 1014068] Re: unable to add a bookmark in nautilus by drag'n'drop -if there are no existing bookmarks.

2012-06-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, the feature of adding bookmarks by dnd got
dropped:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=8151dc038c78c8dfc5106d80217ae3e38491ad61

places-sidebar: allow dropping of files to bookmarks
Change the way DnD works in the places sidebar. After this commit, DnD on the
bookmarks area will always mean copy/move the DnD source into the bookmark
instead of add a bookmark to this location (DnD of bookmark rows in their
section will still reorder them), since that's the most common action you want
to do. This also makes it consistent with the default action obtained by
dropping on the built-in places below.

The way to add bookmarks is to use ctrl-d or the add bookmark menu entry

Is there a workaround for this? When I keep my monitors mirrored my
external VGA is the right orientation, but if I try to use both it's

[Bug 959276] Re: Scrolling message in preview breaks rendering

2012-06-18 Thread Nate Case
Same problem here. Fresh Ubuntu 12.04 install, and I get this problem
about 5-6 times a day. Restarting Evolution is the only way to fix it
each time (disabling and re-enabling message previews does not do the
trick).

AMD/ATI graphics here, so it doesn't seem like nVidia vs. Intel vs.
AMD/ATI make a difference.

I will try disabling overlay scrollbars to see if that makes a
difference. It should only take a day for me to learn for sure since it
happens so frequently.

[Bug 1007588] Re: [mouse]: gnome-settings-daemon SIGSEGV in gdk_device_manager_list_devices@plt()

2012-06-18 Thread jerrylamos
Updated 12 noon EST and Systems Settings Displays works, so the bug is
fixed. Anyone know how to mark the bug solved?

Thanks much!

One funny, pull down menus now have a white stripe with black lettering
for each line, example Systems Settings from the applet on the top right
of the screen. I can read the text so no big deal, just different.
Some default somewhere I don't know must have changed.

Thanks for the fix,

Jerry

[Bug 1014473] Re: hdmi video out broken on package upgrade

2012-06-18 Thread Byron Palmer
I was using my laptop to play movies on my tv using hdmi. When I
upgraded recently, which included a new kernel, the hdmi causes the
computer to freeze, forcing a reboot. As long as I don't plug in the
hdmi everything works properly. But the instant I plug in the cable the
computer freezes. The wifi continues to function but nothing else. I
can't switch to a terminal screen. The only thing I can do is reboot.

I have not tried going back to an earlier kernel but will try that soon.

[Bug 1014763] [NEW] evolution deletes spamd socket file when creating new temp files

2012-06-18 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Public bug reported:

After a while, evolution stops using spamassassin for junk mail
detection.

Here is what happens:

1- Evolution creates spamd socket and pid file in ~/.cache/evolution/tmp with
2- When creating a new temporary directory to open an email attachment,
evolution notices that the socket and pid file are more than 2 hours old, and
deletes them, breaking spamassassin integration

See TEMP_EXPIRE in e-util/e-mktemp.c.

The problem is that it's using st.st_atime, but that's no longer getting
updated on Ubuntu and/or with ext4.

This is my directory before opening an attachment:
