[Bug 975941] Re: [soundnua]: Spurious Digital Output S/PDIF output entry for USB headset

2012-06-29 Thread Jason Eggleston
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1002952 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002952

I have the problems described here exactly, but I have this:

$ cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [PCH]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf762 irq 61
 1 [P7xx ]: USB-Audio - Plantronics Savi 7xx
Plantronics Plantronics Savi 7xx at usb-:00:1d.0-1.2,
full speed
 2 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xf708 irq 17

I added the device to /usr/share/alsa/cards/USB-Audio.conf:

USB-Audio.pcm.iec958_device {
# NoiseBlaster 3000 42

# The below don't have digital in/out, so prevent them from being
opened.
Blue Snowball 999
Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 999
Logitech USB Headset 999
Logitech Web Camera 999
Logitech Wireless Headset 999
Plantronics USB Headset 999
Sennheiser USB headset 999
Plantronics Savi 7xx 999
}

restarted, and I have the same problem. I cannot scroll, click windows,
etc.

[Bug 406414] Re: pidgins appears multiple times in applications tab of sounds preferences

2012-06-29 Thread thijs van severen
running 10.4, pidgin 2.6.6 (audio method set to Auto)

whenever i watch a youtube video (in chrome) and pidgin generates a sound
during that movie i dont hear the pidgin sound until after i close the youtube
movie (or better, close the chrome tab the video was playing in)
once i close the youtube tab it seems that all the pidgin sounds get played all
at the same time (like they have been queued but had to wait for the youtube
video to stop first)

when i open the sound preference - application tab (while i am watching
the youtube vid) i can see the number of instances of pidgin increasing
(probably with every sound pidgin generates)

this issue also frequently mutes the sound of a video when i start it (it does
not mute the sound once the vid is playing)
to fix this i need to rewind the vid a couple of times and then the video
starts with sound

[Bug 1019245] [NEW] System Monitor graph fades when enlarging window size beyond a certain size.

2012-06-29 Thread Alfagulf
Public bug reported:

System Monitor graph fades when enlarging window size beyond a certain
size in Gnome-shell.

I noticed this issue only with ATI cards and when I am using Gnome3
(Gnome-shell).
I also noticed that glxgears report (300fps) substantially lower frame rate per
second in gnome-shell as appose to when using unity or gnome classic (8000fps).

The best way to understand the problem is to see the screen shot images that I
attach to this bug report.
If I decrease the System Monitor window to almost the minimum, then the graph
suddenly become good.
I noticed this problem even when I was using ubuntu 11.10 and now with 12.04.

I am using catalyst 2.14

[Bug 886327] Re: Nautilus window closes when unmounting currently explored filesystem

2012-06-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
however it appears that Ubuntu are awaiting for upstream to resolve
rather than spending any resource/time on the bug

right, we have over 10 000 desktop bugs open and less than 10 people
working on the corresponding set, let's say we fix a bug a day including
working the weekends, it would take 3 years to get to the bottom of that
list ... of course that's considering that no new bug is coming and we
would work every single day of the year, neither of those are true.

short version: we don't have enough manpower to fix every single bug

[Bug 886327] Re: Nautilus window closes when unmounting currently explored filesystem

2012-06-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
What gives you the impression that this action with Nautilus should be
a Wishlist?

it's sort of a feature request, but agree you can see it as a long
priority bug, the bottom line is that if the location you browse is
going away you can't keep browsing it, there are 3 ways out of it, close
the folder, display an error, or browser back somewhere else, they are
all valid solutions even if the closing can be confusing...

In a world where there are very few people actually own and use a Wacom

[Bug 1018806] Re: GVFS does not resolve to FQDN or IP address

2012-06-29 Thread Howard Williams
I get the following response:

$ host 192.168.1.20
20.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer dev.howardwilliams.com.

and still can not connect with gvfs-mount using ftp.

In my local machine (192.168.1.99) setup I needed to disabled the
network-manager dnsmasq resolver by commenting the option in the
NetworkManager.conf file and installing dnsmasq. I needed to do this
since I have a web server on my local network at 192.168.1.20 and need
to access the hosted web sites using their FQDNs. I have used this setup
in past versions of ubuntu (natty and lucid) successfully.

I have tried setting the network-manager config back to using the
packaged dnsmasq in precise and uninstalling dnsmasq, but it generates
the same errors in above posts.

[Bug 1018806] Re: GVFS does not resolve to FQDN or IP address

2012-06-29 Thread Howard Williams
I found the issue causing the error and it does relate to the proxy
settings when using 'auto'.

The configuration below contains org.gnome.system.proxy mode 'auto':

org.gnome.system.proxy autoconfig-url ''
org.gnome.system.proxy ignore-hosts ['localhost', '127.0.0.0/8']
org.gnome.system.proxy mode 'auto'
org.gnome.system.proxy use-same-proxy false
org.gnome.system.proxy.ftp host ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.ftp port 0
org.gnome.system.proxy.http authentication-password ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.http authentication-user ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.http enabled false
org.gnome.system.proxy.http host ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.http port 8080
org.gnome.system.proxy.http use-authentication false
org.gnome.system.proxy.https host ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.https port 0
org.gnome.system.proxy.socks host ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.socks port 0

When I change proxy settings to 'none', gvfs is able to resolve and
successfully mount the connection. In the configuration below, note that
org.gnome.system.proxy mode is now set to 'none':

org.gnome.system.proxy autoconfig-url ''
org.gnome.system.proxy ignore-hosts ['localhost', '127.0.0.0/8']
org.gnome.system.proxy mode 'none'
org.gnome.system.proxy use-same-proxy false
org.gnome.system.proxy.ftp host ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.ftp port 0
org.gnome.system.proxy.http authentication-password ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.http authentication-user ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.http enabled false
org.gnome.system.proxy.http host ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.http port 8080
org.gnome.system.proxy.http use-authentication false
org.gnome.system.proxy.https host ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.https port 0
org.gnome.system.proxy.socks host ''
org.gnome.system.proxy.socks port 0

It appears that this resolves the problem.

However, we can now only assume Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) installs with the
default proxy setting of 'auto', thus creating this bug.

Thanks again for the help!

[Bug 1019298] [NEW] image preview size is small and not well ordered

2012-06-29 Thread ilmondo
Public bug reported:

Hallo.

The ordering of the maximum preview size of icons and images in nautilus
is not like before:

If i make the maximum zoom/size of the icons all gets in one row and a
lot of space remains in full window mode (see first screenshot).

In lucid there was more reasonable spaceusing (i attach a screenshot of
dolphin to illustrate the difference)

How can i bring nautilus back in showing the icons in maximum size
(maybe also bigger than now is possibel) and to make it show using all
the empty space??

Thanks for reply

[Bug 1017382] Re: Multi-screen options failure under Gnome Classic

2012-06-29 Thread Bogo Nomicon
How to trigger.

***WARNING: Save everything before trying this.***

With a Gnome Classic session. There is a 4 screen multi screen selector
on the panel at the bottom of the screen organized as 2 rows of 2
screens. It has a preferences dialog acessable via a right click when
on an empty space on it. Bring it up. Notice that the number of rows
and screens are both 1 and don't match the layout and number of
multiscreens on the selector in the pannel. Just change the number of
screens to 8, leave the number of rows as 1, likely any number of
screens more than one will work. Notice you get a single row of screens
shown. Now click on any one of those screens shown other than the
currently active one. All of your windows will now vanish as well as
the dialog and pannels. Programs are still running. Contrl-Alt-F1 will
still bring up the text console you can use to login and kill -HUP
your Gnome Classic session. Altenately you can login over the net to do
the same.

Only workoround I've found sofar is not to change anything in that
dialog.

For an experiment I did a kill -HUP on gnome-panel rather than the
root of the login session and the panels came back, and then clicked on
one of the other multi-screens and the same vanishing issue happened
again. Also a second hangup killing and gnome-panel was gone.

[Bug 1008840] Re: Update to 3.5.4

2012-06-29 Thread Iain Lane
I did some work on updating to 3.5.4.

  lp:~laney/gnome-settings-daemon/3.5.4

Some outstanding issues

  - 61_unity_use_application_indicator.patch is large and doesn't apply, so
disabled
  - Lid close doesn't suspend
  - Compose key stopped working, which is possibly a larger problem with
layouts. May be fixed by upgrading g-c-c too (didn't do that).

Some patches misapplied when quilt refreshed. I caught everything I saw
but there is still a chance of leftovers.

** Summary changed:

- Update to 3.5.3

[Bug 994926] Re: empathy accounts not stored

2012-06-29 Thread Jeff Balderson
I believe this is a problem with AppArmor in 12.04. I've been using
this same setup for a while now, so I don't think it affects previous
versions.

In /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home, HOME is rigidly defined as /home/.
I put home in /u01/home, it meant that the apparmor profile for
Telepathy was broken.

It looks like the original reporter has a home directory of
/home/JOHNNYPARK/mhouse, which is similar to my case.

This means that the apparmor profile in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.telepathy:
/usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5 {
...
owner @{HOME}/.mission-control/ rw,
owner @{HOME}/.mission-control/**rw,
...
}

Won't cover home directories that don't fit the pattern of
/home/username

As a workaround for my case, I changed the HOMEDIRS definition to
@{HOMEDIRS}=/home/ /u01/home/ in /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home.

2012-06-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1019341] [NEW] Seahorse GUI does not display additional-identity email information on PGP keys

2012-06-29 Thread Thomas Ward
Public bug reported:

There seems to be a difference from 11.04 (which I last used). In
12.04, the PGP key system can have its keys handled via Seahorse. in
11.04, you could expand a key if it has multiple sub-identities and
email addresses on the key, or you could view the email addresses and
comments on that sub-identity, as well as see the primary key
information.

This is not the case in 12.04. While you can expand the key, you cannot
see what email addresses or comments are tied to those sub ids. This
makes adding additional emails/etc. to the keys, and determining which
one is the primary key. When you have two IDs on the same key, its not
a problem, but when you have three or four, it becomes troublesome.

--
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

(1) In 12.04, open seahorse.

(2) Go to Personal Keys

(3) Either create or import a complete key (including private keys),
where that key has multiple names and signatures on it.

(DO BOTH 4A AND 4B!)
(4a) Open the key's properties, go to the names and signatures tab. There
will be listed first names, but no email information or comments.

(4b) In the Personal Keys tab, you will see an arrow next to a multi-
name key. Click that to expand. You will see the other names on the
key, but no email information about those other names.

[Bug 994926] Re: empathy accounts not stored

2012-06-29 Thread Ken VanDine
This could very well be a side-effect of using non-standard paths for
homedirs. If you are going to change that, you do need to allow that by
editing the overrides for HOMEDIRS in:

  /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home.d/ubuntu

There are instructions in the file explaining what to do. This could
very well be causing other problems that perhaps are even going
unnoticed.

[Bug 1019364] [NEW] vinagre menu is hidden when host screen too smal

2012-06-29 Thread David Biesack
Public bug reported:

I ran vinagre 3.4.2 on a laptop running 1280x1024 resolution to connect to a
desktop that was running on 1600x1200 dual monitors at
an effective resolution of 3200x1200. The vinagre menu that is supposed to
appear at the top center of the display appears to be centered on the virtual
desktop, and this is not visible on my physical display.

Actually, when I put the mouse at the very top right, I can see a thin white
line which is the left most pixels of the menu
and I can move over that and click to exit full screen.

This menu should be centered on the host display, not centered on the
remote (virtual) display, so that it is always visible.
