hey Robert,

The answer is not yet. as there is the gsettings port, we need to wait
for the next compiz (hoping coming this week) with gsettings support,
and then, we will be able to update g-s-d and g-c-c with metacity in a
row without breaking anything!

[Bug 1020716] Re: apport does not report rhythmbox crash

2012-07-10 Thread Martin Pitt
For Quantal (the development release), crashes are submitted to
Launchpad just as they were before.

For the stable releases up to 11.10, apport crashes were disabled
entirely. Now they are enabled, but are only reported to
http://errors.ubuntu.com, not to Launchpad. It is not appropriate nor
feasible at all to report them to Launchpad.

[Bug 1022390] Re: Apps lock on default Ubuntu desktop. No problem with XUbuntu desktop.

2012-07-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

[Bug 1022946] [NEW] Tree item doesn't contract right after being expanded

2012-07-10 Thread Daniil Shved
Public bug reported:

I have attached a screenshot to better explain the situation. On the
screenshot you can see a Nautilus window showing my music folder. Some
of the subfolders are expanded, some are not. The Instrumental folder
is expanded. In fact, the screenshot shows the situation right after I
expanded this subfolder, and the mouse pointer is still over the
triangular arrow near the folder icon.

Now, the problems begin when I try to click on the triangular arrow
again. What I expect is that the Instrumental subfolder will contract,
and if I keep on clicking it should expand, then contract again, then
expand again, and so on. What happens in reality is nothing: I keep
clicking on the triangular arrow, but the subfolder just remains
expanded. However, if I move the mouse pointer just a little bit and
click on the arrow again - then the folder contracts as expected.

well, I didn't realize we were still shipping it and it seems like
something we might want to drop, but since you opened this bug it seems
you are using it, could you explain how it's useful to you? trying to
figure if dropping it would be an error if it's still being useful for
some users...

[Bug 1022962] [NEW] LXDE: Show Containing Folder button failed to execute err

2012-07-10 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS I get the following error whenever I use the File-Open
Containing Folder feature.
Could not open the containing folder.
Failed to execute child process pcmanfm (Permission denied)

This is precisely bug #864992, but for LXDE instead of Gnome.

The problem is fixed for LXDE (and presumably KDE and XFCE) by
replacing /usr/bin/nautilus Cx - sanitized_helper with the following
to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

  /usr/bin/nautilus Cx - sanitized_helper, #Gnome File Manager
  /usr/bin/pcmanfm Cx - sanitized_helper, #LXDE File Manager
  /usr/bin/krusader Cx - sanitized_helper, #KDE File Manager
  /usr/bin/thunar Cx - sanitized_helper, #XFCE File Manager

(and then running: sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor reload)

As with bug #864992 the chance of a regression is low, and it should not
increase the attack surface in the slightest unless pcmanfm, krusader or
thunar were installed (they wouldn't exist in a default Ubuntu install,
unless the user manually installed them, in which case the user probably
wants to be allowed to use them).

2012-07-10 Thread Doug McMahon
I would have to disagree with the reporter in upstream bug that the
issue stops when using nautilus 3.5.1 as supplied by Ubuntu. (At least
with the available hardware here there is no change at all, nor expected
any.

Also did rebuild gtk without_atk_bridge which also had no effect though that
may have been a semi-worthless endeavor
Also, as a side note, a straight up build of the current nautilus master also
fails in exact same manner

[Bug 976534] Re: Rhythmbox cummulates memory in precise - probably memory leak

2012-07-10 Thread Benjamin Herbert
I am affected with 11.10.

I just discovered that my Rhythmbox used 1.8 GB of memory.

I then killed it and started it again. I notice that skipping to or
playing a new song eats up memory. If I skip to a next song, about 25 MB
of memory are consumed and not properly released anymore. So if I click
on --| fast for four times in a row, around 100 MB are consumed without
one of the skipped songs is actually played. I will take a look with
another system, which has 12.04 installed.

I digged a little further in it and it seems that

[Bug 1018896] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_ui_manager_new_merge_id()

2012-07-10 Thread Doug McMahon
Would additionally like to note that if I disable nautilus from using the
Desktop then the constant crashing ceases
By default the option is Not enabled as seen in dconf-editor so it needs to be
enabled then disabled
(also found a full log out/in to be best

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons true
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false

there is no backtrace in those files you attached, not sure how you
followed the instructions but it but after running gdb you need to
either use continue or run (depending if you attached gdb to a

issue, then to type the backtrace

[Bug 516059] Re: Slow 3G/GPRS bluetooth connection with Sony Vaio laptop and SonyEricsson Z610i phone

2012-07-10 Thread Mio
I am not amused.
Anyway I am not in the position to check because I currently do not have a data
plan. But as soon as I get one or get a sim in my hands that has one I will
check it. I wouldn't be surprised if it still is like that since i checked
multiple time since I filed this bug though not on precise jet.
But this may take longer than the expiration period for incomplete bugs.

[Bug 1012789] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_device_manager_list_devices@plt()

2012-07-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
gnome-settings-daemon (3.4.2-0ubuntu5) quantal; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/10_smaller_syndaemon_timeout.patch: Update to increase
the size of the stack allocated array for the extra argument passed to
syndaemon. This fixes a crash in the PLT due to a corrupt %ebx register
(which holds the GOT base address on i386), which was caused in an earlier
function by writing zero in to the location on the stack where the value of
%ebx is saved. Thanks to Sebastien Bacher for spotting the buggy patch!

Re: [Bug 1020312] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashes immediately with an assertion error in xcb when it is started

2012-07-10 Thread Jan
It's a normal, local X session that comes up after bootup, using the
standard X server that comes with ubuntu 12.04.

The system is using an xorg.conf file to make it use the fbdev driver,
since it has a Poulsbo video chip for which only a 2d driver is available.
But the xorg.conf doesn't contain anything else interesting (I don't have
access to the system right now, so I can't attach it).

see that no solution as yet to be produced. Just giving an update on an

[Bug 1008840] Re: Update to 3.5.4

2012-07-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ok, I can confirm the XKB issue there, easy way to test is to run from the
build dir (keyboard panel subdir):
setxkbmap us; ./test-keyboard (instead of us pick a layout which is not
your default one, the code will not run if the default config matches the one
used)

the issue is not due to the indicator patch but to the revert_keyboard
one

reverting that commit fixes the issue:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon/commit/plugins/keyboard/gsd-keyboard-manager.c?id=42afa81cb2eba7b1b69fc60951f0b5cfc09ac45b

writing fixes because I get no indicator after that so I wonder if it
just makes the whole code not work...

will keep investigating tomorrow but that can give a start for somebody
else wanting to look at that
