[Bug 1015488] Re: Wrong theme of indicators menu
I already have gnome-menus installed but I still have a white indicator- message, indicator-sound and indicator-network. But, switching to Adwaita and switching back to Ambiance fixes the issue momentarily. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1023784 Title: nautilus segfaulting at 18 ip 7f887a426580 sp 7fff40b25a78 error 4 in libgtk-3.so.0.506.0[7f887a149000+4d1000] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1023784/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1023839] [NEW] nautilus add additional leading slash
Public bug reported: In some cases Nautilus adds an additional leading slash to file path which makes some programs fail (libreoffice for example). Seems to be related to remote files mounted via smbnetfs. When I double click on some file it doesn't open, libreoffice just closes without any message. If I drag some file from nautilus to gnome-terminal I can see that an additional slash is added. for example: this file path: '/home/muzzol/NetSMB/networking/test.odt' is converted to: '//home/muzzol/NetSMB/networking/test.odt' and libreoffice fails to open it. Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 9.10 reached End Of Live on October 23, 2010. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases I have tried to reproduce with the latest developer version of Ubuntu, but could not. Please upgrade to the latest stable version(12.04) and re-test. If the bug is still reproducable, increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again. There should under the menu point actualization some entries about notifications. Set them all to the shortest times available. The last entrie there should be something like notify about newer ubuntu versions. Apply this changes and reload your package sources : e.g synaptic relaod or update manager(Software updates). You should after this get a notification(try a bit arround until the sytem recognize) about a release upgrade from the update-manager(may be called Software updates). Run this. !Make first a backup of your system!(e.g. dejadub) The upgrades has become more and more stable in the last years, but the procedure is a complicated one for the software and may under circumstances render your system unbootable. [Bug 977866] Re: no sound while playing music from a gvfs mounted samba share
I've done some more digging. Using the gstreamer debugging options, I've at least identified a difference between totem and rhythmbox here. I can see totem somehow translates the smb:// url to the fuse mount path and just uses the filesrc gstreamer source element to read the file (and can successfully play it): 0:00:00.722405619 2515 0x7ffd6bfd3730 INFO filesrc gstfilesrc.c:374:gst_file_src_set_location: filename : /home/john/.gvfs/music on lion/Music/Therapy/Therapy - Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3 0:00:00.722418749 2515 0x7ffd6bfd3730 INFO filesrc gstfilesrc.c:375:gst_file_src_set_location: uri : file:///home/john/.gvfs/music%20on%20lion/Music/Therapy/Therapy%20-%20Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3 rhythmbox doesn't use the fuse mount - instead using the gio_src gstreamer source element. It appears to be continue reading it fine, though as explained above the output goes silent after about 1 or 2 seconds. 0:00:01.292036091 2468 0xf8c8d0 DEBUGgio_src gstgiosrc.c:335:gst_gio_src_get_stream:source opened location smb://lion/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy%20-%20Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3 But I can have gstreamer play the file successfully using giosrc using gst-launch: gst-launch-0.10 giosrc location=smb://lion/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy - Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3 ! flump3dec ! autoaudiosink I've attached debug logs of my gst-launch and the rhythmbox commands attempting to play the same file - using the options GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG=gio_src:5,gio_base_src:5,basesrc:5,gnomevfs:5,filesrc:5 There are some differences between the two, but I'm not sure what is relevant. In particularly, one appears to be in push mode and one pull. They both read the file in 4k chunks, but rhythmbox does it from a weird initial offset for some reason (perhaps due to it reading metadata info though). Nothing obviously conclusive to me though. ** Attachment added: gst-launch-and-rhythmbox-debug-logs.tar.gz https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/977866/+attachment/3221312/+files/gst-launch-and-rhythmbox-debug-logs.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/977866 Title: no sound while playing music from a gvfs mounted samba share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/977866/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 994612] Re: gnome-screensaver-preferences missing
I posted some details on this in a comment at http://askubuntu.com/questions/59577/replace-xscreensaver-with-gnome- screensaver-xubuntu before finding this. The article details on how to deal with it in 11.10 and how the solution doesn't work (because gnome-screensaver-preferences is missing) in 12.04. It would seem that a fix for 12.04, which is an LTS after all, would be easy and worth doing. I'd do it (port the gnome-screensaver-preferences script) myself but I'd have to learn enough python first; I wish I had time for that. My comment gets you to where gnome-screensaver is at least running and locking the screen off the user submenu (top right).
