[Bug 1032500] [NEW] Natural scrolling not working in Empathy contact list window

2012-08-03 Thread Matteo Landi
Public bug reported:

I am an owner of a Apple Magic Trackpad and I configured Xmodmap in
order to enable natural scrolling with the following line:

pointer = 1 2 3 5 4 7 6 8 9 10 11 12

I noticed that even if it works as expected inside a chat window, the
same can not be said for the contact list: in such window, swiping
fingers upside-down makes the scrollbar move to the bottom instead of to
the top.

If in need of more information/logs, please ask me.

[Bug 827049] Re: add bookmark is broken in oneiric's nautilus

2012-08-03 Thread arne
DnD folders the bookmarks section doesn't work for me either in 12.04. I
do have some bookmarks present already. No errors in .xsession-errors

 @ Rocko (rockorequin) wrote on 2012-03-03:
 For me, it is not at all obvious that you have to actually be in the folder
 you are trying to bookmark
 with the menu Add Bookmark option, because normally I select a folder with
 the mouse and use
 dnd, so (naturally?) I expected the menu option to work on the currently
 selected folder. So yes,
 the behaviour of the menu option is confusing.

Not sure if this is the recommended place to do so, but I would like to
add that that bookmarking behaviour was not at all obvioius to me
either. I kept wondering why my Home dir kept being added to the
bookmarks, instead of the selected folder IN my home dir that I tried
adding to bookmarks...

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-08-03 Thread anders
I am now using the nvidia driver again because the PC gets very hot when using
the nouveau driver (power management is not implemented so it always runs at
100%).
It appears that the shutdown issue is only present in version 295.49 of the
nvidia driver. Version 173.14.35 is working but has other issues regarding
resume from suspend and changing from console to X (ctrl-alt-f7).

[Bug 1032569] [NEW] keyboard switching applet does not update /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd

2012-08-03 Thread b1

Switching the keyboard layout via system-settings-keyboard-layout updates the
file /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd accordingly:

gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = [us,de]
 options = [terminate   terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,lv3 lv3:ralt_switch,grp
grp:alts_toggle]
 model = pc105
# switching layouts
gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = [de,us]
 options = [terminate   terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,lv3 lv3:ralt_switch,grp
grp:alts_toggle]
 model = pc105

(Note the different order in layouts = [])Switching the keyboard via the
keyboard applet in the indicator panel does not update the kbd file

gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = [us,de]
 options = [terminate   terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,lv3 lv3:ralt_switch,grp
grp:alts_toggle]
 model = pc105
# switching layouts
gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = [us,de]
 options = [terminate   terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,lv3 lv3:ralt_switch,grp
grp:alts_toggle]
 model = pc105

although the keyboard layout is changed. This breaks some scripts, which
need to determine the current keyboard layout.

2012-08-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Ubuntu 12.04 64bits when an application is open.
Open a second file that can be openend by the same application and the file
brower keeps focus and not the opened file/window/application

Reproduce:
Open a file (for example a picture)
1) The application opens and has focus
2) Go back to the file browser window
3) Click on a other file, window opens but does not have focus
4) go back to the file browser window and open an already openend file, noting
happens and does not grab focus.
See the video included for these steps.
It happens with the applications in the same way, (gedit, EOG). It workes ok

[Bug 1021293] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 install stalls when doing apt-get upgrade

2012-08-03 Thread Colin Watson
ubiquity/quantal fixed a while back:

ubiquity (2.11.18) quantal; urgency=low

  * Don't bother keeping track of keyboard model names and identifiers, as
nothing in ubiquity uses them right now.
  * Fix reversed uses of methods mapping between keyboard layout/variant IDs
and human-readable names, and improve method naming and documentation to
make this mistake less likely in future (LP: #1027207, #1027620).
  * Automatic update of included source packages: debian-installer-utils
1.91ubuntu3, flash-kernel 3.0~rc.4ubuntu9, netcfg 1.68ubuntu15.

ThinkPad T430s.
This is not Medium Since the system goes into shut-down without any
interaction and causes loss of data in the process.

Let alone this is one of the dumbest oversights of g-p-m, even the
acpitool can detect the total battery left.

[Bug 1032500] Re: Natural scrolling not working in Empathy contact list window

2012-08-03 Thread Matteo Landi
Right now I can not create a video nor share my desktop so I will try to
explain the problem in more details.

Imagine to have a vanilla Ubuntu, you open a terminal and type dmesg.
If you have a trackpad with double fingers scrolling enabled and you
want to see what dmesg printed first, you need to place two fingers at
the bottom of the trackpad and swipe them to the top.

Now, if you want to enable natural scrolling (i.e. swipe top-down to
scroll a page up, like in smartphones or tablets), you can for example
use Xmodmap and use that settings contained in the bug description.

If you open again a terminal and try to follow the steps presented
above, you will notice that to scroll the terminal up, you will have to
swipe top-down. That means hich means that the Xmodmap setting has been
properly honored by gnome-terminal.

Now back to the Empathy problem: once you enable natural scrolling, it
works properly inside chat windows only: if you open the contact list,
place the scrollbar at the top and try to swipe bottom-up to reach the
bottom of the list, you won't notice any scrollbar movement. On the
other hand, if you swipe top-down, the scrollbar starts to move to the
bottom of the contact list as if the Xmodmap setting was not honored at
all.

Let me know if this description shed some light on the problem.

[Bug 1032680] [NEW] Send To function replaces spaces in file name with 0s and consequently cannot find the file when attempting to email it

2012-08-03 Thread Geoffrey van Wyk
Public bug reported:

Evince 3.4 on Ubuntu 12.04

When I try to email a PDF with spaces in the file name, Evince tells me that
the file does not exist and so could not be attached.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open the PDF file with spaces in the file name, e.g. GNOME Rules.pdf, with
Evince.

2) In Evince, click the File menu. On the file menu click Send To... item. The
Send To dialog appears.

3) On the Send To dialog, in the Destination section, Email will be selected in
the Send as: dropdown list. In the Send to: textbox, enter a valid email
address.

4) On the Send To dialog, click the Send button.

Actual results:
The File Attach error message will appear, stating that the PDF file you were
trying to send does not exist and so could not be attached.

In the File Attach dialog you will notice that spaces in the file name have
been replaced by 0s. This is the reason why the program cannot find the file.

Expected results:
A new email message composing window from the default email client should
appear, with the email address entered in to Send To dialog appearing in the To
field, and with the PDF document attached.

Upstream bug report:
I also filed the bug on GNOME's bugzilla. The bug report number is 681144.

[Bug 900324] Re: apparmor profile provides too much access

2012-08-03 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
Unfortunately, evince needs access to the X server. Since apparmor
doesn't yet support XACE or equivalent this means that evince can still
launch keylogging and keyspoofing attacks. I think our first priority
should be stopping evince from sending keypresses to a terminal in the
background (which is is on the roadmap for apparmor I understand). Once
we do that we can think about fixing this bug right, e.g. using the
LD_PRELOAD trick Plash uses to replace the GTK file/open save dialog box
with one that passes the rights to the file the user selects (and only
the file the user selects).

[Bug 1032812] Re: evince crashes on invoking print dialog

2012-08-03 Thread Jamie Strandboge
This looks to be a result of the AppArmor profile:
Aug  3 12:22:50 cpbl-thinkpad kernel: [ 3642.457504] type=1400
audit(1344010970.542:28): apparmor=DENIED operation=mknod parent=1
profile=/usr/bin/evince name=/altos/tmp/gtkprint_ppd_RWE5HW pid=4689
comm=evince requested_mask=c denied_mask=c fsuid=1001 ouid=1001

Granted, evince should not crash, but it looks like you are using a
non-standard location for your files (maybe your TMPDIR is set to /altos/tmp?).
I suggest you add this to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince:
  owner /altos/tmp/**  rwkl,
  owner /altos/tmp/rw,

Then perform:
$ sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

Please report back if this works for you.

imagine it was a recent update...

[Bug 1032833] [NEW] Nautilus preferences: sort-directories-first should be enabled by default

2012-08-03 Thread Doug McMahon
Public bug reported:

The main reason being it's what previous Ubuntu/nautilus users are
expecting/used to is a bit 'cleaner'
Additional reasons to consider are it's no a menu or gui pref's option so only
can be changed in dconf (editor or gsettings) which won't be apparent to most
users.
Those wishing to have set to false will likely know how to do so

While only a 1 word source edit could just as well be done in the
nautilus.gschema.override, i'd suspect adding this would suffice.

[Bug 1032812] Re: evince crashes on invoking print dialog

2012-08-03 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Thanks! for your detective work.

TMPDIR is still /tmp, but

ls -la /tmp

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root root   10 Aug  2 16:07 tmp - /altos/tmp/

Yes, your solution works. Thank you!!

So, is the crashing experience a bug? Maybe I leave that for you to
decide.

Atm transmageddon does work in 12.10 when adjusted per the above bug report

[Bug 787039] Re: Python 3 Doc not show in Devhelp

The problem is in tag name in python3.2.devhelp.gz and python2.7.devhelp.gz,
this is the same: Python; and DevHelp use the major version (this case
python3-doc).
A solution is change the tag name to: Python2 and Python3 respectively.

[Bug 1032892] [NEW] Loading addressbook summary very slow with cached online addressbook

2012-08-03 Thread John Pye
Public bug reported:

I've got a CardDAV addressbook stored in the free 'fruux' service and
I've set up Evolution to use it to store my addresses. But it's very
slow when writing emails. If I write the person's name in the 'to' box,
it's very slow to recognise the name and add an underline to indicate
it's been recognised. If I click the 'to' button and attempt to search
for a name, the bottom of the dialog shows Loading address book
summary and it takes 10-20 seconds until the my search result appears.

I'm using a slow (3G phone) internet connection, but I have the address
book set with copy book content locally for offline operation.
However, it appears that when I'm on a *slow* connection, it ignores the
local copy and keeps using the online copy regardless.

Is there some way that this situation could be improved, so that the
online content is only synchronised periodically, and not every time I
add an email address to a new email?

I'm using latest Evolution 3.2.3 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

[Bug 945987] Re: No Settings are available in Preferred format, only preset defaults are used

2012-08-03 Thread Doug McMahon
