[Bug 1044974] [NEW] Rhythmbox hangs with stupid alert box when syncing iPod

2012-09-02 Thread Cefn
Public bug reported:

Having deleted all the songs from my iPod Touch 16GB I was trying to put
another 10GB of songs back on.

Wasn't optimistic, thanks to Apple's obfuscated protocols, and sure
enough about a half hour later the whole thing had hung, with a blank
alert box and a greyed out screen. The music I was playing went on for a
bit, but even that has stopped now.

Screenshot attached below, and no, I didn't want 50 copies of Texas Put
your arms around me. Please don't take this as a sign of my musical
tastes. It was a test run with my girlfriend's music and clearly a bug
that it is somehow writing so many of the same track to the iPod, or
maybe a visual glitch.

Hopefully apport has attached relevant PID information now, so I'm going
to force quit it and try again.

[Bug 1044974] Re: Rhythmbox hangs with stupid alert box when syncing iPod

2012-09-02 Thread Cefn
Eventually, (after 5 minutes or so) the attached screenshot appears,
indicating that the fact the iPod is still plugged in is triggering the
same or a related latent bug.

[Bug 1044974] Re: Rhythmbox hangs with stupid alert box when syncing iPod

2012-09-02 Thread Cefn
Attempting to unmount, kill nautilus or force-unplug the iPod had no
effect, so I ran

ps aux | grep gvfs | awk '{print $2;}' | xargs -n1 sudo kill -9

...which killed the iPod mount and caused Rhythmbox's hanging on blank
alert box behaviour to resolve itself.

It's offered to reinitialise my iPod. It has no models in the list of
possible models, but I gave it a name and clicked on initialise anyway.
My library seems to be intact now it's actually loaded. I'll see what's
happened to the iPod eventually.

[Bug 1044974] Re: Rhythmbox hangs with stupid alert box when syncing iPod

2012-09-02 Thread Cefn
When it offered to initialise my iPod the device was no longer
connected, as it turns out. The iPod has songs on it, and can be
browsed through Rhythmbox as long as I don't try to copy files onto it.

Checking the filesystem with Baobab shows that it indeed has about 3.6
Gig of songs, and is not full, (i.e. plenty of space before the 16GB
limit)

cefn@cefn-precise-dell:~/.gvfs/Cefn’s iPod$ df .

[Bug 939301] Re: Chromium and gnome-keyring, no username or password

2012-09-02 Thread Augie Schwer
From: http://karuppuswamy.com/wordpress/2010/06/18/enter-password-to-

What I did was to remove the old keystore with:
killall -9 gnome-keyring-daemon
rm -fr ~/.gnome2/keyrings

and then on the first prompt to enter a new keyring password, i.e. when
starting Chrome, I simply press enter, a warning appears asking 'Use insecure
storage?', where I press enter one more time. From now on, you won't be asked
about passwords anymore.
And yes, this is insecure; if you are paranoid, don't do it.

[Bug 194199] Re: no text in terminal

2012-09-02 Thread chris_c
I'll add this here as I found this when googling the problem myself

In for example xlde, when using the default use system colours its
ends up rendering black on black, select your own colour scheme and
you're good to go.

(this was in Ubuntu 12.04) I would consider this a bug

[Bug 1045166] [NEW] Sometimes gnome-terminal does not paint characters on the screen.

2012-09-02 Thread Collin Stocks
Public bug reported:

Behaviour: Sometimes gnome-terminal does not repaint the screen
correctly after the text has changed.

This happens in only a few specific cases that I have encountered, yet
happens fairly reliably in those cases. I have not been able to track
down exactly what situations in general reveal this bug, but I have been
able to reproduce it reliably with the following steps:

1) Create a gnome-terminal window which is 80x24. Other sizes may work
as well, but it is important that the number of rows is fewer than the
number of lines in the attached test script.

2) Run the attached test script in the terminal.

What should happen: The screen should be reset, then the program should
be output, then after a 1 second delay, the screen should be reset and
the program should be output.

What happens: The second time the program is printed out, the screen is
not painted correctly.

I am running 12.04.1 Precise, x86-64. I first encountered this problem
at least two versions ago. I have encountered it on two different
computers, both using the proprietary nvidia driver.

The bug occurs whether or not a compositor is used, and whether or not
transparency is turned on in gnome-terminal. Based on this, I doubt that
the problem is the nvidia driver.

[Bug 1045168] [NEW] gnome-panel moves when open trash shortcut

2012-09-02 Thread Michael Lerro
Public bug reported:

1. Log into Ubuntu 12.04 using Gnome Classic
2. Use the Alt-Rightclick context menu on the bottom panel, select Add to Panel
and add a Trash icon in the bottom right where the trash icon used to exist in
Ubuntu 10.04 etc.
3. Alt-Rightclick the bottom panel again and select Properties, unselect the
Expand checkbox so that the panel shrinks when programs close and expands when
programs are started.
4. Click the trash icon in the bottom right of the panel.

The panel will now be stuck to the mouse pointer and move with it, as
though you have clicked the far left or far right side of the panel and
held down the mouse to move it. To unstick it you have to move your
mouse to the centre bottom of the screen and click one of the sides to
move it again.

This happens every time you open the trash from the panel.

I can provide screenshots etc. if anyone can't follow the instructions
above.

Thanks

3.10.2+debian-11 dbgsym version 3.10.2+debian-10ubuntu1
outdated debug symbol package for libecryptfs0: package version 100-0ubuntu1
dbgsym version 96-0ubuntu3
outdated debug symbol package for module-init-tools: package version
3.16-1ubuntu3 dbgsym version 3.16-1ubuntu2
outdated debug symbol package for initscripts: package version
