[Bug 1108104] Re: [raring] Portable Players - MTP Rhythmbox plugin not working, can't sync music with Android device
This has always been a problem. You can't have two MTP clients talking to one device at the same time. Rhythmbox tries to talk directly at the same time as gvfs and two stomp on each other. It was hard to notice before because gvfs would simply fail to connect at all using the gphoto2 backend, and rhythmbox will fail too as it doesn't use the mtp API in an android-safe way either. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1108104 Title: [raring] Portable Players - MTP Rhythmbox plugin not working, can't sync music with Android device To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/1108104/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1104798] Re: Keyboard shortcut for search has changed.
Well, I found out what happened, as I stumbled upon both the problem and the fix just a couple minutes ago. Apparently gedit lets you edit what the keyboard shortcuts for commands are, and the help files doesn't say a thing about it (I did look for such a feature, and I didn't find it). How you do that is if you hold Alt+'underlined letter of menu' (F for File, E for Edit, V for View, S for Search, T for Tools, D for Documents, and H for Help) it opens the menu and then you can either press the underlined letter for the specific command you want or use the arrow keys to navigate through the menus. If you have a command highlighted you can press 'Backspace' to erase the existing keyboard shortcut (if it has one) and then you can input a new keyboard shortcut for it. I was just doing some rapid fire pasting (Yes, I still use the alt shortcuts for that rather than the others.) and hit 'Backspace' twice before 'Escape' to exit it and then a bit later noticed I'd inadvertently erased and changed the shortcut. Good news, it isn't a bug, but an undocumented feature that caused the problem. Bad news, despite the rather long list of people watching this bug I accidentally found the fix myself, and what exactly was happening, before anyone who might be involved in creating updates for gedit was able to post what the problem was. As a moderate request, could it get expedited that the feature gets added to gedit's offline help files? I don't know if it'll make a difference for anyone else, but I doubt it could hurt. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1104798 Title: Keyboard shortcut for search has changed. [Bug 1108637] Re: backspace key no longer works in nautilus
Firefox on Linux also uses Alt+← to go back instead of Backspace. It has the advantage of symmetry with Alt + → for Forward and prevents accidentally going Back a page when all you intended to do was delete the previous character in a form but your focus was on the wrong spot. With Nautilus 3.6's quick search I think it would be a bit more difficult to have Backspace do two different actions (which is itself non-intuitive). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1108637 Title: backspace key no longer works in nautilus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1108637/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1108637] Re: backspace key no longer works in nautilus
Hmm. I also set my Firefox and chrome up to match their default configuration on all other OS's, ie so that backspace works as the back key (in FF it's just setting browser.backspace_action = 0, but in chrome you need a plugin). I just find it much more convenient than having to search for two keys to press. My guess is that upstream will say the same thing regarding the backspace key - that it doesn't mesh nicely with the way quick search is implemented when you go back - but IMO it's a real pity they've done it this way, as I find it much slower to use nautilus now, both in that that 'back' takes you into the previous quick search, which you then have to cancel to see the whole contents of the folder, and in that backspace doesn't do anything any more. (And in that you can't right- click off away from file name to get the 'New Folder' context menu, which was something they introduced in nautilus 3.4 as an improvement and have now taken away again.) Of course, a good solution would be to make all this configurable - but this doesn't match gnome's philosophy of reducing configuration and usability :) wherever possible. As a workaround, Dolphin supports backspace to go back and is generally a much better file manager than nautilus, both in usability and in number of features. (It's just a pity that kioclient isn't as capable as the gvfs tools for when you're trying to integrate scripts with a GUI file manager.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1108637 Title: backspace key no longer works in nautilus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1108637/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1010349] Re: Evolution address book inaccessible without killing one time e-addressbook-factory
I have had this problem for some time using Thunderbird. I have a Google addressbook that I cannot remember creating. After reading these posts (especially killing e-addressbook-factory) I seemed to have solved it for me (a Thunderbird user). The Google address book dates back to the time I used evolution. So here is what I understand of the problem: The Google address book would always be empty (after opening Thunderbird and getting the message). But I could not delete it. After killing e-addressbook-factory and re-opening Thunderbird, the message was gone and the Google address book was filled. I could still not delete it though, because Thunderbird does not allow deleting a gnome- contacts folder (short version of message after trying to delete it). Even though I am not using evolution any more and have uninstalled it, evolution-data-server (package) was still installed and the gnome- contacts depends on it. However, I have always used Thunderbird for my contacts, so uninstalling evolution-data-server together with gnome- contacts would not seem to affect me. So how do I sync contacts with Google? Simple - I use Zindus Thunderbird plugin (and have been since I installed Thunderbird). This allows you to pick an addressbook to sync - in my case Personal Address Book. So I really do not need to have a Google address book in any case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1010349 Title: Evolution address book inaccessible without killing one time e -addressbook-factory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution-data-server/+bug/1010349/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
