It still exists in unity-2d and will never be fixed as unity-2d is no longer supported since ubuntu 12.10 (see comment #343). * This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to earlier releases as well. For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012 unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1). Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the window. If not, you are stuck with the 1px border. Workaround: NONE KNOWN (see comment 320)? * *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04: https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection- dx-n-resizing-windows Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications; doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this during the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs. 2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow resize on all sides. * Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa : https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtk * Workaround for Compiz/Unity: Alt+Middlemousebutton resizes a window most comfortably. Workaround: Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity- theme-1.xml. Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as desired: distance name=left_width value=3/ distance name=right_width value=3/ distance name=bottom_height value=3/ Binary package hint: metacity - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The result is that I get a lot of misses when I try to drag a window border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an invisible region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System Preferences Windows dialog (although the default thickness should still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity team). [Bug 1102042] [NEW] Open and Save dialogs descends down into sub directory if the selected directory has one sub directory
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When selecting a directory that has one sub-directory, the open dialog descends down into the sub-directory. 1. Make this exact folder structure: ~/a-dir/b-dir/ (only one sub-directory in a-dir, a-dir can have files) 2. Open the Open dialog and double-click on the a-dir in your Home folder and click Open I expect the a-dir to be selected, but b-dir is selected in stead. In the attached video you can see the a-dir being open, but the selection clearly uses b-dir instead. 3. Reopen the Open dialog and double-click on the a-dir 4. Type ./ in the Open dialog’s location field The input in the edit field is automatically changed to ./a-dir/b-dir/. The only way I have found to actually select the a-dir is to press backspace once after completing step 4. Similar behavior can be seen in the simplified dialog (e.g. when selecting destination for newly opened torrent files in Transmission). Ubuntu 12.10. Programs affected gedit, transmission, gnome-screenshot, others. ** Affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: Confirmed ** Tags: quantal -- Open and Save dialogs descends down into sub directory if the selected directory has one sub directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1102042 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1108637] Re: backspace key no longer works in nautilus
Some information from the upstream bug: it turns out that it is configurable - the way to restore the backspace key functionality is to add: (gtk_accel_path Actions/ShellActions/Up BackSpace) to ~/.config/nautilus/accels. It's obviously a pain to have to do this manually for every Ubuntu installation, but at least it makes nautilus more user-friendly again. The upstream bug is flagged as resolved due to being a duplicate of what is actually not a duplicate bug, so I doubt upstream will take any further action. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1108637 Title: backspace key no longer works in nautilus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1108637/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Did you consider suggesting to the customer to just change the default-monitors-setup gsettings key from 'do-nothing' to 'dock'. The schemas documentation says: 'dock' will switch off the internal monitor The current behaviour is not acceptable, and should be updated to be suitable. [Bug 1065979] Re: external/internal monitors mirrored on boot when laptop lid is closed
The upstream code has changed this behaviour. The patch reflects the upstream behaviour closely. Right, the upstream change is also a regression, in the lucid cycle we set up a boot target of 10s on a mini 10v config, xrandr was taking some 1.5 seconds ... that's a 15% slowdown of the whole machine boot time for no good reason, I don't see a reason why we shouldn't consider that as an issue I'm going to discuss that upstream but until then I suggest that people who have specific scenario that requires xinerama by default change the default key Note that in the scenario boot a laptop closed with lid closed I would argue that the bug is that the kernel/xorg stack, the laptop screen should be declared as active since it's not, the low level should only list on screen on and we wouldn't have any mirror issue to start with -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065979 Title: external/internal monitors mirrored on boot when laptop lid is closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1065979/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1080656] Re: bluetooth-wizard crashes when the name of a discovered device is NULL
I believe am seeing the same problem trying to pair a Microsoft Bluetooth Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 as it shows just the hw address, and if I select it, it crashes. Also interesting to note this device I believe has no PIN, though not sure if that matters. I have attached the backtrace (hopefully I did this correctly.) [Bug 1083644] Re: Palimpsest does not support gparted GPT
You are right. Disk Utility in the current version (see below) from Linux Mint 12.10 does not have this problem. But maybe it has something to do with the policy of only allowing LUKS to be formatted with EXT4. That is the only option. After that's done, you have to select the unlocked EXT4 partition to format it as something else, e.g. NTFS. Sorry for getting back so late but it is not every day that I have a spare 4TB drive to format. $ sudo apt-cache show gnome-disk-utility Package: gnome-disk-utility Priority: optional Section: admin Installed-Size: 880 Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com Original-Maintainer: Utopia Maintenance Team pkg-utopia-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org Architecture: amd64 Version: 3.6.1-0ubuntu1 Depends: libc6 (= 2.7), libcairo2 (= 1.2.4), libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (= 2.22.0), libglib2.0-0 (= 2.31.18), libgtk-3-0 (= 3.5.8), libpango1.0-0 (= 1.18.0), libpwquality1 (= 1.1.0), libsecret-1-0 (= 0.7), libudisks2-0, dconf-gsettings-backend | gsettings-backend, udisks2 Pre-Depends: dpkg (= 1.15.7.2) Filename: pool/main/g/gnome-disk-utility/gnome-disk-utility_3.6.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb Size: 180382 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1083644 Title: Palimpsest does not support gparted GPT To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1083644/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1112066] [NEW] Ripping: Specifying the Album artist does not copy it to all tracks
Public bug reported: to reproduce: - Insert a CD that is not detected by musicbrainz service. All tracks are Unknown Artist Track 01 and such. - Specify the Album Genre (you'll notice the genre is applied to all tracks). - Specify the Album Artist. what is expected: - The artist name is applied to all tracks that don't have an artist specified, just like genre. what actually happens: - Nothing: artist is not updated, forcing the user to add it manually.
