[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2013-02-28 Thread Paddy Landau
@cousteaulecommandant — Shouldn't temporary files be created in /tmp
rather than $HOME?

That depends on whether the contents are potentially private. As this is
related to .Xauthority, according to nicolas-m-le-zer0, these files
should go to the user's home folder.

the files. Log on to Ubuntu as a guest and you'll find the complete

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2013-02-28 Thread Paddy Landau
@rpr-nospam — thanks for the clarification. I am aware of the
permissions ability, but it is further improved if the user uses
encryption on his home folder. Anyway, that is probably suitable for a
separate discussion.

Regarding comment #105 by @nicolas-m-le-zer0, I have been automatically
removing .Xauthority (via a logout script) when logging out since I read
that comment. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem. The
.goutputstream* files were still being created and left in the home
folder. I have reverted to deleting the .goutputstream* files in the

[Bug 643337] Re: printer job fails with /usr/lib/cups/backend/ipselect failed

2013-02-28 Thread Stephane Deparis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 620751 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/620751

I'm experiencing the same bug in ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS, on an IBM network also.
When trying to print any pdf using Evince 3.4.0 (using poppler/cairo 0.18.4),
the job status indicates held forever, and the job-printer-state-message
indicates /usr/lib/cups/backend/ipselect failed.
The only way to print a pdf for me, is to use Adobe Reader 9, which is annoying.

[Bug 1135995] Re: Update poppler to 0.22.1

2013-02-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for the bug report and the work.

Did you check that all the rdepends build fine with the new version or
will patching be needed over the archive? (we often have issues with
cups and such)

With the archive work done this cycle the only way for a soname change
to land the archive is to have all its reverse-depends transition, are
you wanting to help on getting the transition through if it's started?

What's the main motivation for the update? We should better evaluate the
cost/benefit ratio at this point of the cycle before starting a
transition

[Bug 1135995] Re: Update poppler to 0.22.1

2013-02-28 Thread Rohan Garg
Hi Sebastien
I am afraid I have not checked, is there a way I can do that? ( Some automated
script that I can run ) . I would indeed require help with the transition,
which is one of the reasons I filed a bug to track this so I get more pointers
on how to do this the right way :)

The motivation being this bug :
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315031

I talked to upstream and they've asked me to update to the latest
poppler.

[Bug 1135995] Re: Update poppler to 0.22.1

2013-02-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
There is no standard tools for those transitions

you can basically
- run apt-cache rdepends libpoppler28 or look at
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/germinate-output/ubuntu.raring/rdepends/poppler/libpoppler-dev
 to have an idea of the software concerned
- apt-get source those sources
- try to rebuild them

we might look at updating poppler but those are usually non trivial transition
and need plannification and time

Hi!

Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat reached EOL on April 10, 2012.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

If there is a bug here it may already have been fixed in a later release
but that change won't affect the version of Ubuntu you're using. If this
still is a problem for you I recommend that you post a question
https://answers.launchpad.net/ ,or join a forum (warmly recommended!)

[Bug 1116281] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in empathy_account_widget_apply_and_log_in()

2013-02-28 Thread Jakub Budiský
Additional details:
--

This bug occurs with empathy's account-plugin-* , (which require to fill
up credentials). With account-plugin-* based on web authentication,
everything seems to be ok.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open System Settings -- Online accounts
2. Try to add some of these accounts: aim, icq, jabber, yahoo (possibly also
gadugadu, irc, mxit, myspace, salut, sametime, sip, zephyr)
3a. You can see there are fields for account details missing. If not, and
everything seems ok, I found out how to reproduce this bug === proceed to 3b.
3.b Fill up credentials and open Empathy. Then try to remove added account and
try to add it again. The fields are missing now. Sometimes this is fixed
again after system restart.
4. Click on Cancel or Done. You will experience this crash.

Even if you can fill up informations (see 3b), plugins, at least icq,
does not seem to be working.

I have rebuilt and installed empathy and gnome-control-center from
source with GCC -g flag (with debugging symbols) and reproduced crash.
This is at least top of stacktrace with more informations:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

[Bug 1136542] [NEW] g_unix_mount_points_get() won't work in a LXC container unless /etc/fstab is set

2013-02-28 Thread Matt Fischer
Public bug reported:

Seen on several versions of glib2 and Ubuntu:
12.10 - amd64
libglib2.0-0:amd64  2.34.1-1ubuntu1

12.04 armhf
libglib2.0-0  2.32.3-0ubuntu1

g_unix_mount_points_get() returns an empty list when run inside an LXC
container. I think this is because it reads /etc/fstab to gather mount
info instead of reading /proc/mounts. This means that for LXC
containers, it will fail using a default container, returning no mount
points. There are other cases where fstab is neither complete up to date
or accurate and I think that reading mounts would make more sense. Below
is a repro case.

/* gcc -g -ggdb -o dt dt.c `pkg-config --cflags --libs glib-2.0
libgtop-2.0 gio-2.0 gio-unix-2.0` */

/* g_unix_mount_points_get() - returns empty set inside a container */

#include glib.h
#include gio/gio.h
#include gio/gunixmounts.h
#include stdio.h
#include stdlib.h

int main(void) {
  GList*points;
  GList*p;
  points = g_unix_mount_points_get (NULL);
  if (points == NULL) {
  printf(no mounts found!);
  }
  for (p = points; p != NULL; p = p-next)
{
  GUnixMountEntry *mount = p-data;
  const char *mount_path;

  mount_path = g_unix_mount_get_mount_path (mount);
  printf(Found a mount: %s\n, mount_path);
}
  g_list_free (points);
}

[Bug 1133663] Re: Extract Here fails to preserve timestamps for non-empty folders

2013-02-28 Thread Ernie 07
Great Idea Sebastian

This bug is 100% reproducible.
However, my attempt at filing a report via Bugzilla was more difficult than
being confronted by the US tax code for the first time.
Perhaps someone with knowledge if the secret ritual would be so kind as to
report this.

Thanks.

[Bug 1136644] [NEW] gedit search function is not practical anymore

2013-02-28 Thread vollmanr
Public bug reported:

i use gedit a lot, and i find it comfortable in general.

the new small search window is extremely impractical. FOCUS PROBLEM:
CTRL+F type a search (search of longer strings FAR TOO SLOW) find
and now, typing ESC brings one back to the former place!
when trying to use CTRL-F again, the search string is replaced by new text.

if one wants to stay in the found passage, one must use the mouse/touchpad to
click into the text.

this is an extremely annoying feature/behavior.

i simply would like to have the old search window + its behavior back.
i am working very quickly and mostly using shortcuts.
gedit now completely interrupts my way of working.

additionally, where are the other search functions such as case-
sensitive search?

additionally, i do not want the search function to slow down so much.
for me it is ok to start the search after i have finished typing my
search string :-) this new energy-consuming ZEITGEIST-etc-fashion is not
good for quick workers with serious amounts of data.

best wishes, vollmanr
