[Bug 1155804] Re: python2.7 crashed with signal 5 in g_object_newv()

2013-03-16 Thread Martin Pitt
That's a design decision of Gio. It aborts with an assertion error if
you try to load an invalid example. This is rather inconvenient in many
cases, but not something we want to work around in pygobject.

[Bug 1067876] Re: Missing Safely Remove Drive option from Quicklists. Only have Eject.

2013-03-16 Thread Ajitesh Madai
In ubuntu 12.04 the safely remove option used to completely power off
my external hard disk. There were no lights and it was sure that the hard
disk was safe to remove. Also the disk would not be present the nautilus
devices list.

But after i upgraded to 12.10 the safely remove option was not there. The
Unmount option only dismounts the selected partition on the disk and does not
power down the entire drive. The lights keep blinking and even the drive keeps
spinning.
I wait for the drive to go to standby mode so that i can be sure to safely
remove it.

Please fix this bug in 13.04..

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2013-03-16 Thread Aristotelis
This bugs persists with Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. I cannot fathom how an issue
as drastic as this in a system component as crucial as the file manager
after seven years has yet to be resolved. How can PCmanFM and Dolphin be
this lightning fast compared to Nautilus?

I am not one to complain about bugs in FLOSS software as I know the
volunteer time and effort that goes into developing it. This, however,
is a core part of the Ubuntu and GNOME experience we are talking about
and fixing the slow down should be one of the top priorities both for
Canonical and the GNOME foundation.

[Bug 1108104] Re: [raring] Portable Players - MTP Rhythmbox plugin not working, can't sync music with Android device

2013-03-16 Thread gouri
@langdalep wrote You can't have two MTP clients talking to one device
at the same time.

What should be done, then ?

If I understand correctly, gvfs can multiplex calls from different
clients. So it might be a good idea to have it the only one to talk to
the MTP server. If so, rhythmbox could/should be changed to connect to
gvfs, right ? But rhythmbox would then talk gvfs, not MTP. Is that a
good thing ?

Or is it a better idea to insert a MTP-specific multiplexer that is the
only one available from clients (hiding the direct connection). That
multiplexer would accepts connections from multiple clients. Each client
would still talk MTP. Is that possible ?

In both setups, the MTP server talks to only one client, and several
simultaneous clients can talk to the server.

Is any of those two paths a good path to go ? Or something different ?
What are your thought ?

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2013-03-16 Thread Gorka Navarrete
Jan, the bug is not fixed in Ubuntu 12.10 (64-bit), at least not for me.

To put a quantitative example. Imagine we open a folder with 7000 dcm files in
a modern laptop:
-Nautilus takes 43 seconds
-GNOME Commander takes 1 second (!)

I tried Ubuntu 13.04 and it also takes a lot so, not fixed there
neither.

2013-03-16 Thread Gorka Navarrete
Of course, the 43 seconds are the default behavior. If you disable the
Show thumbnails option in nautilus preferences, the time goes down to
3 seconds.

It seems clear what is causing the problem. Maybe adding an option to
disable thumbnails when the folder is bigger than X files would solve
it?

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2013-03-16 Thread Gorka Navarrete
I made a stupid mistake. I was opening the same folder after changing
the thumbnails option. Sorry about that.

This is a more accurate assessment. Same situation as before, regardless of the
Show thumbnails status:
-Nautilus (1st time opening the folder) takes 43 seconds
-Nautilus (2nd time opening the folder) takes 3 seconds

I've tried it with Ubuntu 13.04 Beta1 and the results are about the
same.

It seems whatever nautilus is doing the first time it opens a folder
(but not the second time) is what is causing the delay.

I have lokked at and agree with you.

Those two are dublicates.

Because Walter Garcia-Fontes has also done upstream reporting and have
more luck with backtracing than I, I close mine report here as dublicate
of Watler's.

Thank filip for pointing on it.

[Bug 1108104] Re: [raring] Portable Players - MTP Rhythmbox plugin not working, can't sync music with Android device

2013-03-16 Thread Philip Langdale
The multiplexer daemon is generally considered the right approach. Media
players use parts of mtp that don't apply to gvfs so it's not a
candidate to serve as the multiplexer. But this is a bunch of work and
isn't going to happen soon.

[Bug 1155997] [NEW] Network transferts crash with SW-IOMMU space messages

2013-03-16 Thread Typhoe
Public bug reported:

Hi,

when transferring around more than 1Go of data using the ethernet controller
(04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 v2.0 Gigabit Ethernet
(rev c0)) with driver atl1c , my syslog gets full of messages DMA: out of
SW-IOMMU space for 4096 bytes at device 04:00.0 and my ethernet connection
stops working.
To reproduce this problem, I simply copy a few files from my internal SSD to my
NAS.

The byte size of the messages varies if I then try to access internet
with my browser or any other network oriented application (smaller
packets?)...

[Bug 1135402] [NEW] gsettings requires 'kick' to update

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

issuing the commands

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri 'file://fileuri.jpg'
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-options 'zoom'

as an example, under 12.04, changed the backround picture instantly.
now in 12.10, the picture remains until you open the appearence settings app,
then the changes are suddenly displayed.

this could be an intended modification, but it certainly is a bug and
not a feature for this use case.

[Bug 1156012] [NEW] nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV when opening a folder with many files

2013-03-16 Thread Paul Greindl
Public bug reported:

When opening a folder with around 3 500 files (about 5-10 MB each)
Nautilus runs on 100 % CPU, and finally crashed when switching to list-
view. After killing the main nautilus process, starting nautilus and
switching to list view before entering the folder, the CPU stayed at
60-90% and it was possible to browse the files.

[Bug 1131068] [NEW] option to disable the disk full warning does not work at all

2013-03-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm experiencing a very annoying bug: I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 now on my personal
file server (the bug was present in 12.04, too):
This file server uses several disk partitions to store some Truecrypt container
files that span across almost the entire volume. So a few of my disk partitions
are in fact almost full. That's why Ubuntu/Unity shows a dialog for each
effected volume. I can confirm these dialogs, but the messages appear again and
again every ~2 minutes. There is an option to disable theses warnings for the
corresponding volume, but this setting has no effect.

Function of this setting is very important for me - I don't need these
warnings, because I don't store any additional files on these volumes.
And because the warnings come so often and because there are several
warnings at a time, I cannot use Ubuntu at all, because I'm busy closing
these warnings most of the time...

[Bug 1037579] [NEW] can't print and automatically fit picture to frame

2013-03-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,
I am trying to print a picture to a 6x4 photo paper.
If the picture is not originally shot with the same scale ratio as the photo
paper, then there will be white borders on the sides.

There is no option to automatically fit the picture to the frame by
croping borders of the pictures.

In windows there is just a checkbox to check to obtain this.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-sg/windows-vista/Print-a-picture

In the image settings pane of Ubuntu, there is various settings to position
the picture in the frame and dynamically see the result, but everything is
manual, and the scaling option seems bugous since you can only zoom out wich
only creates more white borders. AS you see in the attached screeenshot, the
max scaling is 13% (why 13% ??) and I can't go past this.
For whatever reason there is a scale option in percentage on the 'Page Setup
pane, but you can't see how it will render unless you do a print preview, and
it will take many tries to get the right amount of zoom.

I tried Gimp, Shotwell, EOG, and there is this issue everywhere.

Until now my fix is to print on windows ...

I tried it my self. Clean Raring Xubuntu with Gnome PPA and Nautilus
3.7.91. And it choked when I tried a big transfer. So updating to Raring
is not a workaround in and of itself, nor is updating Nautilus.
