[Bug 983013] Re: Rhythmbow keeps playing / running in background if closed while playing

Try using Quit in the menu instead of the cross, it should do the trick.
I personnaly think that only closing the Gui is useful.

[Bug 1213961] [NEW] The new search feature is a huge step backwards in usability

2013-08-19 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

How it used to work till Ubuntu 12.10:
A - on the top of the window there used to be a search button. Only if you
clicked it, a search textfield would appear and you could do a file search
B - on the other hand, without performing any search, just by typing the
beginning of a file name, if a file or folder existed within the current folder
that matched the typed string, it would be SELECTED.

Ok, both features needed some improvement, and particularly B had some
glitches, but the way they have been unified now is... I'll refrain from
saying what I was going to say and I'll just say it is NOT even closely
the right solution. Actually it's much worse.

How it works now:
- on the top of the windows there is always a HUGE textfield for searching,
which occupies a lot of space, and is always focused
- when you type a string, it is typed in that searchbox, and all the contents
of the current window are FILTERED, meaning all the files or folders that don't
match are hidden.
- when you do so, the current path stops being shown on the top (this is one of
the worst parts)
- The possibility to type a partial filename and have the file/folder selected,
but without hiding the rest and without hiding the path, is gone.

While this could be a good replacement for the old search proper, it is
a dramatic step backwards in usability for those who used to use the B
thing.

Why this is a terribly bad idea:
- this is SLOW. Selecting the matching files was fast; now filtering all the
contents is much slower, and can become tremendously slow when the number of
items in the folder is big
- you stop seeing the rest of files; while this may be desired in some cases,
it may well be not, so one should be able to choose. In the old version you
could choose: if you wanted a search you did a search, if you wanted to quickly
select a file by typing its name, you wouid still see the rest of the files. We
loose one option
- you stop seeing the path on the top (until you clear the contents of the
search box, of course). That's annoying
- the always-present search textfield needlessly uses a lot of space whether or
not you're going to use it

What are the advantages:
- can't think of a single one

It is an error to try to unify two totally different fetures, i.e. SEARCHING on
one hand, and SELECTING an item by typing its name rather than clicking it, on
the other hand; they have been unified into one feature that doesn't fulfill
decently any of those two completely different needs; or perhaps one (the
search) but definitely not the other.

 gnome-settings-daemon: 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.2
 libx11-6: 2:1.4.99.1-0ubuntu2.2
 udev: 175-0ubuntu9.4
 xkb-data: 2.5-1ubuntu1.3
 xkb-data-i18n: 2.5-1ubuntu1.3

Of course the affected Precise system is up to date as of today.

[Bug 1010015] Re: Mahjongg 3.4.1 shuffle not working

2013-08-19 Thread Perceptron
Workaround:

Manually download the packages gnome-games-common_2.30.0-0ubuntu6 and
gnome-mahjongg_2.30.0-0ubuntu6 from the 10.04 version on packages.ubuntu.com.
Install them in the right order (gnome-games-common first to fulfill the
dependencies required by the gnome-mahjongg package) with 'dpkg -i' in terminal
(the GUI package installer didn't work for me).
Before installing, the new version of Mahjongg of course has to be removed,
this can be done in GUI (i.e. Synaptic). It will require 3 packages to be
removed: gnome-mahjongg, mahjongg and the metapackage gnome-games (which isn't
necessary any more once it's been installed to pull with it all the other
games-packages it depends on).

After this procedure, the game looks as it did before (GTK2 style) and
works as desired.

[Bug 1010015] Re: Mahjongg 3.4.1 shuffle not working

2013-08-19 Thread Perceptron
Addendum to this workaround:

It breaks the gnome-cards-data package. This cannot be installed due to broken
dependencies after the workaround has been implemented.
The workaround for this would be: Manually download the gnome-cards-data
package from packages.ubuntu.com and (as root) copy the .svg files from the
CONTENTS/usr/share/aisleriot/cards directory into the directory
/usr/share/aisleriot/cards on your hard drive.
mc (Midnight Commander) works fine for copying the content out of a .deb
package.

[Bug 1211937] Re: Nautilus leaks memory right after system start

2013-08-19 Thread Andreas E.
This is a serious issue because it can happen at unpredictable times,
and the memory leak runs with enormous speed. The system locks up so
much that I had to hard reboot several times which is not good and can
do damage to files.

As far as I found out, the issue happens when nautilus tries to generate a
thumbnail of a specific file (or a symlink of such a file) that is laying in
the Desktop folder. When the file is in another location, nautilus still fails
to create a thumbnail but doesn't leak memory.
Thumbnail generation should be able to fail (with appropriate error/exception
handling) and ignore failed files without impacting the system.

** Attachment added: Zip archive containing a file that causes issues with
thumbnailing when it is located in the Desktop folder.

[Bug 1085526]

2013-08-19 Thread Andreas Bürki
(In reply to comment #37)
Hi, as I cannot help with coding (on this specific issue), I've opened a
 bounty on FreedomSponsors:

 http://www.freedomsponsors.org/core/issue/319/support-for-digital-signatures

Anyone interested on this bug is welcome to pledge more money by visiting
the above link, this money will probably not be enough for the needed work
time, but I see it as a nice reward in exchange for the great contribution
 that completing this bug is.

Great, thanks for your initiative. Added an other 50US$. Actual status
220, a start.

In regards of nice to have for me as a Consumer, it would be helpful,
after an initial signature verification (of course on-line), that I can
(re)verify later once in the future; even off-line or when certificate
is revoked.

Keep in mind, important is only, that the certificate was valid then
signing the document, but it might happen, that I'll check the signature
on a contract a few years later.

Again, thx for your efforts

PS Of course, UTF-8 is must
