Re: [Bug 296867]

2013-08-30 Thread Justin Alan Ryan
Individual offers of $50 on a bug report are great, but we talked of
having a Kickstarter. I bet in the current climate we could raise
thousands.

Who is capable of taking a quarter million dollars, or 120k, or 50k,
or 10k, and doing this?

It happens for other crap. Why not for this awesome?

That report is quite old, and that issue is gone on my systems (i386
precise raring saucy). So im closing that report now.

@Sergio
note that i've often fix problems by cleaning the system (gtkorphan, bleachbit)
and/or renaming some hidden folders : .gconf , .local , .gnome2 , .config.
These folders are cleanly recreated (but without your own tweaks) on the next
reboot.

[Bug 1218896] Re: [MIR] location-service

2013-08-30 Thread Michael Terry
* What's the story with the following bit of code in the permissions manager?
Seems problematic.
if (credentials.pid != pid || credentials.uid != uid)
return Result::granted; // FIXME(tvoss): This should return rejected.
* Seems like it's missing a Build-Depends on graphviz for /usr/bin/dot
* Should have Pre-Depends: ${misc:Pre-Depends} for libubuntu-location-service0
* Has tests and runs them, great!
* No important bugs

Also needs lcov and dbus-cpp-dev, which I've added to this bug. I'll
look at them next.

[Bug 1152226] Re: nautilus no longer remembers view per directory

2013-08-30 Thread Timo Palomaa
#4: I doubt, as it require a patched version, but considering Ubuntu
kept an older version of Nautilus in 12.10... I think it might not be
that far fetched. I think better long-term solution would be to change
to Nemo and would be a pretty bold statement directed to Gnome team.

This together with swapping of Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2 shortcuts and
aforementioned shortcuts forcing to lose focus after changing the view
even when using only keyboard, make the list view pretty unsable anyway.

[Bug 1219121] [NEW] Totem’s interface unable to launch.

2013-08-30 Thread Martin Bodin
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I know I should stop using a system as slow as Ubuntu in my computer, but I
still do.
The problem is that when you try to launch Totem from Nautilus by double
clicking on a file and that no window is opened in the next minute, you’re no
longer sure whether or not the system noted that you double-clicked and thus
you retry double-clicking.
Then after a while two Totem windows launch… but no one of them responding,
whatever the time you wait for them.
After killing them all, restarting one and patiently waiting the full time for
a Totem window to be fully ready, it worked again.

I’m sorry for the pitch of this bug-report, but I strongly have the
feeling that no one cares about (no so) old computers and assumed that
every launch of a program will be atomic (in the distributed sense: the
execution of the program will be atomic from the moment it starts to the
moment everything has been loaded)… but that’s clearly not the case,
especially running Ubuntu on a laptop aging more than 3 years. And thus
(I guess), parallel executions of the same program break some
assumptions of the code.

I know I should remove Ubuntu from my laptop to switch to something more
serious, but while I don’t I get similar errors from various programs. I think
this particular is the first time I report for Totem, however.
Hoping that Apport’s collected information may be useful,
Yours sincerely,
Martin.

P.S.: I’m really sorry for the general mood of this message, but I used
to think Ubuntu and all its softwares were the best programs ever… and I
got disillusioned as soon as my laptop wasn’t the cutting edge one. ☹
