[Bug 581245] Re: critical battery state action destroys netbook remix on lucid
Seva Gluschenko, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily kernel folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12-rc2 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Bug 1016291] Re: gimp-message outputs script-fu-Warning when it's not necessarily a warning
Thank you for the reply, Thomas. I'm attaching two test scripts. (None of them is perfect as I am not very good at Gimp scripts.) I made the tests with Gimp 2.8. First one (message-TEST-registered.scm) registers the script with script-fu so that it can be run from the Filters menu as Message Test. I recommend you run it with the following command: gimp -b '(script-fu-message-test)' The result is a popup titled Gimp Message, which is quite good, the icon however is a sad face. Alternatively, you can just start Gimp and run the script from the Filters menu: The result is an exclamation mark in the status bar, plus the message Hello World. The above results don't have the word Warning any more, but still have the icons that refer to a warning (sad face or exclamation mark). The second script (message-test-TEST-raw.scm) contains only a gimp-message command and will run immediately when Gimp is started. I recommend that you start Gimp from the command line with gimp. The result is a message on the console: script-fu-Warning: Hello World. My point is that any reference to a problem situation (sad face, exclamation mark, or the textWarning) is unnecessary and shall be replaced (maybe with an i for info icon, and respecively with the text script-fu-Message) as a gimp-message command does not necessarily indicate a warning. Thanks for taking a look! ** Attachment added: Gimp script to test the gimp-message command (registered version) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/1016291/+attachment/3850870/+files/message-TEST-registered.scm -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016291 Title: gimp-message outputs script-fu-Warning when it's not necessarily a warning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/1016291/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 505085] Re: gnome-settings-daemon extensive disk usage
The attached patch checks if max_age and max_size are both -1, ie thumbnail cleaning is disabled, before scanning the thumbnail dirs. This enables the performance hit to be removed through a simple configuration option. Please apply this patch in ubuntu, it doesn't really fix the problem, but at least allows it to be disabled easily, without disabling the entire housekeeping process. I've also submitted it upstream, where it will probably gather dust for years. ** Patch added: patch to properly allow disabling of thumbnail cache cleaning https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/505085/+attachment/3851165/+files/housekeeping_fix_disabling_thumbnail_scan.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505085 Title: gnome-settings-daemon extensive disk usage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/505085/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1006490]
I doubt there is much to do on distribution side. As fallback mode is dropped from support of GNOME (see https://wiki.gnome.org/ThreePointSeven/Features/DropOrFixFallbackMode), newer version GNOME/openSUSE will not even ship with it. So just no one is doing anything about fallback mode anymore. A possible quick fix is to use command line tool: xkill. I also suggest to try out GNOME 3 (non-fallback mode), and to have a GNOME 2-like feel, you can find a lot of useful extensions on https://extensions.gnome.org/, including a force quit extension. Also in future GNOME/openSUSE, there will be an officially bundled extensions pack that offers a better GNOME 2 experience. See https://help.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.8/, many extensions in the Classic pack are available for openSUSE 12.3 (which includes GNOME 3.6) and are installable from the above gnome extension site. In case, you would like a more authentic GNOME 2 style, there are also two GNOME forks: 1. Cinnamon (fork of GNOME 3), needs 3D graphics support. 2. MATE (fork of old GNOME 2), _no_ 3D support required. However these are not included in openSUSE 12.3, you can install them from unofficial repos from http://software.opensuse.org/ though. Hope these help.
