[Bug 1237188] [NEW] [udev] saucy botching network configuration
You have been subscribed to a public bug: saucy network configuration is behaving strangely. i've installed saucy via netboot, selecting openssh-server only. saucy netboot found and used my cable modem just fine, but the network configuration it installed does not find my cable modem. precise works fine, so i brought forward /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/udev/rules.d/70 -persistent-net.rules from precise. surprisingly, this didn't work. details below. precise properly obtains an address for eth0 from the cable modern. saucy doesn't, and inserts a bizarre local address instead. under precise, which works: precise$ uname -a Linux nana 3.2.0-41-lowlatency #45-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Fri Apr 26 11:06:24 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux precise$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:c7:d9:55:3f inet addr:71.195.45.129 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.252.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:576 Metric:1 RX packets:72876 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:45675 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:19570389 (19.5 MB) TX bytes:5011797 (5.0 MB) eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:5a:55:cf:29 inet addr:192.168.0.6 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::204:5aff:fe55:cf29/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2201 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1785 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:693375 (693.3 KB) TX bytes:674011 (674.0 KB) Interrupt:11 Base address:0x2400 loLink encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:60728 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:60728 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:17205585 (17.2 MB) TX bytes:17205585 (17.2 MB) precise$ route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface 0.0.0.0 71.195.44.1 0.0.0.0 UG10000 eth0 71.195.44.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.252.0 U 0 00 eth0 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 eth1 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 00 eth1 precise$ cat /etc/network/interfaces autolo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static netmask 255.255.255.0 address 192.168.0.6 precise$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules # PCI device 0x8086:0x1229 (e100) (mobo) (bottom) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:08:c7:d9:55:3f", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0" # PCI device 0x1317:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:0f.0 (tulip) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:04:5a:55:cf:29", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth1" # PCI device 0x10b7:0x9050 (3c59x) (top) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:60:08:bf:e3:2d", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth2" precise$ cat /etc/network/interfaces~0riginal auto lo iface lo inet loopback precise$ cat /~/etc^udev^rules.d^70-persistent-net.rules~0riginal # PCI device 0x10b7:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:10.0 (3c59x) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:60:08:bf:e3:2d", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth1" # PCI device 0x8086:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:0d.0 (e100) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:08:c7:d9:55:3f", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0" # PCI device 0x1317:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:0f.0 (tulip) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:04:5a:55:cf:29", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth2" under saucy: saucy$ ls /boot/vm* /boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-11-generic saucy$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:5a:55:cf:29 inet addr:192.168.0.11 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::204:5aff:fe55:cf29/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:273 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:33 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:17678 (17.6 KB) TX bytes:2878 (2.8 KB) eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:c7:d9:55:3f inet addr:192.168.0.6 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::208:c7ff:fed9:553f/64 Scope:Link

[Bug 1237564] Re: Regression: some previous keyboard bindings & all newly created custom bindings fail
Hmm, you're correct, ctrl+alt+l doesn't work with prev. version either or any lock screen binding.. though currently lock screen doesn't work here at all anyway. So try this - open keyboard panel > shortcuts > custom Set a custom shortcut(s), log out/in & try it Ex. here - command of gedit, binding of ctrl+alt+f log out/in & try Or as mentioned in keyboard panel go shortcuts > system & try to set a binding for log out It seems that when downgrading or using g-s-d with commit reverted (patch re-applied), that one needs to reset any *current* custom binding for them to work (can use same binding It also seems that after setting a binding a log out/in may be required with 3.8.5-0ubuntu6 So to test custom bindings I set 4 as in screen, all work with 3.8.5-0ubuntu6 (after resetting & a log out/in), none work with 3.8.5-0ubuntu7, ever ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2013-10-09 18:00:45.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1237564/+attachment/3870106/+files/Screenshot%20from%202013-10-09%2018%3A00%3A45.png ** Description changed: With the latest g-s-d any custom key-bindings fail as do some 'default* ones (system - Test cases - - go ctrl+alt+l - screen should lock, but nothing happens - + Test cases - open keyboard panel > shortcuts> system change Log out to a new binding - Try new binding, nothing happens + log out/in thru indicator-session + Try the new binding, nothing happens open keyboard panel > shortcuts> custom create a new binding for some command + log out/in use binding, nothing happens ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: gnome-settings-daemon 3.8.5-0ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-11.17-generic 3.11.3 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-11-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Oct 9 14:03:35 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-10-03 (6 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" - Beta amd64 (20131002) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: gnome-settings-daemon UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1237564 Title: Regression: some previous keyboard bindings & all newly created custom bindings fail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1237564/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: I have tried MULTIPLE times over several days to get "this computer" (which I'm none to "happy" w/ to begin w/!) to read the instructions regarding the instructions for application of my new WYFI system. Thus saving myself Mucho dollars per month,per year. I've REALLY, REALLY had it w/ this piece of crap computer! It NO LONGER provides back-up--it states "No BACK-UP!" Permission denied! Thus, I have NO HISTORY! The computer NO LONGER talks to the printer--for no apparent reason, other than it's a piece of shit Ubuntu. Boy-oh-boy! Did I ever get suckered when I got this piece of SHIT computer! They must have seen me coming! There's NO TECH SUPPORT! There are ALL kinds of BUGS! I can't open certain files, again for no apparent reason, except it's a Ubuntu! & there's other files that are full of NOTHING but; the letter "J", bookmarks, little squiggles-- that's right, I wrote squiggles, files that are blank--I've got about 20 of those. The ONLY way to get Tech Support is to call London, England. Yeah, right--that'll be happening, just about the time I see flying pigs out my window! Until they call me or there's a 800 #, I'm STUCK w/ this piece of crapo-duro computer. So, GO AHEAD! PLEASE ! MAKE MY YEAR! FIX THIS COMPUTER! I'D LOVE IT!!! I MEAN-- LOVE IT!! "CUZ it's real close to meeting my hammer, then going out the 4th floor window, then meeting w/ the sledge hammer from the handy man!!! I've HAD IT! PLEASE HELP ME! I NEED TO READ THIS CD! CAN'T IT EVEN DO THAT SIMPLE OF A TASK? Or, is it really that BIG of a piece of shit? If the answer is YES! Please don't respond. I might just go out of my mind. & it'd be your fault & only my puppy would know the truth! & EVERYBODY should KNOW about this computer & Ubuntu! [Bug 991481] Re: Constant dns traffic for daisy.ubuntu.com
[11:52:24] ok there are a continuious stream of updates from the kernel [11:52:37] becasue link level mappings are in the routing table, and they appear and dissapear [11:52:39] all the time [11:53:04] try sudo ip monitor [15:12:24] so basically this approach is bogus then? [15:13:46] well it needs consideration whether it is being selective enough [15:14:14] as as a naive user i look at the raw stream it changes whenever an arp entry appears or dissappears [15:14:30] now they mey be doing it 'righter' by trying to select specific subsets of [15:14:42] the messages, or not, one wuold need to emit the ones they keep/drop to see [15:14:52] it is possible they have not adapted to the new world order [15:16:41] new world order? [15:19:05] when the link level addresses got promoted from another separate cache into the [15:19:13] routing table, which sped things up [15:19:53] so ipv6 neibour discovery results, and ipv4 arp results get put in as a real 'host route' now [15:20:01] and then removed when they time out [15:20:09] which might mean things looking for route changes would see both [15:20:22] of those, and think networking changed, but you would need to shove a print in there [15:20:24] to be sure me thinks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991481 Title: Constant dns traffic for daisy.ubuntu.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/whoopsie/+bug/991481/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1237355] [NEW] Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse needs to be repaired
Public bug reported: Similar to #1094744, the Logitech Ultra Touch Mouse fails to reconnect after powering off or switching channels (this mouse can be associated with two devices). Adding a line to the PIN code database (/usr/share /gnome-bluetooth/pin-code-database.xml, see attachment) and then removing and re-adding the device resolves the problem for me. For completeness, the specific device model is t630 (for Windows), for which all other functionality (including all gestures and battery information) seems to be working quite well. Some gestures result in key combinations that have no default action bound to them. There is also a Mac version called t631. I am uncertain if the latter has the same pairing issue. [Bug 1153488] Re: Treats bluetooth input device batteries as batteries
** Description changed: [Impact] * There are many Bluetooth devices with battery information inside. When they are treated as system battery, it will make the system poweroff/suspend/hibernate when some Bluetooth device has critical low battery. It is a very annoying behavior for the users. Originally, there is no such Bluetooth battery information until Ubuntu 12.04 brings linux-quantal-lts and linux-raring-lts, so those linux kernels also bring this issue. [Test Case] * Pair some Bluetooth devices, such as Apple Wireless Mouse or Apple Wireless Keyboard. * Click the power indicator and you can find Apple Wireless Mouse is listed as system battery, and there is no Apple Wireless Keyboard. If you open gnome-power-statistics, you can find the 'Supply' field of Apple Wireless Mouse is 'Yes' but it should not be. - * If you have ever named your own Apple Wireless Mouse by UTF-8 string, you have find that the 'Model' field of Apple Wireless Mouse shows only ASCII without the correct name. [Regression Potential] * There is no obvious regression as I know. [Other Info] * Most patches are from upstream, modified to fix the conflicts, and made by the same developer (i.e. fourdollars). * We need another patch from https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=d0a934b764c67b4bf626f5b7cf725a6e3066afd2 to make Apple Wireless Keyboard showing. [Original Bug Description] This is a weird one... the system is an HP Pavilion 23 All In One and is powered by a large power supply brick. I currently have an Apple Magic Mouse connected via Bluetooth.
