[Bug 1239990] [NEW] Selecting primary monitor is not intuitive
Public bug reported: Today when I plugged in my external monitor the Activities bar/clock/etc (is there a name for this?) was on the wrong screen. It took me 20 minutes of plugging/unplugging, restarting X, searching and reading forums until I came across this AskUbuntu post [1]. The answer, to drag the black bar to the other display in Settings Displays, had been sitting in front of my eyes all along, but apparently unless you've used a Mac (I haven't) it is unreasonable to assume a user would know to do this. Granted, there is a tooltip that says Drag to change the primary display. but this is only activated once you have already clicked on the tiny black bar. Perhaps a better UI hint would be useful here to say Hey, dumbass, drag that very tiny black bar or something. [Bug 1240004] [NEW] Keyboard layout won't change when using Japanese IME
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Until Ubuntu 13.10, having an azerty keyboard layout when writing in French, and a qwerty layout for Japanese input (be it Anthy or Mozc) was only a matter of telling IBus not to use system layout. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Bug 1065979] Re: external/internal monitors mirrored on boot when laptop lid is closed
Regression: This update broke the default Xorg resolution, set by e.g. PreferredMode in xorg.conf or by XRANDR_MODE_0 in LTSP, now gnome-settings-daemon forces the *highest* resolution instead of the default one. [Bug 1240225] [NEW] X server ignoring PreferredMode option
Public bug reported: After applying the most recent updates (on 10/13/13) the X server is suddenly ignoring the PreferredMode option in my xorg.conf file. My monitor is attached through an 8-port KVM that doesn't pass the monitor EDID. This means the X server can't determine the monitor capabilities and defaults to a lowest common denominator, typically 1024x768. Until now I've successfully used the PreferredMode option to set the mode to values defined in the xorg.conf file. After applying updates last weekend the X server is suddenly ignoring that option. Currently the only way I can get the correct (1920x1200) screen resolution is by logging in at 1024x768 and running the nVidia Settings program, which is a PITA because the system crashes about once a day now (reported seperately). I tried the nVidia tool option to create a new xorg.conf file. It includes a metamodes option, but it still doesn't work.
