[Bug 887331] Re: file-roller cannot open filetypes with derived mimetypes (e.g. epub and ods files)

2013-10-24 Thread Eli Schwartz
I have both File Roller and Engrampa Archive Manager installed, as I
have both the Unity and Mate desktops installed.

File Roller dos not open ePubs, Engrampa does.

Maybe you should talk to the people at Mate.

[Bug 1244499] [NEW] Minor inconsistency in UI under Appearance with regards to the auto-hide functionality in Saucy

2013-10-24 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

Minor bug. I've noticed that when I toggle on auto hide and toggle it
off under "Appearance" and under the "Behavior" tab, I can still adjust
the reveal location and reveal sensitivity even with the option to auto-
hide the launcher toggled off again. Only happens after a toggle on and
off. The behavior should be to grey out the options once disabled again
and not allow the user to select them until the auto-hide option is
enabled again. Running the latest updates on 64 bit Saucy. Screenshots
coming up.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-24 Thread Anton Veretenenko
Still failed for me.
I always used Right Ctrl to switch layouts.
Now UI let's me set it to "Control R", but it does not switch layout at all.
It does not let me set Alt+Shift displaying this shortcut as "Shift+Alt+Next
Group".
Does not let set two shifts.
Ctrl+Alt does not switch layout if set.
Super+Space does not switch layout and type space in the editor.
Caps Lock does not switch layout if set.
Only Ctrl+Space works.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-24 Thread David
I can verify that the -proposed packages restore the ability to use
Alt+Shift and, more importantly, Shift+Shift. Some combinations,
however, still do not work. Alt+Alt is still broken (as it has been for
years now, unfortunately). Trying to use that shortcut gets
misinterpreted. Any chance for a full fix?

[Bug 1093582] Re: gnome-system-monitor display without grid

2013-10-24 Thread Robert Roth
@Sebastian: I have checked from the system monitor git repo log what would be
worth porting, and there's not much worth porting, basically the fix for this
bug and another one for a wording change in bug #1156238. The other ones, some
performance improvements and memory leak fixes are also interesting, but as
these happened after serious refactorings, they can not be easily ported.
With the ones I have mentioned I have created a branch with new patches for it
in /debian/patches, unfortunately bzr builddeb fails with some strange error,
looks like it wants to revert the fix for the graph grid rendering issue based
on the upstream 3.8.2.1.
I would appreciate if you could take a look into that branch, based on
ubuntu:gnome-system-monitor, see it at
lp:~evfool/gnome-system-monitor/stableupdates.

[Bug 1093582] Re: gnome-system-monitor display without grid

2013-10-24 Thread Robert Roth
@Sebastian: Yes, System Monitor has been updated along with the other
applications to fit in the GNOME ecosystem with headerbars, which is a 3.10
feature, and requires gtk 3.10. I have been looking at what could be easily
backported, but system monitor has undergone some refactorings this cycle too,
so changes are not too easily backported.
I will take some more time and to pick the best bugfixes and the ones which
also appear in launchpad and can be ported easily, and come up with a system
monitor ubuntu package update featuring those ones.

2013-10-24 Thread Robert Roth
Yes, that's an issue fixed upstream, however Ubuntu still uses an older
version, and probably won't get upgraded to the current stable release
in the next cycle either, so unless someone's willing to backport the
patch, this won't change.

Thanks for taking the time to comment to help Ubuntu improve.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-24 Thread Egmont Koblinger
I'd like to second Sergio's problem with the NumLock. Switching layouts
turns numlock off (kind of). More precisely:

The digits except 5 work as arrow/home/etc. keys, but 5 inserts a
literal 5. This is a weird mixture I've never seen before and I can't
see any rationale whatsoever. Pressing NumLock once turns it off
completely (5 does nothing), pressing once again turns it on. So I
actually have to press it twice to switch it on.

I want to have my NumLock on all the time (I use the keypad for typing
digits, never as arrows). I switch layouts very often, sometimes even
like once per minute or so. Having to press NumLock twice every time
after such a switch in unacceptable for me.

I don't have a NumLock LED, I can't tell how that would be lit.

[Bug 1244361] [NEW] HDMI/DisplayPort is selected as sound output even when connected display has no sound capability

2013-10-24 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

if my external display is plugged in. I have an HP EliteBook 7940m
connected via display port to an HP ZR2440w monitor which has no
speakers. When it is connected I have to go into sound settings and re-
select the laptop speakers to hear sound.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-24 Thread William Hua
** Description changed:

+ A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
+ https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
+ issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:
+
+ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
+ sudo apt-get update
+ sudo apt-get upgrade
+
  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the "next layout key" entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
-> the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
"['Shift_L']"
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
-> the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

  --

Can't set keyboard layout change to ctrl+shift, Caps Lock, alt+shift
etc. "Shift", "CapsLock" keys are just ignored in settings. Also the
default shortcut was set to "Super+Space" that is inconveniently,
because Dash is opening when you swich your keyboard layout.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-24 Thread Romano Giannetti
Probably there are reasons that make this impossible, so please take
this a naïve suggestion (no offense intended to all the people working
on this, especially William) --- but what about going back to the 13.04
situation? Now I am trying to reenable the ctl-alt-backspace x-kill
(gnome shell tends to hang sometime...) and can't find how. The old
layout setting option windows that Norbert is citing was really useful
and covered all needs.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-24 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
However, I left the default shortcut to "Switch to previous source"
(Shift+Super+Space).. I tested it and it doesn't work, no matter the
order in which I press the keys.

2013-10-24 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
Updated gnome-control-center and gnome-control-center-data from saucy-
proposed. Logged out, back in. It works now, I was able to set short-cut
to Left Ctrl+Shift and it switches properly.

Thanks!

[Bug 1203349] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in _gdk_pixbuf_new_from_uri_at_scale()

2013-10-24 Thread Vincent Hindriksen
I've got something very comparable: "nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in
gnome_desktop_thumbnail_factory_generate_thumbnail()". I think it is
best to add my info

When creating an empty image file, the thumbnail-function
gnome_desktop_thumbnail_factory_generate_thumbnail() makes Nautilus
crash.

This error is only given when running nautilus as root, as normal user
it just crashes without any message.

To get this error:

- open Nautilus
- go to your home-directory with Nautilus
- create an empty jpg or png in your home-directory ("gedit file.png" and then
save this file)
- wait up to 3 seconds
- Nautilus crashes

>From what I read form the code, it seems not to check if data-size is 0
(gdk_pixbuf_get_byte_length is not used), or gets a non-zero width and
length.

See https://developer.gnome.org/gdk-pixbuf/stable/gdk-pixbuf-The-
GdkPixbuf-Structure.html#GdkPixbuf for documentation and
https://github.com/GNOME/libgnomeui/blob/master/libgnomeui/gnome-
thumbnail.c for the source.

[Bug 994231] Re: Missing icons

2013-10-24 Thread Sworddragon
Its not so difficult as you might think:

1. We need to know if it is indended that gnome-icon-theme doesn't contain all
symbols for eog.
1.1. If yes: Replace the depends gnome-icon-theme with a right one or add
another icon-theme.
1.2. If not: It is a bug in gnome-icon-theme.

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed drive

2013-10-24 Thread Sabine
Same bug with Ubuntu 13.04

Yesterday I updated from ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04 using the software updater.
Now when I plug-in my external hdd it automounts again in seconds after I hit
'safely remove'. It does not stay unmounted even after multiple times hitting
'safely remove' I can only remove it when I either do ' sudo eject /media/...'
or 'sudo umount /media/'

I hadn't had this problem with 12.10. It doesn't make a difference if I
use the Usb 2.0 or 3.0 port on my computer.

In addition a Usb pen drive that was working perfectly before is not working at
all anymore and not even listed
when I do 'sudo fdisk -l'

My computer does have a Nvidia Graphics card and I use gnome not unity

[Bug 994231] Re: Missing icons

2013-10-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
if we were to add a theme depends we would pick the human icon theme,
which is installed by default and I guess you are not using, that
wouldn't solve your issue ... package depends can't fix your custom
theme issue, either stick to the default theme or install the icons set
going with your theme (e.g the theme you are using should depends on the
icons)

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-24 Thread Norbert
Hello!
It seems that problem discussed in this bug report is wider.
In next six month 14.04 will be prepared and arrived. It's LTS. So users of
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS may want to update to it.
What they have now (in Ubuntu 12.04.3)?
They have very wide choose of available hotkeys for layout change. Let's see.

In Ubuntu 12.04.3, under gnome-control-center keyboard we have (select tab
"Typing", click on link "Layout Settings" in left bottom corner of window,
press the "Options" button in the top right corner of window, window "Keyboard
Layout Options" is opened).
Under "Key(s) to change layout" it has:
Alt+Caps Lock
Alt+Ctrl
Alt+Shift
Alt+Space
Any Win key (while pressed)
Both Alt keys together
Both Ctrl keys together
Both Shift keys together
Caps Lock
Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout)
Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action
Ctrl+Shift
Left Alt
Left Alt+Left Shift
Left Alt (while pressed)
Left Ctrl
Left Ctrl+Left Shift
Left Ctrl+LeftWin (to first layout), RightCtrl+Menu (to second layout)
Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout)
Left Shift
Left Win
Left Win (to first layout), Right Win/Menu (to last layout)
Left Win (while pressed)
Menu
Right Alt
Rigth Alt (while pressed)
Right Ctrl
Right Ctrl+Right Shift
Right Ctrl (while pressed)
Right Shift
Right Win
Right Win (while pressed)
Scroll Lock
Shift+Caps Lock

This list is very long but universal. Defined hotkeys are full-functional. For
example if I set Ctrl+Shift for layout changing I can copy and paste in
gnome-terminal with Ctrl+Shift+C / V.
I do not want to post other "Keyboard Layout Options" features, that missed in
13.10. But they are of course missed.

What we have now in 13.10 (ppa or proposed)?
We have simple shortcuts (for example Alt+Shift and Ctrl+Shift) and do not have
other.
I am going to detect and report separate bugreports for each hotkey which does
not work correctly in 13.10. If anybody want to help me, it would be good.

Keyboard layout switching is most important and most essential
functionality.

IMHO. I do not agree with GNOME simpilicity/stupidity modern style and I
hope that 14.04 will be polished and full-functional as Precise
Pangolin. I understand that some of the keyboard layout switch options
are available in gnome-tweak-tool, but it is not right place for them.
Layout switching is a common feature, there is no reason to hide it
under not-preinstalled tool.

Let's make Trusty Tahr the greatest Ubuntu LTS release!

[Bug 1161941] Re: git-diff losing lines

2013-10-24 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Hi Shahbaz,

Many relevant fixes went into vte-0.34.9, and many others are pending
(patches waiting to get accepted by developers) and will hopefully make
it to 0.36. Could you please test 0.34.9, or even better, my git tree

After compiling vte, you can run the standalone vteapp by typing
./src/vte2_90. I'd be glad to hear whether this bug and your other bug
are fixed.

[Bug 1244158] [NEW] GNOME: Modifiers Only keyboard layout switch have no effect

2013-10-24 Thread Shlomi Israely
Public bug reported:

After setting up Alt+Shift keys to change the keyboard layout (via
gnome-tweak-tool or via gnome control center), these key combinations do
not provide the expected result.

Expected Result:
Keyboard layout is changed and keyboard indicator display updates

Actual Result:
Only keyboard indicator display updates, leaving the actual keyboard indicator
in English.

I have English-Hebrew keyboard layout configured with alt+shift for layout
switching.
Once the layout is on Hebrew, alt+shift switches back to English properly.
Once the layout is on English, alt+shift changes the keyboard indicator to
"he", but actually the systems layout is still English.
At this point, pressing Alt+Shift results in changes to the indicator display
only, resulting in no actual layout switches.

If "Allow different sources for each window" is selected in "Input Sources
Options" then:
- Changing the layout to Hebrew.
- Alt-Tab to another window with a different layout.
- Alt-Tab back, allows me to type back in Hebrew.

When Alt+Shift "switches" to English:
$ setxkbmap -query
rules: evdev
model: pc105
layout: us
options:compose:caps,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,grp:alt_shift_toggle

When Alt+Shift "switches" to Hebrew:
$ setxkbmap -query
rules: evdev
model: pc105
layout: il,us
variant:,
options:compose:caps,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,grp:alt_shift_toggle

Which seems right. But still when typing, English chars are being typed.

I tried this with the packages from the official repos, gnome-ppa, and
ppa:attente/1218322 as described here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/356357/how-to-use-altshift-combo-to-switch-keyboard-layout-in-13-10
All with the same effect.

[Bug 1195911] Re: ssh: Received disconnect from xx.yy.zz.aa: 2: Too many authentication failures for XXXX

2013-10-24 Thread Lars Noodén
While it appears not to be a problem in Lubuntu, it is still a problem
in Ubuntu 13.10.

$ lsb_release -r
Release:13.10

There are really two problems. One is that the keyring or something
snarfs up the keys without asking and then offers all of them when
trying to connect. The other is that there is no negotiation between
the ssh client and server about which key to offer.

The only icon-theme dependency of eog is gnome-icon-theme which doesn't
provide all needed icons. So either this theme is incomplete or the
control file should provide an additional icon-theme as dependency (like
the default Ubuntu theme which you mentioned).

[Bug 1244138] [NEW] Run gnome-keyring-daemon using upstart

2013-10-24 Thread Andre Bogus
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to LUbuntu 13.10, gnome-keyring-daemon (from the package
gnome-keyring-3.8.2-0ubuntu3) was no longer started .

Asking around in IRC suggested that the correct solution to the problem
would be to upstartify gnome-keyring-daemon.

So here I provide the attached upstart script. If added to the package
at /usr/share/upstart/sessions/gnome-keyring, gnome-keyring-daemon
should correctly be started without the need to modify the lxsession.

** Affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Specifically, removing the eos signal handler from rbzeitgeist.py makes
the problem go away. I'm not familiar enough with rhythmbox's internal
API so I thought this information might help.

Title:
Can't create EWS or MAPI account

Status in “evolution-data-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Evolution appears unable to create an EW or MAPI account. All the
steps proceed normally, including fetching the URL (for EWS) or
authenticating (for MAPI). However, at the conclusion of account
creation process, no actual account appears in the list.

I've tried starting Evolution from the command line using various
DEBUG_ variables and there are no EWS- or MAPI-specific errors. So I'm
not exactly sure what to do next.

I am fairly certain the problem doesn't lie with my corporate Exchange
