[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2013-10-29 Thread Garonenur
the ability to set a compose key is missing and that is just stupid for people
that have to write in multiple languages. Why this would be removed is beyond
me.
Why any settings menue would be reduced is beyond me. If a user does not want
to tinker with it, he will never SEE any settings menu, but for some of use
Ubuntu was a highly customizable system and we liked it for that.

[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

In next six month 14.04 will be prepared and arrived. It's LTS. So users
of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS may want to update to it.

What they have now (in Ubuntu 12.04.3)?
They have very wide choose of available hotkeys for layout change. Let's see.
In Ubuntu 12.04.3, under gnome-control-center keyboard we have (select tab
Typing, click on link Layout Settings in left bottom corner of window,
press the Options button in the bottom right corner of window, window
Keyboard Layout Options is opened).

This window allows user to set many options.
It allows to set the following:
Adding currency signs to certain keys
   Adding Esperanto circumflexes (supersigno)
   Alt/Win key behavior
   Caps Lock key behavior
   Compose key position
   Ctrl key position
   Japanese keyboard options
Key sequence to kill the X server
   Key(s) to change layout
   Key to choose 3rd level
   Key to choose 5th level
   Miscellaneous compatibility options
   Numeric keypad delete key behavior
   Numeric keypad layout selection
Use keyboard LED to show alternative layout
Using space key to input non-breakable space character

In Ubuntu 13.10 this setup window is missing.
So user will be unable to adjust many layout switching parameters.

For example, under Key(s) to change layout this window has:
  Alt+Caps Lock
  Alt+Ctrl
  Alt+Shift
  Alt+Space
  Any Win key (while pressed)
  Both Alt keys together
  Both Ctrl keys together
  Both Shift keys together
  Caps Lock
Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout)
Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action
  Ctrl+Shift
  Left Alt
  Left Alt+Left Shift
  Left Alt (while pressed)
  Left Ctrl
  Left Ctrl+Left Shift
Left Ctrl+LeftWin (to first layout), RightCtrl+Menu (to second layout)
Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout)
  Left Shift
  Left Win
Left Win (to first layout), Right Win/Menu (to last layout)
  Left Win (while pressed)
  Menu
  Right Alt
  Rigth Alt (while pressed)
  Right Ctrl
  Right Ctrl+Right Shift
  Right Ctrl (while pressed)
  Right Shift
  Right Win
  Right Win (while pressed)
  Scroll Lock
  Shift+Caps Lock
This list is very long but universal. Defined hotkeys are full-functional.
For example if I set Ctrl+Shift for layout changing I can copy and paste in
gnome-terminal with Ctrl+Shift+C / V.
I do not want to post other Keyboard Layout Options features, that missed
in 13.10. But they are of course missed.
What we have now in 13.10 (ppa:attente/1218322 or proposed)?
We have simple shortcuts (for example Alt+Shift and Ctrl+Shift) and do not
have other.

This bug report will be a table of contents of all issues, that are
called from this window and are broken/missed in Ubuntu 13.10. For
example, we can detect and report separate bugreports for each hotkey
- which does not work correctly in 13.10.

[Bug 1194328] Re: should check that hibernate is really allowed before listing it

2013-10-29 Thread wordsmyth2
HOLD IT! Another regression in the name of 'improvement'? I've used
power saving HIBERNATE for YEARS in Ubuntu without any problems. This is
the sort of smug action that alienates potential users keen to migrate
from Windows, where hibernate works just fine. I'm currently sticking
with 12.04, where hibernate works fine, but recently - and foolishly - I
installed 13.10 on my daughter's computer. I'll be re-installing 12.04
for her tomorrow ...

Wake up, people: give the people what they need.

[Bug 1195911] Re: ssh: Received disconnect from xx.yy.zz.aa: 2: Too many authentication failures for XXXX

2013-10-29 Thread Lars Noodén
This bug also messes with tools like FileZilla, preventing it from
authenticating with a password. The keyes get tried first, even if they
aren't keys for that server, so that it fails before it can even get
around to trying the password.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1245874] [NEW] Java JAR files are opened in file-roller instead of Java Runtime (remove application/x-jar=file-roller.desktop from /etc/gnome/defaults.list)

2013-10-29 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Public bug reported:

Java JAR files are opened in file-roller instead of Java Runtime
Environment

Steps to reproduce:
Install JRE, for example Oracle Java7
In File manager (nautilus) click on Jar file, for example download
Minecraft.jar file from
https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/Minecraft.jar

Actual result:
minecraft.jar file is opened in file-roller instead of Java Runtime Environment
(but Java Runtime Environment can be choosed by right-click-Open With-Java7
Runtime)

Expected result:
.jar file should be opened in Java Runtime

This bug can be easily solved by remove lines:
application/x-jar=file-roller.desktop
application/x-java-archive=file-roller.desktop

from /etc/gnome/defaults.list file.

I can submit a patch if you like :)

[Bug 1219805] Re: 13.10 evolution-calendar-factory cevolution-calendar-factory constantly running and using 25% cpu

2013-10-29 Thread R_volkmann
I've got the same problem. Ubuntu Gnome 13.10, Gnome 3.10

My clock doesn't show seconds, none of the settings in Gnome Tweak Tool - top
bar help.
That is no fix for me!!

Disabling Calendars or going offline in Evolution doesn't help either.

[Bug 1224575] Re: gnome-control-center keyboard no longer has way to modify caps lock key behavior

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

Up until Raring, it was trivial to use the gnome-control-center to modify
caps lock key behavior.
In earlier versions you could do the following:
   - Launch System Settings
   - Click on Keyboard Layout
   - Click on Options
   - These options allow one to modify Caps Lock Key behavior (for example swap
it with ESC)

In newer versions of Saucy I try to do the following:
    - Launch System Settings
    - Click on Keyboard
    - Click on Layout Settings
    - Cannot find a location similar to these older options

These older 'Keyboard Layout Options' made it very easy to do things
like swaping Caps Lock for ESC which make vim users much happier.

  WORKAROUND
  ==
  Use gnome-tweak-tool

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead of
ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts
this workaround helps only with one of them.

[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

In next six month 14.04 will be prepared and arrived. It's LTS. So users
of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS may want to update to it.

What they have now (in Ubuntu 12.04.3)?
They have very wide choose of available hotkeys for layout change. Let's see.
In Ubuntu 12.04.3, under gnome-control-center keyboard we have (select tab
Typing, click on link Layout Settings in left bottom corner of window,
press the Options button in the bottom right corner of window, window
Keyboard Layout Options is opened).

This window allows user to set many options.
It allows to set the following:
Adding currency signs to certain keys
   Adding Esperanto circumflexes (supersigno)
   Alt/Win key behavior
   Caps Lock key behavior
   Compose key position
   Ctrl key position
   Japanese keyboard options
Key sequence to kill the X server
   Key(s) to change layout
   Key to choose 3rd level
   Key to choose 5th level
   Miscellaneous compatibility options
   Numeric keypad delete key behavior
   Numeric keypad layout selection
Use keyboard LED to show alternative layout
Using space key to input non-breakable space character

In Ubuntu 13.10 this setup window is missing.
So user will be unable to adjust many layout switching parameters.

For example, under Key(s) to change layout this window has:
  Alt+Caps Lock
  Alt+Ctrl
  Alt+Shift
  Alt+Space
  Any Win key (while pressed)
  Both Alt keys together
  Both Ctrl keys together
  Both Shift keys together
  Caps Lock
Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout)
Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action
  Ctrl+Shift
  Left Alt
  Left Alt+Left Shift
  Left Alt (while pressed)
  Left Ctrl
  Left Ctrl+Left Shift
Left Ctrl+LeftWin (to first layout), RightCtrl+Menu (to second layout)
Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout)
  Left Shift
  Left Win
Left Win (to first layout), Right Win/Menu (to last layout)
  Left Win (while pressed)
  Menu
  Right Alt
  Rigth Alt (while pressed)
  Right Ctrl
  Right Ctrl+Right Shift
  Right Ctrl (while pressed)
  Right Shift
  Right Win
  Right Win (while pressed)
  Scroll Lock
  Shift+Caps Lock
This list is very long but universal. Defined hotkeys are full-functional.
For example if I set Ctrl+Shift for layout changing I can copy and paste in
gnome-terminal with Ctrl+Shift+C / V.
I do not want to post other Keyboard Layout Options features, that missed
in 13.10. But they are of course missed.
What we have now in 13.10 (ppa:attente/1218322 or proposed)?
We have simple shortcuts (for example Alt+Shift and Ctrl+Shift) and do not
have other.

This bug report will be a table of contents of all issues, that are
called from this window and are broken/missed in Ubuntu 13.10. For
example, we can detect and report separate bugreports for each hotkey
which does not work correctly in 13.10:

[Bug 1245915] [NEW] Can't change auto login status in Ubuntu or Ubuntu GNOME Saucy

2013-10-29 Thread Erick Brunzell
Public bug reported:

I've been testing alternative DE's in both Ubuntu and Ubuntu GNOME Saucy
and I've been selecting auto-login during installation of the OS.

I now notice that going to System Settings User Accounts and changing
the automatic login status from on to off has no effect. Since it
effects both Ubuntu and Ubuntu GNOME it's also fair to say it effects
both lightdm and gdm.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

Can't set keyboard layout change to ctrl+shift, Caps Lock, alt+shift
etc. Shift, CapsLock keys are just ignored in settings. Also the
default shortcut was set to Super+Space that is inconveniently,
because Dash is opening when you swich your keyboard layout.

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
You can add some logs to this bug report by executing 'apport-collect
1245926' in terminal from installed Ubuntu Saucy.

Also - reporting bugs from running Ubuntu system is simpler. For
example, this bug may be reported with 'apport-bug gnome-control-
center'.

[Bug 1245933] Re: Gnome-settings segfault when Networking restarts

Unity probably shut down when the gnome-settings-daemon crashed (glib

[Bug 1245963] [NEW] gvfsd-afc crashes when attempting to copy a file from an iPhone using Nautilus

2013-10-29 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy) and am now unable to copy
files from my iPhone (with iOS 6) using Nautilus.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a Nautilus window.
2. Attach an iPhone. Two new entries appear under Devices in the left side
panel: iPhone name and Documents on iPhone name
3. Middle-click on the iPhone name entry (or right-click and select Open in
New Tab) to mount the iPhone file system and open a new tab.
4. Copy a file from the iPhone tab, and paste into the original tab.

At this point Nautilus shows an alert box:
Error while copying filename.
There was an error copying the into directory.
Show more details (when expanded:)
Operation not supported by backend

I don't remember if Apport prompts me to report this crash immediately
or after a certain amount of time, but I have a crash report in
/var/crash for gvfsd-afc. I'd be happy to attach it here if necessary,
though I've already reported this crash a few times; I'm sure the
developers can also find it on errors.ubuntu.com under the title gvfsd-
afc crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message().

In Nautilus, I can still copy files to the iPhone and delete files from
the iPhone; only copying files from the iPhone is not working. I can
also view pictures from my iPhone directly, and copy files from it using
Terminal (by going to the mount point in /run/user directly), so it
appears only Nautilus is affected.

Thanks!

[Bug 1245963] Re: gvfsd-afc crashes when attempting to copy a file from an iPhone using Nautilus

2013-10-29 Thread Jeffery To
There seems to be a number of bugs (bug #1208310, bug #1223509, bug
#1236119, bug #1236495) that have the same title ( gvfsd-afc crashed
with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()), but they're all marked as
duplicates of bug #1206627, which at the moment is private, so I can't
verify whether I'm experiencing the same issue.

rely on anything else to enable this, and I'll try to upload to Saucy

[Bug 1245915] Re: Can't change auto login status in Ubuntu or Ubuntu GNOME Saucy

2013-10-29 Thread Erick Brunzell
I did some testing with the new Trusty image (circa Oct 21) and I find
that if I select NOT to auto-login during installation I can
successfully change to auto-login successfully,

But once I've changed to auto-login switching it to off does NOT work.
But this is very preliminary so I need to explore further.

I'm certainly more concerned with Saucy ATM.

[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

In next six month 14.04 will be prepared and arrived. It's LTS. So users
of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS may want to update to it.

What they have now (in Ubuntu 12.04.3)?
They have very wide choose of available hotkeys for layout change. Let's see.
In Ubuntu 12.04.3, under gnome-control-center keyboard we have (select tab
Typing, click on link Layout Settings in left bottom corner of window,
press the Options button in the bottom right corner of window, window
Keyboard Layout Options is opened).

This window allows user to set many options.
It allows to set the following:
Adding currency signs to certain keys
   Adding Esperanto circumflexes (supersigno)
   Alt/Win key behavior
   Caps Lock key behavior
   Compose key position
   Ctrl key position
   Japanese keyboard options
Key sequence to kill the X server
   Key(s) to change layout
   Key to choose 3rd level
   Key to choose 5th level
   Miscellaneous compatibility options
   Numeric keypad delete key behavior
   Numeric keypad layout selection
Use keyboard LED to show alternative layout
Using space key to input non-breakable space character

In Ubuntu 13.10 this setup window is missing.
So user will be unable to adjust many layout switching parameters.

For example, under Key(s) to change layout this window has:
  Alt+Caps Lock
  Alt+Ctrl
  Alt+Shift
  Alt+Space
  Any Win key (while pressed)
  Both Alt keys together
  Both Ctrl keys together
  Both Shift keys together
  Caps Lock
Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout)
Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action
  Ctrl+Shift
  Left Alt
  Left Alt+Left Shift
  Left Alt (while pressed)
  Left Ctrl
  Left Ctrl+Left Shift
Left Ctrl+LeftWin (to first layout), RightCtrl+Menu (to second layout)
Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout)
  Left Shift
  Left Win
Left Win (to first layout), Right Win/Menu (to last layout)
  Left Win (while pressed)
  Menu
  Right Alt
  Rigth Alt (while pressed)
  Right Ctrl
  Right Ctrl+Right Shift
  Right Ctrl (while pressed)
  Right Shift
  Right Win
  Right Win (while pressed)
  Scroll Lock
  Shift+Caps Lock
This list is very long but universal. Defined hotkeys are full-functional.
For example if I set Ctrl+Shift for layout changing I can copy and paste in
gnome-terminal with Ctrl+Shift+C / V.
I do not want to post other Keyboard Layout Options features, that missed
in 13.10. But they are of course missed.
What we have now in 13.10 (ppa:attente/1218322 or proposed)?
We have simple shortcuts (for example Alt+Shift and Ctrl+Shift) and do not
have other.

This bug report will be a table of contents of all issues, that are
called from this window and are broken/missed in Ubuntu 13.10. For
example, we can detect and report separate bugreports for each hotkey
which does not work correctly in 13.10:

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1245994] [NEW] after standby my bluetooth mouse does not work

2013-10-29 Thread Rolf Reintjes
Public bug reported:

I close my Lenovo Thinkpad R61i notebook with Ubuntu 13.10 and cinnamon
and it enters standby. When I open the notebook, the system wakes up but
my bluetooth mouse Logitech M555b does not work.

As a workaround I switch the wireless switch to off and on again. After
this the mouse works fine.

With 13.04 this bug did not happen.

sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restartdoes not solve the problem.

[Bug 1246007] [NEW] Indicators disappear from panel

2013-10-29 Thread Riftyful
Public bug reported:

Every time I log in to my Ubuntu computer user profile, one or two indicators
are missing from the panel. Someitmes it's bluetooth, sometimes it's the time,
today it's the power off button. No crashes Ubuntu reports seem to be related
to this. I am running Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander 64-bit and all my packages
are up to date. 32-bit libs are installed. Gnome-panel version is
1:3.6.2-0ubuntu15. My computer specs go as follows:
Laptop : Lenovo IdeaPad B590
Processor: 2x Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1005M @ 1.90GHz
Memory: 3623MB (684MB used)
The missing indicators seem to be random every time. I can not think of
anything what would affect this.

I really wonder why there are so few developers take this kind of bugs
serious, they are a lot more important than some other like making
Nautilus so dome fancy stuff :) Everyday usage is a lot more important
that some fancy things, it is this that keeps people here or go to some

[Bug 1033034] Re: Setting the desktop background from cron no longer updates the desktop background

2013-10-29 Thread Radu Rădeanu
The croc will change the desktop background if you add in your script
before `gsettings` the following lines/commands:

PID=$(pgrep gnome-session)
export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=$(grep -z DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
/proc/$PID/environ|cut -d= -f2-)

You will not need anymore to use in your crontab rule `DISPLAY=:0`.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
