[Bug 1251087] Re: apps whose .desktop contain NoDisplay=true will not show up in Details Default applications

2013-11-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

changed the status to 'FIXED, CLOSED' even as they not have looked at

2013-11-14 Thread aanno
As I already mentioned on #1245468 I could not verify that changing
GTK_MODULES, UBUNTU_MENUPROXY, or GTK_IM_MODULE helps in any way.

However, I could verify that the problem GOES AWAYS IN KUBUNTU/KDE when
doing:

System Settings - Application Themes - GTK - Choose GTK2 Theme

Choose 'Radiance' instead of 'oxygen-gtk'

[Bug 1241101] Re: Java crash in libglib-2.0 after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

2013-11-14 Thread José Carlos Valero
Well, indeed i have to use UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= XXX in both, eclipse and
SmartSVN to get them working properly (SmartSVN closes unexpectedly, and
eclipse doesn't show menus any other way), and I have checked that in
both cases disabling ubuntu global menu solve this issue, at least in my
computer.

Maybe my comment is pointless, just to try.

Thanks for your reply aano.

2013-11-14 Thread Roman Bazalevsky
Public bug reported:

When trying to launch gnome-flashback (no effects) session from xrdp it
fails with diagnostics in log:

gnome-session-is-accelerated: No composite extension.
gnome-session-check-accelerated: Helper exited with code 256
** (process:11622): WARNING **: software acceleration check failed: Child
process exited with code 1

When starting manually gnome-panel, metacity, nautilus and other
components from .xsession - it works normally.

Looks like - unnecessary check performed (and failed).

weird, the gvfs command works fine ... do you still have the problem
with nautilus showing an empty view?

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-14 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
The packages from the Modifier-only input switch PPA work very well in
case of Unity.

I've tried all the mentioned test cases and everything worked. The Ctrl
+ Shift L set as next source shortcut doesn't collide with Terminal
shortcuts or Sublime Text 3 or LibreOffice. Also if I have Text Entry
settings open and I issue the gsettings command in terminal the shortcut
changes in those settings immediately (reflecting that change).

I don't have any other DE's except for Cairo Dock which has it's own
session but I didn't check how it works in that.

[Bug 1131664] Re: Patch the menus of the 'Calculator', 'Document Viewer' and 'System Settings' apps to fit with Unity

2013-11-14 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Here's a debdiff for evince for saucy I worked on.

What's left to do:
- port it to trusty
- make it use gtk-shell-shows-menubar instead of XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP so it can
be upstreamed
- Fix a bug where about 1 in 5 launches results in the menu items being greyed
out. Not sure if this is an issue with the patch though as with
UBUNTU_MENUPROXY it works every time.

[Bug 1247621] Re: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10

2013-11-14 Thread Justyn Butler
I believe I have found the solution to this problem, I think it was
caused by an incorrect AppArmor setup.

My home directory is not located in /home/ but the AppArmor
/etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home tunable had not been updated to reflect this as
described in:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor#Adjusting_Tunables

After adding my home directory to the @{HOME} list, or alternatively the
location to @{HOMEDIRS}, the problem with evince has gone away.

[Bug 1241309] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 has no way to change individual input method settings

2013-11-14 Thread David Shih
I discovered how to switch the keyboard layout and other preferences in
Ubuntu 13.10.

Here is what I did -
1. sudo apt-get install ibus-clutter ibus-qt4 (not sure if this step is
necessary, but I noticed these two were missing with my Ubuntu 13.10 install,
even after enabling ibus-chewing)
2. log out and log back in using gnome-shell (granted not everyone installs
gnome-shell, but I did and it's the only way I found so far)
3. you should see input method icon on top gnome panel, next to speaker icon
4. click on input method icon and select another method (e.g. bopomofo or
chewing)
5. click on the same input method icon again and you'll see Preference (for
bopomofo) and Settings (for Chewing)
From what I can tell, you can also do the same for bopomofo without
gnome-shell, by executing the following command -
python /usr/share/ibus-pinyin/setup/main.py bopomofo

Hope this helps,

David

Re: [Bug 1131664] Re: Patch the menus of the 'Calculator', 'Document Viewer' and 'System Settings' apps to fit with Unity

2013-11-14 Thread bluedxca93
Hi,
will try this patch soon.
It seems to be nearly my patche + adding unity support. I hope my
patch was a help.

I think in evince there is one big problem:
1) the menubar schould not be visible in fullscreen or presentation
mode and fix the possible fals re arranging of the menubar-/ toolbars
when leaving those.

I think the importance of your second bug is currently low. When
trusty will be stable there will be an other version than evince 3.10
so there will be a new patch.

I will test if your third bug also affects cinnamon. If it is so i
will find a way to patch it. Otherwise it's unity specific and i can`t
use unity in virtualbox with cinnamon installed.

The file-roller patch will took more time to create, i'm sure . But
perhaps you will make it. I've sucessfully patched the uploaded
source folder which compiles fine on my PC , but every time i want to
create a patch it fails for unknown reasons.

I could create some langugage file patches if you want that. 'can
understand english french and german, and i think i would be able to
re- insert some code for other european languages too.

For the moment apart from epiphany, only the main program binarys are
really different from the not patched ones. In file-roller ther is an
ugly attach menubar code which should be deleted soon )= . I'will
perhaps take a look at the gome main games section ( as gnome-mine)
soon. I'm not an programmer and i can't write anything in C or python
but the code changes for the menubar are nearly normally readable. I
now also how to wirte gtk3 css files and this is really similar.

[Bug 1247621] Re: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10

2013-11-14 Thread Benjamin ABEL
The solution provided by Justyn Butler in post #14 works for me.
My home directory is in `/media/home/`, so I've edited the
`/etc/apparmor.d/tunables` file to change the `@{HOMEDIRS}` value like this:

@{HOMEDIRS}=/home/ /media/home/

After that, you need to reload your apparmor profile:

sudo invoke-rc.d apparmor reload

And then I can type in the search fireld as expected. Thank you very
much justyn.

[Bug 1131664] Re: Patch the menus of the 'Calculator', 'Document Viewer' and 'System Settings' apps to fit with Unity

2013-11-14 Thread Marc Deslauriers
It seems to be nearly my patche + adding unity support. I hope my
patch was a help.

Yes, along with a few other fixes. I've credited you in the patch
header.

 1) the menubar schould not be visible in fullscreen or presentation
mode and fix the possible fals re arranging of the menubar-/ toolbars
when leaving those.

Yes, those are some of the issues which are fixed in my patch.

[Bug 1241309] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 has no way to change individual input method settings

2013-11-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@David: can't you just do that?

- run ibus-setup
- go to the second tab
- select the im you want
- click on preferences?

that should give you access to the preferences ... that's not the most
user friendly thing but should be easier than installing another desktop
environemtn

[Bug 1251343] [NEW] Computer screen will not wake up with notifications present

2013-11-14 Thread Jeb E.
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

When logged into my accounts, such as Facebook and Google and when I
have notifications present, specifically messages in Empathy, my
computer screen will not wake up if the computer is locked. The screen
itself notices the mouse movements and wakes up, but what I mean is that
the screen stays a dark blank color. I can't get any response from the
computer once this happens, and I have to force a reboot every time this
happens.

Please fix, I have more information if needed :)

  *** WORKAROUND ***
  ---
Install diodon, klipper, glipper, parcellite or xfce4-clipman

*** EXPLANATION OF THE BUG ***
When I copy (Ctrl + C, or right click and Copy) text from somewhere and
after that close the program where it is, the clipboard gets empty.

Steps to reproduce in gedit :
  1. Pick any text field that supports copying, copy some text.
  2. Paste into any other text field.
  3. It works.
  4. Close the source window or program.
  5. Paste now does nothing.

This bug will happen in any application that doesn't comply with the
clipboard specification from FreeDesktop.
  http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/ClipboardManager

There was also previous considerations about improving xserver-xorg
clipboard, which would reduce adaptation work from upstream projects to comply
with the specification.

That's because gtk is grabbing the mouse and/or keyboard. There's no
good way around this with xorg.

If we modify gnome-screensaver to ignore the grab fail, your password
will leak into whatever application actually has the grab when you type
it into the screensaver dialog box.

Bjoern - your wiki link fails for me.

The X clipboard system relies on the app owning the selection to provide
the data; if you close the app - that app isn't there; so it will fail.

There are various (varyingly expensive) hacks around this out there in
various desktops; that try to serialise the clipboard at various points
- I guess this could be done before exit.

Problems abound: eg. select 2^36 cells in a sheet, hit copy, exit
LibreOffice - what happens ? ;- but - that's always the way with big
sheets I guess.

Are you certain this is an unexpected bug ? :-)

[Bug 1131220] Re: [soundnua]: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in gvc_mixer_control_lookup_device_from_stream()

2013-11-14 Thread DancemasterGlenn
David, the patch has altered the nature of the crash, but I am still not
able to get into sound settings. Previously the window would open, hang,
and then crash, prompting me to file a report (which is what I did when
this started happening). Now trying to open the page opens and
immediately closes in a seg fault. It's probably for the best that we
were getting the old behavior, as this crash doesn't provide as much bug
report info off the bat...

running gnome-control-center sound simply prints out Segmentation
fault (core dumped). How can I get you more information? Something
about a backtrace, right? Can you walk me through this?

[Bug 1251519] [NEW] Close lid Do Nothing is being ignored

Public bug reported:

Close lid Do Nothing does not do nothing - the screen is turned off.

Dell XPS m1210 on Ubuntu 13.10 with version 3.8.2-0ubuntu1

None of the hacks in this thread work either:

[Bug 1241101] Re: Java crash in libglib-2.0 after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

2013-11-14 Thread aanno
Dear sirjoseca,

I rechecked this carefully. For me (as a Kubuntu/KDE user) using

export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=''

and afterwards starting eclipse makes things A LOT better but the
problem does NOT go away. I've still got spurious Java VM crashes, most
commonly with SWT 'cancel' buttons. But I have to admit that this is
relatively rare.

However, with

System Settings - Application Themes - GTK - Choose GTK2 Theme

and choosing 'Radiance' instead of 'oxygen-gtk' the problem is gone
COMPLETELY.

[Bug 1232454] Re: Often automatic suspend dialog when I unlock

2013-11-14 Thread oeloemo
Since ever it became normal for Ubuntu to, with every new release, make
1 step forward but 3 steps back, this is probably the most annoying step
backwards. Really annoying!!! I don't even know why such a message is
needed, doesn't make any sense at all. Please fix NOW.
