[Bug 1252673] [NEW] file-roller registers for Java jar files, although Java is installed

2013-11-19 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

During an upgrade of file-roller, it tried to change
/etc/gnome/default.list to place itself for the handling of Java jar
files instead of Java:

-application/x-jar=openjdk-7-java.desktop
-application/x-java-archive=openjdk-7-java.desktop
+application/x-jar=file-roller.desktop

Indeed there might still be an issue here, mpv is not listed, but it's
not recommanded in gvfs-mime --query video/x-ogm+ogg either so it
might be a different reason.

Note that the nautilus properties page lists mpv so the original GTK
bug was resolved, seems like there is another similar one issue with the
combo widget used in the settings

Hey guys! If you are like me and just use windows on a virtual
machine(virtualbox) to sync idevices , the way i found to use it is : on
ubuntu i put vboxusers in my group(users and groups). After that restart
machine and plug your idevice, when prompted to allow this computer say
no , open virtualbox and after windows load you will be prompted again
on idevice , this time say yes . There you are , ready to sync.Of course
a have created a virtual LAN between host and guest machine.

[Bug 1252818] [NEW] gnome-menus: desktop entries duplicated in Other menu

2013-11-19 Thread Ryan Tandy
Public bug reported:

gnome-menus 3.8.0 contains a bug that causes menu entries to appear in
the Other category, in addition to the expected category. This is fixed
upstream in 3.8.1 (b89833d: layout: don't use OnlyUnallocated for
sections different than Other).

Running the attached script on a system with python-gi, gnome-menus, and
gir1.2-gmenu-3.0 installed shows the spurious Other menu in saucy and
trusty; merging gnome-menus 3.8.1 makes it go away.

[Bug 1247407] [NEW] nautilus takes long time to move to rubbish bin on Kerberos/NFS4 fileshare

2013-11-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server providing NFS home shares for a few
Ubuntu 13.10 desktop computers. I'm finding that everything is working
fine until I try to move a file to the rubbish bin from my home folder,
when I do the progress bar sits at 0% for a very long time in Nautilus
and eventually the file is deleted. If I use rm from the command line or
I use the delete file option in Nautilus I get no errors and no pause.
In the server logs I get the following during this process.

Oct 23 10:41:42 office kernel: [406568.806179] RPC: AUTH_GSS upcall timed out.
Oct 23 10:41:42 office kernel: [406568.806179] Please check user daemon is
running.
Oct 23 10:42:00 office kernel: [406586.839669] RPC: AUTH_GSS upcall timed out.
Oct 23 10:42:00 office kernel: [406586.839669] Please check user daemon is
running.
Oct 23 10:42:18 office kernel: [406604.883364] RPC: AUTH_GSS upcall timed out.
Oct 23 10:42:18 office kernel: [406604.883364] Please check user daemon is
running.

Incidentally the same was happening when the desktop machines were
running Ubuntu 13.04.

I set my system up using the instructions from this blog post
http://www.danbishop.org/2012/06/02/...-server-guide/

/etc/exports (on server)
Code:
# /etc/exports: the access control list for filesystems which may be exported
# to NFS clients. See exports(5).
#
# Example for NFSv2 and NFSv3:
# /srv/homes hostname1(rw,sync,no_subtree_check)
hostname2(ro,sync,no_subtree_check)
#
# Example for NFSv4:
# /srv/nfs4gss/krb5i(rw,sync,fsid=0,crossmnt,no_subtree_check)
# /srv/nfs4/homes gss/krb5i(rw,sync,no_subtree_check)
#
/export
*(rw,fsid=0,crossmnt,insecure,async,no_subtree_check,sec=krb5p:krb5i:krb5)
/export/home *(rw,insecure,async,no_subtree_check,sec=krb5p:krb5i:krb5)
/export/Maven *(rw,insecure,async,no_subtree_check,sec=krb5p:krb5i:krb5)
I'm using autofs as per the blog post on the client machines to mount the home
shares

/etc/auto.master (On client machines)
Code:
## Sample auto.master file
# This is an automounter map and it has the following format
# key [ -mount-options-separated-by-comma ] location
# For details of the format look at autofs(5).
#
#/misc /etc/auto.misc
#
# NOTE: mounts done from a hosts map will be mounted with the
# nosuid and nodev options unless the suid and dev
# options are explicitly given.
#
#/net -hosts
#
# Include /etc/auto.master.d/*.autofs
#
#+dir:/etc/auto.master.d
#
# Include central master map if it can be found using
# nsswitch sources.
#
# Note that if there are entries for /net or /misc (as
# above) in the included master map any keys that are the
# same will not be seen as the first read key seen takes
# precedence.
#
#+auto.master
/home /etc/auto.home
/nfs /etc/auto.nfs
/etc/auto.home (On client machines)
Code:
* -fstype=nfs4,rw,hard,intr,sec=krb5 office.mavennetwork.co.uk:/home/

(3.0.2-2ubuntu7).

In modern linux distros (such as Ubuntu 13.04, 13.10, Mageia 4, Fedora
19, OpenSuse 12.3) there is no Safely remove option in Nautilus (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks2/+bug/1067876 and
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60293).

In gnome-disks Safely remove / Poweroff is appeared again (from 3.8, see
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=675542), but it does not
spin-down external USB-HDD.

In some linux distros I can spin-down my disk with udisks --detach
/dev/sdX, but it is not user-friendly.

So please, enable spin-down on the udisks side.

I understand that external SATA (and IDE) HDDs are hot-pluggable and
hot-swappable, but it is not comfortable for me to detach rotating
drive.

[Bug 890747] Re: Keyboard shortcut - Ctrl Alt Del doesn't do what most people typing it would expect

2013-11-19 Thread Christopher Townsend
Admittedly, my solution was a bit lacking for a couple of reasons.

1. The new shortcut to bring up gnome-system-monitor -p was not present in
System Settings-Keyboard-Shortcuts.
2. The old shortcut in Keyboard shortcuts to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to Log out was
still present.

This probably causes confusion for users and is kind of a bad design.
So I'm going to fix this for at least Trusty.

I will make a new shortcut in Keyboard-Shortcuts that sets Ctrl-Alt-Del
to open gnome-system-monitor -p. I will also set Log out to Disabled.
This way, it is clear to the end user what is going on here and is also
quite easy to set Ctrl-Alt-Delete back to Log out or something else
entirely.

What I need to do is ask Design which heading they want the new shortcut
to be under and what they want the wording to say.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1202049] Re: shotwell SIGABRT, database_table_prepare_update_by_id assertion assertion failed: (res == Sqlite.OK)

2013-11-19 Thread Jim Nelson
I was able to reproduce this. The steps I took were:

* Add a lot of videos to my Shotwell library
* Delete all the Shotwell thumbnails (~/.cache/shotwell/thumbs)
* In the photo.db, I did UPDATE VideoTable SET is_interpretable=0

(Note: We never recommend users modify their Shotwell database file
directly. I only did this to repro the problem.)

When I ran Shotwell, I got the error seen above.

We'll be releasing a Shotwell 0.15.1 soon. I think this fix will be a
part of it.

[Bug 1252909] [NEW] Nautilus takes no notice of my selection in File -- Properties

2013-11-19 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

1. Select directory.
2. Go to File -- Properties.
3. Nautilus shows properties of the wrong thing.

Nautilus doesn't appear to have any idea what it's doing.

Cut and Copy are also not an option so I've had to revert to the command
line!

Screenshots attached.

[Bug 1251743] Re: Nautilus doesn't refresh window afrer creation a folder

2013-11-19 Thread Timo Palomaa
Possibly related bugs?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/492598
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/1040591

Above bugs occur to me, and when they occur, it's same for all files
created in external programs. I am not sure whether this involved
folders created in Nautilus too and I don't know how to repro this.

[Bug 1251087] Re: apps whose .desktop contain NoDisplay=true will not show up in Details Default applications

2013-11-19 Thread Doug McMahon
re:mpv, my mistake, it needs more than just dropping NoDisplay=true in
show up under Videos Music though the drop is needed.

(- was able to get it to show in both by adding to mpv source /debian/mime
audio/x-vorbis+ogg; mpv %s; description=Ogg Stream
video/x-ogm+ogg; mpv %s; description=Ogg Stream;

Also added both ^ to the .desktop (along with a few more it could use.

Still see the same with shotwell viewer, doesn't show until NoDisplay is
dropped from .desktop, then immediately is there.
