[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-01-05 Thread Shahar Or
** Description changed:

  ***
The old PPA, ppa:attente/1218322 is superceded by the following one. You can
remove the old repository using ppa-purge.
  ***

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/modifier-only-input-switch. To
  install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade
  (log out, log in)

If the packages improve the situation for you, you can pin them using:

  sudo apt-mark hold compiz
  sudo apt-mark hold gnome-settings-daemon
  sudo apt-mark hold unity

If the packages don't work for you, you can purge them using:

  sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch

  === compiz ===

Impact: modifier-only key bindings need to be independent of key-press
order, there's no support for double tapping two modifier keys of the
  same type

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - holding left shift, press and release ctrl
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: possible, but highly unlikely, that some key
bindings may be triggered due to the removal of some code that would
normally prevent a possible tap from occurring.

  === unity ===

Impact: gnome-settings-daemon eats modifier-only shortcuts preventing
them from propagating down to applications

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - set the next input source key binding to ctrl+left shift
  - open gnome-terminal
  - press ctrl+shift+t
  - gnome-terminal should open a new tab

Regression potential: the additional input switch key bindings could
collide with other functionality such as opening the dash or hud

  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1266179] [NEW] When `Shift+Alt L` is for switching keyboard layouts, Shift has to be pressed first

2014-01-05 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

This is a follow-up from bug 1245926, comment 11.

In trusty, I have `Shift+Alt L` as layout switching.

Pressing the combo by first pressing the Alt key doesn't work. Only when
the Shift key is pressed first does the combo work.

[Bug 1247668] Re: NumLock turned off on layout switch

2014-01-05 Thread Sümegi Csaba
I also experienced this weird NumLock state described by Egmont (5 is a
digit, the rest are cursor keys).

I only use one keyboard layout (Hungarian) and don't want to switch it to any
other, thus I deleted the English one in the System Settings / Text Entry.
But after startup my keyboard layout is mostly set to English (which is also
described by others, e.g.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/362973/keyboard-layout-switches-to-english-each-time-i-reboot).

Setxkbmap shows the following:
$ setxkbmap -query
rules: evdev
model: pc105
layout: us

So I have to manually switch to Hungarian either by
1.) clicking on the only Hungarian item in the keyboard indicator,
(Setxkbmap shows:
rules: evdev
model: pc105
layout: hu,us
variant:, )

2.) or entering setxkbmap hu in the terminal.
(Setxkbmap shows:
rules: evdev
model: pc105
layout: hu )

But after this and using any modifier key (e.g. switching tasks with Alt+Tab or
switching desktops with Ctrl+Alt+cursors) I face the mentioned inconsistent
numpad state.
BTW numlockx says:
$ numlockx status
Numlock is on

Since I have to do the layout switching only once after startup I
overcame this faulty behavior with a script starting automatically after
login, as follows:

#!/bin/sh
setxkbmap hu
numlockx off
numlockx on

[Bug 1265489] Re: others menu entry is full of everything

2014-01-05 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

Is it maybe possible to check if this upstream patch fixes this bug?
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-menus/commit/?id=6e7790b

On my ppa (matttbe/ppa), I just added a new version of gnome-menus which should
fix this bug. You can test it by using these commands:
   sudo add-apt-repository ppa:matttbe/ppa
   sudo apt-get update
   sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If you don't want to add my ppa (there are (bug-fix versions of) other
packages), you can simply download and install these packages:
For 32 bits:
  *
https://launchpad.net/~matttbe/+archive/ppa/+build/5413014/+files/libgnome-menu-3-0_3.8.0-1ubuntu5.1_i386.deb

  *
https://launchpad.net/~matttbe/+archive/ppa/+build/5413014/+files/gir1.2-gmenu-3.0_3.8.0-1ubuntu5.1_i386.deb
For 64 bits:

[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2014-01-05 Thread Sean Fitzpatrick
Doing a Google search on this issue led me to this report, as well as the
following blog post:
http://www.humans-enabled.com/2013/10/ubuntu-1310-enable-controlaltbackspace.html
The author points out that it's possible to access all of these options from a
terminal. (Although it would be nice it the GUI was still there...) The command

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

brings up a pretty straightforward interface that takes you though about
half a dozen keyboard options (compose key, etc). The last option is
whether or not to enable Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.

[Bug 1264472] Re: 05ac:12a9 [Medion E7218] Can't pair iPad / iOS7 with Ubuntu via USB

2014-01-05 Thread Stephen Kun
Sorry, my mistake - chose the x386 kernel to match my Intel processor. Actually
needed the amd64 kernel.
With the correct kernel, I was able to verify that the bug exists in the latest
upstream kernel.

[Bug 1215098] [NEW] iPhone with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

2014-01-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Devices running iOS 7 now have a USB Pair Trust prompt that appears when
the device is plugged into a machine. This prompt reads Trust This
Computer? Your settings and data will be accessible from this computer
when connected via USB or Wi-Fi. [Trust] [Don't Trust]

Repro:
1) Plug powered-on Apple device with iOS 7 into Ubuntu USB port

Expected results:
The device should pair with the Ubuntu machine when Trust is tapped.

Actual results:
When plugged into an Ubuntu machine, when the Trust button on the prompt is
clicked, the iPhone buzzes twice, then repeats the prompt. This will repeat
endlessly.

On the Ubuntu machine, a dialog reading The device [name of device]
is locked. Enter the passcode on the device and click Try again.
[Cancel] [Try again] is displayed. However, no opportunity to enter the
passcode on the device is ever displayed. Clicking Try again only re-
displays this dialog, endlessly.

2014-01-05 Thread Steve Langasek
This is clearly a misbuild of *both* packages:
/usr/share/locale/sl/LC_MESSAGES/.mo should not exist in either package.
Logan, this looks like a bug that was introduced by your changes to use
dh-autoreconf. Please fix this.

my guess is that whilst previously neither gettext nor autopoint were
enabled for the package. But now gettext was, possibly generating this
unpleasant .mo side effect.

[Bug 1207812] Re: [Sony VGN-SR29XN_S] Iphone with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

2014-01-05 Thread Yun Daniels
Hi Iuri Diniz,

I've tried to install the updated version of libimobiledevice that you
posted via the .deb file, and it gives me the following error:

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libgnutls26 (= 2.12.17-0)

Is there any fix that you would know of?
