[Bug 1232454] Re: Computer will suspend very soon because of inactivity. dialog when resuming from suspend
I second pdknsk's suggestion. There might be some rare situation in which a notification before going to sleep could be helpful, but in a typical scenario, being inactive implies that a user is not watching the screen anyway. On the other hand, I suppose that users that are silently reading on the screen would actually be pleased by a notification. Having them in mind, I would suggest to replace the notification window with an onscreen message through empathy. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1232454 Title: Computer will suspend very soon because of inactivity. dialog when resuming from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1232454/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1270555] [NEW] The Text Entry dialog shows invalid keyboard shortcuts to change layout
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu Trusty: Clicking the Text entry settings on indicator-keyboard opens the Text Entry configuration panel. However, this panel shows two keybindings to switch between keyboard layouts which are unusable in their default setting: - Switch to next source using: Super + Space - Switch to previous source using: Shift + Super + Space Changing the combo to any which doesn't include the Super key works- around the problem. I'm speculating that this happens because Compiz/Unity incercepts the Super key since it is used to manage its shortcuts. ** Affects: indicator-keyboard Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: indicator-keyboard (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: indicator-keyboard (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: + On Ubuntu Trusty: + Clicking the Text entry settings on indicator-keyboard opens the Text Entry configuration panel. [Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard
Unfortunately, the options mentioned by Sean Fitzpatrick do not include the option for Shift with Numeric Keypad works as in MS Windows. I am quite certain that there are a number of other options that different users require that are not found in the terminal version of the reconfiguration package. I am not the most technical of people, so I may get something wrong: 1/ Reading the above posts, I am under the impression that this option was removed in the name of simplification by upstream Gnome. If this is right, then there are two options: - Upstream Gnome should change back and include the options as part of the keyboard layout definition utility. - If Upstream Gnome will not make the change, then Ubuntu should include this as part of their configuration. 2/ Unless there is new information of which we are not aware, Upstream Gnome has not committed to reverting the change. 3/ Given that 14.04 is due to be released in 3 months or so, and any changes need to be tested, I would like to suggest that a utility to manage the keyboard setup should be developed for Ubuntu. I'm not so sure that it should be in the Unity Tweak tools, since the supported derivatives (Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Gnubuntu, etc.) do not use Unity and therefore may not install the tweak tools for Unity. 4/ In an ideal world, the utility would be included as part of the default installation, but there may be compelling reasons (space) why this may not be possible. If the goal is still to be able to install using a CD, then the ideal world would probably not be achievable. 5/ Whatever the outcome, two things are clear: - There needs to be a solution that includes an easy, GUI-based option to configure the various options on the keyboard, and - If the change is not reverted by Upstream Gnome, then it is a change that needs to be properly documented and easily accessible in the Release Notes for Ubuntu 14.04. There are a lot of us who use various keyboard configuration options and in order to continue being able to do so, we should not have to resort to 'hand editing' configuration files to use functionality that has been easily available for as long as I've used ubuntu (six years). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1245064 Title: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/1245064/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard
Thank you for your comment, Flavelle. I totally agree with you. As GNOME developers say - they moved all keyboard settings from gnome-control-center keyboard to gnome-tweak-tool (Typing section). But gnome-tweak-tool is not included to default Ubuntu installation. For example, gnome-tweak-tool has aforementioned option Shift with Numeric Keypad works as in MS Windows. [Bug 1270574] [NEW] keyboard layout settings must be consistent between gnome-control-center keyboard, indicator-keyboard and gnome-tweak-tool
Public bug reported: Dear Ubuntu developers. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will be released very soon. It seems that it will be based on GNOME 3.8 or 3.10 (you know exact version). It seems that because of modern GNOME Ubuntu users will have very reduced set of keyboard layout options. Previous Ubuntu LTS version (12.04) was based on GNOME 3.4 and have very wide spectrum of keyboard layout options. But in newer GNOME versions, on which for example, Ubuntu 13.10 is based, this options are very limited. Many options are moved from gnome-control-center keyboard to gnome- tweak-tool (see bug 1245064). I have suggested already to include gnome-tweak-tool in default Ubuntu 14.04 installation (see bug 1270572). But for now it seems that settings between gnome-tweak-tool, gnome-control-center and indicator-keyboard are not consistent. For example, if I set Use keyboard LED to show alternative layout to Scroll Lock on Typing section of gnome-tweak-tool the Scroll Lock does not indicate alternative keyboard layout as expected (it is a bug). So please, keep settings between gnome-tweak-tool, gnome-control-center and indicator-keyboard consistent. Thank you for good news, Phillip! For what devices do you have safely remove option? If it is USB-flash - did LED on it switched off after Safely Remove? If it is USB-HDD - did it spinned-down after Safely Remove? I tested 3 flashes and 2 USB-HDDs on Ubuntu 13.10 on Unity session. Unity launcher and Nautilus showed Safely Remove only for my HDDs. Let's use GNOME Disks 3.0.2 (as in Ubuntu 12.04.3) as example - it uses UDisks v.1 and I'm able to do safely remove (power off) of USB-flash or spin-down USB-HDD. OpenSuse 13.1 has gnome-disk-utility 3.10.0 UDisks 2.1.1 (built against 2.1.1) - this version has Safely remove functionality but it seems that is broken. What I mean by 'broken'? If I do Safely remove (press Power off the drive button) of USB-flash - it works correctly - so after Safely remove LED on flash is off. If I do Safely remove of USB-HDD - it works incorrectly - it does not spin-down my HDD. If I manually to a Safely remove from console with 'udisks --detach /dev/sdX' - LED on my flash is off and my USB-HDD is spinned down. So gnome-disks have a bug with Safely remove of USB-HDD. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Connect USB-HDD to your PC running Fedora 20 2. Do some work on USB-HDD partition(s) 3. Try to do Safely remove of USB-HDD with gnome-disks. Actual Results: After safely remove USB-HDD is not spinned-down (keep rotating), removed from system (there is no USB-HDD lsusb) and will spin-down only by disconnecting USB-cable. Expected Results: After Safely remove USB-HDD is spinned-down (not rotating) and may be safely removed. I understand that USB-mass storage devices may be safely detached from computer after unmount (and sync) and that USB-HDD with SATA interface are hot-pluggable and hot-swappable. But why safely remove functionality is removed in the newest versions of udisks (and Nautilus, Gnome Disks)? For me it’s more comfortable to detach USB-flash with switched off LED and spinned-down USB-HDD. The only one working method for safe detaching of USB-device is to call “udisks --detach /dev/sdXN”, but it does not user-friendly and modern GNU/Linux distros does not have udisks v.1 pre-installed (if I remember correctly - Fedora 20, OpenSuSe 12.3, may be others). Recently I have brought external USB 3.0 HDD (Western Digital My Passport Ultra 2 TB), it has WD Utilities for Windows. This WD Utilities has special option (in windows tray) for doing Safely remove of the HDD. How it works? It spins HDD down, switch off the LED and suggests to detach USB cable after that. So WD, the 1st HDD manufacturer spins-down their HDD before unplugging (it seems that Ejecting unmounted drive it is not enough for them). Safely remove for this HDD is working as expected on Ubuntu 12.04.3 too (in both Nautilus and palimpsest). [Bug 906081] Re: Disabling 'Login without a password' does not remove user from the nopasswdlogin group
This was with a fresh saucy install (Nov 23 2013). I added a new user using gnome-control-center without setting a password. Then the admin set the password for the user, removing the automatic login toggle. Though, the user remained in the nopasswdlogin group, so it could login without any password. No indication of this was shown in gnome-control-center. By manually removing the user from that group (deluser xxx nopasswdlogin), the issue was resolved for that user. So this bug report is about not removing the user from the nopasswdlogin group. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/906081 Title: Disabling 'Login without a password' does not remove user from the nopasswdlogin group To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/906081/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
