That this is really an issue is covered in the original bug description.
Since edge-scrolling is both less familiar and more difficult, it should
be a fallback when two-finger scrolling is not possible, not the other
way around.

[Bug 190213] Re: Enable Meta SearchReplace across all open tabs

2014-02-03 Thread Peter Belmont
The FIND or FINDREPLACE features now (gedit 3.4.1) perform TWO functions
(only) (marked ** below)
For full generality, GEDIT should provide FIVE functions, shown below.

The issues are these:
[A] Are search-string remembered on a per-file basis of for all files
[B] Does search/replace operate on a per-file basis or over all files

Maybe there could be a switch to say whether find-search-string should be
REMEMBERED for ONE file or for ALL files.
Maybe there could be a switch to say whether find/replace-strings should be
REMEMBERED for ONE file or for ALL files.
Maybe there could be a switch to say whether find/replace ALL should
OPERATE over ONE file or over ALL files.

The present offering (see two items marked **) is a bit schizophrenic:

** [1] find in present file
remember search string in-and-for the present file only.

[2] searchreplace in present file
remember search/repleace strings in-and-for the present file only.

[3] find in present file
remember search string in-and-for ALL files (so searching can proceed file
by file on same search string)

** [4] searchreplace in present file
remember search/repleace strings in-and-for ALL files only.

[5] searchreplace in ALL files
remember search/repleace strings in-and-for ALL files.

[Bug 1275856] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when renaming items on Samba share.

2014-02-03 Thread JaSauders
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit
Fully updated

When I connect to my samba server (Ubuntu Server 12.04.4 64 bit), I am
able to create and move files around. I tried to rename a directory and
it crashed. It crashes, seemingly, 100% of the time when I try to rename
the directory. In paritcular, the relevant line of syslog is:

Feb 3 12:37:53 JS-Z835 kernel: [ 203.805694] nautilus[3952]: segfault
at 20 ip 00430e7f sp 7fff70930fb0 error 4 in
nautilus[40+153000]

The above results are on a Toshiba ultrabook. I duplicated this on a
separate laptop by Lenovo, but also with Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit and fully
updated. The only relevant line I saw of the syslog on that system is:

Feb 3 12:45:00 JS-E430 kernel: [ 40.812722] nautilus[1981]: segfault
at 30 ip 00430e7f sp 7fff91bbf280 error 4 in
nautilus[40+153000]

What is admittedly a little strange is when I was about to submit this
report, I hopped back on the network share and for a handful of times I
was able to rename a few directories without issue. I exited Nautilus,
re-opened it, and now it's crashing again. Just wanted to notate that as
it seemed as if it wasn't immediately replicable.

If there is any sort of testing I can do please let me know. Thank you!

[Bug 1275856] Re: Nautilus crashes when renaming items on Samba share.

2014-02-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 1275856] Re: Nautilus crashes when renaming items on Samba share.

2014-02-03 Thread JaSauders
I tried to open it with the submit report utility, but it does nothing.
It asks me if I want to report it, I hit continue, and nothing else
happens after that. Same thing happened when I launched it via terminal
as you suggested. Apport is enabled. Instead I'm attaching it here. Hope
that's okay.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-02-03 Thread Dmitry Pashkevich
Something broke for me too! Every time I boot the system, my preferred
Alt+Shift doesn't work.

In `Text Entry Settings`, I can still see my Alt+Shift, but it doesn't
work. Erasing the shorctut and setting it again doesn't work.

However, the following series of steps makes the shortcut work again:
1) Go to `Keyboard Settings`-Typing-Switch to next source and try to re-set
the shortcut from there, see it ignore your keystrokes and get set to
`Disabled`.
2) Now go back to `Text Entry Settings` and set Alt+Shift again. After that,
the key combo to switch layouts starts working again... until next reboot

Unfortunately, I have to do this on every reboot now. Hope the issue
gets fixed soon

[Bug 1275966] [NEW] Gnome Flashback (Metacity and Compiz) experience lags in displaying selected wallpaper

2014-02-03 Thread Bob Filipiak
Public bug reported:

Using an alpah build of Trusty Gnome, I experience a time lag when i use
the Flashback option for Gnome.

Gnome (standard) will almost immediately display the wallpaper.

Gnome Classic will display the selected wallpaper after about a one
second delay.

Gnome Flashback (Metacity) will display the panels (I have three, top,
left side and bottom) after about one secoind, but it may take more than
two minutes for the selected wallpaper to be displayed. During this
time, any attempt to use the 'desktop' results is severe delays in
redrawing the screen. i.e. Closing a window will display nested boxes
correlating to the reducing window. Once the wallpaper is displayed,
desktop reaction returns to normal.

Gnome Flashback (Compiz) will just display a gray-black screen, which
refuses to respond to any input except the 3-finger-salute (CTL-ALT-
DEL). Using a liove CD, I was able to extract the Xorg.log so I may be
able to include it.

Reviewing the attached Xorg logs, not the lengthy delays in setting up
the screen type for 'X'. The Compiz log was terminated after 224 seconds
(more than 3-1/2 minutes) with a gray-black screen.

--- I do not know if this is in any way related to another bug filed
today as a result of an apport lof (#1275953) by me.

[Bug 1201095] Re: gnome-panel crashes after launching steam game (Thomas was alone)

2014-02-03 Thread Spindizzy
I've tried both Kerbal Space Program v 0.22.0 and v 0.23.0, installed
direct, not through Steam.

Both of the programs trigger the same fault in gnome-panel.

Neither of the KSP programs triggered the problem prior to my upgrading
to Ubuntu 13.10.

The problem is definitely repeatable, at will.

$ apt-cache policy gnome-panel
gnome-panel:
  Installed: 1:3.6.2-0ubuntu15
  Candidate: 1:3.6.2-0ubuntu15
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.6.2-0ubuntu15 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

If you need any further information, I'd be happy to try and get it for
you.

** Attachment added: Stdout/Stderr from gnome-panel, while running Kerbal
Space Program v0.23.0

[Bug 1224217] Re: 50_ubuntu_sessions.patch causes gnome-flashback sessions not to load

2014-02-03 Thread Tim
I had a super quick look into why this buggy when identifying as Unity

gnome-panel.desktop and nautilus-classic.desktop, will need to have
Unity added to OnlyShowIn.

Still indicators won't load, this is probably something similar, but not
sure where that would be controlled from?

[Bug 1224217] Re: 50_ubuntu_sessions.patch causes gnome-flashback sessions not to load

2014-02-03 Thread Tim
I will also add, that using Unity, should mean you will load Unity-
control-center and unity-settings-daemon (once it happens ), which will
be required since legacy code in the gnome- packages will be dropped
once the forking is complete.
