I test the shortcat Alt+Shift.
It works only if shift pressed before alt. Pressing alt - pressing shift -
releasing in any order does not work.
With best regards.

[Bug 1203592] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C

2014-02-21 Thread mmalmeida
From the discussion in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/971061/comments/130
a few worhtwile considerations:

- It is said that this is caused by UEFI bug though, since Samsung's special
hardware features are disabled in UEFI mode.
- It therefore only affects Samsung models running in UEFI mode (which is
required for dual booting)

I'm trying to track down the UEFI problem. Any relevant information on the
status of that is appreciated!

[Bug 997370] Re: Totem does not use the va-api gstreamer backend

2014-02-21 Thread madbiologist
julius - Isn't that a Haswell processor? Ubuntu 13.04 was released with
version 1.0.17-1 of the va-api driver. According to
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libva/2012-November/001420.html
Haswell support was not added until version 1.0.19 of the va-api driver.

According to http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/gstreamer-
devel/2013-April/040527.html MPEG-4:2 support was present in gstreamer-
va-api 0.5.3 (earlier than I mentioned in comment #11). MPEG4 support
seems to have been present since the original gstreamer-va-api release,
but I'm unsure of which part of MPEG4.

2014-02-21 Thread Kom-Si
Not quite so, @Viktor Mileikovskyi (v-mil). It depends on which button
you press first when setting the shortcut. I.e. it could be both
Shift+Alt L or Alt+Shift L (see screenshot). I have only two input
sources: English and Russian. So I set Shift+Alt L for next input and
Alt+Shift L for previous. Works like a charm, no matter which I press
first. Cheers...

Wherever the the setting is left, the next time I boot the brightness
has changed; usually to ~47%, sometimes 100%

Using a Dell Vostro 1720, dual booting Win7 Pro and Ubuntu 13.10
Plenty of hard drive available, plenty of ram available!

Just boot into 13.10, click onto 'Brightness|Lock', pull brightness bar
to ~66% and then return to use the m/c.

shut down sometime later, Just boot into 13.10, click onto
'Brightness|Lock', and lo behold bar now at typically ~47%

Sometimes do not have to shut down, brightness just changes.

gnome-settings-daemon (3.8.6.1-0ubuntu9)
unity-control-center (14.04.3+14.04.20140220.2-0ubuntu1)

[Bug 1283235] [NEW] unhidable panel in presentation mode

2014-02-21 Thread Arthur Zalevsky
Public bug reported:

When evince is used not in Unity but with other WMs (wmfs tiling WM in
my case) menu panel which should be located in global menu is unhidable
even in presentation mode (see attached screenshot). I've tested evince
3.10.0 from Debian Sid and everything is fine so I presume that it's an
Ubuntu specific issue.

[Bug 1283269] [NEW] Rhythmbox does not display notifications and doesn't display details and cover of played song in Sound Indicator

2014-02-21 Thread ionash.
Public bug reported:

Earlier version of Rhythmbox (2.9x) showed the notifications about
played music track (title, cover, etc), but with Rhythmbox 3.x there is
no notifications at all. Also Sound Indicator displays no information
about the currently playing track (like in the screenshots) - instead of
cover there is circle of dots (changing in square when hovering mouse on
it).

[Bug 33288]

2014-02-21 Thread Brian Ewins
(In reply to comment #70)

(I originally replied on launchpad, which is supposed to copy it through
to here, but it hasn't.)

Carlos: it isn't a regression that lines outside a rectangle formed by
the start and endpoints are included, it's the intent.

Consider selecting in a document with two columns, starting in the 1st
column 2/3 down the page, ending in the 2nd column 1/3 down the page. In
this case, the correct selection consists entirely of lines that lie
outside the rectangle formed by the start and endpoints (ie, the bottom
1/3 of the 1st column and the top 1/3 of the 2nd column).

You get situations like this even for single column text; just choose
start and end points vertically above each other.

The motivation for this patch was that text selection by rectangles is
fundamentally wrong. The correct approach is to reconstruct the reading
order of text; then from two points on the page, find the nearest
insertion points (where an edit cursor would go); swap the insertion
points if necessary; then return the characters between them. The
difficulties lie in inferring the reading order, and determining what
'nearest insertion point' means.

Clicking inside a word, the nearest insertion point is obvious; it's the
nearest character boundary. Click in a blank area, and it's less clear.
In Breuel's algorithms that I used for determining reading order, there
is something that helps here. There, line width is determined by
expanding the line left and right to fit the column it contains. So the
line 'box' contains the initial indent if it is the first line of a
paragraph, or the trailing space in the last line; or the ragged space
for left- or right- justified text.

Poppler doesn't have columns as such, but blocks instead, and as I
recall the line boxes are the tight bounding box of the words contained
in the line. So we can try to determine insertion point by looking for
the nearest block (horizontally and vertically), then the nearest line
(vertically ONLY, so that we ignore indents/ragged space), then nearest
character (horizontally). I mean these to be three different
comparisons, discarding blocks, line and character candidates at each
stage, not some single distance you sum up. The upshot would be that
clicking in blank areas of a line that lie within its block's bounding
box - or even nearby - will choose that line, not the one above or
below.

(It's been ages since I looked at the poppler code, I can't remember if
this heuristic is what the patches do already)
