[Bug 1286022] [NEW] Right-click menu's font is wrong
Public bug reported: I have set the default system font to be 8 pt. However when I right-click within a Gedit document the menu is shown in 11 pt. font. I think it's a bug. Unfortunately while the right-click menu is open in Gedit I cannot make any screenshot - neither of the program window, nor of the desktop itself. Hi Attila. The patch only enables the menubar when the Gtk/shell-shows- menubar xsetting is set. That means, only on desktop environments that show the menu bar outside of the application's window. I've selected xubuntu to install (which should be irrelevant, since it seems to be a problem of the base os installation). Although I've chosen the german version and ran through the usual keyboard detection (which correctly found de nodeadkeys and correctly setup /etc/default/keyboard), the system lacks german keytables and comes up with english keyboards. The keyboard configuration in X11 (XFCE) also lists the english keyboard only. Since the default settings of XFCE is to not use own keyboard tables but those of the underlying system, X11 comes up with english settings as well. Overriding the system settings in XFCE's keyboard configuration allows to manually select german keymaps, which work. But that's not the idea and rather a workaround. However, I did not yet figure out how to manually fix that the console level Linux does not have the german keymap. So it's not a problem of X11/XFCE. It is a problem of the console level linux environment. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: bot-comment -- 14.04 installation does not install german keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1286103 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 1286103] Re: 14.04 installation does not install german keyboard
ubuntu-bug does not work. It complains that gnome-control-center is not installed and thus data cannot be collected. Which is correct, as I said, I've installed xubuntu. And, I doubt that it has anything at all to do with X11 and above, since - as I said - it is a console problem. Why did you attach this to gnome-control-center? This is wrong. BTW, apport-collect does not work out of the box, the package python- apport (and obviously a dependency) is missing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1286103 Title: 14.04 installation does not install german keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1286103/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Based on of my knowledge I have tried to verify the requirements requested by Jamie Strandboge: a1) the environment and /tmp/at-spi2/: considering what I have discovered a way to change the environment connected to the '/tmp/at-spi2/' is to define XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, but this variable is not defined, the command env|grep XDG produce: XDG_SESSION_COOKIE=023e99a7ae9aa1d1d49fde230008-1393614529.236409-511883369 XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/xdg/xdg-gnome-shell:/etc/xdg XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share/gnome-shell:/usr/share/gnome:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/ XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME This is certainly not exhaustive but that's what I was able to discover about this a2) why is evince trying to chmod it? I don't know the internal reasons of evince but this operation is always done even when it is launched from the command without opening a pdf file directly. I made an strace of evince launch from commnad line, a simple evince, and these are the interesting lines: ... recvmsg(11, 0x7fff3dbbb490, MSG_CMSG_CLOEXEC) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable) eventfd2(0, O_NONBLOCK|O_CLOEXEC) = 12 write(12, \1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0, 8)= 8 fstat(11, {st_mode=S_IFSOCK|0777, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 fcntl(11, F_GETFL) = 0x802 (flags O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) write(4, \1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0, 8) = 8 brk(0x7f6836ff) = 0x7f6836ff brk(0x7f6836fef000) = 0x7f6836fef000 sendmsg(11, {msg_name(0)=NULL, msg_iov(2)=[{l\1\1\1Y\0\0\0\2\0\0\0\177\0\0\0\1\1o\0\25\0\0\0/org/fre..., 144}, {T\0\0\0type='signal', interface='or..., 89}], msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, MSG_NOSIGNAL) = 233 sendmsg(11, {msg_name(0)=NULL, msg_iov(2)=[{l\1\1\1d\0\0\0\3\0\0\0\177\0\0\0\1\1o\0\25\0\0\0/org/fre..., 144}, {_\0\0\0type='signal', interface='or..., 100}], msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, MSG_NOSIGNAL) = 244 sendmsg(11, {msg_name(0)=NULL, msg_iov(2)=[{l\1\0\0010\0\0\0\4\0\0\0\202\0\0\0\1\1o\0\37\0\0\0/org/a11..., 152}, {\5\0\0\0:1.38\0\0\0\37\0\0\0/org/a11y/atspi/..., 48}], msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, MSG_NOSIGNAL) = 200 * mkdir(/tmp/at-spi2/, 01777) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) * chmod(/tmp/at-spi2/, 01777) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied) socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM|SOCK_CLOEXEC, 0) = 13 * stat(/tmp/at-spi2/socket-4587-1804289383, 0x7fff3dbbb550) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) setsockopt(13, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, [1], 4) = 0 * bind(13, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp/at-spi2/socket-4587-1804289383}, 37) = 0 listen(13, 30) = 0 fcntl(13, F_GETFL) = 0x2 (flags O_RDWR) fcntl(13, F_SETFL, O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) = 0 * chmod(/tmp/at-spi2/socket-4587-1804289383, 0777) = 0 open(/dev/urandom, O_RDONLY) = 14 read(14, \320\262\323\266\243\246\206\214\331G\v\330, 12) = 12 close(14) = 0 fstat(13, {st_mode=S_IFSOCK|0777, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 fcntl(13, F_GETFL) = 0x802 (flags O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) write(4, \1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0, 8) = 8 openat(AT_FDCWD, /usr/lib/evince/4/backends, O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY|O_CLOEXEC) = 14 getdents(14, /* 14 entries */, 32768) = 584 open(/usr/lib/evince/4/backends/dvidocument.evince-backend, O_RDONLY) = 15 ... only five lines marked with '*' contain a reference to /tmp/at-spi2 folder That's all for now. [Bug 1286442] [NEW] Inserting an empty CD-R or DVD(+/-)R always results in a Could not mount dialog popping up
Public bug reported: Inserting an empty CD-R or DVD(+/-)R often results in a Could not mount dialog popping up on top of the what do you want to do with this thing you've inserted? one. [Bug 1263591] Re: Add notification-area to panel-default-layout.layout
OK Dmitry and thank you for trying it, but in my opinion if the ibus keyboard indicator is shown twice, that's an ibus bug and not a gnome-panel bug, and it should be solved by making that setting default to false: $ grep systray /etc/dconf/db/ibus.d/00-upstream-settings show-icon-on-systray=true Also, none of those 2 keyboard indicators get updated when using the xorg combination to switch keyboard layouts, so they should be removed anyway and be replaced by something that works before 14.04 gets released, it would be a major regression if the keyboard indicator is not working in an LTS release... What I mean is that ibus bugs shouldn't affect this one. That said, if nm-applet and pidgin get fixed for 14.04, notification-area isn't that important anymore... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263591 Title: Add notification-area to panel-default-layout.layout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/1263591/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 1263591] Re: Add notification-area to panel-default-layout.layout
That is not two ibus indicators, that is one ibus indicator and one keyboard-indicator. I don't think we should disable it, as users of other DEs may need it.

[Bug 1263591] Re: Add notification-area to panel-default-layout.layout
That said, if nm-applet and pidgin get fixed for 14.04, notification- area isn't that important anymore... I tried manually applying the patch for nm-applet, it works fine. Pidgin works fine too, after playing a bit with its settings. So yup notification-area isn't that important anymore. Dmitry many gnome-panel bugs were fixed recently, thanks! The only major blocker left for deploying 14.04 with gnome-panel now, is the keyboard indicator not responding to xorg keyboard layout switches, the rest issues left are either small ones or workarounds for them exist.
