[Bug 1291837] [NEW] System Date and Time when set to IST - NTP gives incorrect system time

2014-03-13 Thread Ayan
Public bug reported:

Steps:

1. Install Ubuntu
2. Log in
3. Change System Date/Time to Kolkatta - India
4. Choose NTP option (automatically get system date/time from Internet)

This needs to be corrected as NTP should pull up the correct system time

[Bug 1207812] Re: iOS 7, Trust Prompt Looping

2014-03-13 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Thanks Matthias for offering the PPA and subscribing the Sponsors team!
I've now tried to make a better git snapshot branch based on the current
Ubuntu packaging branch. I can't do testing on my own since I don't have
iDevices, so could you please give tests reports after doing the
following:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:timo-jyrinki/libimobiledevice
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

(or the same graphically)

In the PPA there's now a version 1.1.5+git20140313.bafe6a9e-
0ubuntu1~trusty1~test1, which is same as bzr22 in my Bazaar branch.

This bug would need to be modified to follow the Feature Freeze
Exception process:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess#FeatureFreeze_Exceptions
- but one of the requirements for the exception consideration are test
results, so let's get them first.

--

If you want to downgrade later on, you can:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:timo-jyrinki/libimobiledevice

[Bug 1287341] [NEW] Touchscreen controls both screens in dual-monitor setup

2014-03-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My laptop has a touchscreen. It works fine in 14.04 until I plug in an
external monitor. When using an external monitor, input from the
touchscreen is remapped so that the touchscreen provides input to both
monitors. The result is that there is no longer a 1:1 correspondence
between moving your finger and the cursor. This is confusing and
difficult to use.

A touchscreen is a direct input device (vs an indirect one like a
mouse/touchpad); input from the touchscreen should be bound to the
physical display that it's attached to.

To reproduce:
1) On a computer with a touchscreen, use the touchscreen to move a window
around, including to the edges of the screen. Note that the window moves
exactly with your finger.
2) Plug in an external monitor
3) Try the same actions as in step 1

Expected results:
The touchscreen continues to operate as in step 1, allowing you to manipulate
items on the display that contains the touchscreen. The touchscreen does not
interact with windows, etc on the external monitor

Actual results:
The touchscreen is remapped across both displays. The result is that touch
events no longer happen 'under the finger'. Assuming the two displays are the
same size and resolution, moving your finger 1cm will cause the window or other
objects to move 2cm onscreen. It becomes impossible to use the touchscreen to
interact with widgets (menus, buttons, etc).

This is described in couple places:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/51445/how-do-i-calibrate-a-touchscreen-on-a-dual-monitor-system

[Bug 221112]

2014-03-13 Thread Dominique Meeùs
More arguments in favor of reverting to an normal behaviour of Ctrl-R:
-- Most computers in most operating systems, languages (including French until
recently), desktops... have two identical Ctrl keys. It is queer to have French
keyboards doing otherwise since a few years.
-- Like having two Shift keys, two Ctrl keys are better for easy fast typing.

By the way, breaking the French keyboard breaks the Belgian keyboard
too.

[Bug 221112]

2014-03-13 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
I spent a couple days extremely disappointed to have a broken right
[CTRL] key on a french keyboard on recent Arch installs, thus being
unable to use VirtualBox properly, and googling around (and let me tell
you that my googling showed me a *lot* of french people are really upset
with this as well) I finally found out that this breakage comes from
this commit :

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-
config/commit/symbols/fr?id=518c769df2e9ce70cb721769a08b81504f243b2a

Let me tell you that this breakage of right [CTRL], assigning it to
ANOTHER function than right [CTRL] is completely inappropriate and
upsetting.

I therefore hereby specifically request this absurd modification to be
reverted.

[Bug 221112]

2014-03-13 Thread Colomban Wendling
(In reply to comment #50)
Could someone create poll on some french(belgian) web site, linux-oriented.
 Which behavior would be preferable?

Is this even necessary? I mean, the change wasn't made in the first
place because an user wasn't happy with the state, but because some apps
couldn't handle it. And nowadays, at least some of those apps
(Rhythmbox, Totem, …) have been fixed or altered in a way they do not
suffer from it anymore, actually mostly nullifying the original point.

Also, what a poll would do? This looks like a pretty subtle problem to me, and
an uneducated user couldn't really tell. As far as they are concerned, I would
think they just want everything working.
Even me, if you ask I would say (as in my previous reply) just fix the
XLookupString while keeping the original mapping, since IIUC it would fix
everybody's issue. But I have no real clue whether it's a pertinent answer or
not.

2014-03-13 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
(In reply to comment #50)
Could someone create poll on some french(belgian) web site, linux-oriented.
 Which behavior would be preferable?

A poll would be pointless as its representativeness would be very hard to
determine.
Most users don't care as long as it works and may not even know there is a
poll somewhere.

The matter is : French keyboard have, and have always had since the PC
keyboards exist (that makes 30 years), 2 similar [CTRL] keys that have
the same printed label and are expected to exhibit the same behaviour.

AND THEY ALWAYS HAVE BEEN SO IN ANY LINUX OR other OS keymaps, and
especially default keymaps - if anybody wants to customize HER keyboard,
then it's HER choice, but by no means a default.

OTOH French keyboard have a left [Alt] key and a right [AltGr] keys
having different labels and expected to have different roles.

This is extremely clear. Both [CTRL] keys should act as [CTRL] keys.
Left one, rigth one, period.

Some softwares - such as Virtualbox - will want to use the left or right
CTRL key for some specific role, and then it's printed in their
documentation and the corresponding key is supposed to exist and be
correctly mapped. It is nonsense to find oneself with a keymap in which
some highly classical and standard key just doesn't happen to exist
anymore just because of a once-upon-a-time existing issue (since solved)
with a shortcut on a music player that nobody cares about !?!?!? You
don't want to break a professional keyboard just because of arguable
choices in a toy !

After add the input device, I called 'active_input_update', the input_bar could
be adjusted.
The second fix is when we plug out the device, the input_bar is still enabled,
we need disable it, but the label on input_bar is still the 'Front Microphone'.

[Bug 1242678] Re: evince cannot render some EPS files

2014-03-13 Thread Till Kamppeter
The Ghostscript developers did not consider this as a Ghostscript bug,
see the upstream bug report

http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=694979

They consider the input EPS file from gnuplot) broken. So we should move
this bug report to gnuplot ...

[Bug 1239087]

2014-03-13 Thread Norbert
Hello, Programmist11180!
From comment #8 to #23 we talk about unrelease udisks2 version from
git-repository.

If you are on Ubuntu (or Mint, or other Debian/Ubuntu based distro) you
can follow my instruction (in comment #10) to compile udisks2 from
latest sources and test udisksctl power-off -b /dev/sde again.

I have compiled deb-package for 14.04 i686 - I can post it here if you
have any problems with compilation.

[Bug 1239087]

2014-03-13 Thread programmist11180
nrbrtx, I have Debian Wheezy (with some Sid), and Thunar filemanager.
The paths in built udisks and udisks from repository differs.
This solve the problem
sudo cp /usr/local/etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.UDisks2.conf
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/

But there is an another problem:
$ udisksctl power-off -b /dev/sde
Error looking up object for device /dev/sde

The 'eject' option not available in Thunar with built udisks. Therefore
I can't check power-off.

[Bug 1239087]

2014-03-13 Thread programmist11180
sudo cp /usr/local/lib/libudisks2.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libudisks2.so.0.0.0

And after reboot 'eject' became available in Thunar.

This is my small test:
1. Seagate Portable. Filesystem - one big NTFS volume. Eject from Thunar - no
power-off. Disable volume and then eject from Thunar - disk power-offs. Umount
volume and udisksctl power-off -b /dev/sde also spin-down disk.

2. U3 flash. Filesystem - one big FAT32. Eject from Thunar - flash
power-offs.

3. WD Passport. Filesystem - one big NTFS. No power-off in all cases.
Also no power-off in old udisks. I think that this disk may not support
this feature.

2014-03-13 Thread Norbert

strace nautilus with udisks2, WD-HDD safely remove (ok - unmounted, fail -
mounted)

Dear, David!
I look udisks2 git-repo, it seems that there are no changes since last comments.

I prepared two strace logs for nautilus with my WD-HDD connected:
* nautilus_ok.txt represent case no 4 of my comment #22
* nautilus_fail.txt represent case no 3 of my comment #22

I hope that this log-files will help determine the root of the safely-
remove problems. Also I still hope that we can get udisks1 functionality
in new udisks2.

[Bug 1239087]

2014-03-13 Thread Norbert
Programmist11180, you can always detect which devices are connected with
fdisk -l (called by root) or watch syslog on device connection. It seems that
/dev/sde device does not exist. Also you can check which storage devices are
connected in gnome-disks (previously palimsest).

Usually /dev/sda is your hard disk, the removable devices start from
/dev/sdb.

[Bug 1291365] Re: gnome screensaver locks again shortly after unlocking

2014-03-13 Thread Nick Moffitt
Other folks in the office have seen this, and it seems to happen when
you manually lock the screen and leave the lock-screen up long enough
for the lock-screen timeout. That is, once you log in the system
notices that the lock-screen timeout has passed and doesn't account for
the fact that the screen was actually locked the whole time.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04

2014-03-13 Thread Andrew Nenakhov
I confirm everything Roman Vorobets said,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1226962/comments/35

Now when using Dvorak and Russian layouts hotkeys are on one physical
key when in English-Dvorak layout, and on other key when in Russian
(they are placed to position where corresponding latin key was in QWERTY
layout). It worked flawlessly for years, and now it's broken in the same
way as in Windows, wich never figured out to fix it.

[Bug 1292021] [NEW] gconfd-2 is polling every 30 seconds calling periodic_cleanup_timeout

2014-03-13 Thread Colin King
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to reduce the amount of system activity to keep power usage
down, and I've noticed that gconfd-2 is calling
periodic_cleanup_timeout() every 30 seconds. This seems a little
excessive and I am sure that doubling the polling interval won't impact
the responsiveness of the daemon.

I am suggesting that the polling time is doubled to 60 seconds.

very unfortunate...
because. the same file could be opened in a previous version of evince. If

   I upgraded to Ubuntu Saucy,
evince cannot render EPS files generated by gnuplot.
   (Just show an empty page.)

   [how to reproduce]

   1. Generate an EPS file using gnuplot by executing the following command.
   $ gnuplot -e set terminal postscript; set output 'test.eps'; plot x;

   2. Open the file test.eps just created.
   $ evince test.eps

The following are what evince writes to the terminal.

   (evince:24176): EvinceDocument-CRITICAL **: ev_document_get_n_pages:
   assertion 'EV_IS_DOCUMENT (document)' failed

   (evince:24176): Gtk-WARNING **: drawing failure for widget `EvView':

   (evince:24176): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_from_surface:
assertion 'width 0 height 0' failed

   3. Then evince just shows an empty (white) page.

   ===

If i rotate 90 or -90 degree by pressing Ctrl+Left or Ctrl+Right key,
evince can show this file correctly.

   ===

Okular, GIMP, inkscape and gs can show this EPS file.
(may be rotated 90 degree, however)

http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/23021/solved-open-ods-or-odt-files-from-a-smb-share-throws-damaged-file-error/.

The Suggestion said to put in the terminal the following string:
sudo sed -i 's/X-GIO-NoFuse=true/#X-GIO-NoFuse=true/'
/usr/share/applications/libreoffice*

After that, I can:
- open a file (e.g.: dummy.odt) via Nautilus on a SMB share (Write will be
opened to manage that file)
- save dummy.odt after adding something; the process works fine

But:
- I can't open file on a SMB share using CTRL+O: the Open window simply
disappears!
- I can't save a new file on a SMB: Save AS (CTRL+S); I receive the error
dialog: Error saving the document X: Nonexistent object. Path to the file does
not exist.

Regards

Btw, the other even more odd workaround: switch to text console, kill

then.

[Bug 1292209] [NEW] Locking screen does not work in case of fullscreen gnome-terminal

2014-03-13 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Public bug reported:

Somewhat odd situation. If I use CTRL-ALT-L to lock my session, it
normally works as expected. However if there is a fullscreen gnome-
terminal (F11) was on the screen, CTRL-ALT-L does something interesting:
it begins fade the screen but it's left in a middle state, no way to
unlock but also it's not locked visually though I can't type anymore.

More interestingly: it seems the screen IS locked, since if I type my
password blindly (I still see the half faded session ...) I get back
my desktop in a usable state! Interesting.

[Bug 1292222] [NEW] rhythmbox displays incorrect information for tracks

2014-03-13 Thread jdearden
Public bug reported:

rhythmbox shows the same information for multiple tracks. Seems to get
worse with time. I've verified that the incorrect information is in the
rhythmdb.xml file. Deleting that and researching the music fixes the
problem temporarily.

Rhythmbox reports it is version 2.96. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit.

Rhythmbox is at /usr/bin/rhythmbox
