[Bug 1295663] [NEW] time and day widget shows the wrong date at midnight

2014-03-21 Thread Brian
Public bug reported:

At midnight, the time and date widget that is part of the desktop
widget-bar will show the wrong day. At midnight, click on the time to
expose the calendar. The day on the calendar will be marked with a
rectangle. The rectangle will be marking the wrong day between midnight
and 12:01 AM. That is, the rectangle will be in the wrong place if the
calendar is exposed any time in the first 60 seconds after midnight.
This is repeatable.

[Bug 1244087] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 Main Menu editor Problem

2014-03-21 Thread hariprasad
To move menu item from one submenu to another it is needed to know the name of
destination submenu. It is in property Categories, i.e.
Categories=Application;Development;Java;IDE. Desktop (.desktop suffix) files
are located on two places:
~/.local/share/applications locally in your home and /usr/share/applications
globally. Compare the both directories, find out appropriate files and
synchronize them. I think, that they should be the same. In my case both files
were identical, but in /usr/share/applications was attribute Hidden=true, so i
remove it to be both files identical.

The second case is, if the .desktop file is only in local menu. Check it
and add Categories property if needed. Remove Hidden property or set it
false. Check duplicities (many items has name alacarte-made-nn.desktop)
check them, rename them, remove duplicities!

[Bug 1242018] [NEW] Lost some icons after upgrade to 13.10

2014-03-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Last night I upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10. It went surprisingly well.
Just about everything works except that I lost my shutdown icon and the
hibernate selection in my sessions menu. I was able to hibernate via the
terminal so I know it stil works but I would prefer to do it from the
sessions menu, as usual. I would also like to get the shutdown icon back
in my gnome bar. Can someone direct me to the proper procedure?

Thanks in advance.

Checked again, as im using lightdm by default (gdm also installed by
gnome-shell)

oem@dev32:~$ ps auxww|grep [g]nome-screensaver
oem 2224 0.0 0.3 179692 14220 ?Sl 06:23 0:01
/usr/bin/gnome-screensaver --no-daemon

So it seems always clean on my system.

Becouse:

When laptop suspending, before display turns off and laptop become fully
suspended - I see Default Ubuntu lock screen and hear Ubuntu notice

May be somewhere added second lock screen call. Becouse it seems like

no, it's neither secure to run that much code (including GUI) under sudo
right nor working right with the user session (the process run with
another uid and with the wrong environment which means basic integration
with the session components is going to fail working since there is not
even a session for the user running the binary)

The sample PDF has no embedded fonts, and the referred font

opened by Adobe Reader, strangely, the font tab in property

I'm afraid that Adobe Reader shows Kanji Cyrillic text by
some fallback feature, and poppler's behaviour is not a bug,
although it is not inconvenient than Adobe Reader.

I confirm this bug (or missing feature).

It not only affects Arabic or Hebrew characters! I tried to insert a line
separator (Unicode character '\u2028') into a text field of a PDF form. In
Gnome (e.g. in a Terminal) this works by pressing Ctrl+Shift+u 2 0 2 8. In
acroread it works similar (just keep pressing Ctrl+Shift while typing the
digits). Evince displays a PDF form with '\u2028' as expected. But a '\u2028'
cannot be inserted and is even removed whenever the containing text field is
edited somehow!

For details about why and how PDF forms may contain '\u2028' or '\u2029' see

[Bug 1295778] [NEW] Nautilus definitely needs to be repleced

2014-03-21 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

Now this is too much.

I wanted to temporarily see a folder tree in TREE VIEW and I've found
out that feature has been REMOVED. That's absolutely ridiculous. Who on
earth, in his right mind, would decide to remove such a feature from a
file browser, which was already implemented? This is one more proof, if
any more was needed, that the development of Nautilus has (since a
pretty long time ago now) taken a completely demential drift.

Recent changes in Nautilus have all been for the worse: regressions,
design decisions that can only be described as stupid, removal of
obvious features without any benefit in exchange. The file browser is a
pretty important part of an operating system. If Ubuntu wants to remain
a usable operating system, it's urgent to drop Nautilus in favour of
something else whose main developers upstream are not on drugs.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1295794] [NEW] nautilus opens a new window if clicked on its unity icon even when another nautilus window is open with ntfs drive folder open

2014-03-21 Thread Jobin Raju George
Public bug reported:

I could not make the title shorter and clearer, please forgive.

How to reproduce this bug:

On a freshly booted system running Ubuntu 14.04 having unity as its
desktop-manager and having at least one NTFS partition on its internal
hard disk, do the following:

1) Open a nautilus window and mount an NTFS partition and keep any of the
folders on the NTFS partition open in this window.
2) Now open any other application(I opened firefox) and then go back to the
nautilus window by pressing on nautilus' unity icon(which should have a small
arrow to the left of the nautilus icon, indicating it is already open). Do not
use Alt+Tab to go back to nautilus- this works fine.

3) This will open a new nautilus window with the home folder(or
whichever is the default path to open when a new nautilus window is
opened) and bring the originally opened folder on the NTFS partition.

What I expected to happen?

Clicking on an already opened nautilus window will open(bring to
foreground) the folder on the NTFS partition.

What actually happened?

A new window with my home folder as its default opening path, opened,
giving me two nautilus windows opened.

[Bug 1295220] Re: Images can't be viewed system-wide after libgtk3 update

2014-03-21 Thread Marc Deslauriers
1. How come the incompatible update was installed on my system? Doesn't
Ubuntu automatically do incompatibility detection?

No. Once you enable a PPA with untested software, you are on your own.

2. Why is gdk-pixbuf incompatible, if it is not in the list of the
packages that were updated and thus caused this issue?

Because glib2.0 changed things that gdk-pixbuf was depending on I would
guess.

3. I already tried (prior to submitting this bug) to downgrade the
packages I installed but had no luck. The reason is that package
dependencies force me to remove hundreds of packages in my system that
depend on the packages I want to downgrade.

You can remove packages installed by a PPA with the ppa-purge command:

$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:webupd8team/gvfs-libmtp

I am closing this bug, since the problem is caused by incompatible software in
a PPA.

4-5 seconds I see ordinary desktop and folders.

[Bug 1293790] Re: An application wants access to the keyring (*which* application is not specified)

2014-03-21 Thread stimpy77
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 246185 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246185

Yeah. At this point putting up a label for which application is accessing the
secret
isn't that easy, and it's very hard to get it completely right. It would be
nice to get this working, but unless someone pitches in with a plan/code, it's
currently at a lower priority than other gnome-keyring work.

.. the way I read that is, ..

Sorry, it turns out that even though we know that 'an application'
wants to gain access to the keyring, it's too hawrd to figure out how to
track that. So, we're putting this off. Indefinitely.

Open source developers. Gotta love 'em. (Yes this is a snide remark. I'm
embarrassed for these people. A desktop OS exists FOR A USER. So if a
security message cannot be properly constructing its message because to
properly construct its message is too hawrd, the message should not be
shown. Redesign the keyring feature or drop the feature.)

[Bug 1295856] [NEW] The latest gnome-settings-daemon update for precise (3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.5) breaks multimedia keys

2014-03-21 Thread Gustavo Gama
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.5, the shortcuts using the
multimedia keys (XF86AudioNext, XF86WWW, etc) don't work anymore. After
investigating a bit, I found some hints in ~/.xsession-errors:

...
libmedia-keys.so undefined symbol: ca_gtk_play_for_widget
Cannot load plugin 'Media keys' -- file
'/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0/libmedia-keys.so
...

And indeed, the diff from 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.4 to 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.5
(https://launchpadlibrarian.net/155578314/gnome-settings-
daemon_3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.4_3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.5.diff.gz) adds a reference
to ca_gtk_play_for_widget, which I believe is defined in libcanberra-
gtk.so.0 (package libcanberra-gtk0).

However, it seems that libmedia-keys.so isn't linked with libcanberra-
gtk.so.0 (well, at least, ldd /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0
/libmedia-keys.so | grep ca_gtk returned empty), even though the
package libcanberra-gtk3-0 is listed as a dependency of gnome-
settings-daemon.

[Bug 1293790] Re: An application wants access to the keyring (*which* application is not specified)

2014-03-21 Thread Seth Arnold
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 246185 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246185

Stimpy, I came to a different conclusion from the upstream bug report.

The problem isn't figuring out which _one_ application wants the key,
it's that the key will be available to _all_ the desktop applications.

Fixing this issue will take significant work -- switching to Mir or
Wayland, for a start -- and providing mandatory access control policies
for desktop applications.

The problem isn't just with the message presented to the user.

Thanks

[Bug 1262068] Re: nvidia-prime should support gdm also

2014-03-21 Thread Tim
@Alberto, prime-offload needs to be run as root, or logging won't work.
Anyway I have a patch ready for gdm.

for the stop script, its seems to me like it could just be run by
upstart, see above patch. Will that work?

[Bug 1295914] [NEW] Setting disable-while-typing from touchpad settings has no effect

2014-03-21 Thread Jacob Gerlach
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS
2) gnome-control-center: Installed: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu0.13.1
3) I expected the touchpad to be disabled while I am typing.
4) The touchpad is not disabled: the text point jumping to the cursor location
when my wrist bumps the touchpad while I am typing.
Viewing org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad in dconf-editor shows
that disable-while-typing is not set, although the option is set in Mouse and

[Bug 1292041] Re: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen

2014-03-21 Thread Rocko
It affects the monitor. Is the monitor really non-essential?

And is there a way to use the old screen locker until this is fixed?
It's a pretty big regression.

No, unless you don't go back to previous gnome-screensaver version.

BTW if you've set to lock the screen by default when screensaver
starts, just running:
  gdbus call --session --dest org.gnome.ScreenSaver --object-path /
--method org.gnome.ScreenSaver.SetActive true

Will turn off the screen and lock.

[Bug 1295925] [NEW] Rhythmbox displays the wrong album art

2014-03-21 Thread Mike Doherty
Public bug reported:

Rhythmbox displays album art itself at the top of the window, among the
controls. It also sends album art to notify-osd for display in
notification bubbles, and in indicator-sound. Rhythmbox is using the
wrong album art much of the time. In the instant case, the mp3 files
have no embedded album art, so I would expect either the correct album
art is downloaded, or none is displayed (default image or blank).
Instead, album art is apparently picked randomly from my music
collection.

[Bug 1295937] Crash report cannot be processed

2014-03-21 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for libva1: package version 1.2.1-2 dbgsym
version 1.1.1-3

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!
