java programs like:
intellij idea , PyCharm, Minecraft(yeap, game broken too).

But non java programms hotkeys not works too:

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04

2014-04-25 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead of
ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts
this workaround helps only with one of them.

+
+ Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
+ Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
+ 1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
+ 2. What keyboard layout do you have
+ 3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
+ 4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
+ 5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.
+
+ By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
+ may be faster.
+

For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see
bug 1218322.

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-04-25 Thread zig59
Unbuntu 14.04 desktop 64bit. Standard install.

Motorola S805 BT headphones found, paired and connected fine.
Connects/disconnects automatically upon switching headphones on/off. BT lock
icon shows connection status.
Headphones listed on output and input tabs in Sound Settings.

But...

System doesn't automatically select the headphones as output/input in Sound
Settings.
Manually selecting the headphones in Sound Settings makes no difference, the
sound still comes out of the amplified speakers and there is no recognition of
input through the headphone mic.
So close...

If any logs required please instruct. Thanks

[Bug 912912] Re: rhythmbox power manager plugin doesn't show up in plugins dialog

2014-04-25 Thread fossfreedom
This is an invalid bug - the powermanager plugin is supposed to be
hidden.

Note - look at the upstream code. The plugin is BuiltIn which means -
part of the core capability and should not be exposed to users.

If you want this changed, this really needs to be pushed upstream to
rhythmbox-bugzilla.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1244090] Re: Pressing keyboard shortcut to switch keyboard layout causes temporary loss of focus

2014-04-25 Thread kolen
Discovered that it's not related solely to keyboard switching: focus
loss occurs when pressing any bound shortcut, for example volume
up/down. So, it is in 'media-keys' unity-settings-daemon plugin, not in
'keyboard' plugin.

Also, 'media-keys' controls keyboard layouts only in unity-settings-
daemon, upstream gnome-settings-daemon doesn't have code for doing this.

  break;
  case BATTERY_KEY:
  do_battery_action (manager);
  break;
+ case SWITCH_INPUT_SOURCE_KEY:
+ case SWITCH_INPUT_SOURCE_BACKWARD_KEY:
+ do_switch_input_source_action (manager, type);
+ break;
/* Note, no default so compiler catches missing keys */
  case CUSTOM_KEY:

[Bug 1244090] Re: Pressing keyboard shortcut to switch keyboard layout causes temporary loss of focus

2014-04-25 Thread kolen
Some details: in Ubuntu 13.10, when reported, focus went back when
releasing shortcut key/keys, in recent version (Ubuntu 14.04) focus go
back shortly after pressing key(s), while keys are still in pressed
position; still triggering annoying behavior in some apps (i.e. twitter
reply box).

** Also affects: unity-settings-daemon
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Summary changed:

- Pressing keyboard shortcut to switch keyboard layout causes temporary loss of
focus
+ Pressing any global keyboard shortcut causes temporary loss of focus

** Description changed:

- When pressing keyboard shourtcut for switching keyboard layout, focus
- temporary switches from active text input to something else, then
- restores back when releasing keys used to switch. Maybe even active
- window loses focus, but window frame does not shows this (window header
- remains to look active).
+ When pressing any global keyboard shourtcut (configurable via System
+ settings - Keyboard - Shortcuts; i.e. for switching keyboard layout,
+ volume up/down), focus temporary switches from active text input to
+ something else, then restores back shortly. Maybe even active window
+ loses focus, but window frame does not shows this (window header remains
+ to look active).

- For example: when I press ctrl+shift here, when writing this
- description, yellow frame disappears from text input box, text caret
- disappears too; they appear again when releasing ctrl+shift. The same
- occurs in all other programs, i.e. terminal.
+ For example: when I press ctrl+shift here to switch keyboard layout,
+ when writing this description, yellow frame disappears from text input
+ box, text caret disappears too; they appear again when releasing
+ ctrl+shift. The same occurs in all other programs, i.e. terminal.

It causes serious annoyance, for example in Twitter when losing focus in
Reply text box, reply rolls up and I have to click it again with mouse
and set caret to correct place each time I switch keyboard layouts.

Other key combinations, not only ctrl+shift, also cause this.

+ It is especially annoying when using keyboard layout switch shortcut
+ handled by the same subsystem (media-keys plugin):
+
+ case SWITCH_INPUT_SOURCE_KEY:
+ case SWITCH_INPUT_SOURCE_BACKWARD_KEY:
+ do_switch_input_source_action (manager, type);
+ break;
+
+ (Original gnome-settings-daemon, from which unity-settings-daemon was
+ forked, does not use media-keys plugin to switch keyboard layout).

[Bug 1244090] Re: Pressing any global keyboard shortcut causes temporary loss of focus

2014-04-25 Thread Jan Vlnas
This has gotten even more annoying in 14.04, though my problem is a tad
specific.
I have set the keyboard shortcut “Switch to next source:” to Left Shift+Right
Shift (used to be X server's default). However this have an interesting side
effect in some cases: now just pressing (one) Shift key to write an upcase
letter also causes a temporary lose of focus, effectively breaking some text
fields – like a Twitter's compose and reply boxes mentioned by kolen. Reverting
back to the default Super+Space solves this issue, even switching the keyboard
on Twitter doesn't lose the focus.
So apparently some shortcuts may have an unintended side effects.

[Bug 1312769] [NEW] Bogus desktop bookmark in Nautilus sidebar

Public bug reported:

In Nautils 3.10.1 from Ubuntu GNOME Trusty, there is a desktop

[Bug 1312223] Re: gnome-session-quit does not work

2014-04-25 Thread Johny
I tested in a guest session and I have the same issue.
I don't have that file, I have gnome-session-Unity.log. When I click the
restart or shutdown button in the dialog, this content gets added to the log:

error : string is not in UTF-8
encoding error : output conversion failed due to conv error, bytes 0xB4 0x67
0x6E 0x6F
I/O error : encoder error

Each time I start a new session, the bytes content is different.

[Bug 1232299] Re: Compiz doesn't undo profile change after processing upgrade

works fine.
gnome-session-flashback (Flashback) which runs with Compiz starts Unity

It works very well with Metacity, but if you use Compiz, then you get a
conflict with Unity. That is; you get both Unity and Gnome Panel running
  at the same time.

  [Test Case]

  (1) make sure both the gnome-session-flashback and the ubuntu-session

  (2) at the lightdm prompt, select the guest session using the GNOME Flashback

  [Regression Potential]

Because this change involves Compiz confiurations, it has the potential
to lose or modify those data in unexpected or undesirable ways.
Recovery from such a situation involves manually resetting those

[Bug 1312780] [NEW] Floating menu mostly disappears in fullscreen mode

2014-04-25 Thread ahow628
Public bug reported:

When going into full screen mode on Ubuntu 14.04 (connecting to a Ubuntu
14.04 running Unity and x11vnc), the floating menu at the top of the
screen is mostly inaccessible.

I say mostly because you can wave your mouse around at the top center of
the screen where the menu should appear and you will occasionally see
something flash up for a split second. If you click continuously while
waving the mouse around, you will occasionally hit a button.

Here are some more details:
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -
About Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center

Menu would appear at the top of the full screen window or at least when mouse

4) What happened instead
Occasional split second pop up of window and tool tips. Can also click buttons

[Bug 1312518] [NEW] Printing from Firefox - Document moves to Queue, but is stopped, does not print

2014-04-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Attempts to print from Firefox from various pages does not work.

After selecting print, and following the prompts normally. Choosing
printer, etc. Goes normally.

The page appears to print and the dialogs go away. The document goes
into the printer queue and sits there. Document never prints.

There is a message in the printer's queue indicating that there is no
connection, but going through the debugging steps all information
indicates that the printer is present and 'idle'.

This seems to be a recent development. I can't connect the change to a

[Bug 1312734] Re: thumbnails of files don't load and causes high cpu usage

2014-04-25 Thread Albert Cutrona
Hello,

I'm terribly sorry but I can't reproduce the issue. Today I've realized
a high CPU usage and finally discovered that was a thumbnail problem in
Nautilus, the thumbnails didn't showed and raised the CPU and the
temperature too high.

After browsing in askubuntu.com I've seen a person with another problem
related to thumbnails in Ubuntu 13.10 but his experience has given me
the clue. So, I've deleted two hidden folders named thumbnails in my
/home and now is all ok.

It's for that reason that I've asked to close the bug and I'm not able to
reproduce the situation. Anyways, I don't have any problem if you consider
don't close and wait if the problem comes again.

Thank you very much for your help!!

I apologize for the wrong report, I should search before..., but I swear
that gnome-system-monitor and htop didn't showed the guilty process...

I also apoligize for my English, it isn't my language, so I hope you can
understand me.

Again, tahnk you very much and very best regards!! :D

[Bug 1312518] Re: Printing from Firefox - Document moves to Queue, but is stopped, does not print

2014-04-25 Thread Till Kamppeter
C Wachob, you do not need to send any files any more. We have found out
what happened.

The client (Firefox) sends the attribute
PageSize=Custom.Custom.595.28x841.89 to CUPS along with the print job.
This attribute is invalid. It must read PageSize=Custom.595.28x841.89
or simply PageSize=A4.

This is an old problem (bug 998156) which is already solved in the
graphical user interface toolkit GTK 3.x (this provides the print
dialog). Due to Firefox still using GTK 2.x the problem is still present
there.

What needs to get fixed here is either to backport the fix in GTK 3.x
into GTK 2.x or to migrate Firefox to the current, maintained GTK 3.x.
Therefore I am moving this bug to GTK 2.x and Firefox. It would be too
awkward and not the correct solution to make CUPS and all CUPS filters
understand PageSize=Custom.Custom.595.28x841.89.

C Wachob, for the time being either use Chromium or print into a PDF
file and then open the PDF and print it.

 Title:
gvfs-mount through ssh/sftp fails if host is not already in
   known_hosts file

Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
   New

 Bug description:
After performing a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04, I attempted to mount a
 remote computer through ssh/sftp:
   $ gvfs-mount ssh://user@host

This resulted in the error message:
Error mounting location: Login dialog cancelled

This had been working fine in my previous installation, so I assumed
that I was missing a package, or that some configuration was wrong.
After some googling, attempts at adding more packages that might be
necessary, reboots (just to be sure), I more or less gave up and
thought I'd just live without for a while and ask a question myself on
   askubuntu.com.

Then I thought I'd try one last thing; re-install nautilus (which I
normally don't use) and try to mount through the nautilus GUI. That
actually *did* work, but I noticed the authenticity message.

So I unmounted, and remounted from the command line. This time it
worked normally. I deleted the known_hosts file. Then the error
   message was back.

While the workaround is pretty simple, it was quite hard (at least for
me) to figure out what was happening.

My suggestion is to either improve the error message so that users
don't have to guess at what really happened or - preferably -
establish the authenticity in the normal manner also when using the
   gvfs-mount command.

[Bug 1312518] Re: Printing from Firefox - Document moves to Queue, but is stopped, does not print

2014-04-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The issue has been fixed in GTK2 in newer version
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/commit/?h=gtk-2-24id=d9f9925878773fb37d1a385a929ddcbb4ef8fb80

That might be worth doing a precise stable update though, if somebody is
interested working on that backport (that should be an easy one)

[Bug 1224732] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts don't work

2014-04-25 Thread gazhay
Still no joy with ccsm, although I may have identified more of the
issue.

If I setup a commandline and try to invoke with some of the more
special' keys, e.g. Brightness Up that I have on my daskeyboard, it
grabs the key combination as XF86Launch6, or XF86Launch5 for
brightness down, or XF86Eject, for eject (as I have no optical media
drive I reassign this for other things)

If I pick a standard key like F12, the command line executes.

I'm not knowledgeable enough about the input system to know what the
differences are between a standard key and an emulated XF86 one and
the ways they are interpreted by the system.

[Bug 1203592] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C

2014-04-25 Thread Aisthesis
I was just screwing around with this and found out something
interesting.

In /etc/modprobe.d/samsung-backlight.conf you'll likely see;

blacklist samsung-laptop
options samsung-backlight use_sabi=0 levels=8 force=1

Remove the blacklist and keyboard backlight controls will work and
org.freedesktop.UPower.KbdBacklight exists allowing you to control the
keyboard brightness.

But the screen backlight stops working...

Add the blacklist back, screen brightness works again, keyboard
brightness does not, and org.freedesktop.UPower.KbdBacklight does not
exist.

I don't really have any more time to play around but thought I would
share.

[Bug 1264368] Re: GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID was not found when attempting to remove it - warning when leaving Network menu of g-c-c

2014-04-25 Thread Ariel Faigon
Quote from an upstream (bugzilla.gnome.org) comment:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=721369

GLib recently started throwing a warning when g_source_remove()
is passed garbage (as per warning). Your applications have probably been
broken
for a while, and there's no telling what could actually have happened in the
past when g_source_remove() would happily close any random source because
the
programmer got the wrong argument to g_source_remove().

So if true, it looks like this should be reasssigned either to Glib, or
to all the affected applications.

The problem isn't just the error (log pollution). When the error
occurs, I see ssh sessions actually hang when console-kit-daemon prints
the error. This is a regression in 14.04 vs 13.10.

[Bug 1203592] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C

2014-04-25 Thread Sérgio Faria
To complement what aisthesis said, now, in Ubuntu 14.04, the kb backlight
works.
It gets triggered only via the luminosity sensor, not the fn keys.

I don't recommend removing that blacklist, as its known to brick the
laptop in UEFI mode (atleast in old BIOS versions).

[Bug 1203592] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C

2014-04-25 Thread Kieran Clancy
If you are using UEFI, do not remove the blacklist on samsung-laptop!

You are probably safe from the bricking bug with a recent kernel, but
there are other UEFI problems with samsung-laptop that have never been
resolved, like machine check exceptions.

I did find a way of setting the keyboard backlight without the samsung-
laptop module, but I am still working on it.

The ACPI DSDT defines a variable KBLL (keyboard back-light level?) in
the SNVS (system non-volatile storage). This is where the the backlight
level can be stored, but it is highly non-trivial to set. I wrote a
program for my own machine, but it has hard-coded memory addresses which
probably make it very unwise to run on other systems.

A slightly safer way, which requires a reboot to work, is to set the
keyboard backlight level in the UEFI variables.

On my system:

# cd /sys/firmware/efi/efivars
# ls *KeyboardBacklight*
SecKeyboardBacklightLevel-2f440835-38c4-44b6-b7e4-4f321c8b4189
# xxd -p SecKeyboardBacklightLevel-2f440835-38c4-44b6-b7e4-4f321c8b4189
070001
# echo 070005 | xxd -p -r
SecKeyboardBacklightLevel-2f440835-38c4-44b6-b7e4-4f321c8b4189
# reboot

You can change that last byte from 00 through 06 or so. Don't change the
first or other bytes. At some stage during the next boot, it will be
read into the KBLL value mentioned above.

I use '01' pretty well permanently. Now that recent kernels detect the
ambient light properly, it comes on automatically when I need it.
