[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04
** Description changed: New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected non-latin keyboard layout. Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly. Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard layout. Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non- latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts this workaround helps only with one of them. + + Dear Ubuntu users and developers! + Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin shortcuts problems: + 1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean installed + 2. What keyboard layout do you have + 3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use + 4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell, GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz) + 5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA, non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems. + + By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and + may be faster. + -- For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see bug 1218322. -- -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1226962 Title: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/df-libreoffice/+bug/1226962/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Some details: in Ubuntu 13.10, when reported, focus went back when releasing shortcut key/keys, in recent version (Ubuntu 14.04) focus go back shortly after pressing key(s), while keys are still in pressed position; still triggering annoying behavior in some apps (i.e. twitter reply box). ** Also affects: unity-settings-daemon Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Pressing keyboard shortcut to switch keyboard layout causes temporary loss of focus + Pressing any global keyboard shortcut causes temporary loss of focus ** Description changed: - When pressing keyboard shourtcut for switching keyboard layout, focus - temporary switches from active text input to something else, then - restores back when releasing keys used to switch. [Bug 1244090] Re: Pressing any global keyboard shortcut causes temporary loss of focus
This has gotten even more annoying in 14.04, though my problem is a tad specific. I have set the keyboard shortcut “Switch to next source:” to Left Shift+Right Shift (used to be X server's default). However this have an interesting side effect in some cases: now just pressing (one) Shift key to write an upcase letter also causes a temporary lose of focus, effectively breaking some text fields – like a Twitter's compose and reply boxes mentioned by kolen. Reverting back to the default Super+Space solves this issue, even switching the keyboard on Twitter doesn't lose the focus. So apparently some shortcuts may have an unintended side effects. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1244090 Title: Pressing any global keyboard shortcut causes temporary loss of focus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1244090/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1312734] Re: thumbnails of files don't load and causes high cpu usage
Hello, I'm terribly sorry but I can't reproduce the issue. Today I've realized a high CPU usage and finally discovered that was a thumbnail problem in Nautilus, the thumbnails didn't showed and raised the CPU and the temperature too high. After browsing in askubuntu.com I've seen a person with another problem related to thumbnails in Ubuntu 13.10 but his experience has given me the clue. So, I've deleted two hidden folders named thumbnails in my /home and now is all ok. It's for that reason that I've asked to close the bug and I'm not able to reproduce the situation. Anyways, I don't have any problem if you consider don't close and wait if the problem comes again. Thank you very much for your help!! I apologize for the wrong report, I should search before..., but I swear that gnome-system-monitor and htop didn't showed the guilty process... I also apoligize for my English, it isn't my language, so I hope you can understand me. [Bug 1312518] Re: Printing from Firefox - Document moves to Queue, but is stopped, does not print
C Wachob, you do not need to send any files any more. We have found out what happened. The client (Firefox) sends the attribute PageSize=Custom.Custom.595.28x841.89 to CUPS along with the print job. This attribute is invalid. It must read PageSize=Custom.595.28x841.89 or simply PageSize=A4. This is an old problem (bug 998156) which is already solved in the graphical user interface toolkit GTK 3.x (this provides the print dialog). Due to Firefox still using GTK 2.x the problem is still present there. What needs to get fixed here is either to backport the fix in GTK 3.x into GTK 2.x or to migrate Firefox to the current, maintained GTK 3.x. Therefore I am moving this bug to GTK 2.x and Firefox. It would be too awkward and not the correct solution to make CUPS and all CUPS filters understand PageSize=Custom.Custom.595.28x841.89. C Wachob, for the time being either use Chromium or print into a PDF file and then open the PDF and print it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1312518 Title: Printing from Firefox - Document moves to Queue, but is stopped, does not print To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1312518/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1312518] [NEW] Printing from Firefox - Document moves to Queue, but is stopped, does not print
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Attempts to print from Firefox from various pages does not work. After selecting print, and following the prompts normally. Choosing printer, etc. Goes normally. The page appears to print and the dialogs go away. The document goes into the printer queue and sits there. Document never prints. There is a message in the printer's queue indicating that there is no connection, but going through the debugging steps all information indicates that the printer is present and 'idle'. This seems to be a recent development. I can't connect the change to a particular update or date. After some googling, attempts at adding more packages that might be necessary, reboots (just to be sure), I more or less gave up and thought I'd just live without for a while and ask a question myself on askubuntu.com. Then I thought I'd try one last thing; re-install nautilus (which I normally don't use) and try to mount through the nautilus GUI. That actually *did* work, but I noticed the authenticity message. So I unmounted, and remounted from the command line. This time it worked normally. I deleted the known_hosts file. Then the error message was back. While the workaround is pretty simple, it was quite hard (at least for me) to figure out what was happening. My suggestion is to either improve the error message so that users don't have to guess at what really happened or - preferably - establish the authenticity in the normal manner also when using the gvfs-mount command. Quote from an upstream (bugzilla.gnome.org) comment: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=721369 GLib recently started throwing a warning when g_source_remove() is passed garbage (as per warning). Your applications have probably been broken for a while, and there's no telling what could actually have happened in the past when g_source_remove() would happily close any random source because the programmer got the wrong argument to g_source_remove(). So if true, it looks like this should be reasssigned either to Glib, or to all the affected applications. The problem isn't just the error (log pollution). [Bug 1203592] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C
To complement what aisthesis said, now, in Ubuntu 14.04, the kb backlight works. It gets triggered only via the luminosity sensor, not the fn keys. [Bug 1203592] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C
If you are using UEFI, do not remove the blacklist on samsung-laptop! You are probably safe from the bricking bug with a recent kernel, but there are other UEFI problems with samsung-laptop that have never been resolved, like machine check exceptions. I did find a way of setting the keyboard backlight without the samsung- laptop module, but I am still working on it. The ACPI DSDT defines a variable KBLL (keyboard back-light level?) in the SNVS (system non-volatile storage). This is where the the backlight level can be stored, but it is highly non-trivial to set. I wrote a program for my own machine, but it has hard-coded memory addresses which probably make it very unwise to run on other systems. A slightly safer way, which requires a reboot to work, is to set the keyboard backlight level in the UEFI variables. On my system: # cd /sys/firmware/efi/efivars # ls *KeyboardBacklight* SecKeyboardBacklightLevel-2f440835-38c4-44b6-b7e4-4f321c8b4189 # xxd -p SecKeyboardBacklightLevel-2f440835-38c4-44b6-b7e4-4f321c8b4189 070001 # echo 070005 | xxd -p -r SecKeyboardBacklightLevel-2f440835-38c4-44b6-b7e4-4f321c8b4189 # reboot You can change that last byte from 00 through 06 or so. Don't change the first or other bytes. At some stage during the next boot, it will be read into the KBLL value mentioned above. I use '01' pretty well permanently. Now that recent kernels detect the ambient light properly, it comes on automatically when I need it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1203592 Title: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1203592/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
