[Bug 1224732] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts don't work
On my system after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 and then to 14.04, custom shortcuts didn't work because the wrong keysyms were being generated, according to xev, despite my use of xmodmap in .xsession called by nodm. I fixed it by delaying the xmodmap by two seconds. I speculate that the X server initialisation of keyboard mapping changed in a way to introduce a race condition, and so setting the keyboard mapping later worked around the race. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1224732 Title: Custom keyboard shortcuts don't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1224732/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1313998] [NEW] [systemd] gdm needs a systemd unit file
Public bug reported: The gdm package provides an Upstart job /etc/init/gdm.conf but not a systemd unit. Therefore, an ubuntu-gnome system booted with systemd remains stuck on the splash screen forever with no display manager. One is already available in the source package (data/gdm.service.in), and already installed by ‘make install’ (/lib/systemd/system/gdm.service), so it probably just needs to be added to debian/gdm.install. Re: [Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption
I think people are trying provoke a post-Snowden comment from the devs or Ubuntu. This uncomfortable discussion has an important social role in establishing or restoring or writing off credibility. Pre-Snowden the official position seemed incredible, but potentially honestly held. It may even have been part of the Ubuntus baffling but consistent long term strategy of replacing working software with half finished software. But post-Snowden we see an opportunity to discover if they are accidental helps or wilful supporters of the evil empire. Thus are reputations forged. Re: [Bug 296867]
I'm feed up of people complaining about people complaining about wilful bad security. This is doubly so considering all the criticism that has gone the way of the OpenSSL people in the wake of Heartbleed. A little more discussion there might have helped, but here it obviously hasn't! When someone gives their time and experience to improve software designs from fatal flaws, often in the evenings with other distractions, they get next to no gratitude and a whole heap of criticism as if their drawing attention to the flaw is worse than the flaw itself. Free software doesn't stop people talking about the naked emperor. If they are not government spies and but just play at spies in their evenings (with other distractions) then that is fine, but if they then make a public gift of it can they really expect people to not talk about it? They don't buy our silence with their wooden horse! We don't use it and we warn others. We actually care about their users! [Bug 1313860] [NEW] After Ubuntu 14.04 upgrade, I cannot properly access SMB shares mounted by gvfs
Public bug reported: I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 13.10 to Ubuntu 14.04 and immediately encountered problems connecting to and accessing files in shares on my local network. Previously I could either navigate to the share I wanted to access or use the "connect to server" option in Nautilus, and I could read and write to all files without any trouble. Now, however, when I make a connection I can sometimes get a directory listing, but any attempt to read files on those shares results in an error, usually along the lines of "software caused connection abort." This happens whether I am attempting to read a JPEG image, an MP3, or a Deja Dup backup. (For some reason, text files do not seem to cause any trouble.) Several other people seem to be reporting this same problem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/450206/how-to-fix-a-software-caused- connection-abort-error-in-ubuntu-14-04 , https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1312362 I have used the latest upstream kernel and have found the same problem. I also tested a fresh copy of Ubuntu 14.04 running on a USB stick and found the same problem, so this bug is not limited to upgrades. I have tried creating a new user account and the problem persists. The only workaround I've been able to find so far has been to edit my /etc/fstab file to create a permanent mount point. This isn't an ideal solution, and I'd much rather be able to use Nautilus's "connect to server" feature. Per Ubuntu bug reporting guidelines, here is information about my system: 1) I am running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 64 bit version. Release: 14.04. (Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.46-generic 3.13.9 ) 2) I am using version 1.20.1-1ubuntu1 of gvfs 3) I expected to be able to access files when I used Nautilus (or Files) to connect to an smb share on my home network. 4) Every time I attempted to read a file (images, music, documents) the software I used reported an IO error, an aborted connection, or a corrupted file. ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313860 Title: After Ubuntu 14.04 upgrade, I cannot properly access SMB shares mounted by gvfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1313860/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 296867]
Well, my issue isn't how the devs choose to spend their time, but the extremely hostile and dismissive attitude they took towards security and privacy when they have addressed this bug/feature request/feature. I haven't paid them, they are not obligated to me, I am disturbed that Ubuntu would switch to an unsecurable chat software as their default. I'm disturbed that people would have such a hostile attitude to security and privacy. I'm not bothered that they don't want to spend their time doing it. [Bug 296867]
I'm fed up of people complaining about developers. It's *free software*, and if you get anything more than you paid for then you should be grateful (I certainly am). This is doubly so considering all the criticism that has gone the way of the OpenSSL people in the wake of Heartbleed. When someone gives their best effort to produce software as a gift to the community, often working in spare evenings with lots of other distractions which prevent them giving their full focus to the task, they get next to no praise when it works and a whole heap of criticism when they make a tiny mistake. People even accuse them of deliberately inserting the mistake as a government spy. I'm currently writing up my PhD thesis. When I finish, I will have some free time while waiting for my viva voce, and would be willing to spend some of that time trying to fix this, as it is something I would find useful myself and potentially also a helpful addition to my CV. However there are probably plenty of people out there who would do a better job than I, especially since I have mainly used Fortran and Python for the last 4 years so my C/C++ is rather rusty. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296867 Title: empathy needs to support OTR encryption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/empathy/+bug/296867/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I think most people take it for granted that telepathy devs are on the dark side - even the name of the project gives it away! Telepathy is for other people to read your thoughts. [Bug 1313041] Re: When i open archive and try to drag and drop files the file-roller freezes and the only way to exit i found is ALT+F4.
Basicly i was testing with "eclipse-standard-kepler-SR2-linux-gtk- x86_64.tar.gz" archive, I downloaded it from orginal eclipse.org website. First of all i am using default applications like file-roller and pcmanfm and default Lubuntu 14.04 theme with default icons. 1. Currently i was able to catch this hang up only about three time at first try. Later it fixes. This is how i do: i open the archive then while holding SHIFT button i select more than 3 items (not empty folders and files), sometimes it requires to click two times with mouse (i was trying to hold shift while no item is selected at first). Then i drag and drop to another place in active pcmanfm window. 2. Normally it extracts the files. 3. The pcmanfm is not movable and freezes (while it looks normal). Mouse cursor changes into a glove with two small chains at the right bottom (mouse is movable and clickable but does not do anything). Only the ALT+F4 combination helps at this time (it closes the pcmanfm and everything comes back to normal). After some testing this bug disappears (it happens in about first two tries). P.S. This is my first time reporting a bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313041 Title: When i open archive and try to drag and drop files the file-roller freezes and the only way to exit i found is ALT+F4. [Bug 296867]
After all that NSA, PRISM, etc, scandal, I don't want to imagine the silly face Telepathy's developers who stated so arrogantly that security wasn't very important must have every morning. They thought that critic users who were demanding security were little less than intellectually retarded people, who couldn't distinguish what is really important, whereas they, the developers, in "Their infinite wisdom", had the Truth, knowing what was prioritary, not us, stupid users who can't even code. After all these of costant slapping in their faces from the news, the papers, the public; in short: the reality, one would think they must have become a little humbler (Christ, they even rejected to work on encryption despite people was ready to collect money pay them to do it!), but it seems that things haven't evolved too much, right? (KDE's Telepathy implementation has even been removed from Prism Break website because its [lack of] security is just unacceptable: https://github.com/nylira/prism-break/issues/939 ) Well, we, the critic users, aren't developers in this project, or at all. We can't tell them to do what we think is prioritary when the other 90% of users think is not (y'all know: a trillion flies can't be wrong. Let's eat sh*t), nor can we write an encryption plugin, so I think all critic users should stop trying to make TP devs reason, it's a lost cause. I suspect that Collabora, the company after Telepathy, might have been intentionally delaying as much as possible the "securization" of Telepathy. We known now that the obscure hand of the NSA has been involved in the development of cryptography standards and even in TOR. As an iceberg's peak, surely we don't even imagine the 90% unter the water. Suspiction is not knowledge, of course, but all that immovable interest in not writting a damn plugin for OTR o implementing any other secure encryption method year after year, even when people was ready to pay... Well, it just smells rather fishy. So, dear folks who do know that fascistoid governments and companies arent interested in "bad guys" only but want to have controlled all of their people "just in case", simply use Pidgin; it's ugly as a witch, yes, but it works; or if you want to polute your system with Java, you have Jisti, which is more feature rich, but I don't think all this discussion, all this bitching and all that "We are the devs, if you wan't something do it yourself!" has any sense, and even less if there are interests who don't want our conversations to be private. [Bug 1313790] [NEW] Monitor preferences are lost after reboot

[Bug 1311322] Re: Personal configuration for mime type handling not respected, configuration way to complicated and unintuitive
Seb, I have tried to set the association with Nautilus now and now Chromium uses VLC. Looking into the ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list I see the difference now. The "audio/x-mpegurl=vlc.desktop" has to go into the "[Default Applications]" section and not into "[Added Associations]". It is not very intuitive that you have to set the file association to be used to open a file by Chromium in Nautilus. Perhaps Chromium should have some file association setting menu where one can select a file type and then Nautilus' properties dialog for this file gets opened. [Bug 1311858] Re: Totem crashes at forwarding to a certain position in a video
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
